Geant4 is an object-oriented toolkit for the simulation of the passage of particles through matter. Its development was initially motivated by the requirements of physics experiments at high energy hadron colliders under construction in the last decade of the 20th century. Since its release in 1998, it has been exploited in many different applicative fields, including space science, nuclear physics, medical physics and archaeology. Its valuable support to scientific discovery is demonstrated by more than 16000 citations received in the past 25 years, including notable citations for main discoveries in different fields. This accomplishment shows that well designed software plays a key role in enabling scientific advancement. In this paper we discuss the key principles and the innovative decisions at the basis of Geant4, which made it a game changer in high energy physics and related fields, and outline some considerations regarding future directions.

This interval includes the structure with a diffractive minimum ("dip") and a secondary maximum ("bump") that has also been observed at all other LHC energies, where measurements were made. A detailed characterisation of this structure for $\sqrt{s} = 8\ {\rm TeV}$ yields the positions, $|t|_{\rm dip} = (0.521 \pm 0.007)\ {\rm GeV^2}$ and $|t|_{\rm bump} = (0.695 \pm 0.026)\ {\rm GeV^2}$, as well as the cross-section values, ${{\rm d}σ/{\rm d} t}_{\rm dip} = (15.1 \pm 2.5)\ {\rm{μb/GeV^2}}$ and ${{\rm d}σ/{\rm d} t}_{\rm bump} = (29.7 \pm 1.8)\ {\rm{μb/GeV^2}}$, for the dip and the bump, respectively.

The primary objective of this work is to develop a Neural Network based on LSTM to predict stock market movements using tweets. Word embeddings, used in the LSTM network, are initialised using Stanford's GloVe embeddings, pretrained specifically on 2 billion tweets. To overcome the limited size of the dataset, an augmentation strategy is proposed to split each input sequence into 150 subsets. To achieve further improvements in the original configuration, hyperparameter optimisation is performed. The effects of variation in hyperparameters such as dropout rate, batch size, and LSTM hidden state output size are assessed individually. Furthermore, an exhaustive set of parameter combinations is examined to determine the optimal model configuration. The best performance on the validation dataset is achieved by hyperparameter combination 0.4,8,100 for the dropout, batch size, and hidden units respectively. The final testing accuracy of the model is 76.14%.

This work presents an Artificial Intelligence (AI) system, based on the Faster Region-Based Convolution Neural Network (Faster R-CNN) framework, which detects and counts apples from oblique, aerial drone imagery of giant commercial orchards. To reduce computational cost, a novel precursory stage to the network is designed to preprocess raw imagery into cropped images of individual trees. Unique geospatial identifiers are allocated to these using the perspective projection model. This employs Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) data, Digital Terrain and Surface Models (DTM and DSM), as well as internal and external camera parameters. The bulk of experiments however focus on tuning hyperparameters in the detection network itself. Apples which are on trees and apples which are on the ground are treated as separate classes. A mean Average Precision (mAP) metric, calibrated by the size of the two classes, is devised to mitigate spurious results. Anchor box design is of key interest due to the scale of the apples. As such, a k-means clustering approach, never before seen in literature for Faster R-CNN, resulted in the most significant improvements to calibrated mAP. Other experiments showed that the maximum number of box proposals should be 225; the initial learning rate of 0.001 is best applied to the adaptive RMS Prop optimiser; and ResNet 101 is the ideal base feature extractor when considering mAP and, to a lesser extent, inference time. The amalgamation of the optimal hyperparameters leads to a model with a calibrated mAP of 0.7627.

We describe an analysis comparing the $p\bar{p}$ elastic cross section as measured by the D0 Collaboration at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV to that in $pp$ collisions as measured by the TOTEM Collaboration at 2.76, 7, 8, and 13 TeV using a model-independent approach. The TOTEM cross sections extrapolated to a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s} =$ 1.96 TeV are compared with the D0 measurement in the region of the diffractive minimum and the second maximum of the $pp$ cross section. The two data sets disagree at the 3.4$σ$ level and thus provide evidence for the $t$-channel exchange of a colorless, $C$-odd gluonic compound, also known as the odderon. We combine these results with a TOTEM analysis of the same $C$-odd exchange based on the total cross section and the ratio of the real to imaginary parts of the forward elastic scattering amplitude in $pp$ scattering. The combined significance of these results is larger than 5$σ$ and is interpreted as the first observation of the exchange of a colorless, $C$-odd gluonic compound.

