Super-Resolution Emulation of Large Cosmological Fields with a 3D Conditional Diffusion Model
Abstract: High-resolution (HR) simulations in cosmology, in particular when including baryons, can take millions of CPU hours. On the other hand, low-resolution (LR) dark matter simulations of the same cosmological volume use minimal computing resources. We develop a denoising diffusion super-resolution emulator for large cosmological simulation volumes. Our approach is based on the image-to-image Palette d… ▽ More

The effect of a $δ$ distribution potential on a quantum mechanical particle in a box
Abstract: We study the effect of a $δ$ distribution potential placed at $x_0\geq 0$ and multiplied by a parameter $α$ on a quantum mechanical particle in an infinite square well over the segment $\left[-\,\frac{L}{2},\frac{L}{2}\right]$. We obtain the limit of the eigenfunctions of the time independent Schrödinger equation as $α\nearrow+\infty$ and as $α\searrow-\infty$. We see how each solution of the Schr… ▽ More

Electronic properties of carbon nanostructures based on bipartite nanocages units
Abstract: We use first principles simulations to investigate the electronic properties of a set of carbon nanocages with a bipartite structure. These nanocages are exclusively formed by hexagonal and tetragonal rings and we show they feature frontier states with particular symmetries as dictated by well defined rules based on the size of the structure. We also show that spin-polarized configuration emerge a… ▽ More

LIFT: Language-Interfaced Fine-Tuning for Non-Language Machine Learning Tasks
Abstract: Fine-tuning pretrained language models (LMs) without making any architectural changes has become a norm for learning various language downstream tasks. However, for non-language downstream tasks, a common practice is to employ task-specific designs for input, output layers, and loss functions. For instance, it is possible to fine-tune an LM into an MNIST classifier by replacing the word embedding… ▽ More

Regularity of a double null coordinate system for Kerr-Newman-de Sitter spacetimes
Abstract: We construct a double null coordinate system $(u,v,θ_\star,φ_\star)$ for Kerr-Newman-de Sitter spacetimes and prove that the two-spheres given by the intersection of the hypersurfaces $u=\mbox{constant}$ and $v=\mbox{constant}$ are $C^\infty$ in Boyer-Lindquist coordinates (including at the "poles"). The null coordinates allow one to immediately extend some results previously proven for Kerr. As a… ▽ More

Higher Order Linear Stability and Instability of Reissner-Nordström's Cauchy Horizon
Abstract: We consider smooth solutions of the wave equation, on a fixed black hole region of a subextremal Reissner-Nordström (asymptotically flat, de Sitter or anti-de Sitter) spacetime, whose restrictions to the event horizon have compact support. We provide criteria, in terms of surface gravities, for the waves to remain in $C^l$, $l\geq 1$, up to and including the Cauchy horizon. We also provide suffici… ▽ More

Abstract: By solving a singular initial value problem, we prove the existence of solutions of the wave equation $\Box_gφ=0$ which are bounded at the Big Bang in the Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker cosmological models. More precisely, we show that given any function $A \in H^3(Σ)$ (where $Σ=\mathbb{R}^n, \mathbb{S}^n$ or $\mathbb{H}^n$ models the spatial hypersurfaces) there exists a unique solution $φ$… ▽ More
