Automorphic density estimates and optimal Diophantine exponents
Abstract: The present paper is devoted to establishing an optimal approximation exponent for the action of an irreducible uniform lattice subgroup of a product group on its proper factors. Previously optimal approximation exponents for lattice actions on homogeneous spaces were established under the assumption that the restriction of the automorphic representation to the stability group is suitably tempered… ▽ More

Spectral non-concentration near the top for unimodular random graphs
Abstract: In recent work on equiangular lines, Jiang, Tidor, Yuan, Zhang, and Zhao showed that a connected bounded degree graph has sublinear second eigenvalue multiplicity. More generally they show that there cannot be too many eigenvalues near the top of the spectrum. We extend this result to infinite unimodular random graphs. As a corollary, the spectral distribution of the adjacency operator cannot have… ▽ More

Growth dichotomy for unimodular random rooted trees
Abstract: We show that the growth of a unimodular random rooted tree $(T,o)$ of degree bounded by $d$ always exists, assuming its upper growth passes the critical threshold $\sqrt{d-1}$. This complements Timar's work who showed the possible nonexistence of growth below this threshold. The proof goes as follows. By Benjamini-Lyons-Schramm, we can realize $(T,o)$ as the cluster of the root for some invariant… ▽ More

Poisson-Voronoi tessellations and fixed price in higher rank
Abstract: Let $G$ be a higher rank semisimple real Lie group or the product of at least two automorphism groups of regular trees. We prove all probability measure preserving actions of lattices in such groups have cost one, answering Gaboriau's fixed price question for this class of groups. We prove the minimal number generators of a torsion-free lattice in $G$ is sublinear in the co-volume of $Γ$, settling… ▽ More

Discrete subgroups with finite Bowen-Margulis-Sullivan measure in higher rank
Abstract: Let $G$ be a connected semisimple real algebraic group and $Γ<G$ be its Zariski dense discrete subgroup. We prove that if $Γ\backslash G$ admits any finite Bowen-Margulis-Sullivan measure, then $Γ$ is virtually a product of higher rank lattices and discrete subgroups of rank one factors of $G$. This may be viewed as a measure-theoretic analogue of classification of convex cocompact actions by Klei… ▽ More

Bottom of the Length Spectrum of Arithmetic Orbifolds
Abstract: We prove that cocompact arithmetic lattices in a simple Lie group are uniformly discrete if and only if the Salem numbers are uniformly bounded away from $1$. We also prove an analogous result for semisimple Lie groups. Finally, we shed some light on the structure of the bottom of the length spectrum of an arithmetic orbifold $Γ\backslash X$ by showing the existence of a positive constant… ▽ More

Co-spectral radius of intersections
Abstract: We study the behavior of the co-spectral radius of a subgroup $H$ of a discrete group $Γ$ under taking intersections. Our main result is that the co-spectral radius of an invariant random subgroup does not drop upon intersecting with a deterministic co-amenable subgroup. As an application, we find that the intersection of independent co-amenable invariant random subgroups is co-amenable.

Co-spectral radius for countable equivalence relations
Abstract: We define the co-spectral radius of inclusions $\mathcal{S}\leq \mathcal{R}$ of discrete, probability measure-preserving equivalence relations, as the sampling exponent of a generating random walk on the ambient relation. The co-spectral radius is analogous to the spectral radius for random walks on $G/H$ for inclusion $H\leq G$ of groups. For the proof, we develop a more general version of the 2-… ▽ More

Homotopy type and homology versus volume for arithmetic locally symmetric spaces
Abstract: We study locally symmetric spaces associated with arithmetic lattices in semisimple Lie groups. We prove the following results about their topology: the minimal number of tetrahedra needed for a triangulation is at most linear in the volume and the Betti numbers are sub-linear in the volume except possibly in middle degree. The proof of these results uses the geometry of these spaces, namely the s… ▽ More

On homology torsion growth
Abstract: We prove new vanishing results on the growth of higher torsion homologies for suitable arithmetic lattices, Artin groups and map** class groups. The growth is understood along Farber sequences, in particular, along residual chains. For principal congruence subgroups, we also obtain strong asymptotic bounds for the torsion growth.