We propose an a posteriori error estimator for high-order $p$- or $hp$-finite element discretizations of selfadjoint linear elliptic eigenvalue problems that is appropriate for estimating the error in the approximation of an eigenvalue cluster and the corresponding invariant subspace. The estimator is based on the computation of approximate error functions in a space that complements the one in which the approximate eigenvectors were computed. These error functions are used to construct estimates of collective measures of error, such as the Hausdorff distance between the true and approximate clusters of eigenvalues, and the subspace gap between the corresponding true and approximate invariant subspaces. Numerical experiments demonstrate the practical effectivity of the approach.

This work presents a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) for the prediction of next-day stock fluctuations using company-specific news headlines. Experiments to evaluate model performance using various configurations of word-embeddings and convolutional filter widths are reported. The total number of convolutional filters used is far fewer than is common, reducing the dimensionality of the task without loss of accuracy. Furthermore, multiple hidden layers with decreasing dimensionality are employed. A classification accuracy of 61.7\% is achieved using pre-learned embeddings, that are fine-tuned during training to represent the specific context of this task. Multiple filter widths are also implemented to detect different length phrases that are key for classification. Trading simulations are conducted using the presented classification results. Initial investments are more than tripled over a 838 day testing period using the optimal classification configuration and a simple trading strategy. Two novel methods are presented to reduce the risk of the trading simulations. Adjustment of the sigmoid class threshold and re-labelling headlines using multiple classes form the basis of these methods. A combination of these approaches is found to more than double the Average Trade Profit (ATP) achieved during baseline simulations.

We propose a new algorithm for Adaptive Finite Element Methods (AFEMs) based on smoothing iterations (S-AFEM), for linear, second-order, elliptic partial differential equations (PDEs). The algorithm is inspired by the ascending phase of the V-cycle multigrid method: we replace accurate algebraic solutions in intermediate cycles of the classical AFEM with the application of a prolongation step, followed by the application of a smoother. Even though these intermediate solutions are far from the exact algebraic solutions, their a-posteriori error estimation produces a refinement pattern that is substantially equivalent to the one that would be generated by classical AFEM, at a considerable fraction of the computational cost.
We provide a qualitative analysis of how the error propagates throughout the algorithm, and we present a series of numerical experiments that highlight the efficiency and the computational speedup of S-AFEM.

The proton-proton elastic differential cross section ${\rm d}σ/{\rm d}t$ has been measured by the TOTEM experiment at $\sqrt{s}=2.76$ TeV energy with $β^{*}=11$ m beam optics. The Roman Pots were inserted to 13 times the transverse beam size from the beam, which allowed to measure the differential cross-section of elastic scattering in a range of the squared four-momentum transfer ($|t|$) from $0.36$ GeV$^{2}$ to $0.74$ GeV$^{2}$. The differential cross-section can be described with an exponential in the $|t|$-range between $0.36$ GeV$^{2}$ and $0.54$ GeV$^{2}$, followed by a diffractive minimum (dip) at $|t_{\rm dip}| = 0.61 \pm 0.03$ GeV$^{2}$ and a subsequent maximum (bump). The ratio of the ${\rm d}σ/{\rm d}t$ at the bump and at the dip is $1.7\pm 0.2$. When compared to the $\rm p\bar{p}$ measurement of the D0 experiment at $\sqrt s = 1.96$ TeV, a significant difference can be observed. Under the condition that the effects due to the energy difference between TOTEM and D0 can be neglected, the result provides evidence for a colourless 3-gluon bound state exchange in the $t$-channel of the proton-proton elastic scattering.

