But the mathematical expressions are in general very complicated, with a few exceptions, involving usually infinite sums and multiple convolutions. So, in this work are deduced some bounds for the MMINF system busy period length distribution function, meaning the second M exponential service time, which analytic expressions are simpler than the exact one. Astrophysical data, in the domains of time, involve a wide range of stellar variability phenomena, among them the magnetic activity of the order of a few hours until the signature of an extra-solar planet which can cover a scale of time of a few days until tens of years. Numerous instruments are being developed to detect Earth-sized exoplanets. Exoplanets with this dimension challenge scientific instrumentation and the field of research in the data processing. In this context, our study offers a powerful framework to explain dynamical properties as a function of timescale in light curves with the planetary signal. For that, we selected the stellar target Kepler-30 to test our methods and procedures. In this sense, we investigate the multifractal behavior of the Kepler-30 system composed of a sun-like star with a rotation period of ~16 days and three planets with masses between 2 Earth and 2.5 Jupiter masses. Furthermore, this system has an orbital period varying from 29 to 143 days and orbits almost coplanar. This system is highly interesting because starspots dynamics are strongly affected by the passing of a planet in front of the star. We used about 1600 days of high-precision photometry collected by the Kepler mission to investigate the quasi-periodic variation caused by the rotation of the star and the effect of spot evolution as a function of timescale. We applied indexes extract from multifractal analysis to model the flux rotational modulation induced by active regions. Our results that stellar flux variations in Kepler-30 star caused by rotational modulation can be replicated in detail with just four recent-known multifractal indexes. These indexes will greatly simplify spot modelling of current TESS and future PLATO data.

This paper developed a seed-mediated synthesis of $α$-Al$_2$O$_3$ by the combustion method using halloysite nanocrystals as seeds and analyzed the dosimetric characteristics of these samples, including radioluminescence (RL), thermoluminescence (TL), and optically stimulated luminescence (OSL). Both SEM images and XRD pointed to the halloysite nanotubes acting as heterogeneous nucleation seeds. RL spectra indicate the presence of Cr$^{3+}$ ions due to impurities from the precursors. However, besides acting as nucleation seeds, the halloysite nanotubes were still able to adsorb the Cr$^{3+}$ ions, as evidenced by the decreased RL emission attributed to the Cr$^{3+}$ luminescent centers. Decreased TL intensity upon increasing HNT content together with the RL data suggested that the Cr$^{3+}$ ions have strong participation in the TL emission process as a luminescent center. Surprisingly, the samples with HNT showed up to 6-fold enhanced OSL area intensity and 69-fold OSL initial intensity enhancement, revealing that, by scavenging Cr$^{3+}$, the HNT eliminated a luminescent center that competes with the OSL emission. Therefore, HNTs are promising nanomaterial to enhance the sensitivity of $α$-Al$_2$O$_3$ dosimeters with potential application in medical physics, revealing that the presence of HNT in Al$_2$O$_3$ decreased the density of competing for luminescent centers and increased OSL intensity.

Soft breaking of a symmetry requires an invariance of the dimension-4 part of the Lagrangian and non-trivial variation of the lower-dimensional part. However, in general, separation between the dim-4 and lower-dimensional Lagrangian is not invariant with respect to basis transformations of fields. Therefore, a natural question of the physical meaning of soft symmetry breaking arises. This problem is addressed here in the framework of two-Higgs-Doublet Models (2HDM). It has been shown, within these models, that in spite of the ambiguity corresponding to the separation between dim-4 and the lower-dimension Lagrangian, implications of the soft symmetry breaking could be formulated in terms of observables, i.e., they are physical and measurable. There are six global symmetries that can be imposed on the scalar sector of the generic 2HDM. Necessary and sufficient tree-level conditions for soft breaking of all of them have been formulated in terms of observables.

