An analysis with transferred hyperfine field has been performed on the spectra of the $^{115}$In nuclear quadrupole resonance experiments of heavy fermion superconductor Ce$_{3}$PtIn$_{11}$ exhibiting co-occurrence of two successive antiferromagnetic orderings ($T_{\rm N1}$ = 2.2 K and $T_{\rm N2}$ = 2.0 K) followed by superconducting transition ($T_{\rm c}$ = 0.32 K). The spectral changes at magnetic transition temperatures $T_{\rm N1}$ and $T_{\rm N2}$ indicate that the Ce(2) site has the dominant magnetic contribution, with a small magnetic moment, but not negligible, at the Ce(1) site. Our analysis using transferred hyperfine field which overcomes the previous simple dipolar model evinces that for $T_{\rm N2} < T < T_{\rm N1 } $, the propagation vectors at the Ce(1) and Ce(2) sublattices are q1 = q2 = (1/2, 1/2, 0 or 1/2), whereas for $T < T_{\rm N2 }$, the propagation vectors are q1 = (1/2,~1/2, 1/6 or 1/3) and q2 = (1/2, 1/2, 1/2 or 0), respectively.

Nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) measurements were performed on the heavy fermion superconductor Ce3PtIn11 with Tc = 0.32 K. The temperature dependence of both spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T1 and NQR spectra evidences the occurrence of two successive magnetic transitions with TN1 = 2.2 K and TN2 = 2.0 K. In successive magnetic transitions, even though the magnetic moment at the Ce(2) site plays a major role, the magnetic moment at the Ce(1) site also contributes to some extent. While a commensurate antiferromagnetic ordered state appears for TN2 < T < TN1, a partially incommensurate antiferromagnetic ordered state is suggested for T < TN2.

We report a novel phenomenon intimately related to the spin-triplet superconductivity. It is well known that the spin susceptibility decreases below the superconducting transition temperature in almost all superconductors because of spin-singlet pair formation, while it may remain unchanged in a handful of spin-triplet exceptions. Here we report the observation in Sr$_2$RuO$_4$ with nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) that the spin susceptibility originating from the Ru-4$d$ electron slightly $increases$ by $\sim 2 $\% of total and becomes inhomogeneous in the superconducting state. These are reasonably explained if the electron pairs form the equal-spin-pairing (ESP) in the mixed state. A similar phenomenon was predicted for superfluid $^3$He forty years ago, but had never been demonstrated in any superconductor.

Electrical resistivity, specific heat, magnetic susceptibility, X-ray diffraction and powder neutron diffraction measurements were conducted to obtain temperature and composition phase diagram of this system. New type of magnetic structure appears in intermediate compositions, which is similar to stripe magnetism of CsFe$_2$Se$_3$, but inter-ladder spin configuration is different. Intermediate compounds show insulating behavior, nevertheless finite $T$-linear contribution in specific heat was obtained at low temperatures.

It is also temperature-dependent and survives up to ~90K. We attribute this kink to electron-mode coupling in good agreement with the inelastic neutron scattering (INS) and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) results on the same compound which observed a similar bosonic mode associated with spin excitations. The relation between the mode energy (Ω) and the SC transition temperature (Tc) deduced from our Laser ARPES data follow the universal relation deduced from INS and STM. In addition, we could resolve another kink at higher BE showing less do** and temperature dependence and may thus be of different origin.

The temperature, field, and field-orientation dependences of the electronic specific heat Ce of the ironpnictide superconductor KFe2As2 have been investigated. Thermodynamic evidence of the presence of line nodes is obtained from the T and $\sqrt{H}$ linear dependences of Ce/T in the low-T and low-H region. Under a magnetic field rotated within the tetragonal ab plane, a fourfold oscillation is observed in Ce with a sign change at 0.08Tc. On the basis of the Doppler-shift analysis, the observed Ce minima in H // [100] at low T indicate the presence of line nodes somewhere on the Fermi surface where the Fermi velocity is parallel to the [100] direction; this is consistent with the octet-line-node scenario proposed recently by a photoemission experiment. In addition, the low-T Ce/T exhibits an unusual upturn on cooling at moderate fields only for H // ab, which is understood in terms of the strong Pauli paramagnetic effect on multiband superconductivity.