The TOTEM collaboration has measured the elastic proton-proton differential cross section ${\rm d}σ/{\rm d}t$ at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV LHC energy using dedicated $β^{*}=90$ m beam optics. The Roman Pot detectors were inserted to 10$σ$ distance from the LHC beam, which allowed the measurement of the range $[0.04$ GeV$^{2}$$; 4 $GeV$^{2}$$]$ in four-momentum transfer squared $|t|$. The efficient data acquisition allowed to collect about 10$^{9}$ elastic events to precisely measure the differential cross-section including the diffractive minimum (dip), the subsequent maximum (bump) and the large-$|t|$ tail. The average nuclear slope has been found to be $B=(20.40 \pm 0.002^{\rm stat} \pm 0.01^{\rm syst})~$GeV$^{-2}$ in the $|t|$-range $0.04~$GeV$^{2}$ to $0.2~$GeV$^{2}$. The dip position is $|t_{\rm dip}|=(0.47 \pm 0.004^{\rm stat} \pm 0.01^{\rm syst})~$GeV$^{2}$. The differential cross section ratio at the bump vs. at the dip $R=1.77\pm0.01^{\rm stat}$ has been measured with high precision. The series of TOTEM elastic pp measurements show that the dip is a permanent feature of the pp differential cross-section at the TeV scale.

The TOTEM experiment at the LHC has performed the first measurement at $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV of the $ρ$ parameter, the real to imaginary ratio of the nuclear elastic scattering amplitude at $t=0$, obtaining the following results: $ρ= 0.09 \pm 0.01$ and $ρ= 0.10 \pm 0.01$, depending on different physics assumptions and mathematical modelling. The unprecedented precision of the $ρ$ measurement, combined with the TOTEM total cross-section measurements in an energy range larger than 10 TeV (from 2.76 to 13 TeV), has implied the exclusion of all the models classified and published by COMPETE. The $ρ$ results obtained by TOTEM are compatible with the predictions, from alternative theoretical models both in the Regge-like framework and in the QCD framework, of a colourless 3-gluon bound state exchange in the $t$-channel of the proton-proton elastic scattering. On the contrary, if shown that the 3-gluon bound state $t$-channel exchange is not of importance for the description of elastic scattering, the $ρ$ value determined by TOTEM would represent a first evidence of a slowing down of the total cross-section growth at higher energies. The very low-$|t|$ reach allowed also to determine the absolute normalisation using the Coulomb amplitude for the first time at the LHC and obtain a new total proton-proton cross-section measurement $σ_{tot} = 110.3 \pm 3.5$ mb, completely independent from the previous TOTEM determination. Combining the two TOTEM results yields $σ_{tot} = 110.5 \pm 2.4$ mb.

A Dalitz plot analysis of $B^0 \to η_c(1S) K^+π^-$ decays is performed using data samples of $pp$ collisions collected with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of $\sqrt{s}=7,~8$ and $13$ TeV, corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of $4.7~\text{fb}^{-1}$. A satisfactory description of the data is obtained when including a contribution representing an exotic $η_c(1S) π^-$ resonant state. The significance of this exotic resonance is more than three standard deviations, while its mass and width are $4096 \pm 20~^{+18}_{-22}$ MeV and $152 \pm 58~^{+60}_{-35}$ MeV, respectively. The spin-parity assignments $J^P=0^+$ and $J^{P}=1^-$ are both consistent with the data. In addition, the first measurement of the $B^0 \to η_c(1S) K^+π^-$ branching fraction is performed and gives $\displaystyle \mathcal{B}(B^0 \to η_c(1S) K^+π^-) = (5.73 \pm 0.24 \pm 0.13 \pm 0.66) \times 10^{-4}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third is due to limited knowledge of external branching fractions.

The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of $1.58\mathrm{nb}^{-1}$ recorded at a nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=5.02$ TeV. Measurements of the differential cross-section and the forward-backward production ratio are reported for $Λ^+_c$ baryons with transverse momenta in the range $2<p_{T}<10$GeV/$c$ and rapidities in the ranges $1.5<y^*<4.0$ and $-4.5<y^*<-2.5$ in the nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass system. The ratio of cross-sections of $Λ^+_c$ baryons and $D^0$ mesons is also reported. The results are compared with next-to-leading order calculations that use nuclear parton distribution functions.

