We report an independent Doppler confirmation of the TESS planet candidate orbiting an F-type main sequence star TOI-1408 located 140 pc away. We present a set of radial velocities obtained with a high-resolution fiber-optic spectrograph FFOREST mounted at the SAO RAS 6-m telescope (BTA-6). Our self-consistent analysis of these Doppler data and TESS photometry suggests a grazing transit such that the planet obscures its host star by only a portion of the visible disc. Because of this degeneracy, the radius of TOI-1408.01 appears ill-determined with lower limit about $\sim$1 R$_{\rm Jup}$, significantly larger than in the current TESS solution. We also derive the planet mass of $1.69\pm0.20$~$M_{\rm Jup}$ and the orbital period $\sim4.425$ days, thus making this object a typical hot Jupiter, but with a significant orbital eccentricity of $0.259\pm0.026$. Our solution may suggest the planet is likely to experience a high tidal eccentricity migration at the stage of intense orbital rounding, or may indicate possible presence of other unseen companions in the system, yet to be detected.

All considered stars are classified as dwarfs with radii of $R_* = 0.4-0.6 R_{sun}$ (with the uncertainty for one star up to $1.1 R_{sun}$). We estimated the candidate radii (all are greater than 1.4 times the Jovian radius), semi-major axes of their orbits ($0.012-0.035 AU$), and other orbital parameters by modelling. We report the light curves with transits for two stars obtained in 2022 based on individual observations.

The paper describes profile broadening and peak wavelength variation of diffuse interstellar bands (DIBs) measured for 46 lines of sight, probably caused by physical properties of intervening clouds. Full width at half maximum of four studied diffuse bands (5780, 5797, 6196 and 6614 Å) demonstrate strong variability sometimes doubling the features' width. Despite the high magnitude of the effect, our current analysis is restricted to the strongest diffuse bands because the weaker ones require a much higher S/N ratio. The profile broadening in the studied DIBs moves the profile's centers towards longer wavelengths, probably due to the excitation of higher levels of the P branch of the unknown molecular carrier. Moreover, diffuse bands are broader in clouds with abundantly populated vibrationally excited states of the hydrogen molecules, i.e. DIB's broadening correlates with the rotational temperature estimated on H$_2$ $ν$=2 vibrational level. However, objects demonstrating extremely broadened profiles of DIBs are scarce. The extreme peculiarity of DIBs' profiles was detected in Herschel~36. Here we show the gradual growths of the widths of diffuse bands, confirmed in spectra from different instruments.

We analyzed 62 lines of sight where the stellar contamination by Mg{\sc ii} was corrected or found negligible for DIB 9633. Equivalent widths of DIB 9577 were measured in 62 lines of sight. Poor mutual correlation between the strengths of the above features and the major diffuse bands (5780 and 5797) as well as with other DIBs (with some exceptions) were revealed. The considered DIBs are also poorly correlated with the features of neutral hydrogen, molecular carbon, and those of simple interstellar radicals. Perhaps this phenomenon can be explained if the diffuse band 9577 is an unresolved blend of two or more interstellar features. There are indications that 9633 and 9577 diffuse bands are stronger in $σ$-type clouds, i.e. these features resemble the behavior of reasonably broad DIBs, which are strong in the lines of sight where the UV flux from the very hot nearby stars plays an important role.

In our nomenclature such objects are identified by interstellar lines, such as K I, that show at a resolving power of $λ/Δλ\sim 75,000$ one dominating Doppler component that accounts for more than half of the observed column density. We searched for such sightlines using high-resolution spectroscopy towards reddened OB stars for which far-UV extinction curves are known. We compiled a sample of 186 spectra, 100 of which were obtained specifically for this project with UVES. In our sample we identified 65 single-cloud sightlines, about half of which were previously unknown. We used the CH/CH$^+$ line ratio of our targets to establish whether the sightlines are dominated by warm or cold clouds. We found that CN is detected in all cold (CH/CH$^+ >1$) clouds, but is frequently absent in warm clouds. We inspected the WISE ($3-22\, μ$m) observed emission morphology around our sightlines and excluded a circumstellar nature for the observed dust extinction. We found that most sightlines are dominated by cold clouds that are located far away from the heating source. For 132 stars, we derived the spectral type and the associated spectral type-luminosity distance. We also applied the interstellar Ca II distance scale, and compared these two distance estimates with GAIA parallaxes. These distance estimates scatter by 40%. By comparing spectral type-luminosity distances with those of GAIA, we detected a hidden dust component that amounts to a few mag of extinction for eight sightlines. This Dark Dust is populated by $\ge 1 μ$m large grains and predominately appears in the field of the cold interstellar medium.

