Future crewed missions to the Moon will face significant environmental and operational challenges, posing risks to the safety and performance of astronauts navigating its inhospitable surface. Whilst head-up displays (HUDs) have proven effective in providing intuitive navigational support on Earth, the design of novel human-spaceflight solutions typically relies on costly and time-consuming analogue deployments, leaving the potential use of lunar HUDs largely under-explored. This paper explores an alternative approach by simulating navigational HUD concepts in a high-fidelity Virtual Reality (VR) representation of the lunar environment. In evaluating these concepts with astronauts and other aerospace experts (n=25), our mixed methods study demonstrates the efficacy of simulated analogues in facilitating rapid design assessments of early-stage HUD solutions. We illustrate this by elaborating key design challenges and guidelines for future lunar HUDs. In reflecting on the limitations of our approach, we propose directions for future design exploration of human-machine interfaces for the Moon.

Visual analytics tools can help illustrate the spread of infectious diseases and enable informed decisions on epidemiological and public health issues. To create visualisation tools that are intuitive, easy to use, and effective in communicating information, continued research and development focusing on user-centric and methodological design models is extremely important. As a contribution to this topic, this paper presents the design and development process of the visual analytics application ESID (Epidemiological Scenarios for Infectious Diseases). ESID is a visual analytics tool aimed at projecting the future developments of infectious disease spread using reported and simulated data based on sound mathematical-epidemiological models. The development process involved a collaborative and participatory design approach with project partners from diverse scientific fields. The findings from these studies, along with the guidelines derived from them, played a pivotal role in sha** the visualisation tool.

Here we present a software framework for the visualization of mantle convection data. This framework combines real-time volume rendering, pathline visualization, and parallel coordinates to explore the fluid dynamics in an interactive way and to identify correlations between various output variables.

Interactive urgent computing is a small but growing user of supercomputing resources. However there are numerous technical challenges that must be overcome to make supercomputers fully suited to the wide range of urgent workloads which could benefit from the computational power delivered by such instruments. An important question is how to connect the different components of an urgent workload; namely the users, the simulation codes, and external data sources, together in a structured and accessible manner.
In this paper we explore the role of workflows from both the perspective of marshalling and control of urgent workloads, and at the individual HPC machine level. Ultimately requiring two workflow systems, by using a space weather prediction urgent use-cases, we explore the benefit that these two workflow systems provide especially when one exploits the flexibility enabled by them interoperating.

It is estimated that around 80\% of the world's population live in areas susceptible to at-least one major vector borne disease, and approximately 20% of global communicable diseases are spread by mosquitoes. Furthermore, the outbreaks of such diseases are becoming more common and widespread, with much of this driven in recent years by socio-demographic and climatic factors. These trends are causing significant worry to global health organisations, including the CDC and WHO, and-so an important question is the role that technology can play in addressing them.
In this work we describe the integration of an epidemiology model, which simulates the spread of mosquito-borne diseases, with the VESTEC urgent computing ecosystem. The intention of this work is to empower human health professionals to exploit this model and more easily explore the progression of mosquito-borne diseases. Traditionally in the domain of the few research scientists, by leveraging state of the art visualisation and analytics techniques, all supported by running the computational workloads on HPC machines in a seamless fashion, we demonstrate the significant advantages that such an integration can provide. Furthermore we demonstrate the benefits of using an ecosystem such as VESTEC, which provides a framework for urgent computing, in supporting the easy adoption of these technologies by the epidemiologists and disaster response professionals more widely.

In this paper, we introduce a system to collect product information from manufacturers and make it available in tools that are used for concurrent design of spacecraft. The planning of a spacecraft needs experts from different disciplines, like propulsion, power, and thermal. Since these different disciplines rely on each other there is a high need for communication between them, which is often realized by a Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) process and corresponding tools. We show by comparison that the product information provided by manufacturers often does not match the information needed by MBSE tools on a syntactic or semantic level. The information from manufacturers is also currently not available in machine-readable formats. Afterwards, we present a prototype of a system that makes product information from manufacturers directly available in MBSE tools, in a machine-readable way.