The LHCb Upgrade II will fully exploit the flavour-physics opportunities of the HL-LHC, and study additional physics topics that take advantage of the forward acceptance of the LHCb spectrometer. The LHCb Upgrade I will begin operation in 2020. Consolidation will occur, and modest enhancements of the Upgrade I detector will be installed, in Long Shutdown 3 of the LHC (2025) and these are discussed here. The main Upgrade II detector will be installed in long shutdown 4 of the LHC (2030) and will build on the strengths of the current LHCb experiment and the Upgrade I. It will operate at a luminosity up to $ 2 \times 10^{34} \rm cm^{-2}s^{-1}$, ten times that of the Upgrade I detector. New detector components will improve the intrinsic performance of the experiment in certain key areas. An Expression Of Interest proposing Upgrade II was submitted in February 2017. The physics case for the Upgrade II is presented here in more depth. $CP$-violating phases will be measured with precisions unattainable at any other envisaged facility. The experiment will probe $b\to s \ell^+\ell^-$ and $b\to d \ell^+\ell^-$ transitions in both muon and electron decays in modes not accessible at Upgrade I. Minimal flavour violation will be tested with a precision measurement of the ratio of $B(B^0\toμ^+μ^-)/B(B_s^0\to μ^+μ^-)$. Probing charm $CP$ violation at the $10^{-5}$ level may result in its long sought discovery. Major advances in hadron spectroscopy will be possible, which will be powerful probes of low energy QCD. Upgrade II potentially will have the highest sensitivity of all the LHC experiments on the Higgs to charm-quark couplings. Generically, the new physics mass scale probed, for fixed couplings, will almost double compared with the pre-HL-LHC era; this extended reach for flavour physics is similar to that which would be achieved by the HE-LHC proposal for the energy frontier.

An analysis of the angular distribution of the decay $Λ_b^0 \rightarrow Λμ^{+} μ^{-}$ is presented, using data collected with the LHCb detector between 2011 and 2016 and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of approximately $5\,fb^{-1}$. Angular observables are determined using a moment analysis of the angular distribution at low hadronic recoil, corresponding to the dimuon invariant mass squared range $15 < q^{2} < 20\, GeV^2/c^4$. The full basis of observables is measured for the first time. The lepton-side, hadron-side and combined forward-backward asymmetries of the decay are determined to be \begin{align} A_{FB}^{l} & = -0.39 \pm 0.04\,\rm{stat} \pm 0.01\, \rm{syst}, \nonumber\\ A_{FB}^{h} & = -0.30 \pm 0.05\,\rm{stat} \pm 0.02\, \rm{syst}, \nonumber\\ A_{FB}^{lh} & = +0.25 \pm 0.04\,\rm{stat} \pm 0.01\, \rm{syst}. \nonumber \end{align} The measurements are consistent with Standard Model predictions.

The decay of the narrow resonance $\overline{B}{}_{s2}^{*0}\!\rightarrow B^- K^+$ can be used to determine the $B^-$ momentum in partially reconstructed decays without any assumptions on the decay products of the $B^-$ meson. This technique is employed for the first time to distinguish contributions from $D^0$, $D^{*0}$, and higher-mass charmed states ($D^{**0}$) in semileptonic $B^-$ decays by using the missing-mass distribution. The measurement is performed using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb${}^{-1}$ collected with the LHCb detector in $pp$ collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. The resulting branching fractions relative to the inclusive $B^- \!\rightarrow D^0 X μ^- \overlineν_μ$ are $f_{D^0} = \mathcal{B}( B^- \rightarrow D^0μ^-\overlineν_μ)/\mathcal{B}( B^- \rightarrow D^0 X μ^- \overlineν_μ) = 0.25 \pm 0.06$, $f_{D^{**0}} = \mathcal{B}( B^- \rightarrow ( D^{**0} \rightarrow D^0 X)μ^-\overlineν_μ)/\mathcal{B}( B^- \rightarrow D^0 X μ^- \overlineν_μ) = 0.21 \pm 0.07$, with $f_{D^{*0}} = 1 - f_{D^0} - f_{D^{**0}}$ making up the remainder.

The first observation of the $B_s^0 \to \overline{D}^{*0} φ$ decay is reported, with a significance of more than seven standard deviations, from an analysis of $pp$ collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb$^{-1}$, collected with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of $7$ and $8$ TeV. The branching fraction is measured relative to that of the topologically similar decay $B^0 \to \overline{D}^0 π^+π^-$ and is found to be $\mathcal{B}(B_s^0 \to \overline{D}^{*0} φ) = (3.7 \pm 0.5 \pm 0.3 \pm 0.2) \times 10^{-5}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third from the branching fraction of the $B^0 \to \overline{D}^0 π^+π^-$ decay. The fraction of longitudinal polarisation in this decay is measured to be ${f_{\rm L} =(73 \pm 15 \pm 3)\%}$. The most precise determination of the branching fraction for the $B_s^0 \to \overline{D}^{0} φ$ decay is also obtained, $\mathcal{B}(B_s^0 \to \overline{D}^{0} φ) = (3.0 \pm 0.3 \pm 0.2 \pm 0.2) \times 10^{-5}$. An upper limit, $\mathcal{B}(B^0 \to \overline{D}^{0} φ) < 2.0 \ (2.2) \times 10^{-6}$ at $90\%$ (95\%) confidence level is set. A constraint on the $ω-φ$ mixing angle $δ$ is set at $|δ| < 5.2^\circ~ (5.5^\circ)$ at $90\%$ ($95\%$) confidence level.

