Only one of the two I$_3$ anion sites shows a significant differentiation in the electric field gradients across the first-order transition. The charge modulation only in the BEDT-TTF layers can not reproduce; instead, an anion-donor interaction accompanied by hydrogen bonding is necessary. The dominating source for the nuclear relaxation is the local libration of the I$_3$ anions, but an anomalous peak is detected just below the transition, as observed by $^{13}$C NMR.

In 2019, however, two other research groups reported opposite data (much smaller value and a vanishingly small temperature-linear term) and the discrepancy in the thermal conductivity measurement data emerges as a serious problem concerning the ground state of the quantum spin liquid. Recently, the cooling rate was proposed to be an origin of the discrepancy. We examined effects of the cooling rate on electrical resistivity, low-temperature crystal structure, and $^{13}$C-NMR measurements and could not find any significant cooling rate dependence.

A Dirac electron system in solids mimics a relativistic quantum physics that is compatible with Maxwell's equations, by which we anticipate unified electromagnetic responses. We find a large orbital diamagnetism only along the interplane direction and the nearly temperature-independent conductance of the order of e2/h for the new 2D Dirac organic conductor, a-(BETS)2I3. Distinct from conventional electrons in solids whose nonrelativistic effects bifurcate electric and magnetic responses, the observed orbital diamagnetism scales the electrical conductivity for a wide temperature range. This demonstrates that an electromagnetic duality that is valid only within the relativistic framework is revived in solids.

Increasing numbers of MRI brain scans, improvements in image resolution, and advancements in MRI acquisition technology are causing significant increases in the demand for and burden on radiologists' efforts in terms of reading and interpreting brain MRIs. Content-based image retrieval (CBIR) is an emerging technology for reducing this burden by supporting the reading of medical images. High dimensionality is a major challenge in develo** a CBIR system that is applicable for 3D brain MRIs. In this study, we propose a system called disease-oriented data concentration with metric learning (DDCML). In DDCML, we introduce deep metric learning to a 3D convolutional autoencoder (CAE). Our proposed DDCML scheme achieves a high dimensional compression rate (4096:1) while preserving the disease-related anatomical features that are important for medical image classification. The low-dimensional representation obtained by DDCML improved the clustering performance by 29.1\% compared to plain 3D-CAE in terms of discriminating Alzheimer's disease patients from healthy subjects, and successfully reproduced the relationships of the severity of disease categories that were not included in the training.

Antiferromagnetic spectra and nuclear relaxations show two distinct magnetic moments within each Pd(dmit)2 molecule, which cannot be described by single band dimer-Mott model and requires intramolecular electronic correlation. This unconventional fragmentation of S = 1/2 electron spin with strong quantum fluctuation is presumably caused by nearly degenerated intramolecular multiple orbitals, and shares a notion of quantum liquids where electronic excitations are fractionalized and S = 1/2 spin is no longer an elementary particle.

The ratio of orbital (L) and spin (S) contributions to the magnetically ordered moments of a 5d transition metal oxide, Sr2IrO4 was evaluated by non-resonant magnetic x-ray diffraction. We applied a new experimental setting to minimize the error in which we varied only the linear-polarization of incident x-ray at a fixed scattering angle. Strong polarization dependence of the intensity of magnetic diffraction was observed, from which we conclude that the ordered moments contain substantial contribution from the orbital degree of freedom with the ratio of <L>/<S> ~5.0, evidencing the pronounce effect of spin-orbit coupling. The obtained ratio is close to but slightly larger than the expected value for the ideal J_eff = 1/2 moment of a spin-orbital Mott insulator, |<J_1/2|L_z|J_1/2>|/|<J_1/2|S_z|J_1/2>| = 4, which cannot be accounted by the redistribution of orbital components within the t_2g bands associated with the elongation of the IrO6 octahedra.

The antiferromagnetic structure of Sr3Ir2O7, the bilayer analogue of a spin-orbital Mott insulator Sr2IrO4, was revealed by resonant magnetic x-ray diffraction. Contrasting intensities of the magnetic diffraction at the Ir LIII and LII edges show a Jeff=1/2 character of the magnetic moment as is argued in Sr2IrO4. The magnitude of moment, however, was found to be smaller than that of Sr2IrO4 by a factor of 5-6, implying that Sr3Ir2O7 is no longer a Mott insulator but a weak antiferromagnet. An evident change of the temperature dependence of the resistivity at TN, from almost temperature-independent resistivity to insulating, strongly suggests that the emergent weak magnetism controls the charge gap. The magnetic structure was found to be an out-of-plane collinear antiferromagnetic ordering in contrast to the inplane canted antiferromagnetism in Sr2IrO4, originating from the strong bilayer antiferromagnetic coupling.

We found two-dimensional antiferromagnetic fluctuation with a large in-plane correlation length exceeding 100 lattice spacings at even 20 K above the mangnetic ordering temperature. In marked contrast to the naive expecta- tion of strong magnetic anisotropy associated with an enhanced spin-orbit coupling, we discovered isotropic isospin correlation that is well described by the two-dimensional S = 1/2 quantum Heisen- berg model. The estimated antiferromagnetic coupling constant as large as J ~ 0.1 eV that is comparable to the small Mott gap (< 0.5 eV) points the weak and marginal Mott character of this spin-orbital entangled system.

