ParaNet - Using Dense Blocks for Early Inference
Abstract: DenseNets have been shown to be a competitive model among recent convolutional network architectures. These networks utilize Dense Blocks, which are groups of densely connected layers where the output of a hidden layer is fed in as the input of every other layer following it. In this paper, we aim to improve certain aspects of DenseNet, especially when it comes to practicality. We introduce ParaNe… ▽ More

Active-Sterile Neutrino Conversion: Consequences for the r-Process and Supernova Neutrino Detection
Abstract: We examine active-sterile neutrino conversion in the late time post-core-bounce supernova environment. By including the effect of feedback on the Mikheyev-Smirnov-Wolfenstein (MSW) conversion potential, we obtain a large range of neutrino mixing parameters which produce a favorable environment for the r-process. We look at the signature of this effect in the current generation of neutrino detect… ▽ More

An Active-Sterile Neutrino Transformation Solution for r-Process Nucleosynthesis
Abstract: We discuss how matter-enhanced active-sterile neutrino transformation in both neutrino and antineutrino channels could enable the production of the rapid neutron capture (r-process) nuclei in neutrino-heated supernova ejecta. In this scheme the lightest sterile neutrino would be heavier than the electron neutrino and split from it by a vacuum mass-squared difference roughly between 3 and 70 eV… ▽ More

Matter-Enhanced Neutrino Oscillations in the Quasi-Adiabatic Limit
Abstract: We introduce simple analytic expressions for the neutrino survival probability in media valid in the quasi-adiabatic limit. These expressions provide a quick but accurate alternative to numerical solution of the neutrino propagation equations for the Mikheyev-Smirnov-Wolfenstein effect. They can also be used to extract information about the density scale height from the neutrino data. As an exam… ▽ More

The MSW effect in a fluctuating matter density
Abstract: We consider the effect on matter-enhanced neutrino flavor transformation of a randomly fluctuating, delta-correlated matter density. The fluctuations will produce a distribution of neutrino survival probabilities. We find the mean and variance of the distribution for the case of solar neutrinos, and discuss the possibility of placing a limit on solar density fluctuations using neutrino data.