This paper considers a very special set of a few interstellar features --- broad diffuse interstellar bands (DIBs) at 4430, 4882, 5450, 5779 and 6175 ÅÅ. The set is small, and measurements of equivalent widths of these DIBs are challenging because of severe stellar, interstellar, and sometimes, also telluric contaminations inside their broad profiles. Nevertheless, we demonstrate that they do correlate pretty tightly (DIBs 4882 and 5450 to a lesser extent though) with other narrower diffuse bands, as well as with the color excess E(B$-$V). The studied broad DIBs correlate well with both interstellar molecule CH and interstellar K{\sc i}, i.e. it is hardly possible to verify whether the environments, facilitating the formation of very broad DIB carriers, are dominated by either molecular or atomic gas as both these species likely occupy the same volume.

This paper tries to establish whether there are variations of the central wavelengths or the profile shapes of diffuse interstellar bands (DIBs) and whether these variations are caused by different physical parameters of translucent clouds.
For this purpose we used spectra of two stars seen through two different single clouds: HD34078 (AE Aur) \& HD73882 acquired using
two different instruments: the MIKE spectrograph, fed with the 6.5 m Magellan telescope at Las Campanas Observatory, and the UVES, fed with the 8 m Kueyen telescope at the Paranal observatory. The wavelength displacements of the DIBs at 6196, 6203, 6376, 6379 and 6614 Å with respect to the well known interstellar atomic and molecular lines (K{\sc i} and CH) have been measured. The mentioned shift is seemingly absent in the DIBs at 4726, 4964, 4763, and 4780 Å. In addition the considered profiles may show (in HD34078) extended red wings. The observed phenomena are likely related to physical parameters of intervening clouds (rotational temperatures of molecular species) and may help in the identification of the DIB carriers.

It is well known that interstellar spectral features correlate with color excess E(B$-$V). This suggests that measuring intensities of these features allows one to estimate reddening of stars. The aim of this paper is to check how tight intensities of interstellar diffuse bands (DIBs)are related to the amount of extinction, measured using E(B$-$V). We have measured equivalent widths of the strongest DIBs (centered at $λλ$ 5780.6, 5797.0, 6196.0, 6379.3, 6613.5, and 8620.7 A), as well as of CH (near 4300.3 A) and CH$^+$ (near 4232.5 A) in high resolution, high S/N ratio echelle spectra from several spectrographs. The equivalent widths of the 8620 DIB in noisy spectra were measured using a template, which was constructed using the high quality spectrum of BD+40 4220. DIB relations with the color excess in the range 0.1--2.0 mag were examined. Our careful analysis demonstrates that all the above mentioned interstellar spectral features (except, perhaps, 6379 DIB) do correlate with E(B$-$V) relatively tightly (with the Pearson's correlation coefficient of 0.8+). Moreover, the observed scatter is apparently not caused by measurement errors but is of physical origin. We present several examples where the strength ratios of a DIB/molecule to E(B$-$V) are different than the average.