We perform a numerical simulation of quantum turbulence produced by thermal counterflow in superfluid $^4$He by using the vortex filament model with the full Biot--Savart law. The pioneering work of Schwarz has two shortcomings: it neglects the non-local terms of the Biot--Savart integral (known as the localized induction approximation, LIA) and it employs an unphysical mixing procedure to sustain the statistically steady state of turbulence. For the first time we have succeeded in generating the statistically steady state under periodic boundary conditions without using the LIA or the mixing procedure. This state exhibits the characteristic relation $L=γ^2 v_{ns}^2$ between the line-length density $L$ and the counterflow relative velocity $v_{ns}$ and there is quantitative agreement between the coefficient $γ$ and some measured values. The parameter $γ$ and some anisotropy parameters are calculated as functions of temperature and the counterflow relative velocity. The numerical results obtained using the full Biot--Savart law are compared with those obtained using the LIA. The LIA calculation constructs a layered structure of vortices and does not proceed to a turbulent state but rather to another anisotropic vortex state; thus, the LIA is not suitable for simulations of turbulence.

This paper reports results of the computation of the drag force exerted on an oscillating object in quantum turbulence in superfluid $^4$He. The drag force is calculated on the basis of numerical simulations of quantum turbulent flow about the object. The drag force is proportional to the square of the magnitude of the oscillation velocity, which is similar to that in classical turbulence at high Reynolds number. The drag coefficient is also calculated, and its value is found to be of the same order as that observed in previous experiments. The correspondence between quantum and classical turbulences is further clarified by examining the turbulence created by oscillating objects.

Frequency shifts and nuclear relaxations of 13C NMR of the metal-insulator alternating material, (Me-3,5-DIP)[Ni(dmit)2]2, are presented. The NMR absorption lines originating from metallic and insulating layers are well resolved, which evidences the coexistence of localized spins (π_loc) and conduction π-electrons. The insulating layer is newly found to undergo antiferromagnetic long range order at about 2.5 K, suggesting emergence of S=1/2 Mott insulator. In the metallic layer, we found significant suppressions of static and dynamical susceptibilities of conduction electrons below 35 K, where antiferromagnetic correlation in the insulating layer evolves. We propose a dynamical effect through strong π-π_loc coupling between the metallic and insulating layers as an origin of the reduction of the density of states.

We report results of 77Se NMR frequency shift in the normal state of the organic charge-transfer-salt k-(BETS)2FeBr4 which shows magnetic field-induced superconductivity (FISC). From a simple mean field analysis, we determined the field and the temperature dependences of the magnetization m_{pi} of the πconduction electrons on BETS molecules. We found that the Fe spins are antiferromagnetically coupled to the pi electrons and determined the exchange field to be J = -2.3T/mu_B. The exchange field from the fully saturated Fe moments (5 mu_B) is compensated by an external field of 12T. This is close to the central field of the FISC phase, consistent with the Jaccarino-Peter local field-compensation mechanism for FISC (Phys. Rev. Lett. 9, 290 (1962)).

The ratio of two 1/T_1 for the charge accepting and donating TMTTF sites which grows from T_{CO} finally saturates in approaching T_{SP}, indicating one spin correlation function even in the charge ordered state. Below T_{SP}, however, the doubly split NMR lines from inequivalently charged molecules merge into one line, originated from the variation in charge densities. This shows that a rearrangement of the charge configuration occurs at T_{SP}.

The results of 13C NMR spectra and nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate 1/T_1 for the quasi-one-dimensional quarter-filled organic material (TMTTF)2SCN are presented. A new inhomogeneous line appears below the anion ordering temperature (T_AO), below which the intensity of the distinct line owing to the inner carbon site from the inversion center is halved. This indicates that the charge transfer (disproportionation) occurs from one inner carbon site to the other inner site exclusively within one unit cell triggered by anion ordering. The 1/T_1 for the charge-donating inner site shows activated temperature dependence below T_AO, although 1/T_1 for the outer carbon decreases much more moderately in lowering temperature as has been discussed in weakly interacting one dimensional conductors. Our observation of the local gap for the spin excitation generated by anion ordering is consistent with the simple model assuming only the electrostatic interaction between the inner carbon sites and ordered anions, which is known to be much closer to the inner sites than to the outer sites. Nevertheless, we reveal that only the electrostatic interaction between the anions and molecules is insufficient to reproduce the observed divergence of the frequency shift and the linewidth of the inhomogeneous line stemming from the charge-accepting inner site at a much lower temperature than T_AO.

Remarkable difference in the temperature dependence of $1/T_1$ for the two oxygen sites in the heavily doped $x$=12 sample revealed reduction of singlet correlations between two legs in place of growing antiferromagnetic correlations along the leg direction with increasing temperature. Such behavior is most likely caused by the dissociation of bound hole pairs.

Abstract:
We have performed copper NQR experiments in high temperature superconductors YBa_{2}Cu_{4}O_{8}, YBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7}, and La_{2-x}Sr_{x}CuO_{4} (x=0.12 and 0.15), using the stimulated echo technique. We have performed copper NQR experiments in high temperature superconductors YBa_{2}Cu_{4}O_{8}, YBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7}, and La_{2-x}Sr_{x}CuO_{4} (x=0.12 and 0.15), using the stimulated echo technique. The stimulated echo intensity is analyzed by a model that includes the spin-lattice relaxation process (T_ {1 }-process) and the fluctuating local field due to nuclear spin-spin coupling. The model gives quantitative account of the experimental results in Y-based compounds using the known values of 1/T_{1} and 1/T_{2G}, the gaussian decay rate of the spin echo intensity. The same model applied to LSCO enables us to extract the value of T_{2G}. Our results indicate that T_{1}T/T_{2G} is independent of temperature, implying that the dynamic exponent is one in La_{2-x}Sr_{x}CuO_{4}.
