High-precision analysis of the critical point in heavy-quark QCD at $N_t=6$
Abstract: Binder-cumulant analysis of the critical point in the heavy-quark region of QCD is performed by Monte-Carlo simulations with the hop**-parameter expansion at $N_t=6$. We extend our previous analysis at $N_t=4$ to finer lattices and perform high-precision analyses on large spatial volumes up to the aspect ratio $LT=N_s/N_t=18$. Critical point in heavy-quark region of QCD on fine lattices
Abstract: We perform a finite-size scaling analysis of the critical point in the heavy-quark region of QCD at nonzero temperature. Our previous analysis on the Binder cumulant at $N_t=4$ is extended to finer lattices with $N_t=6$ and $8$. The aspect ratio is also extended up to $15$ to suppress the non-singular contribution. High-precision analysis of the Binder cumulant is realized by an efficient Monte-Ca… ▽ More

Chemical potential dependence of the endpoint of first-order phase transition in heavy-quark region of finite-temperature lattice QCD

Positivity of extensions of vector bundles
Abstract: In this paper, we study when positivity conditions of vector bundles are preserved by extension. We prove that an extension of a big (resp. pseudo-effective) line bundle by an ample (resp. a nef) vector bundle is big (resp. pseudo-effective). We also show that an extension of an ample line bundle by a big line bundle is not necessarily pseudo-effective. In particular, this implies that an almost n… ▽ More

Gradient flow, confinement, and magnetic monopole in U(1) lattice gauge theory
Abstract: In the gradient flow method of lattice gauge theory, coarse graining is performed so as to reduce the action, and as the coarse graining progresses, the field strength becomes very small. However, the confinement property that particles interact strongly is not lost by the gradient flow. It is seemingly mysterious, and something stable against coarse graining is expected to be behind the nature of… ▽ More

Abstract: We study temperature dependence of the topological susceptibility with the $N_{f}=2+1$ flavors Wilson fermion. We have two major interests in this paper. One is a comparison of gluonic and fermionic definitions of the topological susceptibility. Two definitions are related by the chiral Ward-Takahashi identity but their coincidence is highly non-trivial for the Wilson fermion. By applying the grad… ▽ More

Equation of state in (2+1)-flavor QCD with gradient flow
Abstract: The energy-momentum tensor and equation of state are studied in finite-temperature (2+1)-flavor QCD with improved Wilson quarks using the method proposed by Makino and Suzuki based on the gradient flow. We find that the results of the gradient flow are consistent with the previous results using the $T$-integration method at $T \mathrel{\rlap{\raise 0.511ex \hbox{$<$}}{\lower 0.511ex \hbox{$\sim… ▽ More

Exploring Nf=2+1 QCD thermodynamics from the gradient flow
Abstract: The energy-momentum tensor plays an important role in QCD thermodynamics. Its expectation value contains information of the pressure and the energy density as its diagonal part. Further properties like viscosity and specific heat can be extracted from its correlation function. Recently a new method based on the gradient flow was introduced to calculate the energy-momentum tensor on the lattice, an… ▽ More

Latent heat at the first order phase transition point of SU(3) gauge theory
Abstract: We calculate the energy gap (latent heat) and pressure gap between the hot and cold phases of the SU(3) gauge theory at the first order deconfining phase transition point. We perform simulations around the phase transition point with the lattice size in the temporal direction Nt=6, 8 and 12 and extrapolate the results to the continuum limit. We also investigate the spatial volume dependence. The e… ▽ More

Positivity of anti-canonical divisors and $F$-purity of fibers
Abstract: In this paper, we prove that given a flat generically smooth morphism between smooth projective varieties with $F$-pure closed fibers, if the source space is Fano, weak Fano or a variety with the nef anti-canonical divisor, then so is the target space. We also show that relative anti-canonical divisors of generically smooth surjective nonconstant morphisms are not nef and big in arbitrary characte… ▽ More

Iitaka's $C_{n,m}$ conjecture for 3-folds in positive characteristic
Abstract: In this paper, we prove that for a fibration $f:X\to Z$ from a smooth projective 3-fold to a smooth projective curve, over an algebraically closed field $k$ with $\mathrm{char} k =p >5$, if the geometric generic fiber $X_{\overlineη}$ is smooth, then subadditivity of Kodaira dimensions holds, i.e. $$κ(X)\geκ(X_{\overlineη})+κ(Z).$$

Many flavor approach to study the nature of chiral phase transition of two-flavor QCD
Abstract: We perform lattice numerical simulations to study the phase transition of QCD at finite temperature to clarify the nature of the transition of massless two flavor QCD. We investigate QCD with two light and Nf heavy quarks instead of two-flavor QCD, and focus on the light quark mass dependence of the critical heavy mass, below which the transition is of first order. The heavy quarks are incorporate… ▽ More

Critical point search from an extended parameter space of lattice QCD at finite temperature and density
Abstract: Aiming to understand the phase structure of lattice QCD at nonzero temperature and density, we study the phase transitions of QCD in an extended parameter space, where the number of flavor and quark masses are considered as parameters. Performing simulations of 2 flavor QCD and using the reweighting method, we investigate (2+Nf) flavor QCD at finite density, where two light flavors and Nf massive… ▽ More

Many flavor approach to study the critical point in finite density QCD
Abstract: We discuss the QCD critical point at finite density through the study of many flavor QCD, in which two light flavors and Nf massive flavors exist. Performing simulations of QCD with two flavors of improved Wilson fermions, we calculate probability distribution functions of many flavor QCD at finite temperature and density. The dynamical effects of massive flavors and the chemical potential are add… ▽ More

Exploring the nature of chiral phase transition in two-flavor QCD using extra heavy quarks
Abstract: Chiral phase transition of two flavor QCD at finite quark masses is known to be crossover except near the chiral limit, but it can turn to a first order transition when adding many extra flavors. This property is used to explore the nature of the phase transition of massless two flavor QCD using lattice numerical simulations. The extra heavy flavors being incorporated in the form of the hop** pa… ▽ More

Analytic continuation of finite density QCD with heavy quarks in the strong coupling region
Abstract: Complex nature of finite density QCD with heavy quarks in the strong coupling region is studied. For this purpose, we consider the effective potential as a function of Polyakov line, and study thermodynamic singularities and associated Stokes boundaries in the complex chemical potential plane. We also perform an explicit analytic continuation of the first order transition and crossover lines in th… ▽ More

Multipoint reweighting method and its applications to lattice QCD
Abstract: The reweighting method is widely used in numerical studies of QCD, in particular, for the cases in which the conventional Monte-Carlo method cannot be applied directly, e.g., finite density QCD. However, the application range of the reweighing method is restricted due to several problems. One of the most severe problems here is the overlap problem. To solve it, we examine a multipoint reweighting… ▽ More
