On commutative left-nilalgebras of index 4

Abstract:
We first present a solution to a conjecture of I. Correa, A. Labra and I.R. Hentzel in the positive. We prove that if $A$ is a commutative nonassociative algebra over a field of characteristic $\ne 2,3$, satisfying the identity $x(x(xx))=0$, then $L_{a^{t_1}}L_{a^{t_2}}\cdots L_{a^{t_s}} \equiv 0$ if $ t_1+t_2+\cdots + t_s \geq 10$, where $a\in A$.

Abstract:
Achieving the Ag(001)-supported synthesis of heptacene from two related reactants reveals the effect of the presence of Br atoms on the reaction process. The properties of reactant, intermediates and end-product are further characterized by scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy.

Antisymetric matrices and Lotka-Volterra algebras
Authors:

Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to study the structure of Lotka-Volterra algebras, the set of their idempotent elements and their group of automorphisms. These algebras are defined through antisymmetric matrices and they emerge in connection with biological problems and Lotka-Volterra systems for the interactions of neighboring individuals.

We show that the magnetic ordering of coupled atomic dimers on a superconductor is revealed by their intra-gap spectral features. Chromium atoms on the superconductor $β$-Bi$_2$Pd surface display Yu-Shiba-Rusinov bound states, detected as pairs of intra-gap excitations in the tunneling spectra. We formed Cr dimers by atomic manipulation and found that their intra-gap features appear either shifted or split with respect to single atoms. The spectral variations reveal that the magnetic coupling of the dimer changes between ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic depending on its disposition on the surface, in good agreement with density functional theory simulations. These results prove that superconducting intra-gap state spectroscopy is an accurate tool to detect the magnetic ordering of atomic scale structures.

The electronic transport properties of a point-contact system formed by a single Co atom adsorbed on Cu (100) and contacted by a copper tip is evaluated in the presence of intra-atomic Coulomb interactions and spin-orbit coupling. The calculations are performed using equilibrium Green's functions evaluated within density functional theory completed with a Hubbard $U$ term and spin-orbit interaction, as implemented in the Gollum package. We show that the contribution to the transmission between electrodes of spin-flip components is negative and scaling as $λ^2/Γ^2$ where $λ$ is the SOC and $Γ$ the Co atom-electrode coupling. Hence, due to this unfavorable ratio, SOC effects in transport in this system are small. However, we show that the spin-flip transmission component can increase by two orders of magnitude depending on the value of the Hubbard $U$ term. These effects are particularly important in the contact regime because of the prevalence of $d$-electron transport, while in the tunneling regime, transport is controlled by the $sp$-electron transmission and results are less dependent on the values of $U$ and SOC. Using our electronic structure and the elastic transmission calculations, we discuss the effect of $U$ and SOC on the well-known Kondo effect of this system.

A gravitational-wave (GW) transient was identified in data recorded by the Advanced Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) detectors on 2015 September 14. The event, initially designated G184098 and later given the name GW150914, is described in detail elsewhere. By prior arrangement, preliminary estimates of the time, significance, and sky location of the event were shared with 63 teams of observers covering radio, optical, near-infrared, X-ray, and gamma-ray wavelengths with ground- and space-based facilities. In this Letter we describe the low-latency analysis of the GW data and present the sky localization of the first observed compact binary merger. We summarize the follow-up observations reported by 25 teams via private Gamma-ray Coordinates Network circulars, giving an overview of the participating facilities, the GW sky localization coverage, the timeline and depth of the observations. As this event turned out to be a binary black hole merger, there is little expectation of a detectable electromagnetic (EM) signature. Nevertheless, this first broadband campaign to search for a counterpart of an Advanced LIGO source represents a milestone and highlights the broad capabilities of the transient astronomy community and the observing strategies that have been developed to pursue neutron star binary merger events. Detailed investigations of the EM data and results of the EM follow-up campaign are being disseminated in papers by the individual teams.

Diagnostic techniques for stellar magnetic fields based upon spectropolarimetry. We propose and explore a new technique based upon the linear polarization emitted in Hanle-sensitive lines in disk-integrated stars where a dipolar magnetic field breaks the rotational symmetry of the resonance scattering polarization. A star with a simple dipolar field and a 1-0 spectral line are used to compute polarization amplitudes and angles.Predicted amplitudes are low but within reach of present instruments. A new application of the Hanle effect is proposed and analyzed, a tool that allows measuring of some of the weakest stellar magnetic fields.