The determination of fundamental parameters of stars is one of the main tasks of astrophysics. For magnetic chemically peculiar stars, this problem is complicated by the anomalous chemical composition of their atmospheres, which requires special analysis methods. We present the results of the effective temperature, surface gravity, abundance and radius determinations for three CP stars HD 188041, HD 111133, and HD 204411. Our analysis is based on a self-consistent model fitting of high-resolution spectra and spectrophrotometric observations over a wide wavelength range, taking into account the anomalous chemical composition of atmospheres and the inhomogeneous vertical distribution for three chemical elements: Ca, Cr, and Fe. For two stars, HD 188041 and HD 204411, we also performed interferometric observations which provided us with the direct estimates of stellar radii. Parameters for another 8 CP stars are collected. Comparison of the radii determined from the analysis of spectroscopic/spectrophotometric observations with direct measurements of the radii by interferometry methods for seven CP stars shows that the radii agree within the limits of measurement errors, which proves indirect spectroscopic analysis capable of proving reliable determinations of the fundamental parameters of fainter Ap stars that are not possible to study with modern interferometric facilities.

We present the results of an experimental study of an advanced moderate-resolution spectrograph based on a cascade of narrow-band holographic gratings. The main goal of the project is to achieve a moderately high spectral resolutionwith R up to 5000 simultaneously in the 4300-6800 A visible spectral range on a single standard CCD, together with an increased throughput. The experimental study consisted of (1) resolution and image quality tests performed using the solar spectrum; and (2) a total throughput test performed for a number of wavelengths using a calibrated lab monochromator. The measured spectral resolving power reaches values over R>4000 while the experimental throughput is as high as 55%, which is in good agreement with the modeling results. Comparing the obtained characteristics of the spectrograph under consideration with the best existing spectrographs, we conclude that the used concept can be considered a very competitive and cheap alternative to the existing spectrographs of the given class. We propose several astrophysical applications for the instrument and discuss the prospect of creating its full-scale version.

We present high-resolution spectropolarimetric observations of the spectroscopic binary Chi Dra. Spectral lines in the spectrum of the main component Chi Dra A show variable Zeeman displacement, which confrms earlier suggestions about the presence of a weak magnetic field on the surface of this star. Within about 2 years of time base of our observations, the longitudinal component BL of the magnetic field exhibits variation from -11.5 +/- 2.5 G to +11.1 +/- 2.1 G with a period of about 23 days. Considering the rotational velocity of Chi DraA in the literature and that newly measured in this work, this variability may be explained by the stellar rotation under the assumption that the magnetic field is globally stable. Our new measurements of the radial velocities (RV) in high-resolution I-spectra of Chi Dra A refined the orbital parameters and reveal persistent deviations of RVs from the orbital curve. We suspect that these deviations may be due to the in uence of local magnetically generated spots, pulsations, or a Jupiter-size planet orbiting the system.

We demonstrate, using the high resolution spectra from the ESPADONS spectrograph, fed with the 3.6m CFH telescope, that the strength ratios of the strong--to--weak spectral features, attributed to C$_{60}^+$, are variable. We found that in the range of expected 9366~Å C$_{60}^+$ feature there are two diffuse bands centered at 9362.0$\pm$0.1 and 9365.3$\pm$0.1 Å with variable intensity ratio. We confidently confirm the lack of 9428~Å feature which, in the laboratory spectra of C$_{60}^+$, is stronger than 9366~Å. The weakest laboratory feature, near 9348.4~Å\, remains below the level of detection in all spectra. The intensity ratio 9577/9365 is variable. These facts contradict to their common origin and so -- the identification of some interstellar spectral features as being carried by the cation of the "soccer ball". We also refined the rest wavelength position of the strongest diffuse band in this range: it is 9576.8$\pm$0.1~Å.

Optical and near-infrared photometry, optical spectroscopy, and soft X-ray and UV monitoring of the changing look active galactic nucleus NGC 2617 show that it continues to have the appearance of a type-1 Seyfert galaxy. An optical light curve for 2010-2016 indicates that the change of type probably occurred between 2010 October and 2012 February and was not related to the brightening in 2013. In 2016 NGC 2617 brightened again to a level of activity close to that in 2013 April. We find variations in all passbands and in both the intensities and profiles of the broad Balmer lines. A new displaced emission peak has appeared in H$β$. X-ray variations are well correlated with UV-optical variability and possibly lead by $\sim$ 2-3 d. The $K$ band lags the $J$ band by about 21.5 $\pm$ 2.5 d. and lags the combined $B+J$ filters by $\sim$ 25 d. $J$ lags $B$ by about 3 d. This could be because $J$-band variability arises from the outer part of the accretion disc, while $K$-band variability comes from thermal re-emission by dust. We propose that spectral-type changes are a result of increasing central luminosity causing sublimation of the innermost dust in the hollow biconical outflow. We briefly discuss various other possible reasons that might explain the dramatic changes in NGC 2617.

