Adiabatic quantum computing is implemented on specialized hardware using the heuristics of the quantum annealing algorithm. This setup requires the addressed problems to be formatted as discrete quadratic functions without constraints and the variables to take binary values only. The problem of finding Nash equilibrium in two-player, non-cooperative games is a two-fold quadratic optimization problem with constraints. This problem was formatted as a single, constrained quadratic optimization in 1964 by Mangasarian and Stone. Here, we show that adding penalty terms to the quadratic function formulation of Nash equilibrium gives a quadratic unconstrained binary optimization (QUBO) formulation of this problem that can be executed on quantum annealers. Three examples are discussed to highlight the success of the formulation, and an overall, time-to-solution (hardware + software processing) speed up of seven to ten times is reported on quantum annealers developed by D-Wave System.

Current quantum computing devices have different strengths and weaknesses depending on their architectures. This means that flexible approaches to circuit design are necessary. We address this task by introducing a novel space-efficient quantum optimization algorithm for the graph coloring problem. Our circuits are deeper than the ones of the standard approach. However, the number of required qubits is exponentially reduced in the number of colors. We present extensive numerical simulations demonstrating the performance of our approach. Furthermore, to explore currently available alternatives, we perform a study of random graph coloring on a quantum annealer to test the limiting factors of that approach, too.

Due to the pivotal role of UV photodiodes in many technological applications in tandem with the high efficiency achieved by machine learning techniques in regression and classification problems, different artificial intelligence techniques are adopted model the performance of organic/inorganic heterojunction UV photodiode. Herein, the performance of a fabricated Au/NTCDA/p-Si/Al photodiode was explained in details and showed an excellent responsivity, and detectivity for UV light of intensities ranges from 20 to 80 ${mW/cm^2}$. The fabricated photodiodes exhibited a linear current-irradiance relationship under illumination up to 65 ${mW/cm^2}$. It also exhibits good response times of ${t_{rise} = 408}$ ms and ${t_{fall} = 490}$ ms. Furthermore, we have not only fitted the characteristic I-V curve but also evaluated three classical algorithms; k-nearest neighbour, artificial neural network, and genetic programming besides using a quantum neural network to predict the behaviour of the fabricated device. The models have achieved outstanding results and managed to capture the trend of the target values. The Quantum Neural Network has been used for the first time to model the photodiode. The models can be used instead of repeating the fabrication process. This means a reduction in cost and manufacturing time.
