Event Generators for High-Energy Physics Experiments
Abstract: We provide an overview of the status of Monte-Carlo event generators for high-energy particle physics. Guided by the experimental needs and requirements, we highlight areas of active development, and opportunities for future improvements. Rings and strings: a basis for understanding subleading colour and QCD coherence beyond the two-jet limit
Abstract: Guided by the colour-diagonal structure of collinear singularities, we identify a set of kinematic basis functions that are well suited to the simplification of soft gluon emission amplitudes. In particular, these basis functions, which emerge naturally in the colour flow basis, isolate the subleading colour contributions and improve the statistical convergence of the CVolver amplitude-evolution c… ▽ More

Coulomb gluons will generally destroy coherence
Abstract: Coherence violation is an interesting and counter-intuitive phenomenon in QCD. We discuss the circumstances under which violation occurs in observables sensitive to soft radiation and arrive at the conclusion that almost all such observables at hadron colliders will violate coherence to some degree. We illustrate our discussion by considering the gaps-between-jets observable, where coherence viola… ▽ More

Ordering multiple soft gluon emissions using Glauber-SCET
Abstract: In QCD, the amplitude for multiple soft gluon emissions has been shown to exhibit a form of coherence, wherein one-loop corrections are rendered IR finite by the transverse momentum of the real emissions. Using a sequence of soft-collinear effective theories (SCET) with Glauber operators, we present a compact and elegant derivation of this property. Improvements on dipole shower colour
Abstract: The dipole formalism provides a powerful framework from which parton showers can be constructed. In a recent paper, we proposed a dipole shower with improved colour accuracy and in this paper we show how it can be further improved. Building a consistent parton shower
Abstract: Modern parton showers are built using one of two models: dipole showers or angular ordered showers. Both have distinct strengths and weaknesses. Dipole showers correctly account for wide-angle, soft gluon emissions and track the leading flows in QCD colour charge but they are known to mishandle partonic recoil. Angular ordered showers keep better track of partonic recoil and correctly include larg… ▽ More

Comments on a new `full colour' parton shower
Abstract: A new parton shower algorithm has been presented with the claim of providing soft-gluon resummation at `full colour' (arXiv:2001.11492). In this paper we show that the algorithm does not succeed in this goal. We show that full colour accuracy requires the Sudakov factors to be defined at amplitude level and that the simple parton-shower unitarity argument employed in arXiv:2001.11492 is not suffic… ▽ More

Colour dipoles and rho, phi electroproduction
Abstract: We present a detailed comparison of a variety of predictions for diffractive light vector meson production with the data collected at the HERA collider. All our calculations are performed within a dipole model framework and make use of different models for the meson light-cone wavefunction. There are no free parameters in any of the scenarios we consider. Generally we find good agreement with th… ▽ More

Vector Meson Photoproduction from the BFKL Equation II: Phenomenology
Abstract: Diffractive vector meson photoproduction accompanied by proton dissociation is studied for large momentum transfer. The process is described by the non-forward BFKL equation which we use to compare to data collected at the HERA collider.

Vector Meson Photoproduction from the BFKL Equation I: Theory
Abstract: Diffractive vector meson photoproduction accompanied by proton dissociation is studied for large momentum transfer. The process is described by the non-forward BFKL equation, for which a complete analytical solution is found. The scattering amplitudes for all combinations of helicity are presented.

Two novel possibilities in Higgs phenomenology
Abstract: We discuss two novel possibilities in Higgs physics. The first is that, by adding a real Higgs triplet to the Standard Model, it is possible for the lightest Higgs boson to be as heavy as 500 GeV without any fine tuning. The second, somewhat orthogonal, possibility concerns the MSSM with explicit CP violation. This model is known to permit a light Higgs boson with mass below 50 GeV which may hav… ▽ More

Observing a Light CP-Violating Higgs Boson in Diffraction
Abstract: Light CP-violating Higgs bosons with mass lower than 70 GeV might have escaped detection in direct searches at the LEP collider. They may remain undetected in conventional search channels at the Tevatron and LHC. In this Letter we show that exclusive diffractive reactions may be able to probe for the existence of these otherwise elusive Higgs particles. As a prototype example, we calculate diffr… ▽ More

Mass bounds in a model with a Triplet Higgs
Abstract: We perform an analysis of the Renormalization Group evolution of the couplings in an extension to the Standard Model which contains a real triplet in the Higgs sector. Insisting that the model remain valid up to 1 TeV allow us to map out the region of allowed mass for the Higgs bosons. We conclude that it is possible for there to be no light Higgs bosons without any otherwise dramatic deviation… ▽ More

Selected Topics in Rapidity Gap Physics
Abstract: This talk will review selected topics in rapidity gap physics. In particular I will discuss diffractive jet production and the possibility of searching for the higgs boson using diffraction at the LHC; the dipole picture of diffraction and saturation; and those processes where a large momentum is transferred across the rapidity gap, for which there has been recent progress both experimentally an… ▽ More
