A counterexample to a conjecture on Cartan determinants of monoid algebras

Abstract: We show that there are finite monoids $M$ such that the Cartan matrix of the monoid algebra $\mathbb C M$ is non-singular, whilst the Cartan matrix of $kM$ is singular for some field $k$ of positive characteristic, disproving a recent conjecture of Steinberg. Units in Blocks of Defect 1 and the Zassenhaus Conjecture

Abstract: Building on previous work by Caicedo and the second author, we develop a method that decides the existence of units of finite order in blocks of $\mathbb{Z}_p G$ of defect 1. This allows us to prove that if $p$ is a prime and $G$ is a finite group whose Sylow $p$-subgroup has order $p$, then any unit $u\in \mathbb{Z} G$ of order $p$ is conjugate to an element of $\pm G$. Bijections of silting complexes and derived Picard groups

Abstract: We introduce a method that produces a bijection between the posets ${\rm silt-}{A}$ and ${\rm silt-}{B}$ formed by the isomorphism classes of basic silting complexes over finite-dimensional $k$-algebras $A$ and $B$, by lifting $A$ and $B$ to two $k[[X]]$-orders which are isomorphic as rings. Abstract: We construct blocks of finite groups with arbitrarily large Morita Frobenius numbers, an invariant which determines the size of the minimal field of definition of the associated basic algebra. This answers a question of Benson and Kessar. This also improves upon a result of the second author where arbitrarily large $\mathcal{O}$-Morita Frobenius numbers are constructed. On the geometry of lattices and finiteness of Picard groups

On solvability of the first Hochschild cohomology of a finite-dimensional algebra

Donovan's conjecture, blocks with abelian defect groups and discrete valuation rings

A Counterexample to the First Zassenhaus Conjecture

Zassenhaus conjectured that for any unit $u$ of finite order in the integral group ring of a finite group $G$ there exists a unit $a$ in the rational group algebra of $G$ such that $a^{-1}\cdot u \cdot a=\pm g$ for some $g\in G$. We disprove this conjecture by first proving general results that help identify counterexamples and then providing an infinite number of examples where these resu… ▽ More Hans J. On Tate duality and a projective scalar property for symmetric algebras

A reduction theorem for $τ$-rigid modules

Abstract: We prove a theorem which gives a bijection between the support $τ$-tilting modules over a given finite-dimensional algebra $A$ and the support $τ$-tilting modules over $A/I$, where $I$ is the ideal generated by the intersection of the center of $A$ and the radical of $A$. This bijection is both explicit and well-behaved. We give various corollaries of this, with a particular focus on blocks of gro… ▽ More We prove a theorem which gives a bijection between the support $τ$-tilting modules over a given finite-dimensional algebra $A$ and the support $τ$-tilting modules over $A/I$, where $I$ is the ideal generated by the intersection of the center of $A$ and the radical of $A$. This bijection is both explicit and well-behaved. We give various corollaries of this, with a particular focus on blocks of group rings of finite groups. In particular we show that there are $τ$-tilting finite wild blocks with more than one simple module. We then go on to classify all support $τ$-tilting modules for all algebras of dihedral, semidihedral and quaternion type, as defined by Erdmann, which include all tame blocks of group rings. Note that since these algebras are symmetric, this is the same as classifying all basic two-term tilting complexes, and it turns out that a tame block has at most $32$ different basic two-term tilting complexes. We do this by using the aforementioned reduction theorem, which reduces the problem to ten different algebras only depending on the ground field $k$, all of which happen to be string algebras. To deal with these ten algebras we give a combinatorial classification of all $τ$-rigid modules over (not necessarily symmetric) string algebras. △ Less

Blocks with a generalized quaternion defect group and three simple modules over a 2-adic ring

Describing units of integral group rings up to commensurability

Abstract: We restrict the type of $2 \times 2$-matrices which can occur as simple components in the Wedderburn decomposition of the rational group algebra of a finite group. This results in a description up to commensurability of the group of units of the integral group ring $\mathbb Z G$ for all finite groups $G$ that do not have a non-commutative Frobenius complement as a quotient. We restrict the type of $2 \times 2$-matrices which can occur as simple components in the Wedderburn decomposition of the rational group algebra of a finite group. On the IYB-property in some solvable groups

