Counting eigenvalues below the lowest Landau level
Abstract: For the magnetic Laplacian on a bounded planar domain, imposing Neumann boundary conditions produces eigenvalues below the lowest Landau level. If the domain has two boundary components and one imposes a Neumann condition on one component and a Dirichlet condition on the other, one gets fewer such eigenvalues than when imposing Neumann boundary conditions on the two components. Ground state energy of dense gases of strongly interacting fermions
Abstract: We study the ground state energy of a gas of $N$ fermions confined to a unit box in $d$ dimensions. The particles interact through a 2-body potential with strength scaled in an $N$-dependent way as $N^{-α}v$, where $α\in \mathbb R$ and $v$ is a function of positive type satisfying a mild regularity assumption. Our focus is on the strongly interacting case $α<1-\frac2d$. We contrast our result with… ▽ More

Purely magnetic tunnelling between radial magnetic wells
Abstract: This article is devoted to the semiclassical spectral analysis of the magnetic Laplacian in two dimensions. Assuming that the magnetic field is positive and has two symmetric radial wells, we establish an accurate tunnelling formula, that is a one-term estimate of the spectral gap between the lowest two eigenvalues. This gap is exponentially small when the semiclassical parameter goes to zero, but… ▽ More

Abstract: We consider a pseudorelativistic model of atoms and molecules, where the kinetic energy of the electrons is given by $\sqrt{p^2+m^2}-m$. In this model the eigenfunctions are generally not even bounded, however, we prove that the corresponding one-electron densities are smooth away from the nuclei.

On the energy of bound states for magnetic Schrödinger operators
Abstract: We provide a leading order semiclassical asymptotics of the energy of bound states for magnetic Neumann Schrödinger operators in two dimensional (exterior) domains with smooth boundaries. The asymptotics is valid all the way up to the bottom of the essential spectrum. When the spectral parameter is varied near the value where bound states become allowed in the interior of the domain, we show tha… ▽ More

Analytic structure of many-body Coulombic wave functions
Abstract: We investigate the analytic structure of solutions of non-relativistic Schr"odinger equations describing Coulombic many-particle systems. We prove the following: Let psi(x) with x=(x_1,...,x_N) in R^{3N} denote an N-electron wavefunction of such a system with one nucleus fixed at the origin. Then in a neighbourhood of a coalescence point, for which x_1=0 and the other electron coordinates do not… ▽ More

Bulk superconductivity in Type II superconductors near the second critical field
Abstract: We consider superconductors of Type II near the transition from the 'bulk superconducting' to the 'surface superconducting' state. We prove a new $L^{\infty}$ estimate on the order parameter in the bulk, i.e. away from the boundary. This solves an open problem posed by Aftalion and Serfaty.

On the Ginzburg-Landau critical field in three dimensions
Abstract: We study the three dimensional Ginzburg-Landau model of superconductivity. Several `natural' definitions of the (third) critical field, $H_{C_3}$, governing the transition from the superconducting state to the normal state, are considered. We analyze the relation between these fields and give conditions as to when they coincide. An interesting part of the analysis is the study of the monotonicit… ▽ More