We carried out combined transport and optical measurements for BaFe2As2 and five isostructural transition-metal (TM) pnictides. The low-energy optical conductivity spectra of these compounds are, to a good approximation, decomposed into a narrow Drude (coherent) component and an incoherent component. The iron arsenides, BaFe2As2 and KFe2As2, are distinct from other pnictides in their highly incoherent charge dynamics or bad metallic behavior with the coherent Drude component occupying a tiny fraction of the low-energy spectral weight. The fraction of the coherent spectral weight or the degree of coherence is shown to be well correlated with the TM-pnictogen bond angle and the electron filling of TM 3d orbitals, which are measures of the strength of electronic correlations. The iron arsenides are thus strongly correlated systems, and the do** into BaFe2As2 controls the strength of electronic correlations. This naturally explains a remarkable asymmetry in the charge dynamics of electron- and hole-doped systems, and the unconventional superconductivity appears to emerge when the correlations are fairly strong.

To gain insight into the unconventional superconductivity of Fe-pnictides with no electron pockets, we measure the thermal conductivity $κ$ and penetration depth $λ$ in the heavily hole-doped regime of Ba$_{1-x}$K$_x$Fe$_2$As$_2$. The residual thermal conductivity $(κ/T)_{T \rightarrow 0\,{\rm K}}$ and $T$-dependence of $λ$ consistently indicate the fully gapped superconductivity at $x=0.76$ and the (line) nodal superconductivity at higher hole concentrations. The magnitudes of $\fracκ{T}\cdot T_c|_{T \rightarrow 0\,{\rm K}}$ and $\frac{dλ}{d(T/T_c)}$ at low temperatures, both of which are determined by the properties of the low-energy excitations, exhibit a highly unusual non-monotonic x-dependence. These results indicate a dramatic change of the nodal characteristics in a narrow do** range, suggesting a do** crossover of the gap function between the s-wave states with and without sign reversal between $Γ$-centered hole pockets.

The first one is attributed to a hole cylinder near the X point of the Brillouin zone, while the others to hole cylinders at the $Γ$ point. We also observe magnetic breakdown frequencies between $α$ and $ζ$ and suggest a plausible explanation for them. The experimental frequencies show deviations from frequencies predicted by band structure calculations. Large effective masses up to 19 $m_e$ for $B \parallel c$ have been found, $m_e$ being the free electron mass. The carrier number and Sommerfeld coefficient of the specific heat are estimated to be 1.01 -- 1.03 holes per formula unit and 82 -- 94 mJmol$^{-1}$K$^{-2}$, respectively, which are consistent with the chemical stoichiometry and a direct measure of 93 mJmol$^{-1}$K$^{-2}$ [H. Fukazawa \textit{et al}., J. Phys. Soc. Jpn. \textbf{80SA}, SA118 (2011)]. The Sommerfeld coefficient is about 9 times enhanced over a band value, suggesting the importance of low-energy spin and/or orbital fluctuations, and places KFe$_2$As$_2$ among strongly correlated metals. We have also performed dHvA measurements on Ba$_{0.07}$K$_{0.93}$Fe$_2$As$_2$ and have observed the $α$ and $β$ frequencies.

The nature of the pairing state in iron-based superconductors is the subject of much debate. Here we argue that in one material, the stoichiometric iron pnictide KFe2As2, there is overwhelming evidence for a d-wave pairing state, characterized by symmetry-imposed vertical line nodes in the superconducting gap. This evidence is reviewed, with a focus on thermal conductivity and the strong impact of impurity scattering on the critical temperature Tc. We then compare KFe2As2 to Ba0.6K0.4Fe2As2, obtained by Ba substitution, where the pairing symmetry is s-wave and the Tc is ten times higher. The transition from d-wave to s-wave within the same crystal structure provides a rare opportunity to investigate the connection between band structure and pairing mechanism. We also compare KFe2As2 to the nodal iron-based superconductor LaFePO, for which the pairing symmetry is probably not d-wave, but more likely s-wave with accidental line nodes.

