We formulate the problem as a boundary integral equation in terms of the tangent angle and demonstrate the well-posedness in suitable time-weighted spaces of the resulting nonlinear and nonlocal system. The solution is furthermore shown to be smooth for positive times. Numerical computations are performed to initiate the study of the long-time behavior of the interface.

Abstract:
In this paper we consider gravity-capillarity Muskat bubbles in 2D. We obtain a new approach to improve our result in [25]. Due to a new bubble-adapted formulation, the improvement is two fold. We significantly condense the proof and we now obtain the global well-posedness result for Muskat bubbles in critical regularity.

Critical well-posedness for the 2D Peskin problem with general tension
Authors:

Abstract:
In this paper, we study the two dimensional Peskin problem with general elasticity law. Specifically, we prove global regularity for small perturbations, in suitable critical spaces, of the circle solution, possibly containing corners. For such initial data we prove asymptotic stability in the sense that as $t\to\infty$, the solution converges to a translated and rotated disk.

In this paper, we investigate the dynamics of solutions of the Muskat equation with initial interface consisting of multiple corners allowing for linear growth at infinity. Specifically, we prove that if the initial data contains a finite set of small corners then we can find a precise description of the solution showing how these corners desingularize and move at the same time.
At the analytical level, we are solving a small data critical problem which requires renormalization. This is accomplished using a nonlinear change of variables which serves as a logarithmic correction and accurately describes the motion of the corners during the evolution.

We consider general nonlinear elastic laws, i.e., the fully nonlinear Peskin problem, and prove that the problem is well-posed in low-regularity Hölder spaces. Moreover, we prove that the elastic membrane becomes smooth instantly in time.

This paper studies the dynamics of two incompressible immiscible fluids in 2D modeled by the inhomogeneous Navier-Stokes equations. We prove that if initially the viscosity contrast is small then there is global-in-time regularity. This result has been proved recently in [32] for $H^{5/2}$ Sobolev regularity of the interface. Here we provide a new approach which allows to obtain preservation of the natural $C^{1+γ}$ Hölder regularity of the interface for all $0<γ<1$. Our proof is direct and allows for low Sobolev regularity of the initial velocity without any extra technicality. It uses new quantitative harmonic analysis bounds for $C^γ$ norms of even singular integral operators on characteristic functions of $C^{1+γ}$ domains [21].

In this paper we show a constructive method to obtain $\dot{C}^σ$ estimates of even singular integral operators on characteristic functions of domains with $C^{1+σ}$ regularity, $0<σ<1$. This kind of functions were shown in first place to be bounded (classically only in the $BMO$ space) to obtain global regularity for the vortex patch problem [5, 2]. This property has then been applied to solve different type of problems in harmonic analysis and PDEs. Going beyond in regularity, the functions are discontinuous on the boundary of the domains, but $\dot{C}^σ$ in each side. This $\dot{C}^σ$ regularity has been bounded by the $C^{1+σ}$ norm of the domain [8, 14, 16]. Here we provide a quantitative bound linear in terms of the $C^{1+σ}$ regularity of the domain. This estimate shows explicitly the dependence of the lower order norm and the non-self-intersecting property of the boundary of the domain. As an application, this quantitative estimate is used in a crucial manner to the free boundary incompressible Navier-Stokes equations providing new global-in-time regularity results in the case of viscosity contrast [12].

The Peskin problem models the dynamics of a closed elastic filament immersed in an incompressible fluid. In this paper, we consider the case when the inner and outer viscosities are possibly different. This viscosity contrast adds further non-local effects to the system through the implicit non-local relation between the net force and the free interface. We prove the first global well-posedness result for the Peskin problem in this setting. The result applies for medium size initial interfaces in critical spaces and shows instant analytic smoothing. We carefully calculate the medium size constraint on the initial data. These results are new even without viscosity contrast.

In this paper, we study the dynamics of fluids in porous media governed by Darcy's law: the Muskat problem. We consider the setting of two immiscible fluids of different densities and viscosities under the influence of gravity in which one fluid is completely surrounded by the other. This setting is gravity unstable because along a portion of the interface, the denser fluid must be above the other. Surprisingly, even without capillarity, the circle-shaped bubble is a steady state solution moving with vertical constant velocity determined by the density jump between the fluids. Taking advantage of our discovery of this steady state, we are able to prove global in time existence and uniqueness of dynamic bubbles of nearly circular shapes under the influence of surface tension. We prove this global existence result for low regularity initial data. Moreover, we prove that these solutions are instantly analytic and decay exponentially fast in time to the circle.

We provide local in time existence results for initial data of arbitrary size. Furthermore, we show global in time propagation of regularity for small initial data in critical spaces. The Muskat problem models the filtration of two incompressible immiscible fluids of different characteristics in porous media. In this paper, we consider both the 2D and 3D setting of two fluids of different constant densities and different constant viscosities. In this situation, the related contour equations are non-local, not only in the evolution system, but also in the implicit relation between the amplitude of the vorticity and the free interface. Among other extra difficulties, no maximum principles are available for the amplitude and the slopes of the interface in $L^\infty$. We prove global in time existence results for medium size initial stable data in critical spaces. We also enhance previous methods by showing smoothing (instant analyticity), improving the medium size constant in 3D, together with sharp decay rates of analytic norms. The found technique is twofold, giving ill-posedness in unstable situations for very low regular solutions.

We prove that for initial patches with $W^{2,\infty}$ boundary the curvature remains bounded for all time. The proof explores new cancellations that allow us to bound $\nabla^2u$, even for those components given by time dependent singular integrals with kernels with nonzero mean on circles. In addition, we give a different proof of the $C^{1+γ}$ regularity result in [23], $0<γ<1$, using the scale of Sobolev spaces for the velocity. Furthermore, taking advantage of the new cancellations, we go beyond to show the persistence of regularity for $C^{2+γ}$ patches.