We present novel results for the three-gluon vertex, obtained from an extensive quenched lattice simulation in the Landau gauge. The simulation evaluates the transversely projected vertex, spanned on a special tensorial basis, whose form factors are naturally parametrized in terms of individually Bose-symmetric variables. Quite interestingly, when evaluated in these kinematics, the corresponding form factors depend almost exclusively on a single kinematic variable, formed by the sum of the squares of the three incoming four-momenta, $q$, $r$, and $p$. Thus, all configurations lying on a given plane in the coordinate system $(q^2, r^2, p^2)$ share, to a high degree of accuracy, the same form factors, a property that we denominate \emph{planar degeneracy}. We have confirmed the validity of this property through an exhaustive study of the set of configurations satisfying the condition $q^2 = r^2$, within the range $[0, 5\, \rm GeV]$. Moreover, a preliminary exploration reveals that the planar degeneracy persist in the case of more arbitrary configurations. This drastic simplification allows for a remarkably compact description of the main bulk of the data, which is particularly suitable for future numerical applications. A semi-perturbative analysis reproduces the lattice findings rather accurately, once the inclusion of a gluon mass has cured all spurious divergences.

We investigate an interacting dark energy model which allows for the kinetic term of the scalar field to couple to dark matter via a power-law interaction. The model is characterised by scaling solutions at early times, which are of high interest to alleviate the coincidence problem, followed by a period of accelerated expansion. We discuss the phenomenology of the background evolution and of the linear scalar perturbations and we identify measurable signatures of the coupling in the dark sector on the cosmic microwave background, the lensing potential auto-correlation and the matter power spectra. We also perform a parameter estimation analysis using data of cosmic microwave background temperature, polarisation and lensing, baryonic acoustic oscillations and supernovae. We find that the strength of the coupling between the dark sectors, regulated by the parameter $α$, is constrained to be of order $10^{-4}$. A model selection analysis does not reveal a statistical preference between $Λ$CDM and the Kinetic model.

A new and promising technique for observing the Universe and study the dark sector is the intensity map** of the redshifted 21cm line of neutral hydrogen (HI). The BINGO radio telescope will use the 21cm line to map the Universe in the redshift range $0.127 \le z \le 0.449$, in a tomographic approach, with the main goal of probing BAO. This work presents the forecasts of measuring the transversal BAO signal during the BINGO Phase 1 operation. We use two clustering estimators, the two-point angular correlation function (ACF) and the angular power spectrum (APS), and a template-based method to model the ACF and APS estimated from simulations of the BINGO region and extract the BAO information. The tomographic approach allows the combination of redshift bins to improve the template fitting performance. We find that each clustering estimator shows different sensitivities to specific redshift ranges, although both of them perform better at higher redshifts. In general, the APS estimator provides slightly better estimates, with smaller uncertainties and larger probability of detection of the BAO signal, achieving $\gtrsim 90$\% at higher redshifts. We investigate the contribution from instrumental noise and residual foreground signals and find that the former has the greater impact, getting more significant as the redshift increases, in particular the APS estimator. Indeed, including noise in the analysis increases the uncertainty up to a factor of $\sim 2.2$ at higher redshifts. Foreground residuals, in contrast, do not significantly affect our final uncertainties. In summary, our results show that, even including semi-realistic systematic effects, BINGO has the potential to successfully measure the BAO scale in radio frequencies. (Abridged)

Cryptographic Self-Selection is a subroutine used to select a leader for modern proof-of-stake consensus protocols, such as Algorand. In cryptographic self-selection, each round $r$ has a seed $Q_r$. In round $r$, each account owner is asked to digitally sign $Q_r$, hash their digital signature to produce a credential, and then broadcast this credential to the entire network. A publicly-known function scores each credential in a manner so that the distribution of the lowest scoring credential is identical to the distribution of stake owned by each account. The user who broadcasts the lowest-scoring credential is the leader for round $r$, and their credential becomes the seed $Q_{r+1}$. Such protocols leave open the possibility of a selfish-mining style attack: a user who owns multiple accounts that each produce low-scoring credentials in round $r$ can selectively choose which ones to broadcast in order to influence the seed for round $r+1$. Indeed, the user can pre-compute their credentials for round $r+1$ for each potential seed, and broadcast only the credential (among those with a low enough score to be the leader) that produces the most favorable seed.
We consider an adversary who wishes to maximize the expected fraction of rounds in which an account they own is the leader. We show such an adversary always benefits from deviating from the intended protocol, regardless of the fraction of the stake controlled. We characterize the optimal strategy; first by proving the existence of optimal positive recurrent strategies whenever the adversary owns last than $38\%$ of the stake. Then, we provide a Markov Decision Process formulation to compute the optimal strategy.