The electronic structure near the Fermi level (EF) of Ba1-xKxFe2As2 (BaK122 ; x = 0.2 - 0.7) is studied using laser ultrahigh-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy(ARPES). For the optimally doped case of x = 0.4, we clearly observe two peaks below Tc in the ARPES spectra at a binding energies (BE) of 5 meV and 13meV. The former is assigned to a superconducting (SC) coherence peak since it appears and evolves below the bulk SC transition at Tc (= 36 K), accompanying a gap opening centered at EF. In contrast, the latter peak, which appears below ~ 90 K without any gap formation, is interpreted to be not directly related to a SC coherence peak. This high-BE peak is observed from x = 0.2 to 0.6, reduces in energy with overdo** (x > 0.4) and is absent for x = 0.7. The temperature(T)- and do**-dependent ARPES results suggest that the high-BE peak originates from coupling to a bosonic mode of energy ~ 8 meV.

After formation of a short-range magnetic correlation, a long-range ordering was observed below $T_{\rm N}\sim 255$ K. The transition is obscured by bulk properties. Magnetic moments ($\parallel a$) are arranged to form a Fe$_4$ ferromagnetic unit, and each Fe$_4$ stacks antiferromagnetically. This block magnetism is of the third type among magnetic structures of ferrous materials. The magnetic ordering drives unusually large distortion via magnetoelastic coupling.

The thermal conductivity of the iron-arsenide superconductor KFe2As2 was measured down to 50 mK for a heat current parallel and perpendicular to the tetragonal c-axis. A residual linear term (RLT) at T=0 is observed for both current directions, confirming the presence of nodes in the superconducting gap. Our value of the RLT in the plane is equal to that reported by Dong et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 104, 087005 (2010)] for a sample whose residual resistivity was ten times larger. This independence of the RLT on impurity scattering is the signature of universal heat transport, a property of superconducting states with symmetry-imposed line nodes. This argues against an s-wave state with accidental nodes. It favors instead a d-wave state, an assignment consistent with five additional properties: the magnitude of the critical scattering rate for suppressing Tc to zero; the magnitude of the RLT, and its dependence on current direction and on magnetic field; the temperature dependence of the thermal conductivity.

We have observed that the flux-line lattice forms triangular symmetry when we applied the field parallel to c-axis, suggesting the interaction between vortices should be isotropic. The temperature dependence of the penetration depth observd with an applied field parallel and perpendicular to c-axis are different. These results can be accounted for by a superconducting gap function with a horizontal line node in the basal plane.

We have performed ^{75}As nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) on single crystalline Ba_{1-x}K_{x}Fe_{2}As_{2} for x = 0.27-1. ^{75}As nuclear quadruple resonance frequency (ν_{Q}) increases linearly with increasing x. The Knight shift K in normal state shows Pauli paramagnetic behavior with slight temperature T dependence. The value of K increases gradually with increasing x. By contrast, nuclear spin- lattice relaxation rate 1/T_{1} in normal state has a large T-dependence, which indicates existence of large antiferomagnetic (AF) spin fluctuations for all x. The T-dependence of 1/T_{1} shows a gap-like behavior below approximately 100 K for 0.6 < x < 0.9. These behaviors are well explained by the change of band structure with expansion of hole Fermi surfaces and shrink and disappearance of electron Fermi surfaces at Brillouin zone (BZ) with increasing x. The anisotropy of 1/T_{1}, represented by a ratio of 1/T_{1ab} to 1/T_{1c}, is always larger than 1 for all x, which indicates that the stripe-type AF fluctuations is dominant in this system. The K in superconducting (SC) state decreases, which corresponds to appearance of spin-singlet superconductivity. The T dependence of 1/T_{1} in SC state indicates multiple-SC-gap feature. A simple two gap model analysis shows that the larger superconducting gap gradually decreases with increasing x from 0.27 to 1 and smaller gap decreases rapidly and nearly vanishes for x > 0.6 where the electron pockets in BZ disappear.