The laboratory gas phase spectrum recently published by Campbell et al. has reinvigorated attempts to confirm the presence of the C$_{60}^+$ cation in the interstellar medium, thorough an analysis of the spectra of hot, reddened stars. This search is hindered by at least two issues that need to be addressed: (i) the wavelength range of interest is severely polluted by strong water- vapour lines coming from the Earth's atmosphere; (ii) one of the major bands attributed to C$_{60}^+$, at 9633 Å, is blended with the stellar Mg{\sc ii} line, which is susceptible to non-local-thermodynamic equilibrium effects in hot stellar atmospheres. Both these issues are here carefully considered here for the first time, based on high-resolution and high signal-to-noise ratio echellé spectra for 19 lines of sight. The result is that the presence of C$_{60}^+$ in interstellar clouds is brought into question.

Abstract:
We confirm, using spectra from seven observatories, that the diffuse bands 6196 and 6614 are very tightly correlated. However, their strength ratio is not constant as well as profile shapes. Apparently the two interstellar features do not react in unison to the varying physical conditions of different interstellar clouds.

Searches for magnetic fields in white dwarfs have clarified both the frequency of occurrence and the global structure of the fields found down to field strengths of the order of 500 kG. Below this level, the situation is still very unclear. We are studying the weakest fields found in white dwarfs to determine the frequency of such fields and their structure. We describe a very sensitive new method of measuring such fields in DA (H-rich) white dwarfs, and search for a field in the brightest such star, 40 Eri B. Our new method makes use of the strongly enhanced polarisation signal in the sharp core of Halpha. We find that with one-hour integrations with the high-resolution spectropolarimeter ESPaDOnS on the 3.6-m CFHT, we can reach a standard error fo the longitudinal field of about 85 G, the smallest error ever achieved for any white dwarf. Nevertheless, we do not detect a magnetic field in this star. Observations with ISIS at the WHT, and the Main Stellar Spectrograph at the SAO, support the absence of a field at somewhat lower precision. The new method is very efficient; it is shown that for suitable DA stars the integration time, with ESPaDOnS on a 3.6-m telescope, to reach a 500 G standard error on a white dwarf of V = 12.5, is about half an hour, about the same as the time required on an ESO 8-m telescope with FORS using conventional low-resolution spectropolarimetry.

A robust classification of Cepheids into their different sub-classes and, in particular, between classical and Type II Cepheids, is necessary to properly calibrate the period-luminosity relations and for populations studies in the Galactic disc. Type II Cepheids are, however, very diverse, and classifications based either on intrinsic (period, light curve) or external parameters (e.g., [Fe/H], |z|) do not provide a unique classification. We want to ascertain the classification of two Cepheids, HQ Car and DD Vel, that are sometimes classified as classical Cepheids and sometimes as Type II Cepheids. To achieve this goal, we examine both their chemical composition and the presence of specific features in their spectra. We find emission features in the Hα and in the 5875.64 Å He I lines that are typical of W Vir stars. The [Na/Fe] (or [Na/Zn]) abundances are typical of thick-disc stars, while BL Her stars are Na-overabundant ([Na/Fe]>+0.5 dex). Finally, the two Cepheids show a possible (HQ Car) or probable (DD Vel) signature of mild dust-gas separation that is usually observed only in long-period type II Cepheids and RV Tau stars. These findings clearly indicate that HQ Car and DD Vel are both Type II Cepheids from the W Vir sub-class. Several studies have reported an increase in the Cepheids' abundance dispersion towards the outer (thin) disc. A detailed inspection of the Cepheid classification, in particular for those located in the outer disc, will indicate whether this feature is real or simply an artefact of the inclusion of type II Cepheids belonging to the thick disc in the current samples.