In general, agents are better off if they have diverse and independent sources. Sullivan et al. This paper reports on an open-source re-implementation of their algorithm in Python, optimized to be usable on much larger networks. Automatic Identification System (AIS) messages are useful for tracking vessel activity across oceans worldwide using radio links and satellite transceivers. Such data plays a significant role in tracking vessel activity and map** mobility patterns such as those found in fishing. Accordingly, this paper proposes a geometric-driven semi-supervised approach for fishing activity detection from AIS data. Through the proposed methodology we show how to explore the information included in the messages to extract features describing the geometry of the vessel route. To this end, we leverage the unsupervised nature of cluster analysis to label the trajectory geometry highlighting the changes in the vessel's moving pattern which tends to indicate fishing activity. The labels obtained by the proposed unsupervised approach are used to detect fishing activities, which we approach as a time-series classification task. In this context, we propose a solution using recurrent neural networks on AIS data streams with roughly 87% of the overall $F$-score on the whole trajectories of 50 different unseen fishing vessels. Such results are accompanied by a broad benchmark study assessing the performance of different Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) architectures. In conclusion, this work contributes by proposing a thorough process that includes data preparation, labeling, data modeling, and model validation. Therefore, we present a novel solution for mobility pattern detection that relies upon unfolding the trajectory in time and observing their inherent geometry.

Bi-isotropic media constitute a proper scenario for scrutinizing optical effects stemming from magnetoelectric parameters. Chiral magnetic current is a macroscopic effect arising from the chiral magnetic effect that enriches the phenomenology of a classical dielectric medium. This work examines optical aspects of bi-isotropic media in the presence of magnetic conductivity. The full isotropic scenario manifests circular birefringence described by a dispersive rotatory power that changes sign at a given frequency. For a bi-isotropic medium with antisymmetric magnetic conductivity, an intricate dispersive rotatory power is attained, supplied with sign reversal as well. This scenario also indicates a handedness reversion of the medium, an unusual property in dielectrics, which may work as a signature of bi-isotropic media supporting chiral magnetic current.

The early dark energy (EDE) solution to the Hubble tension comes at the cost of an increased clustering amplitude that has been argued to worsen the fit to galaxy clustering data. We explore whether freeing the total neutrino mass $M_ν$, which can suppress small-scale structure growth, improves EDE's fit to galaxy clustering. Using Planck Cosmic Microwave Background and BOSS galaxy clustering data, a Bayesian analysis shows that freeing $M_ν$ does not appreciably increase the inferred EDE fraction $f_{\rm EDE}$: we find the 95% C.L. upper limits $f_{\rm EDE}<0.092$ and $M_ν<0.15\,{\rm eV}$. Similarly, in a frequentist profile likelihood setting (where our results support previous findings that prior volume effects are important), we find that the baseline EDE model (with $M_ν=0.06\,{\rm eV}$) provides the overall best fit. For instance, compared to baseline EDE, a model with $M_ν=0.24\,{\rm eV}$ maintains the same $H_0$(km/s/Mpc)=(70.08, 70.11, respectively) whilst decreasing $S_8$=(0.837, 0.826) to the $Λ$CDM level, but worsening the fit significantly by $Δχ^2=7.5$. For the datasets used, these results are driven not by the clustering amplitude, but by background modifications to the late-time expansion rate due to massive neutrinos, which worsen the fit to measurements of the BAO scale.

We demonstrate the application of the YOLOv5 model, a general purpose convolution-based single-shot object detection model, in the task of detecting binary neutron star (BNS) coalescence events from gravitational-wave data of current generation interferometer detectors. We also present a thorough explanation of the synthetic data generation and preparation tasks based on approximant waveform models used for the model training, validation and testing steps. Using this approach, we achieve mean average precision ($\text{mAP}_{[0.50]}$) values of 0.945 for a single class validation dataset and as high as 0.978 for test datasets. Moreover, the trained model is successful in identifying the GW170817 event in the LIGO H1 detector data. The identification of this event is also possible for the LIGO L1 detector data with an additional pre-processing step, without the need of removing the large glitch in the final stages of the inspiral. The detection of the GW190425 event is less successful, which attests to performance degradation with the signal-to-noise ratio. Our study indicates that the YOLOv5 model is an interesting approach for first-stage detection alarm pipelines and, when integrated in more complex pipelines, for real-time inference of physical source parameters.