From the AMROs, we determined the two Q2D FSs with rounded-square cross sections, corresponding to 12% and 17% of the first Brillouin zone. The rounded-squared shape of the FS cross section is also confirmed by the analyses of the interlayer transport under in-plane fields. From the obtained FS shape, we infer the character of the 3d orbitals that contribute to the FSs.

An encapsulation technique using commercial stainless steel container allowed the stable crystal growth lasting for more than 2 weeks. Ternary K-Fe-As systems with various starting compositions were examined to determine the optimal growth conditions. Employment of KAs flux led to the growth of large single crystals with the typical size of as large as 15 mm x 10 mm x 0.4 mm. The grown crystals exhibit sharp superconducting transition at 3.4 K with the transition width 0.2 K, as well as the very large residual resistivity ratio exceeding 450, evidencing the good sample quality.

A neutron scattering study of heavily hole-overdoped superconducting KFe$_2$As$_2$ revealed a well-defined low-energy incommensurate spin fluctuation at [$π(1\pm2δ$),0] with $δ$ = 0.16. The incommensurate structure differs from the previously observed commensurate peaks in electron-doped $A$Fe$_2$As$_2$ ($A$ = Ba, Ca, or Sr) at low energies. The direction of the peak splitting is perpendicular to that observed in Fe(Te,Se) or in Ba(Fe,Co)$_2$As$_2$ at high energies. A band structure calculation suggests interband scattering between bands around the $Γ$ and X points as an origin of this incommensurate peak. The perpendicular direction of the peak splitting can be understood within the framework of multiorbital band structure. The results suggest that spin fluctuation is more robust in hole-doped than in electron-doped samples, which can be responsible for the appearance of superconductivity in the heavily hole-doped samples.

Understanding the mechanism and symmetry of electron pairing in iron-based superconductors represents an important challenge in condensed matter physics [1-3]. The observation of magnetic flux lines - "vortices" - in a superconductor can contribute to this issue, because the spatial variation of magnetic field reflects the pairing. Unlike many other iron pnictides, our KFe2As2 crystals have very weak vortex pinning, allowing small-angle-neutron-scattering (SANS) observations of the intrinsic vortex lattice (VL). We observe nearly isotropic hexagonal packing of vortices, without VL-symmetry transitions up to high fields along the fourfold c-axis of the crystals, indicating rather small anisotropy of the superconducting properties around this axis. This rules out gap nodes parallel to the c-axis, and thus d-wave and also anisotropic s-wave pairing [2, 3]. The strong temperature-dependence of the intensity down to T<<Tc indicates either widely different full gaps on different Fermi surface sheets, or nodal lines perpendicular to the axis.

We have observed no sign of magnetic fluctuation against temperature in the muons' time window (10$^{-5}\sim$ 10$^{-9}$s). Considering the current results and other results, i.e., spin fluctuation observed by neutron scattering, pseudogap-like behaviors by NMR and photoemission spectroscopy, it is suggested that not only the spin fluctuation but also the multiband character with several different orbital contributions at the Fermi surface may play an important role in the superconducting pairing mechanism of LaFeAsO$_{1-x}$F$_x$.

Among the iron-based pnictide superconductors the material KFe$_2$As$_2$ is unusual in that its Fermi surface does not consist of quasi-nested electron and hole pockets. Here we report measurements of the temperature dependent London penetration depth of very clean crystals of this compound with residual resistivity ratio $>1200$. We show that the superfluid density at low temperatures exhibits a strong linear-in-temperature dependence which implies that there are line nodes in the energy gap on the large zone-centered hole sheets. The results indicate that KFe$_2$As$_2$ is an unconventional superconductor with strong electron correlations.

We have performed electrical resistivity measurements on single crystal BaFe2As2 under high pressure P up to 16 GPa with a cubic anvil apparatus, and up to 3 GPa with a modified Bridgman anvil cell. The samples were obtained from the same batch, which was grown with a self-flux method. A cubic anvil apparatus provides highly hydrostatic pressure, and a modified Bridgman anvil cell, which contains liquid pressure transmitting medium, provides quasi hydrostatic pressure. For highly hydrostatic pressure, the crystal phase and magnetic transition temperature decreases robustly with P and disappears at around 10 GPa. The superconducting phase appears adjacent to magnetic phase in narrow pressure region between 11 and 14 GPa. The tiny difference of hydrostaticity between the cubic anvil apparatus and modified Bridgman anvil cell induces a drastic effect on the phase diagram of BaFe2As2. This result indicates that small uniaxial stress along c-axis strongly suppresses the structural/antiferromagnetic ordering and stabilizes superconductivity at much lower pressure.

The spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T1 in the superconducting state exhibits quite gradual temperature dependence with no coherence peak below Tc. The quasi-particle specific heat C_QP/T shows small specific heat jump which is about 30% of electronic specific heat coefficient just below Tc. In addition, it suggests the existence of low-energy quasi-particle excitation at the lowest measurement temperature T = 0.4 K \simeq Tc/10. These temperature dependence of 1/T1 and C_QP/T can be explained by multiple nodal superconducting gap scenario rather than multiple fully-gapped s_\pm-wave one within simple gap analysis.

The 31P-NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) and muSR (muon spin relaxation) measurements on the filled skutterudite system SmFe4P12 have been carried out. The temperature T dependence of the 31P-NMR spectra indicates the existence of the crystalline electric field effect splitting of the Sm3+$ (J = 5/2) multiplet into a ground state and an excited state of about 70 K. The spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T1 shows the typical behavior of the Kondo system, i.e., 1/T1 is nearly T independent above 30 K, and varies in proportion to T (the Korringa behavior, 1/T1 \propto T) between 7.5 K and 30 K. The T dependence deviated from the Korringa behavior below 7 K, which is independent of T in the applied magnetic field of 1 kOe, and suppressed strongly in higher fields. The behavior is explained as 1/T1is determined by ferromagnetic fluctuations of the uncovered Sm3+ magnetic moments by conduction electrons. The muSR measurements in zero field show the appearance of a static internal field associated with the ferromagnetic order below 1.6 K.

Though no distinct anomaly was observed below TMI in low fields, a complicated structure was observed between the Neel temperature TN and TMI (TN < TMI) above 70 kOe. The spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T1 is almost independent of temperature above TMI, and rapidly decreases below TMI. The 1/T1 in low fields decreases monotonously, whereas the strong suppression of 1/T1 occurs between TN and TMI above 70 kOe. The structure of the spectra and the suppression of 1/T1 become apparent with increasing field.

On the basis of a three-dimensional Hubbard model, the superconducting mechanism of CeIn3 under high pressure is investigated by the third-order perturbation theory with respect to the on-site Coulomb interaction U. Here we propose the d-wave pairing state induced by antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations. The estimated superconducting transition temperature is lower by one order than that in the two-dimensional system for the same value of U/W (W=bandwidth). This result is consistent with the difference between CeIn3 and CeRhIn5.

Resonant x-ray diffraction performed at the $\rm L_{II}$ and $\rm L_{III}$ absorption edges of Ru has been used to investigate the magnetic and orbital ordering in Ca$_2$RuO$_4$ single crystals. A large resonant enhancement due to electric dipole $2p\to 4d$ transitions is observed at the wave-vector characteristic of antiferromagnetic ordering. Besides the previously known antiferromagnetic phase transition at $\rm T_{N}=110$ K, an additional phase transition, between two paramagnetic phases, is observed around 260 K. Based on the polarization and azimuthal angle dependence of the diffraction signal, this transition can be attributed to orbital ordering of the Ru $t_{2g}$ electrons. The propagation vector of the orbital order is inconsistent with some theoretical predictions for the orbital state of Ca$_2$RuO$_4$.

Temperature dependence of both initial asymmetry and muon-spin depolarization rate show the appearance of a magnetically ordered state below the metal-insulator transition temperature TMI. The present study indicates that the ordering below TMI is not a non-magnetic antiferro-quadrupolar ordering but a magnetic one, which supports a scenario that a magnetic octupolar ordering occurs below TMI in SmRu4P12.