It is known that every IYB-group is solvable, but it is still an open question whether the converse holds. In this paper we show that if $N$ is a nilpotent group of class two and $H$ is an IYB-group of order coprime to that of $N$, then $N\rtimes H$ is IYB. The class of groups that can be obtained in that way (and hence are IYB) contains in particular Hertweck's famous counterexample to the isomorphism conjecture as well as all of its subgroups. The p-adic group ring of SL_2(p^f)

The branching fractions of these decays are measured relative to that of the $\mathrm{B}^0\to J/ψρ^0$ decay: $$\frac{Br(B^0\to J/ψω)}{Br(B^0\to J/ψρ^0)} = 0.89 \pm0.19(stat)^{+0.07}_{-0.13}(syst)$$ $$\frac{Br(B^0_s\to J/ψη)}{Br(B^0\to J/ψρ^0)} = 14.0 \pm 1.2(stat)^{+1.1}_{-1.5}(syst)^{+1.1}_{-1.0}(\frac{f_d}{f_s}),$$ $$\frac{Br(B^0_s\to J/ψη^{\prime})}{Br(B^0\to J/ψρ^0)} = 12.7\pm1.1(stat)^{+0.5}_{-1.3}(syst)^{+1.0}_{-0.9}(\frac{f_d}{f_s}),$$ where the last uncertainty is due to the knowledge of $f_d/f_s$, the ratio of b-quark hadronization factors that accounts for the different production rate of $B^0$ and $B^0_s$ mesons. Abstract: A precise determination of the effective $B_s^0 \rightarrow K^+ K^-$ lifetime can be used to constrain contributions from physics beyond the Standard Model in the $B_s^0$ meson system. Conventional approaches select $B$ meson decay products that are significantly displaced from the $B$ meson production vertex. Abstract: Measurements of inclusive $W$ and $Z$ boson production cross-sections in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV using final states containing muons are presented. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 37 pb$^{-1}$ collected with the LHCb detector. The $W$ and $Z$ bosons are reconstructed from muons with a transverse momentum above 20 GeV$/c$ and pseudorapidity between 2.0 and 4.5… ▽ More Measurements of inclusive $W$ and $Z$ boson production cross-sections in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV using final states containing muons are presented. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 37 pb$^{-1}$ collected with the LHCb detector. The $W$ and $Z$ bosons are reconstructed from muons with a transverse momentum above 20 GeV$/c$ and pseudorapidity between 2.0 and 4.5, and, in the case of the $Z$ cross-section, a dimuon invariant mass between 60 and 120 GeV$/c^2$. The cross-sections are measured to be {$831\pm9\pm27\pm 29$ pb} for $W^+$, {$656\pm8\pm19\pm 23$ pb} for $W^-$ and {$76.7\pm1.7\pm3.3\pm2.7$ pb} for $Z$, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic and the third is due to the luminosity. Differential cross-sections, $W$ and $Z$ cross-section ratios and the lepton charge asymmetry are also measured in the same kinematic region. The ratios are determined to be $σ_{W^+\rightarrowμ^+ν} / σ_{W^-\rightarrowμ^-\barν}= ${$1.27\pm0.02\pm0.01$}, and $σ_{W^+\rightarrowμ^+ν} + σ_{W^-\rightarrowμ^-\barν})/σ_{Z\rightarrowμμ}= ${$19.4\pm0.5\pm0.9$}. The results are in general agreement with theoretical predictions, performed at next-to-next-to-leading order in QCD using recently calculated parton distribution functions. △ Less

