Recent advancements in Multi-Robot Systems (MRS) and mesh network technologies pave the way for innovative approaches to explore extreme environments. The Artemis Accords, a series of international agreements, have further catalyzed this progress by fostering cooperation in space exploration, emphasizing the use of cutting-edge technologies. In parallel, the widespread adoption of the Robot Operating System 2 (ROS 2) by companies across various sectors underscores its robustness and versatility. This paper evaluates the performances of available ROS 2 MiddleWare (RMW), such as FastRTPS, CycloneDDS and Zenoh, over a mesh network with a dynamic topology. The final choice of RMW is determined by the one that would fit the most the scenario: an exploration of the extreme extra-terrestrial environment using a MRS. The conducted study in a real environment highlights Zenoh as a potential solution for future applications, showing a reduced delay, reachability, and CPU usage while being competitive on data overhead and RAM usage over a dynamic mesh topology

The design of Microprocessors Computer Architectures remains as a fundamental course in Computer Science and Computer Engineering. The technology and organization inside microprocessors have changed quite fast in the last twenty years. That change has increased the information handled in class, difficulting the teaching/learning process among students. Although there are tools, mainly simulators, available to exemplify abstract concepts during the course, these tools have not come along with the technology. The computer architecture group of the Centro de Investigación en Computación at the IPN Mexico is working on a project called Lagarto to create an open computing platform for research and education to simplify the understanding of fundamental concepts involved in computer architecture and operating systems. This paper introduces Lagarto, our soft-core-processor micro-architecture. It has a scalar pipeline structure and executes a full MIPS 32 R6 ISA [9] [10] and includes an MMU to support modern Operative Systems. The complete design has been described using Verilog HDL and is fully synthesizable in an FPGA. Additionally, this work shows different ways to use and test the microprocessor with codes written in either assembly language or C language. We show that the Lagarto project allows students to incorporate during the course not only the traditional model of visualizing theoretical knowledge in a practical exercise through simulators but also integrate into the teaching process the RTL design to build the Microprocessor Architecture.

This article presents a novel approach to estimate semantic entity similarity using entity features available as Linked Data. The key idea is to exploit ranked lists of features, extracted from Linked Data sources, as a representation of the entities to be compared. The similarity between two entities is then estimated by comparing their ranked lists of features. The article describes experiments with museum data from DBpedia, with datasets from a LOD catalog, and with computer science conferences from the DBLP repository. The experiments demonstrate that entity similarity, computed using ranked lists of features, achieves better accuracy than state-of-the-art measures.

Robotic picking from cluttered bins is a demanding task, for which Amazon Robotics holds challenges. The 2017 Amazon Robotics Challenge (ARC) required stowing items into a storage system, picking specific items, and packing them into boxes. In this paper, we describe the entry of team NimbRo Picking. Our deep object perception pipeline can be quickly and efficiently adapted to new items using a custom turntable capture system and transfer learning. It produces high-quality item segments, on which grasp poses are found. A planning component coordinates manipulation actions between two robot arms, minimizing execution time. The system has been demonstrated successfully at ARC, where our team reached second places in both the picking task and the final stow-and-pick task. We also evaluate individual components.

Individualized manufacturing of cars requires kitting: the collection of individual sets of part variants for each car. This challenging logistic task is frequently performed manually by warehouseman. We propose a mobile manipulation robotic system for autonomous kitting, building on the Kuka Miiwa platform which consists of an omnidirectional base, a 7 DoF collaborative iiwa manipulator, cameras, and distance sensors. Software modules for detection and pose estimation of transport boxes, part segmentation in these containers, recognition of part variants, grasp generation, and arm trajectory optimization have been developed and integrated. Our system is designed for collaborative kitting, i.e. some parts are collected by warehouseman while other parts are picked by the robot. To address safe human-robot collaboration, fast arm trajectory replanning considering previously unforeseen obstacles is realized. The developed system was evaluated in the European Robotics Challenge 2, where the Miiwa robot demonstrated autonomous kitting, part variant recognition, and avoidance of unforeseen obstacles.

We report on the creation of a database for quarkonium and open heavy-flavour production in hadronic collisions. This database, made as a collaboration between HepData and the ReteQuarkonii network of the integrating activity I3HP2 of the 7th Framework Programme, provides an up-to-date review on quarkonia and open heavy-flavour existing data. We first present the physics motivation for this project, which is connected to the aim of the ReteQuarkonii network, studies of open heavy-flavour hadrons and quarkonia in nucleus-nucleus collisions. Then we give a general overview of the database and describe the HepData database for particle physics, which is the framework of the quarkonia database. Finally we describe the functionalities of the database with as example the comparison of the production cross section for the J/$ψ$ meson at different energies.

The ALICE Collaboration has measured inclusive J/psi production in pp collisions at a center of mass energy sqrt(s)=2.76 TeV at the LHC. The results presented in this Letter refer to the rapidity ranges |y|<0.9 and 2.5<y<4 and have been obtained by measuring the electron and muon pair decay channels, respectively. The integrated luminosities for the two channels are L^e_int=1.1 nb^-1 and L^mu_int=19.9 nb^-1, and the corresponding signal statistics are N_J/psi^e+e-=59 +/- 14 and N_J/psi^mu+mu-=1364 +/- 53. We present dsigma_J/psi/dy for the two rapidity regions under study and, for the forward-y range, d^2sigma_J/psi/dydp_t in the transverse momentum domain 0<p_t<8 GeV/c. The results are compared with previously published results at sqrt(s)=7 TeV and with theoretical calculations.

We will discuss the dependence on charged particle multiplicity of the inclusive J/psi yield in proton-proton collisions at sqrt{s}=7 TeV. Finally, the analysis of the inclusive J/psi production in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt{s_NN}=2.76 TeV will be described. Preliminary results on the nuclear modification factor (R_AA) and the central to peripheral nuclear modification factor (R_CP) will be discussed.

We present a study of the inclusive J/psi cross section at 2.76 TeV and 5.5 TeV. The energy dependence of the cross section, rapidity and transverse momentum distributions are evaluated phenomenologically. Their knowledge is crucial as a reference for the interpretation of A-A and p-A J/psi results at the LHC. Our approach is the following: first, we estimate the energy evolution of the pt-integrated J/psi cross section at mid-rapidity; then, we evaluate the rapidity dependence; finally, we study the transverse momentum distribution trend. Whenever possible, both theory driven (based on pQCD predictions) and functional form (data driven fits) calculations are discussed. Our predictions are compared with the recently obtained results by the ALICE collaboration in pp collisions at 2.76 TeV.

We compute the heavy quark contributions using available pQCD-based programs. We include the nuclear shadowing modification of the parton distribution functions and the in-medium radiative energy loss for heavy quarks, using the mass-dependent BDMPS quenching weights. Muons from W and Z leptonic decays, that dominate the yield at high pt, can be used as a medium-blind reference to observe the medium-induced suppression of beauty quarks.
