Building on work by Hang and He, we show how the residual five-dimensional diffeomorphism symmetries of compactified gravitational theories with a warped extra dimension imply Equivalence theorems which ensure that the scattering amplitudes of helicity-0 and helicity-1 spin-2 Kaluza-Klein states equal (to leading order in scattering energy) those of the corresponding Goldstone bosons present in the `t-Hooft-Feynman gauge. We derive a set of Ward identities that lead to a transparent power-counting of the scattering amplitudes involving spin-2 Kaluza-Klein states. We explicitly calculate these amplitudes in terms of the Goldstone bosons in the Randall-Sundrum model, check the correspondence to previous unitary-gauge computations, and demonstrate the efficacy of `t-Hooft-Feynman gauge for accurately computing amplitudes for scattering of the spin-2 states both among themselves and with matter. Power-counting for the Goldstone boson interactions establishes that the scattering amplitudes grow no faster than $O(s)$, explaining the origin of the behavior previously shown to arise from intricate cancellations between different contributions to these scattering amplitudes in unitary gauge. We describe how our results apply to more general warped geometries, including models with a stabilized extra dimension. In an appendix we explicitly identify the symmetry algebra of the residual 5D diffeomorphisms of a Randall-Sundrum extra-dimensional theory.

We perform a comprehensive analysis of the scattering of matter and gravitational Kaluza-Klein (KK) modes in five-dimensional gravity theories. We consider matter localized on a brane as well as in the bulk of the extra dimension for scalars, fermions and vectors respectively, and consider an arbitrary warped background. While naive power-counting suggests that there are amplitudes which grow as fast as ${\cal O}(s^3)$ [where $s$ is the center-of-mass scattering energy-squared], we demonstrate that cancellations between the various contributions result in a total amplitude which grows no faster than ${\cal O}(s)$. Extending previous work on the self-interactions of the gravitational KK modes, we show that these cancellations occur due to sum-rule relations between the couplings and the masses of the modes that can be proven from the properties of the mode equations describing the gravity and matter wavefunctions. We demonstrate that these properties are tied to the underlying diffeomorphism invariance of the five-dimensional theory. We discuss how our results generalize when the size of the extra dimension is stabilized via the Goldberger-Wise mechanism. Our conclusions are of particular relevance for freeze-out and freeze-in relic abundance calculations for dark matter models including a spin-2 portal arising from an underlying five-dimensional theory.

A recent letter Cai et al. A recent letter Cai et al. [2107.14548] within a phenomenological dark matter framework with a massive graviton in the external state indicated a divergence with increasing centre-of-momentum energy arising from the longitudinal polarizations of the graviton. In this letter we point out that in processes such as graviton-photon production from matter annihilation, $f\bar{f} \to Gγ$, no such anomalous divergences occur at tree-level. This then applies to other tree-level amplitudes related by crossing symmetry such as $γf \to Gf$, $Gf \to γf$, $γf \to Gf$, $f \to fGγ$ and so on. We show this by explicitly computing the relevant tree-level diagrams, where we find that delicate cancellations ensure that all anomalously growing terms are well-regulated. Effectively at tree-level this is consistent with the operation of a Ward identity associated with the external photon for such amplitudes. The same tree-level results apply if the photon is replaced by a gluon. These results are important for cosmological models of dark matter within the framework of extra dimensions.

We present 1.4 and 2.5 GHz Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) observations of the galaxy cluster A3158 (z=0.0597) which is located within the central part of the Horologium-Reticulum Supercluster (HRS). Spectroscopic data for the central part of the HRS suggest that A3158 is in a dynamically important position within the supercluster and that it is moving toward the double cluster system A3125/A3128 which marks the centre of the HRS. A total of 110 radio galaxies are detected in a 35 arcminute radius about the cluster at 1.4 GHz, of which 30 are also detected at 2.5 GHz.We examine the source counts and compute the Radio Luminosity Function (RLF) at 1.4 GHz from the subset of 88 sources found within the fullwidth half-power area of the ATCA beam. Comparison of the source counts in the area over the background, as computed by Prandoni et al. (2001), shows some evidence of an excess of galaxies with L(1.4) GHz < 2 x 10^22 W/Hz. This result seems to indicate a star forming population and is a result similar to that found recently by Owen et al. (2005) for the merging cluster A2125. In addition we find that the radio luminosity function for early-type galaxies (E and S0) below log P(1.4) = 22.5 is lower than that found for a composite cluster environment (Ledlow & Owen, 1996) but is similar to the early-type RLF for clusters in the centre of the Shapley Super cluster (Venturi et al. 2000) which are believed to be in the latter stages of merging. This result implies that the cores of superclusters are environments where radio emission, particularly resultant from AGN, is suppressed in the later stages of merging. Thus, radio observations of clusters might be sensitive indicators of the precise merger stage of the cluster but more observational evidence is still required to establish this trend.

We use the Dijkgraaf-Vafa technique to study massive vacua of 6D SU(N) SYM theories on tori with R-symmetry twists. One finds a matrix model living on the compactification torus with a genus 2 spectral curve. The Jacobian of this curve is closely related to a twisted four torus T in which the Seiberg-Witten curves of the theory are embedded. We also analyze R-symmetry twists in a bundle with nontrivial first Chern class which yields intrinsically 6D SUSY breaking and a novel matrix integral whose eigenvalues float in a sea of background charge. Next we analyze the underlying integrable system of the theory, whose phase space we show to be a system of N-1 points on $T$. We write down an explicit set of Poisson commuting Hamiltonians for this system for arbitrary N and use them to prove that equilibrium configurations with respect to all Hamiltonians correspond to points in moduli space where the Seiberg-Witten curve maximally degenerates to genus 2, thereby recovering the matrix model spectral curve. We also write down a conjecture for a dual set of Poisson commuting variables which could shed light on a particle-like interpretation of the system.