The rotation curve of the Galaxy is generally thought to be flat. However, using radial velocities from interstellar molecular clouds, which is common in rotation curve determination, seems to be incorrect and may lead to incorrectly inferring that the rotation curve is flat indeed. Tests basing on photometric and spectral observations of bright stars may be misleading. The rotation tracers (OB stars) are affected by motions around local gravity centers and pulsation effects seen in such early type objects. To get rid of the latter a lot of observing work must be involved. We introduce a method of studying the kinematics of the thin disc of our Galaxy outside the solar orbit in a way that avoids these problems. We propose a test based on observations of interstellar CaII H and K lines that determines both radial velocities and distances. We implemented the test using stellar spectra of thin disc stars at galactic longitudes of 135{\degr} and 180{\degr}. Using this method, we constructed the rotation curve of the thin disc of the Galaxy. The test leads to the obvious conclusion that the rotation curve of the thin gaseous galactic disk, represented by the CaII lines, is Keplerian outside the solar orbit rather than flat.

The calculated methylidyne column densities, obtained using the consistent system of the oscillator strengths toward the observed targets, are given as well. We verify oscillator strengths of the CH+ A-X (0, 0) and (0, 1) bands at 4232 Å and 3957 Å equal to 545 and 342$\times$10$^{-5}$ respectively. We also confirm the lack of correlation between abundances of neutral CH and CH$^{+}$ which the fact demonstrates that they are originated in different environments.

We report the detection of eight vibronic bands of C$_3$, seven of which have been hitherto unobserved in astrophysical objects, in the translucent cloud towards HD~169454. Four of these bands are also found towards two additional objects: HD~73882 and HD~154368. Very high signal-to-noise ratio ($\sim$1000 and higher) and high resolving power ($R=80,000$) UVES-VLT spectra (Paranal, Chile) allow for detecting novel spectral features of C$_3$, even revealing weak perturbed features in the strongest bands. The work presented here provides the most complete spectroscopic survey of the so far largest carbon chain detected in translucent interstellar clouds. High-quality laboratory spectra of C$_3$ are measured using cavity ring-down absorption spectroscopy in a supersonically expanding hydrocarbon plasma, to support the analysis of the identified bands towards HD~169454. A column density of N(C$_3$) = $(6.6 \pm 0.2) \times 10^{12}$ cm$^{-2}$ is inferred and the excitation of the molecule exhibits two temperature components; $T_{exc}= 22 \pm 1$ K for the low-$J$ states and $T_{exc}= 187 \pm 25$ K for the high-$J$ tail. The rotational excitation of C$_3$ is reasonably well explained by models involving a mechanism including inelastic collisions, formation and destruction of the molecule, and radiative pum** in the far-infrared. These models yield gas kinetic temperatures comparable to those found for $T_{exc}$. The assignment of spectral features in the UV-blue range 3793-4054 Å may be of relevance for future studies aiming at unravelling spectra to identify interstellar molecules associated with the diffuse interstellar bands (DIBs).

Two observational campaigns were carried out during the eclipses of EE Cep in 2003 and 2008/9 to verify whether the eclipsing body in the system is indeed a dark disk and to understand the observed changes in the depth and durations of the eclipses. Multicolour photometric data and spectroscopic observations at both low and high resolution were collected. We numerically modelled the variations in brightness and colour during the eclipses. We tested models with different disk structure. We considered the possibility of disk precession. The complete set of observational data collected during the last three eclipses are made available to the astronomical community. Two blue maxima in the colour indices were detected during these two eclipses, one before and one after the photometric minimum. The first (stronger) blue maximum is simultaneous with a "bump" that is very clear in all the UBVRI light curves. Variations in the spectral line profiles seem to be recurrent during each cycle. NaI lines always show at least three absorption components during the eclipse minimum and strong absorption is superimposed on the H_alpha emission. These observations confirm that the eclipsing object in EE Cep system is indeed a dark, dusty disk around a low luminosity object. The primary appears to be a rapidly rotating Be star that is strongly darkened at the equator and brightened at the poles. Some of the conclusions of this work require verification in future studies: (i) a complex, possibly multi-ring structure of the disk in EE Cep; (ii) our explanation of the "bump" observed during the last two eclipses in terms of the different times of obscuration of the hot polar regions of the Be star by the disk; and (iii) our suggested period of the disk precession (~11-12 P_orb) and predicted depth of about 2 mag the forthcoming eclipse in 2014.

