Irrational components of the Hilbert scheme of points
Abstract: We construct irrational irreducible components of the Hilbert scheme of points of affine n-dimensional space, for n at least 12. THz spin-wave excitations in the transverse conical phase of BiFeO$_3$
Abstract: Although BiFeO$_3$ is one of the most studied multiferroic materials, recent magnetization and neutron scattering studies have revealed a new magnetic phase in this compound - the transverse conical phase. Higher resonance schemes and Koszul modules of simplicial complexes
Abstract: Each connected graded, graded-commutative algebra $A$ of finite type over a field $\Bbbk$ of characteristic zero defines a complex of finitely generated, graded modules over a symmetric algebra, whose homology graded modules are called the (higher) Koszul modules of $A$. In this note, we investigate the geometry of the support loci of these modules, called the resonance schemes of the algebra. Whe… ▽ More

A novel method of experimental determination of grain stresses and critical resolved shear stresses for slip and twin systems in a magnesium alloy
Abstract: A novel original method of determination of stresses and critical resolved shear stresses (CRSSs) using neutron diffraction was proposed. Difference varieties and the Green-Lazarsfeld Secant Conjecture

We establish the Green-Lazarsfeld Secant Conjecture for curves of genus g in all the divisorial case, that is, when the line bundles that fail to be (p+1)-very ample form a divisor in the Jacobian of the curve.

Empirical verification of a new generalisation of Goldbach's conjecture up to $10^{12}$ (or $10^{13}$) for all coefficients $\leq 40$
Abstract: A new generalisation of Goldbach's conjecture (GGC) - also generalising that of Lemoine - is tested, introduced by the first author. It states that for every pair of positive integers $m_1, m_2$, every sufficiently large integer $n$ satisfying certain simple criteria can be expressed as $n=m_1p+m_2q$ for some primes $p$ and $q$. The generic Green-Lazarsfeld secant conjecture
Abstract: Generalizing the well-known Green Conjecture on syzygies of canonical curves, Green and Lazarsfeld formulated in 1986 the Secant Conjecture predicting that a line bundle L of sufficiently high degree on a curve has a non-linear p-syzygy if and only if L fails to be (p+1)-very ample. Via lattice theory for special K3 surfaces, Voisin's solution of the classical Green Conjecture and calculations on… ▽ More

The universal abelian variety over A_5
Abstract: We establish a structure result for the universal abelian variety over the moduli space A_5, in terms of discriminant curves of conic bundles over a del Pezzo surface. In particular, this gives a very simple unirational parametrization of the boundary divisor of the moduli space A_6 of principally polarized abelian varieties of dimension 6. Using this we derive a lower bound on the slope of all ef… ▽ More

Application of High Intensity THz Pulses for Gas High Harmonic Generation
Abstract: The main effects of an intense THz pulse on gas high harmonic generation are studied via trajectory analysis on the single atom level. Spectral and temporal modifications to the generated radiation are highlighted.

Brill-Noether with ramification at unassigned points
Abstract: We discuss in this short note how basic facts about divisors on moduli spaces of pointed curves give a solution to the Brill-Noether problem of nonexistence of linear series with prescribed ramification at unassigned points.

Minimal resolutions, Chow forms and Ulrich bundles on K3 surfaces
Abstract: The Minimal Resolution Conjecture (MRC) for points on a projective variety X predicts that the Betti numbers of general sets of points in X are as small as the geometry (Hilbert function) of X allows. To a large extent, we settle this conjecture for a curve C with general moduli. We show that, independently of the genus, MRC holds for a general linear system of degree d and dimension r on C if and… ▽ More

Effective divisors on moduli spaces of curves and abelian varieties
Abstract: This paper is an expository survey of results about the effective divisors on moduli spaces, with a focus on what is known about the effective cones of moduli spaces of stable curves and of principally polarized abelian varieties. This version incorporates clarifications and suggestions of Ana-Maria Castravet and the referee, both of whom we thank. To appear in the proceedings of the conference, "… ▽ More

Syzygies of torsion bundles and the geometry of the level l modular variety over M_g
Abstract: We formulate, and in some cases prove, three statements concerning the purity or, more generally the naturality of the resolution of various rings one can attach to a generic curve of genus g and a torsion point of order l in its Jacobian. These statements can be viewed an analogues of Green's Conjecture and we verify them computationally for bounded genus. We then compute the cohomology class of… ▽ More