The results are obtained from an analysis of $pp$ collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $3.0~\textrm{fb}^{-1}$. The data were collected with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of $7$ and $8$ TeV. The branching fraction of the $B^0 \to \overline{D}^0 K^+ K^-$ decay is measured relative to that of the decay $B^0 \to \overline{D}^0 π^+ π^-$ to be $$\frac{\mathcal{B}(B^0 \to \overline{D}^0 K^+ K^-)}{\mathcal{B}(B^0 \to \overline{D}^0 π^+ π^-)} = (6.9 \pm 0.4 \pm 0.3)\%,$$ where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The measured branching fraction of the $B_s^0 \to \overline{D}^0 K^+ K^-$ decay mode relative to that of the corresponding $B^0$ decay is $$\frac{\mathcal{B}(B_s^0 \to \overline{D}^0 K^+ K^-)}{\mathcal{B}(B^0 \to \overline{D}^0 K^+ K^-)} = (93.0 \pm 8.9 \pm 6.9)\%.$$ Using the known branching fraction of ${B^0 \to \overline{D}^0 π^+ π^-}$, the values of ${{\mathcal B}(B^0 \to \overline{D}^0 K^+ K^- )=(6.1 \pm 0.4 \pm 0.3 \pm 0.3) \times 10^{-5}}$, and ${{\cal B}(B_s^0 \to \overline{D}^0 K^+ K^-)=}$ $(5.7 \pm 0.5 \pm 0.4 \pm 0.5) \times 10^{-5}$ are obtained, where the third uncertainties arise from the branching fraction of the decay modes ${B^0 \to \overline{D}^0 π^+ π^-}$ and $B^0 \to \overline{D}^0 K^+ K^-$, respectively.

The asymmetries are also measured as a function of the dimuon invariant mass. The results are consistent with the Standard Model predictions.

No significant excess is found, and upper limits are set on the product of the production cross-section and the branching fraction as functions of the mass of the $X_{b\overline{b}b\overline{b}}$ state. The limits are set in the fiducial volume where all muons have pseudorapidity in the range $[2.0,5.0]$, and the $X_{b\overline{b}b\overline{b}}$ state has rapidity in the range $[2.0,4.5]$ and transverse momentum less than 15 GeV/$c$.

A measurement of $Z\rightarrowτ^+τ^-$ production cross-section is presented using data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2 fb$^{-1}$, from $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV collected by the LHCb experiment. The $τ^+τ^-$ candidates are reconstructed in final states with the first tau lepton decaying leptonically, and the second decaying either leptonically or to one or three charged hadrons. The production cross-section is measured for $Z$ bosons with invariant mass between 60 and 120 GeV/$c^2$, which decay to tau leptons with transverse momenta greater than 20 GeV/$c$ and pseudorapidities between 2.0 and 4.5. The cross-section is determined to be $σ_{pp\rightarrow{}Z\rightarrow{}τ^+τ^-} = 95.8 \pm 2.1 \pm 4.6 \pm 0.2 \pm 1.1 \mathrm{pb}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, the third is due to the LHC beam energy uncertainty, and the fourth to the integrated luminosity uncertainty. This result is compatible with NNLO Standard model predictions. The ratio of the cross-sections for $Z\rightarrowτ^+τ^-$ to $Z\rightarrowμ^+μ^-$ ($Z\rightarrow{}e^+e^-$), determined to be $1.01 \pm 0.05$ ($1.02 \pm 0.06$), is consistent with the lepton-universality hypothesis in $Z$ decays.