In this paper, we present new data with interstellar C2 (Phillips bands A-X), from observations made with the Ultraviolet-Visual Echelle Spectrograph of the European Southern Observatory. We have determined the interstellar column densities and excitation temperatures of C2 for nine Galactic lines. For seven of these, C2 has never been observed before, so in this case the still small sample of interstellar clouds (26 lines of sight), where a detailed analysis of C2 excitation has been made, has increased significantly. This paper is a continuation of previous works where interstellar molecules (C2 and diffuse interstellar bands) have been analysed. Because the sample of interstellar clouds with C2 has increased, we can show that the width and shape of the profiles of some diffuse interstellar bands (6196 and 5797 A) apparently depend on the gas kinetic and rotational temperatures of C2; the profiles are broader because of the higher values of the gas kinetic and rotational temperatures of C2. There are also diffuse interstellar bands (4964 and 5850 A) for which this effect does not exist.

The presence of electric currents in the atmospheres of magnetic chemically peculiar (mCP) stars could bring important theoretical constrains about the nature and evolution of magnetic field in these stars. The Lorentz force, which results from the interaction between the magnetic field and the induced currents, modifies the atmospheric structure and induces characteristic rotational variability of pressure-sensitive spectroscopic features, that can be analysed using phase-resolved spectroscopic observations. In this work we continue the presentation of results of the magnetic pressure studies in mCP stars focusing on the high-resolution spectroscopic observations of Bp star 56Ari. We have detected a significant variability of the Halpha, Hbeta, and Hgamma spectral lines during full rotation cycle of the star. Then these observations are interpreted in the framework of the model atmosphere analysis, which accounts for the Lorentz force effects. We used the LLmodels stellar model atmosphere code for the calculation of the magnetic pressure effects in the atmosphere of 56Ari taking into account realistic chemistry of the star and accurate computations of the microscopic plasma properties. The Synth3 code was employed to simulate phase-resolved variability of Balmer lines. We demonstrate that the model with the outward-directed Lorentz force in the dipole+quadrupole configuration is likely to reproduce the observed hydrogen lines variation. These results present strong evidences for the presence of non-zero global electric currents in the atmosphere of this early-type magnetic star.

The comparison of normalised equivalent width of 12 DIBs with the electron density shows that the DIBs equivalent width do not change with electron density varying in the range ne=0.01-2.5 cm^-3. Therefore the DIBs carriers (1) can be observed only in one ionisation stage, or (2) the DIBs are arising in cloud regions (eg. cores or cloud coronas) for which we can not determine the electron density.

Several dynamical processes may induce considerable electric currents in the atmospheres of magnetic chemically peculiar (CP) stars. The Lorentz force, which results from the interaction between the magnetic field and the induced currents, modifies the atmospheric structure and induces characteristic rotational variability of the hydrogen Balmer lines. To study this phenomena we have initiated a systematic spectroscopic survey of the Balmer lines variation in magnetic CP stars. In this paper we continue presentation of results of the program focusing on the high-resolution spectral observations of A0p star \aur (HD 40312). We have detected a significant variability of the H$α$, H$β$, and H$γ$ spectral lines during full rotation cycle of the star. This variability is interpreted in the framework of the model atmosphere analysis, which accounts for the Lorentz force effects. Both the inward and outward directed Lorentz forces are considered under the assumption of the axisymmetric dipole or dipole+quadrupole magnetic field configurations. We demonstrate that only the model with the outward directed Lorentz force in the dipole+quadrupole configuration is able to reproduce the observed hydrogen line variation. These results present new strong evidences for the presence of non-zero global electric currents in the atmosphere of an early-type magnetic star.