The Beam Expander Testing X-ray facility (BEaTriX) is a unique X-ray apparatus now operated at the Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica (INAF), Osservatorio Astronomico di Brera (OAB), in Merate, Italy. It has been specifically designed to measure the point spread function (PSF) and the effective area (EA) of the X-ray mirror modules (MMs) of the Advanced Telescope for High-ENergy Astrophysics (ATHENA), based on silicon pore optics (SPO) technology, for verification before integration into the mirror assembly. To this end, BEaTriX generates a broad, uniform, monochromatic, and collimated X-ray beam at 4.51 keV. [...] In BEaTriX, a micro-focus X-ray source with a titanium anode is placed in the focus of a paraboloidal mirror, which generates a parallel beam. A crystal monochromator selects the 4.51 keV line, which is expanded to the final size by a crystal asymmetrically cut with respect to the crystalline planes. [...] After characterization, the BEaTriX beam has the nominal dimensions of 170 mm x 60 mm, with a vertical divergence of 1.65 arcsec and a horizontal divergence varying between 2.7 and 3.45 arcsec, depending on the monochromator setting: either high collimation or high intensity. The flux per area unit varies from 10 to 50 photons/s/cm2 from one configuration to the other. The BEaTriX beam performance was tested using an SPO MM, whose entrance pupil was fully illuminated by the expanded beam, and its focus was directly imaged onto the camera. The first light test returned a PSF and an EA in full agreement with expectations. As of today, the 4.51 keV beamline of BEaTriX is operational and can characterize modular X-ray optics, measuring their PSF and EA with a typical exposure of 30 minutes. [...] We expect BEaTriX to be a crucial facility for the functional test of modular X-ray optics, such as the SPO MMs for ATHENA.

We present a class of spatiotemporal models for Poisson areal data suitable for the analysis of emerging infectious diseases. These models assume Poisson observations related through a link equation to a latent random field process. This latent random field process evolves through time with proper Gaussian Markov random field convolutions. Our approach naturally accommodates flexible structures such as distinct but interacting temporal trends for each region and across-time contamination among neighboring regions. We develop a Bayesian analysis approach with a simulation-based procedure: specifically, we construct a Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithm based on the generalized extended Kalman filter to obtain samples from an approximate posterior distribution. Finally, for the comparison of Poisson spatiotemporal models, we develop a simulation-based conditional Bayes factor. We illustrate the utility and flexibility of our Poisson spatiotemporal framework with an application to the number of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) cases during the period 1982-2007 in Rio de Janeiro.

Full-Waveform Inversion (FWI) is a high-resolution technique used in geophysics to evaluate the physical parameters and construct subsurface models in a noisy and limited data scenario. The ill-posed nature of the FWI turns this a challenging problem since more than one model can match the observations. In a probabilistic way, solving the FWI problem demands efficient sampling techniques to infer information on parameters and to estimate the uncertainties in high-dimensional model spaces. We investigate the feasibility of applying the Hamiltonian Monte Carlo (HMC) method in the acoustic FWI by a reflection setup containing different noise level data. We propose a new strategy for tuning the mass matrix based on the acquisition geometry of the seismic survey. Our methodology significantly improves the ability of the HMC method in reconstructing reasonable seismic models with affordable computational efforts.

We consider a revenue-maximizing seller with a single item for sale to multiple buyers with i.i.d. valuations. Akbarpour and Li (2020) show that the only optimal, credible, strategyproof auction is the ascending price auction with reserves which has unbounded communication complexity. Recent work of Ferreira and Weinberg (2020) circumvents their impossibility result assuming the existence of cryptographically secure commitment schemes, and designs a two-round credible, strategyproof, optimal auction. However, their auction is only credible when buyers' valuations are MHR or $α$-strongly regular: they show their auction might not be credible even when there is a single buyer drawn from a non-MHR distribution. In this work, under the same cryptographic assumptions, we identify a new single-item auction that is credible, strategyproof, revenue optimal, and terminates in constant rounds in expectation for all distributions with finite monopoly price.

