Upper limit on the cosmic-ray photon fraction at EeV energies from the Pierre Auger Observatory
Abstract: From direct observations of the longitudinal development of ultra-high energy air showers performed with the Pierre Auger Observatory, upper limits of 3.8%, 2.4%, 3.5% and 11.7% (at 95% c.l.) are obtained on the fraction of cosmic-ray photons above 2, 3, 5 and 10 EeV (1 EeV = 10^18 eV) respectively. Final Results from the KTeV Experiment on the Decay KL -> pi0 gamma gamma
Abstract: We report on a new measurement of the branching ratio B(KL->pi0 gamma gamma)using the KTeV detector. We reconstruct 1982 events with an estimated background of 608, that results in B(KL -> pi0 gamma gamma) = (1.29 +/- 0.03(stat) +/- 0.05(syst)) x 10**-6. We also measure the parameter, aV, which characterizes the strength of vector meson exchange terms in this decay. We find aV = -0.31 +/- 0.05(s… ▽ More

Search for the Rare Decay K_{L}\toπ^{0}π^{0}γ
Abstract: The KTeV E799 experiment has conducted a search for the rare decay $K_{L}\toπ^{0}π^{0}γ$ via the topology $K_{L}\toπ^{0}π^{0}_Dγ$ (where $π^0_D\toγe^+e^-$). Due to Bose statistics of the $π^0$ pair and the real nature of the photon, the $K_{L}\toπ^{0}π^{0}γ$ decay is restricted to proceed at lowest order by the CP conserving direct emission (DE) of an E2 electric quadrupole photon. Measurement of the Decay KL -> pi0 e+ e- gamma
Abstract: We report on a new measurement of the branching ratio B(KL -> pi0 e+ e- gamma) using the KTeV detector. This analysis uses the full KTeV data set collected from 1997 to 2000. We reconstruct 139 events over a background of 14, which results in B(KL -> pi0 e+ e- gamma) = (1.62 +/- 0.14 (stat) +/- 0.09 (syst)) x 10^{-8}. This result supersedes the earlier KTeV measurement of this branching ratio.

Observation of the Decay Xi^0 --> Sigma^+ mu^- nu(bar)
Abstract: The Xi^0 muon semi-leptonic decay has been observed for the first time with nine identified events using the KTeV beam line and detector at Fermilab. The decay is normalized to the Xi^0 beta decay mode and yields a value for the ratio of decay rates of $(1.8^{+0.7}_{-0.5}(stat.)\pm0.2(syst.))\times 10^{-2}$. This is in agreement with the SU(3) flavor symmetric quark model.

Entanglement versus chaos in disordered spin chains
Abstract: We use a Heisenberg spin-1/2 chain to investigate how chaos and localization may affect the entanglement of pairs of qubits. To measure how much entangled a pair is, we compute its concurrence, which is then analyzed in the delocalized/localized and in the chaotic/non-chaotic regimes. Our results indicate that chaos reduces entanglement and that entanglement decreases in the region of strong loc… ▽ More

Lower bounds on the entanglement of formation for general Gaussian states
Abstract: We derive two lower bounds on entanglement of formation for arbitrary mixed Gaussian states by two distinct methods. To achieve the first one we use a local measurement procedure derived by Giedke et al [Quantum Inf. and Comp. vol.1, 79 (2001)] that symmetrizes a general Gaussian state and the fact that entanglement cannot increase under local operations and classical communications. Local Detection of Entanglement
Abstract: We construct an explicit model where it can be established if a two mode pure Gaussian system is entangled or not by acting only on one of the parts that constitute the system. Measuring the dispersion in momentum and the time evolution of the dispersion in position of one particle we can tell if entanglement is present as well as the degree of entanglement of the system.

The Effect of Non Gaussian Errors on the Determination of Steeply Falling Spectra
Abstract: The determination of a steeply falling energy spectrum from rare events with non-gaussian measurement errors is a delicate matter. The final shape of the spectrum may be severely distorted as a consequence of non-gaussian tails in the energy resolution of the experiment. We illustrate this effect with the recent experimental efforts to determine the ultra-high energy extreme of the cosmic ray sp… ▽ More

Quantum open systems and turbulence

Burgers Turbulence and the Continuous Spontaneous Localization Model
Abstract: There is a striking convergence between Burgers turbulence and the continuous spontaneous localization [CSL] model of quantum mechanics. Enhanced Diffusion and the Continuous Spontaneous Localization Model
Abstract: We find an analogy between turbulence and the dynamics of the continuous spontaneous localization model (CSL) of the wave function. The use of a standard white noise in the localization process gives Richardson's t^3 law for the turbulent diffusion, while the introduction of an affine noise in the CSL allows us to obtain the intermittency corrections to this law.

Stochastic Motion of an Open Bosonic String
Abstract: We show that the classical stochastic motion of an open bosonic string leads to the same results as the standard first quantization of this system. A QCD Sum Rule Approach to the $s\to dγ$ Contribution to the $Ω^-\to Ξ^-γ$ Radiative Decay