Analysis of high spectral resolution observations of the $λ$6614 diffuse interstellar band (DIB) line profile show systematic variations in the positions of the peaks in the substructure of the profile. These variations -- shown here for the first time -- can be understood most naturally in the framework of rotational contours of large molecules, where the variations are caused by changes in the rotational excitation temperature. We show that the rotational excitation temperature for the DIB carrier is likely significantly lower than the gas kinetic temperature -- indicating that for this particular DIB carrier angular momentum buildup is not very efficient.

We discuss the way of increasing of the number of chemical elements, investigated in stellar spectra. We can reach it by using spectrum synthesis method, new atomic data and observation of stellar spectra with resolution comparable to solar spectral atlases. We show two examples of this kind researches. The first is the implementation of new atomic data to well known Przybylski's star. We show that the number of spectral lines, which can be identificated in the spectrum of this star can be significantly higher. The second example is the investigation of zeta Cyg. We found the abundances of 51 elements in the atmosphere of this mild barium star.

We present the result of chemical abundances of a mild barium star HD202109 (zeta Cyg) determined from the analysis of spectrum obtained by using a 2-m telescope at the Peak Terskol Observatory and a high-resolution spectrometer with R=80,000, signal to noise ratio >100. We also present the atmospheric parameters of the star determined by using various methods including iron-line abundance analysis. For line identifications, we use whole-range synthetic spectra computed by using the Kurucz database and the latest lists of spectral lines. Among the determined abundances of 51 elements, those of P, S, K, Cu, Zn, Ge, Rb, Sr, Nb, Mo, Ru, Rh, Pd, In, Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy, Er, Tm, Hf, Os, Ir, Pt, Tl, and Pb have not been previously known. Under the assumption that the overabundance pattern of Ba stars is due to wind-accretion process, adding information of more element abundances enables one to show that the heavy element overabundances of HD202109 can be explained with the wind accretion scenario model.

Abstract:
We have performed abundance analysis of two slowly rotating, late A-type stars, HD 32115 (HR 1613) and HD 37594 (HR 1940), based on obtained echelle spectra covering the spectral range 4000-9850 AAngstrom. These spectra allowed us to identify an extensive line list for 31 chemical elements, the most complete to date for A-type stars. Two approaches to abundance analysis were used, namely a ``man…

Two approaches to abundance analysis were used, namely a ``manual'' (interactive) and a semi-automatic procedure for comparison of synthetic and observed spectra and equivalent widths. For some elements non-LTE (NLTE) calculations were carried out and the corresponding corrections have been applied. The abundance pattern of HD 32115 was found to be very close to the solar abundance pattern, and thus may be used as an abundance standard for chemical composition studies in middle and late A stars. Further, its H-alpha line profile shows no core-to-wing anomaly like that found for cool Ap stars and therefore also may be used as a standard in comparative studies of the atmospheric structures of cool, slowly rotating Ap stars. HD 37594 shows a metal deficiency at the level of -0.3 dex for most elements and triangle-like cores of spectral lines. This star most probably belongs to the Delta Scuti group.

We report spectral time series of the late O-type runaway supergiant HD 188209. Radial velocity variations of photospheric absorption lines with a possible quasi-period ~ 6.4 days have been detected in high-resolution echelle spectra. Night-to-night variations in the position and strength of the central emission reversal of the Ha profile occuring over ill-defined time-scales have been observed. The fundamental parameters of the star have been derived using state-of-the-art plane--parallel and unified non-LTE model atmospheres, these last including the mass-loss rate. The derived helium abundance is moderately enhanced with respect to solar, and the stellar masses are lower than those predicted by the evolutionary models. The binary nature of this star is not suggested either from Hipparcos photometry or from radial velocity curves.

Abstract:
A careful investigation of a CCD spectrum of the SB1 system kappa Cnc in the spectral region 3800 A - 8000 A resulted in the discovery of the lines of the secondary star. We then analyzed several short-wavelength range Reticon spectra obtained at different orbital phases to find additional radial velocities. The mass ratio is m_A/m_B = 2.2 +- 0.1 and, from binary spectrum-synthesis, the ratio of…