A forbidden structure theorem is one that charcaterizes a smaller class $A$ inside a larger class $B$ as all the elements in $B$ that avoid some substructures. For example, a lattice is distributive (smaller class $A$) if and only if it is a lattice (larger class $B$) and avoids the pentagon and the diamond.
In this paper we provide a characterization of all pairs of lazy groupoid varieties $A\le B$ by forbidden substructure theorems. Some of the results are straightforward, but some other are very involved. All of these results and proofs were found using a computational tool that proves theorems of this type (for many different classes of relational algebras) and that we make available to every mathematician.

Wave-particle duality is certainly one of the most curious concepts of contemporary physics, which ascribes mutually exclusive behaviors to quantum systems that cannot be observed simultaneously. In the context of two-path interferometers, these two behaviors are usually described in terms of the visibility of interference fringes and the path distinguishability. Here, we use quantum information-theoretic tools to derive quantifiers of these two properties, which account for the combined influence of path probability and polarization, and demonstrate that they satisfy a complementarity relation. We further show that the derived quantities can work as probes in the study of open quantum dynamics by revealing interesting facets of environment actions, such as: decoherence, depolarization and scattering.

Requirement Engineering (RE) is a Software Engineering (SE) process of defining, documenting, and maintaining the requirements from a problem. It is one of the most complex processes of SE because it addresses the relation between customer and developer. RE learning may be abstract and complex for most students because many of them cannot visualize the subject directly applied. Through the advancement of technology, Virtual Reality (VR) hardware is becoming increasingly more accessible, and it is not rare to use it in education. Little research and systematic studies explain the integration between SE and VR, and even less between RE and VR. Hence, this systematic review proposes to select and present studies that relate the use of VR applications to teach SE and RE concepts. We selected nine studies to include in this review. Despite the lack of articles addressing the topic, the results from this study showed that the use of VR technologies for learning SE is still very seminal. The projects based essentially on visualization. There are lack of tasks to build modeling artifacts, and also interaction with stakeholders and other software engineers. Learning tasks and the monitoring of students' progress by teachers also need to be considered.

The Maxwell equations and the constitutive relations describe the classical propagation of electromagnetic waves in continuous matter. Here, we investigate the effects stemming from extended constitutive relations on the propagation of waves in bi-isotropic and bi-anisotropic media using a classical general approach based on the evaluation of dispersion relations and refractive indices. For the bi-anisotropic media, we specify two classes of magnetoelectric parameters represented by symmetric and antisymmetric tensors. The three cases examined have provided real and distinct refractive indices for two propagating modes, which implies birefringence. The propagating modes were also carried out in all cases. The anisotropy or birefringence effect, given by the rotatory power or phase difference, was evaluated in terms of the magnetoelectric parameters of the theory in each case. The propagation orthogonal to the vectors used to parametrize the symmetric and antisymmetric magnetoelectric tensors is described by distinct modes, representing a route to identify the kind of bi-anisotropic medium examined. The group velocity and Poynting vector were also evaluated for all the cases examined to discuss the energy propagation in these anisotropic media.

To recover the 21 cm hydrogen line, it is essential to separate the cosmological signal from the much stronger foreground contributions at radio frequencies. The BINGO radio telescope is designed to measure the 21 cm line and detect BAOs using the intensity map** technique. This work analyses the performance of the GNILC method, combined with a power spectrum debiasing procedure. The method was applied to a simulated BINGO mission, building upon previous work from the collaboration. It compares two different synchrotron emission models and different instrumental configurations, in addition to the combination with ancillary data to optimize both the foreground removal and recovery of the 21 cm signal across the full BINGO frequency band, as well as to determine an optimal number of frequency bands for the signal recovery. We have produced foreground emissions maps using the Planck Sky Model, the cosmological Hi emission maps are generated using the FLASK package and thermal noise maps are created according to the instrumental setup. We apply the GNILC method to the simulated sky maps to separate the Hi plus thermal noise contribution and, through a debiasing procedure, recover an estimate of the noiseless 21 cm power spectrum. We found a near optimal reconstruction of the Hi signal using a 80 bins configuration, which resulted in a power spectrum reconstruction average error over all frequencies of 3%. Furthermore, our tests showed that GNILC is robust against different synchrotron emission models. Finally, adding an extra channel with CBASS foregrounds information, we reduced the estimation error of the 21 cm signal. The optimisation of our previous work, producing a configuration with an optimal number of channels for binning the data, impacts greatly the decisions regarding BINGO hardware configuration before commissioning.

