Abstract:
We address the discrete inverse conductance problem for well-connected spider networks; that is, to recover the conductance function on a well-connected spider network from the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map. It is well-known that this inverse problem is exponentially ill-posed, requiring the implementation of a regularization strategy for numerical solutions. Our focus lies in exploring whether prior k…

Our focus lies in exploring whether prior knowledge of the conductance being piecewise constant within a partition of the edge set comprising few subsets enables stable conductance recovery. To achieve this, we propose formulating the problem as a polynomial optimization one, incorporating a regularization term that accounts for the piecewise constant hypothesis. We show several experimental examples in which the stable conductance recovery under the aforementioned hypothesis is feasible.

Abstract:
In the setting of real square matrices, it is known that, if $A$ is a singular irreducible $M$-matrix, then the only nonnegative vector that belongs to the range space of $A$ is the zero vector. In this paper, we prove an analogue of this result for the Lyapunov and the Stein operators.

We present here the necessary and sufficient conditions for the invertibility of tridiagonal matrices, commonly named Jacobi matrices, and explicitly compute their inverse. The techniques we use are related with the solution of Sturm-Liouville boundary value problems associated to second order linear difference equations. These boundary value problems can be expressed throughout a discrete Schrödinger operator and their solutions can be computed using recent advances in the study of linear difference equations. The conditions that ensure the uniqueness solution of the boundary value problem lead us to the invertibility conditions for the matrix, whereas the solutions of the boundary value problems provides the entries of the inverse matrix.

Floquet Theory for Second Order Linear Homogeneous Difference Equations
Authors:

Abstract:
In this paper we provide a version of the Floquet's theorem to be applied to any second order difference equations with quasi-periodic coefficients. To do this we extend to second order linear difference equations with quasi-periodic coefficients, the known equivalence between the Chebyshev equations and the second order linear difference equations with constant coefficients. So, any second order…

So, any second order linear difference equations with quasi-periodic coefficients is essentially equivalent to a Chebyshev equation, whose parameter only depends on the values of the quasi-periodic coefficients and can be determined by a non-linear recurrence. Moreover, we solve this recurrence and obtaining a closed expression for this parameter. As a by-product we also obtain a Floquet's type result; that is, the necessary and sufficient condition for the equation has quasi-periodic solutions.

Abstract:
Any elliptic operator defines an automorphism on the orthogonal subspace to the eigenfunctions associated with the lowest eigenvalue, whose inverse is the orthogonal Green operator. In this study, we show that elliptic Schrödinger operators on networks that have been obtained by adding a new vertex to a given network, can be seen as perturbations of the Schrödinger operators on the initial network…

In this study, we show that elliptic Schrödinger operators on networks that have been obtained by adding a new vertex to a given network, can be seen as perturbations of the Schrödinger operators on the initial network. Therefore, the Green function on the new network can be computed in terms of the Green function of the original network.

We present here necessary and sufficient conditions for the invertibility of circulant and symmetric matrices that depend on three parameters and moreover, we explicitly compute the inverse. The techniques we use are related with the solution of boundary value problems associated to second order linear difffference equations. Consequently, we reduce the computational cost of the problem. In particular, we recover the inverses of some well known circulant matrices whose coeffifficients are arithmetic or geometric sequences, Horadam numbers among others. We also characterize when a general symmetric circulant and tridiagonal matrix is invertible and in this case, we compute explicitly its inverse.