With increasing temperature toward {\it T}$_{\rm MI}$, the observed phonon modes shift to lower energies and exhibit reduced spectral weights, reflecting structural changes associated with the elongation of the RuO$_6$ octahedra. Interestingly, the phonons exhibit significant increases in linewidths and asymmetries for {\it T} $>$ {\it T}$_{\rm N}$. These results indicate that there is an increase in the effective number of electrons and the electron-phonon interaction strengths as the temperature is raised through {\it T}$_{\rm N}$, suggesting the presence of orbital fluctuations in the temperature regime {\it T}$_{\rm N}$ $<$ {\it T} $<$ {\it T}$_{\rm MI}$.

By using a combination of detailed experimental studies and simple theoretical arguments, we identify a novel mechanism characterizing the hop** transport in the Mott insulating phase of Ca$_{2-x}$Sr$_x$RuO$_4$ near the metal-insulator transition. The hop** exponent $α$ shows a systematic evolution from a value of $α=1/2$ deeper in the insulator to the conventional Mott value $α=1/3$ closer to the transition. This behavior, which we argue to be a universal feature of disordered Mott systems close to the metal-insulator transition, is shown to reflect the gradual emergence of disorder-induced localized electronic states populating the Mott-Hubbard gap.

We report the specific heat of single crystals of the spin ice compound Dy$_2$Ti$_2$O$_7$ at temperatures down to 100 mK in the so-called Kagome ice state. In our previous paper, we showed the anisotropic release of residual entropy in different magnetic field directions and reported new residual entropy associated with spin frustration in the Kagome slab for field in the [111] direction. In this paper, we confirm the first-order phase transition line in the field-temperature phase diagram and the presence of a critical point at (0.98 T, 400 mK), previously reported from the magnetization and specific-heat data. We newly found another peak in the specific heat at 1.25 T below 0.3 K. One possible explanation for the state between 1 T and 1.25 T is the coexistence of states with different spin configurations including the 2-in 2-out one (Kagome ice state), the 1-in 3-out state (ordered state) and paramagnetic one (free-spin state).

We apply magnetic fields along the four characteristic directions: [100], [110], [111] and [112]. Because of Ising anisotropy, we observe anisotropic release of the residual zero-point entropy, attributable to the difference in frustration dimensionality. In the high magnetic field along these four directions, the residual entropy is almost fully released and the activation entropy reaches Rln2. However, in the intermediate field region, the entropy in fields along the [111] direction is different from those for the other three field directions. For the [111] direction the frustration structure changes from that of three-dimensional(3D) pyrochlore to that of two-dimensional(2D) Kagome-like lattice with constraint due to the ice rule, leading to different values of zero-point entropy.

In the Mott insulating state, two electron correlation-induced peaks were observed around 1.0 and 1.9 eV, which could be understood in terms of the 3-orbital Hubbard model. The low frequency peak showed a shift toward higher frequency as temperature was lowered, which indicated that electron-phonon interactions play an important role in the orbital arrangements. From the systematic analysis, it was suggested that the antiferro-orbital and the ferro-orbital ordering states could coexist.

We investigate the effect of the vertex correction that is given by TOPT, comparing with the study with only the second-order effective interaction. In our results, a stable p-wave pairing state spreads from low to intermediate electron density. A dx2-y2-wave pairing is dominant for the high density near a half-filling. It is shown that the vertex correction plays an essential role in making the p-wave pairing state dominant.

We report magnetization and ac susceptibility of single crystals of the spin ice compound Dy2Ti2O7. Saturated moments at 1.8 K along the charasteristic axes [100] and [110] agree with the expected values for an effective ferromagnetic nearest-neighbor Ising pyrochlore with local <111> anisotropy, where each magnetic moment is constrained to obey the `ice-rule'. At high enough magnetic fields along the [111] axis, the saturated moment exhibits a beaking of the ice-rule; it agrees with the value expected for a three-in one-out spin configuration. Assuming the realistic magnetic interaction between Dy ions given by the dipolar spin ice model, we completely reproduce the results at 2 K by Monte Carlo calculations. However, down to at least 60 mK, we have not found any experimental evidence of the long-range magnetic ordering predicted by this model to occur at around 180 mK. Instead, we confirm the spin freezing of the system below 0.5 K.