Measurements are reported of the central exclusive production of \jpsi and \psitwos mesons in $pp$ collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. Backgrounds are significantly reduced compared to previous measurements made at lower energies through the use of new forward shower counters. The products of the cross-sections and the branching fractions for the decays to dimuons, where both muons are within the pseudorapidity range $2.0<η<4.5$, are measured to be $$
\begin{array}{rcl} σ_{J/ψ\rightarrowμ^+μ^-}&=&435 \pm 18 \pm 17 \pm 16 {\rm \ pb},\\ σ_{ψ(2S)\rightarrowμ^+μ^-}&=&11.1 \pm 1.1 \pm 0.3 \pm 0.4 {\rm \ pb}.\\ \end{array} $$ The first uncertainties are statistical, the second are systematic, and the third are due to the luminosity determination. The cross-sections are also measured differentially for meson rapidities between 2.0 and 4.5. Good agreement is observed with theoretical predictions. Photoproduction cross-sections are derived and compared to previous experiments, and a deviation from a pure power-law extrapolation of lower energy data is observed.

A measurement of the time-integrated $CP$ asymmetry in $D^0\rightarrow K^0_S K^0_S$ decays is reported. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of about $2$ fb$^{-1}$ collected in 2015-2016 by the LHCb collaboration in $pp$ collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of $13$ TeV. The $D^0$ candidate is required to originate from a $D^{\ast +} \rightarrow D^0 π^+$ decay, allowing the determination of the flavour of the $D^0$ meson using the pion charge. The $D^0 \rightarrow K^{+}K^{-}$ decay, which has a well measured $CP$ asymmetry, is used as a calibration channel. The $CP$ asymmetry for $D^0\rightarrow K^0_S K^0_S$ is measured to be \begin{equation*} \mathcal{A}^{CP}(D^0\rightarrow K^0_S K^0_S) = (4.3\pm 3.4\pm 1.0)\%, \end{equation*} where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. A binned Dalitz plot analysis of $B^\pm \to D K^\pm$ decays, with $D\to K_\text{S}^0π^+π^-$ and $D\to K_\text{S}^0K^+K^-$, is used to perform a measurement of the CP-violating observables $x_{\pm}$ and $y_{\pm}$, which are sensitive to the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa angle $γ$. The analysis is performed without assuming any $D$ decay model, through the use of information on the strong-phase variation over the Dalitz plot from the CLEO collaboration. Using a sample of proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb experiment in 2015 and 2016, and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.0$\,\text{fb}^{-1}$, the values of the CP violation parameters are found to be $x_- = ( 9.0 \pm 1.7 \pm 0.7 \pm 0.4) \times 10^{-2}$, $y_- = ( 2.1 \pm 2.2 \pm 0.5 \pm 1.1) \times 10^{-2}$, $x_+ = (- 7.7 \pm 1.9 \pm 0.7 \pm 0.4) \times 10^{-2}$, and $y_+ = (- 1.0 \pm 1.9 \pm 0.4 \pm 0.9) \times 10^{-2}$. The first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is due to the uncertainty on the strong-phase measurements. These values are used to obtain $γ= \left(87\,^{+11}_{-12}\right)^\circ$, $r_B = 0.086^{+ 0.013}_{-0.014}$, and $δ_B = (101 \pm 11)^\circ$, where $r_B$ is the ratio between the suppressed and favoured $B$-decay amplitudes and $δ_B$ is the corresponding strong-interaction phase difference. This measurement is combined with the result obtained using 2011 and 2012 data collected with the \lhcb experiment, to give $γ= \left(80\,^{+10}_{\,-9}\right)^\circ$, $r_B = 0.080 \pm 0.011$, and $δ_B = (110 \pm 10)^\circ$.

The inclusive $D_s^{\pm}$ production asymmetry is measured in $pp$ collisions collected by the LHCb experiment at centre-of-mass energies of $\sqrt{s} =7$ and 8 TeV. Promptly produced $D_s^{\pm}$ mesons are used, which decay as $D_s^{\pm}\toφπ^{\pm}$, with $φ\to K^+K^-$. The measurement is performed in bins of transverse momentum, $p_{\rm T}$, and rapidity, $y$, covering the range $2.5<p_{\rm T}<25.0$ GeV$/c$ and $2.0<y<4.5$. No kinematic dependence is observed. Evidence of nonzero $D_s^{\pm}$ production asymmetry is found with a significance of 3.3 standard deviations.

