Abstract:
Strong second harmonic generation (SHG) in silicon nitride has been extensively studied-among others, in terms of laser-induced SHG enhancement in Si3N4 waveguides. This enhancement has been ascribed to the all-optical poling induced by the coherent photogalvanic effect. Yet, an analogous process for Si3N4 thin films has not been reported. Our article reports on the observation of laser-induced 3-fold SHG enhancement in Si3N4 thin films. The observed enhancement has many features similar to all-optical poling, such as highly nonlinear power dependence, cumulative effect, or connection to the Si3N4-Si interface. However, identical experiments for low-oxygen silicon oxynitride thin films lead to complex behavior, including laser-induced SHG reduction. By a thorough experimental study, the observed results were ascribed to heat-induced SHG variation caused by multiphoton absorption. Such behavior indicates that the origin of optically-induced SHG enhancement in SiOxNy-Si structures can be a complex interplay of various phenomena.

It is known that any tame hyperbolic 3-manifold with infinite volume and a single end is the geometric limit of a sequence of finite volume hyperbolic knot complements. Purcell and Souto showed that if the original manifold embeds in the 3-sphere, then such knots can be taken to lie in the 3-sphere. However, their proof was nonconstructive; no examples were produced. In this paper, we give a constructive proof in the geometrically finite case. That is, given a geometrically finite, tame hyperbolic 3-manifold with one end, we build an explicit family of knots whose complements converge to it geometrically. Our knots lie in the (topological) double of the original manifold. The construction generalises the class of fully augmented links to a Kleinian groups setting.

The nature of the atomic defects on the hydrogen passivated Si (100) surface is analyzed using deep learning and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). A robust deep learning framework capable of identifying atomic species, defects, in the presence of non-resolved contaminates, step edges, and noise is developed. The automated workflow, based on the combination of several networks for image assessment, atom-finding and defect finding, is developed to perform the analysis at different levels of description and is deployed on an operational STM platform. This is further extended to unsupervised classification of the extracted defects using the mean-shift clustering algorithm, which utilizes features automatically engineered from the combined output of neural networks. This combined approach allows the identification of localized and extended defects on the topographically non-uniform surfaces or real materials. Our approach is universal in nature and can be applied to other surfaces for building comprehensive libraries of atomic defects in quantum materials.

Abstract:
$\mathcal{H}-$holomorphic curves are solutions of a specific modification of the pseudoholomorphic curve equation in symplectizations involving a harmonic $1-$form as perturbation term. In this paper we compactify the moduli space of $\mathcal{H}-$holomorphic curves with a priori bounds on the harmonic $1-$forms.

Abstract:
We prove an inequality between the $L^{\infty}$-norm of the contact Hamiltonian of a positive loop of contactomorphims and the minimal Reeb period. This implies that there are no small positive loops on hypertight or Liouville fillable contact manifolds. Non-existence of small positive loops for overtwisted 3-manifolds was proved by Casals-Presas-Sandon in [CPS16].

Non-existence of small positive loops for overtwisted 3-manifolds was proved by Casals-Presas-Sandon in [CPS16].
As corollaries of the inequality we deduce various results. E.g. we prove that certain periodic Reeb flows are the unique minimizers of the $L^\infty$-norm. Moreover, we establish $L^\infty$-type contact systolic inequalities in the presence of a positive loop.

A Geometric Proof of Removal of Boundary Singularities of Pseudo-Holomorphic Curves
Authors:

Abstract:
We prove two theorems on the removal of singularities on the boundary of a pseudo-holomorphic curve. In one theorem, we need no apriori assumption on the area of the curve. The proof uses a doubling argument with the goal of converting curves with boundary to curves without boundary. Our method is new and geometric and it does not need Sobolev spaces and PDEs.

The results presented in this Letter refer to the rapidity ranges |y|<0.9 and 2.5<y<4 and have been obtained by measuring the electron and muon pair decay channels, respectively. The integrated luminosities for the two channels are L^e_int=1.1 nb^-1 and L^mu_int=19.9 nb^-1, and the corresponding signal statistics are N_J/psi^e+e-=59 +/- 14 and N_J/psi^mu+mu-=1364 +/- 53. We present dsigma_J/psi/dy for the two rapidity regions under study and, for the forward-y range, d^2sigma_J/psi/dydp_t in the transverse momentum domain 0<p_t<8 GeV/c. The results are compared with previously published results at sqrt(s)=7 TeV and with theoretical calculations.

An extensive search for the complex molecule trans-ethyl methyl ether towards several hot core regions has been performed. Using the IRAM 30m telescope and the SEST 15m we looked at several frequencies where trans-ethyl methyl ether has strong transitions, as well as lines which are particularly sensitive to the physical conditions in which the molecule can be found. We included G34.26, NGC6334(I), Orion KL, and W51e2 which have previously been proven to have a rich chemistry of complex molecules. Our observations cannot confirm the tentative Orion KL detection made by Charnley et al. (2001) within their stated column density limits, but we confirm the existence of the trans-ethyl methyl ether towards W51e2 with a column density of 2x10^14 cm-2. The dimethyl ether/methanol ratio of 0.6 as well as the newly found ethyl methyl ether/ethanol ratio of 0.13 indicate relative high abundances of ethers toward W51e2. Furthermore, the observation of ethyl methyl ether also confirms the importance of ethanol as a grain mantle constituent. We present new upper limits of around 8x10^13 cm-2 for the column densities of the molecule toward Orion KL, G34.26, NGC6334(I) and estimate the column density towards SgrB2(N) to be of the same order. The W51e2 observations are discussed in more detail.

Having built up Linux clusters to more than 1000 nodes over the past five years, we already have practical experience confronting some of the LHC scale computing challenges: scalability, automation, hardware diversity, security, and rolling OS upgrades. This paper describes the tools and processes we have implemented, working in close collaboration with the EDG project [1], especially with the WP4 subtask, to improve the manageability of our clusters, in particular in the areas of system installation, configuration, and monitoring. In addition to the purely technical issues, providing shared interactive and batch services which can adapt to meet the diverse and changing requirements of our users is a significant challenge. We describe the developments and tuning that we have introduced on our LSF based systems to maximise both responsiveness to users and overall system utilisation. Finally, this paper will describe the problems we are facing in enlarging our heterogeneous Linux clusters, the progress we have made in dealing with the current issues and the steps we are taking to gridify the clusters

Donder's Version of Revised Countable Support
Authors:

Abstract:
Shelah introduced the revised countable support (RCS) iteration to iterate semiproperness. This was an endpoint in the search for an iteration of a weak condition, still implying that aleph1 is preserved.
Dieter Donder found a better manageable approach to this iteration, which is presented here.