An outstanding problem in heavy-ion collisions is the inability for models to accurately describe ultra-central experimental flow data, despite that being precisely the regime where a hydrodynamic description should be most applicable. We reassess the status of this puzzle by computing the flow in ultra-central collisions obtained from multiple recent Bayesian models that were tuned to various observables in different collision systems at typical centralities. While central data can now be described with better accuracy than in previous calculations, tension with experimental observation remains and worsens as one goes to ultra-central collisions. Tuning the model parameters cannot remove this tension without destroying the fit at other centralities. As such, new elements are likely needed in the standard modeling of heavy-ion collisions.

We investigate the transport properties of a kinetic theory model that is tuned to describe the thermodynamic properties of QCD at zero chemical potential using a new formulation of the relaxation time approximation. In contrast to previous approaches, the latter is constructed to preserve the fundamental properties of the collision term of the Boltzmann equation for any energy-dependence of the relaxation time. A novel choice of matching conditions is implemented to ensure that the background mean-field depends only on the temperature even when the system is out of equilibrium. We provide a consistent analysis of how the transport coefficients of relativistic Navier-Stokes theory vary with the energy dependence of the relaxation time. We also show that the entropy production of this theory is consistent with the second law of thermodynamics and verify that it is independent of the matching conditions employed. We used this fact to calculate the matching independent combination of transport coefficients.

The generic case of pensions fund that it is not sufficiently auto financed and it is thoroughly maintained with an external financing effort is considered in this chapter. To represent the unrestricted reserves value process of this kind of funds, a time homogeneous diffusion stochastic process with finite expected time to ruin is proposed. Then it is projected a financial tool that regenerates the diffusion at some level with positive value every time the diffusion hits a barrier placed at the origin. So, the financing effort can be modeled as a renewal-reward process if the regeneration level is preserved constant. The perpetual maintenance cost expected values and the finite time maintenance cost evaluations are studied. An application of this approach when the unrestricted reserves value process behaves as a generalized Brownian motion process is presented.

In this work, we study the thermal quantum coherence and fidelity in a semiconductor double quantum dot. The device consists of a single electron in a double quantum dot with Rashba spin-orbit coupling in the presence of an external magnetic field. In our scenario, the thermal entanglement of the single electron is driven by the charge and spin qubits, the latter controlled by Rashba coupling. Analytical expressions are obtained for thermal concurrence and correlated coherence using the density matrix formalism. The main goal of this work is to provide a good understanding of the effects of temperature and several parameters in quantum coherence. In addition, our findings show that we can use the Rashba coupling to tune in the thermal entanglement, quantum coherence, as well as, the thermal fidelity behavior of the system. Moreover, we focus on the role played by thermal entanglement and correlated coherence responsible for quantum correlations. We observe that the correlated coherence is more robust than the thermal entanglement in all cases, so quantum algorithms based only on correlated coherence may be stronger than those based on entanglement.

The do** of the anatase TiO2 structure with lanthanides elements potentially can turns the TiO2 optical absorption into the visible range increasing drastically its photocatalytic efficiency. Here we show that the processing of TiO2 nanoparticles in oxygen atmosphere and the La do** stabilizes the anatase phase. The La incorporation takes place mainly in the surface of the nanoparticles leading to small nanoparticles as compared to the undoped TiO2. In spite of the effective La do**, the decrease of the energy bandgap is compensated by a quantum confinement effect related to the decrease in the nanoparticle size. However, the location of the La3+ ions on the surface of the nanoparticles induces a local concentration of oxygen vacancies that can increase the quantum efficiency of the system leading to higher photocatalytic activity.