No evidence is found for a signal in the mass range from 5.5 to 15 GeV. Upper limits are placed on the product of the production cross-section and the branching fraction into the dimuon final state. The limits are comparable to the best existing over most of the mass region considered and are the first to be set near the $Υ$ resonances.

In the quark model, radially and orbitally excited $Ξ_b^-$ resonances with quark content $bds$ are expected. Referring to this peak as $Ξ_b(6227)^-$, the mass and natural width are measured to be $m_{Ξ_{b}(6227)^-}=6226.9\pm2.0\pm0.3\pm0.2$ MeV/$c^2$ and $Γ_{Ξ_b(6227)^-}=18.1\pm5.4\pm1.8$ MeV/$c^2$, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third, on $m_{Ξ_b(6227)^-}$, is due to the knowledge of the $Λ_b^0$ baryon mass. Relative production rates of the ${Ξ_b(6227)^-\toΛ_b^0K^-}$ and ${Ξ_b(6227)^-\toΞ_b^0π^-}$ decays are also reported.

A measurement of the $CP$ asymmetries $S_{f}$ and $S_{\bar{f}}$ in $B^0\to D^{\mp}π^{\pm}$ decays is reported. The decays are reconstructed in a dataset collected with the LHCb experiment in proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $3.0 \rm{ fb}^{-1}$. The $CP$ asymmetries are measured to be $S_{f} = 0.058 \pm 0.020 (\rm{stat}) \pm 0.011(\rm{syst})$ and $S_{\bar{f}} = 0.038\pm 0.020 (\text{stat})\pm 0.007 (\text{syst})$. These results are in agreement with, and more precise than, previous determinations. They are used to constrain $|\sin\left(2β+γ\right)|$ and $γ$ to intervals that are consistent with the current world-average values.

The fiducial cross-section for inelastic interactions producing at least one prompt long-lived charged particle with momentum $p>2$\,GeV/$c$ in the pseudorapidity range $2<η<5$ is determined to be $σ_{\rm acc}= 62.2 \pm 0.2 \pm 2.5$\,mb. The first uncertainty is the intrinsic systematic uncertainty of the measurement, the second is due to the uncertainty on the integrated luminosity. The statistical uncertainty is negligible. Extrapolation to full phase space yields the total inelastic proton-proton cross-section $σ_{\rm inel}= 75.4 \pm 3.0 \pm 4.5$\,mb, where the first uncertainty is experimental and the second due to the extrapolation. An updated value of the inelastic cross-section at a centre-of-mass energy of 7\,TeV is also reported.

Forward top quark pair production is studied in $pp$ collisions in the $μeb$ final state using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.93 fb$^{-1}$ collected with the LHCb experiment at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The cross-section is measured in a fiducial region where both leptons have a transverse momentum greater than 20 GeV and a pseudorapidity between 2.0 and 4.5. The quadrature sum of the azimuthal separation and the difference in pseudorapidities, denoted $ΔR$, between the two leptons must be larger than 0.1. The $b$-jet axis is required to be separated from both leptons by a $ΔR$ of 0.5, and to have a transverse momentum in excess of 20 GeV and a pseudorapidity between 2.2 and 4.2. The cross-section is measured to be $$σ_{t\bar{t}}= 126\pm19\,(\mathrm{stat})\pm16\,(\mathrm{syst})\pm5\,(\mathrm{lumi})\,\,\mathrm{ fb}$$ where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is due to the luminosity determination. The measurement is compatible with the Standard Model prediction.

The time-integrated Dalitz plot of the three-body hadronic charmless decay ${\overline{B}^0 \to K_{\mathrm{\scriptscriptstyle S}}^0 π^+ π^-}$ is studied using a $pp$ collision data sample recorded with the LHCb detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $3.0\;\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$. The decay amplitude is described with an isobar model. Relative contributions of the isobar amplitudes to the ${\overline{B}^0 \to K_{\mathrm{\scriptscriptstyle S}}^0 π^+ π^-}$ decay branching fraction and CP asymmetries of the flavour-specific amplitudes are measured. The CP asymmetry between the conjugate ${\overline{B}^0 \to K^{*}(892)^{-}π^+}$ and ${\overline{B}^0 \to K^{*}(892)^{+}π^-}$ decay rates is determined to be $-0.308 \pm 0.062$.
