Abstract:
In this paper we present a covariant quantization of the ``massive'' spin-2 field on de Sitter (dS) space. By ``massive'' we mean a field which carries a specific principal series representation of the dS group. The work is in the direct continuation of previous ones concerning the scalar, the spinor and the vector cases. The quantization procedure, independent of the choice of the coordinate sy…

The quantization procedure, independent of the choice of the coordinate system, is based on the Wightman-Garding axiomatic and on analyticity requirements for the two-point function in the complexified pseudo-Riemanian manifold. Such a construction is necessary in view of preparing and comparing with the dS conformal spin-2 massless case (dS linear quantum gravity) which will be considered in a forthcoming paper and for which specific quantization methods are needed.

We study in this paper the possible occurrence of orbital magnetim for two-dimensional electrons confined by a harmonic potential in various regimes of temperature and magnetic field. Standard coherent state families are used for calculating symbols of various involved observables like thermodynamical potential, magnetic moment, or spatialdistribution of current. Their expressions are given in a closed form and the resulting Berezin-Lieb inequalities provide a straightforward way to study magnetism in various limit regimes. In particular, we predict a paramagnetic behaviour in the thermodynamical limit as well as in the quasiclassical limit under a weak field. Eventually, we obtain an exact expression for the magnetic moment which yields a full description of the phase diagram of the magnetization.

Abstract:
This paper is a direct illustration of a construction of coherent states which has been recently proposed by two of us (JPG and JK). We have chosen the example of a particle trapped in an infinite square-well and also in Pöschl-Teller potentials of the trigonometric type. In the construction of the corresponding coherent states, we take advantage of the simplicity of the solutions, which ultimat…

This paper is a direct illustration of a construction of coherent states which has been recently proposed by two of us (JPG and JK). We have chosen the example of a particle trapped in an infinite square-well and also in Pöschl-Teller potentials of the trigonometric type. In the construction of the corresponding coherent states, we take advantage of the simplicity of the solutions, which ultimately stems from the fact they share a common SU(1,1) symmetry à la Barut--Girardello. Many properties of these states are then studied, both from mathematical and from physical points of view.

The correspondence between unitary irreducible representations of the de Sitter group and the field theory on de Sitter space-time is essential in our approach. We introduce the Wightman-Gärding axiomatic for vector field on dS space. The Hilbert space structure and the unsmeared field operators $K_α(x)$ are also defined. This work is in the direct continuation of previous one concerning the scalar and the spinor cases.

Abstract:
We present in this paper a fully covariant quantization of the minimally-coupled massless field on de Sitter space. We thus obtain a formalism free of any infrared (e.g logarithmic) divergence. Our method is based on a rigorous group theoretical approach combined with a suitable adaptation (Krein spaces) of the Wightman-Gärding axiomatic for massless fields (Gupta-Bleuler scheme). We make explicit the correspondence between unitary irreducible representations of the de Sitter group and the field theory on de Sitter space-time. The minimally-coupled massless field is associated with a representation which is the lowest term of the discrete series of unitary representations of the de Sitter group. In spite of the presence of negative norm modes in the theory, no negative energy can be measured: expressions as $\le n_{k_1}n_{k_2}...|T_{00}|n_{k_1}n_{k_2}...\re$ are always positive.

Authors:

Abstract:
We present a method of coding general self-similar structures. In particular, we construct a symmetry group of a one-dimensional Thue-Morse quasicrystal, i.e., of a nonperiodic ground state of a certain translation-invariant, exponentially decaying interaction.