The oceans are a source of an impressive mixture of complex data that could be used to uncover relationships yet to be discovered. Such data comes from the oceans and their surface, such as Automatic Identification System (AIS) messages used for tracking vessels' trajectories. AIS messages are transmitted over radio or satellite at ideally periodic time intervals but vary irregularly over time. As such, this paper aims to model the AIS message transmission behavior through neural networks for forecasting upcoming AIS messages' content from multiple vessels, particularly in a simultaneous approach despite messages' temporal irregularities as outliers. We present a set of experiments comprising multiple algorithms for forecasting tasks with horizon sizes of varying lengths. Deep learning models (e.g., neural networks) revealed themselves to adequately preserve vessels' spatial awareness regardless of temporal irregularity. We show how convolutional layers, feed-forward networks, and recurrent neural networks can improve such tasks by working together. Experimenting with short, medium, and large-sized sequences of messages, our model achieved 36/37/38% of the Relative Percentage Difference - the lower, the better, whereas we observed 92/45/96% on the Elman's RNN, 51/52/40% on the GRU, and 129/98/61% on the LSTM. These results support our model as a driver for improving the prediction of vessel routes when analyzing multiple vessels of diverging types simultaneously under temporally noise data.

In this paper, we present several possible anomaly-free implementations of the Branco-Grimus-Lavoura (BGL) model with two Higgs doublets and one singlet scalar. The model also includes three generations of massive neutrinos that get their mass via a type-I seesaw mechanism. A particular anomaly-free realization, which we dub $ν$BGL-1 scenario, is subjected to an extensive phenomenological analysis, from the perspective of flavour physics and collider phenomenology.

The development of new fire-resistant steels represents a challenge in materials science and engineering of utmost importance. Alloying elements such as Nb and Mo are generally used to improve the strength at both room- and high-temperatures due to, for example, the formation of precipitates and harder microconstituents. In this study we show alternatively that the addition of small amounts of boron in Nb-microalloyed steels may play a crucial role in maintaining the mechanical properties at high temperatures. The 66\,\% yield-strength criteria for fire resistance is achieved at $\approx 574$\,°C for a boron steel, whereas without boron this value reaches $\approx 460$\,°C, a remarkable boron-induced mechanical strengthening enhancement. DFT calculations show that boron additions can lower the vacancy formation energy when compared to pure ferrite and, for Nb-B steels, there is a further 24\,\% reduction, suggesting that the boron-niobium combination acts as an effective pinning-based strengthening agent.

For decades the number of scientific publications has been rapidly increasing, effectively out-dating knowledge at a tremendous rate. Only few scientific milestones remain relevant and continuously attract citations. Here we quantify how long scientific work remains being utilized, how long it takes before today's work is forgotten, and how milestone papers differ from those forgotten. To answer these questions, we study the complete temporal citation network of all American Physical Society journals. We quantify the probability of attracting citations for individual publications based on age and the number of citations they have received in the past. We capture both aspects, the forgetting and the tendency to cite already popular works, in a microscopic generative model for the dynamics of scientific citation networks. We find that the probability of citing a specific paper declines with age as a power law with an exponent of $α\sim -1.4$. Whenever a paper in its early years can be characterized by a scaling exponent above a critical value, $α_c$, the paper is likely to become "ever-lasting". We validate the model with out-of-sample predictions, with an accuracy of up to 90% (AUC $\sim 0.9$). The model also allows us to estimate an expected citation landscape of the future, predicting that 95% of papers cited in 2050 have yet to be published. The exponential growth of articles, combined with a power-law type of forgetting and papers receiving fewer and fewer citations on average, suggests a worrying tendency toward information overload and raises concerns about scientific publishing's long-term sustainability.

Since a significant time ago, although time runs very fast, nanotechnology transformed from one of the most promising scientific hopes in uncountable human domains into a marvelous certainty. Innumerable scientific studies in several areas of knowledge were made since nanoscale emergence, carrying their contribution to the nanoscience development, leading to a great development of technical and scientific knowledge but also raising numerous problems in the ethical field. In this work, nanotechnology is discussed both in terms of ethics and in terms of borders that nanotechnology applications must satisfy and concluding notes are presented, highlighting the results of the analysis. Significant considerations are made on the close connection between ethics and the nanotechnology and the effects over the society and values.

Abstract:
A conjugation $C$ on a separable complex Hilbert space $\mathcal H$ is an antilinear operator that is isometric and involutive. In this notes, we characterize all conjugations on the Hardy-Hilbert space $H^{2}$ over the disk. In addition, we characterize complex symmetric Toeplitz operators with a special type of these conjugations.

The general behavior of the nuclear equation of state (EOS), relevant for the description of neutron stars (NS), is studied within a Bayesian approach applied to a set of models based on a density dependent relativistic mean field description of nuclear matter. The EOS is subjected to a minimal number of constraints based on nuclear saturation properties and the low density pure neutron matter EOS obtained from a precise next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N$^{3}$LO) calculation in chiral effective field theory ($χ$EFT). The posterior distributions of the model parameters obtained under these minimal constraints are employed to construct the distributions of various nuclear matter properties and NS properties such as radii, tidal deformabilites, central energy densities and speeds of sound etc. We found that 90% confidence interval (CI) for allowed NS mass - radius relationship and tidal deformabilites are compatible with GW170817 and recent NICER observations, without invoking the exotic degrees of freedom. A central speed-of-sound of the order of $\sqrt{2/3}$ $c$ is obtained. The maximum neutron star mass allowed by the model is 2.5 $M_\odot$.

A stellar occultation by Neptune's main satellite, Triton, was observed on 5 October 2017 from Europe, North Africa, and the USA. We derived 90 light curves from this event, 42 of which yielded a central flash detection.
We aimed at constraining Triton's atmospheric structure and the seasonal variations of its atmospheric pressure since the Voyager 2 epoch (1989). We also derived the shape of the lower atmosphere from central flash analysis. We used Abel inversions and direct ray-tracing code to provide the density, pressure, and temperature profiles in the altitude range $\sim$8 km to $\sim$190 km, corresponding to pressure levels from 9 μbar down to a few nanobars.
Results. (i) A pressure of 1.18$\pm$0.03 μbar is found at a reference radius of 1400 km (47 km altitude). (ii) A new analysis of the Voyager 2 radio science occultation shows that this is consistent with an extrapolation of pressure down to the surface pressure obtained in 1989. (iii) A survey of occultations obtained between 1989 and 2017 suggests that an enhancement in surface pressure as reported during the 1990s might be real, but debatable, due to very few high S/N light curves and data accessible for reanalysis. The volatile transport model analysed supports a moderate increase in surface pressure, with a maximum value around 2005-2015 no higher than 23 μbar. The pressures observed in 1995-1997 and 2017 appear mutually inconsistent with the volatile transport model presented here. (iv) The central flash structure does not show evidence of an atmospheric distortion. We find an upper limit of 0.0011 for the apparent oblateness of the atmosphere near the 8 km altitude.

Surrogate neural network-based models have been lately trained and used in a variety of science and engineering applications where the number of evaluations of a target function is limited by execution time. In cell phone camera systems, various errors, such as interferences at the lens-barrel and lens-lens interfaces and axial, radial, and tilt misalignments, accumulate and alter profile of the lenses in a stochastic manner which ultimately changes optical focusing properties. Nonlinear finite element analysis of the stochastic mechanical behavior of lenses due to the interference fits is used on high-performance computing (HPC) to generate sufficient training and testing data for subsequent deep learning. Once properly trained and validated, the surrogate neural network model enabled accurate and almost instant evaluations of millions of function evaluations providing the final lens profiles. This computational model, enhanced by artificial intelligence, enabled us to efficiently perform Monte-Carlo analysis for sensitivity and uncertainty quantification of the final lens profile to various interferences. It can be further coupled with an optical analysis to perform ray tracing and analyze the focal properties of the lens module. Moreover, it can provide a valuable tool for optimizing tolerance design and intelligent components matching for many similar press-fit assembly processes.

The three-gluon vertex is a fundamental ingredient of the intricate QCD dynamics, being inextricably connected to key nonperturbative phenomena, such as the emergence of a mass scale in the gauge sector of the theory. In this presentation, we review the main theoretical properties of the three-gluon vertex in the Landau gauge, obtained from the fruitful synergy between functional methods and lattice simulations. We pay particular attention to the manifestation and origin of the infrared suppression of its main form factors and the associated zero crossing. In addition, we discuss certain characteristic phenomenological applications that require this special vertex as input.