Results are presented both for promptly produced psi(2S) mesons and for those originating from b-hadron decays. In the kinematic range pT(psi(2S)) <= 16 GeV/c and 2 < y(psi(2S)) <= 4.5 we measure 1.44 +- 0.01 +- 0.12+0.2-0.4 mub for prompt psi(2S) production and 0.25 +- 0.01 +- 0.02 mub for psi(2S) from b-hadron decays, where the last uncertainty on the prompt cross-section is due to the unknown psi(2S) polarization. Recent QCD calculations are found to be in good agreement with our measurements. Combining the present result with the LHCb J/psi measurements we determine the inclusive branching fraction B(b -> psi(2S) X) = (2.73 +- 0.06 +- 0.16 +- 0.24) x 10^(-3), where the last uncertainty is due to the B(b -> J/psi X), B(J/psi -> mu+ mu-) and B(psi(2S) -> e+ e-) branching fraction uncertainties. This paper reports a measurement of its branching fraction relative to the Cabibbo-favoured mode $\B^{0}_{s} \to D^{-}_{s} π^{+}$ based on a data sample of 0.37 fb$^{-1}$ proton-proton collisions… ▽ More The decay mode $\B^{0}_{s} \to D^{\mp}_{s} K^{\pm} $ allows for one of the theoretically cleanest measurements of the CKM angle $γ$ through the study of time-dependent $\ensuremath{CP}\xspace$ violation. This paper reports a measurement of its branching fraction relative to the Cabibbo-favoured mode $\B^{0}_{s} \to D^{-}_{s} π^{+}$ based on a data sample of 0.37 fb$^{-1}$ proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 7$ TeV collected in 2011 with the LHCb detector. In addition, the ratio of $\ensuremath{\mathrm{B}}\xspace$ meson production fractions $\ensuremath{f_s/f_d}$, determined from semileptonic decays, together with the known branching fraction of the control channel $B^{0} \to D^{-} π^{+}$, is used to perform an absolute measurement of the branching fractions: $B (\B^0_s \to D^-_s π^+) \;= (2.95 \pm 0.05 \pm 0.17^{\,+\,0.18}_{\,-\,0.22}) \times 10^{-3}$, $B (\B^0_s \to D^\mp_s K^\pm) = (1.90 \pm 0.12 \pm 0.13^{\,+\,0.12}_{\,-\,0.14}) \times 10^{-4}\,$, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second the experimental systematic uncertainty, and the third the uncertainty due to $f_s/f_d$. △ Less

First observation of the decay Bc+ to J/psi pi+pi-pi+

Abstract: The decay Bc+ --> J/psi pi+pi-pi+ is observed for the first time, using 0.8 fb-1 of pp collisions at sqrt{s}=7 TeV collected by the LHCb experiment. The ratio of branching fractions BR(Bc+ --> J/psi pi+pi-pi+)/BR(B_c+ --> J/psi pi+) is measured to be 2.41+-0.30+-0.33, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The result is in agreement with theoretical predictions. The decay Bc+ --> J/psi pi+pi-pi+ is observed for the first time, using 0.8 fb-1 of pp collisions at sqrt{s}=7 TeV collected by the LHCb experiment. Abstract: An analysis of B+ to DK+ and B+ to Dpi+ decays is presented where the D meson is reconstructed in the two-body final states: K+pi-, K+K-, pi+pi- and pi+K-. Using 1.0 fb-1 of LHCb data, measurements of several observables are made including the first observation of the suppressed mode B+ to DK+, D to pi+K-. The differential production cross-sections times dimuon branching fractions are measured as a function of the Upsilon transverse momentum pT and rapidity y, over the range pT < 15 GeV/c and 2.0 < y < 4.5. The cross-sections times branching fractions, integrated over these kinematic ranges, are measured to be sigma(pp -> Upsilon(1S) X) x B(Upsilon(1S)->mu+ mu-) = 2.29 {\pm} 0.01 {\pm} 0.10 -0.37 +0.19 nb, sigma(pp -> Upsilon(2S) X) x B(Upsilon(2S)->mu+ mu-) = 0.562 {\pm} 0.007 {\pm} 0.023 -0.092 +0.048 nb, sigma(pp -> Upsilon(3S) X) x B(Upsilon(3S)->mu+ mu-) = 0.283 {\pm} 0.005 {\pm} 0.012 -0.048 +0.025 nb, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third is due to the unknown polarisation of the three Upsilon states. △ Less

Determination of the sign of the decay width difference in the B_s system

Abstract: The interference between the K+K- S-wave and P-wave amplitudes in B_s -> J/psi K+K- decays with the K+K- pairs in the region around the phi(1020) resonance is used to determine the variation of the difference of the strong phase between these amplitudes as a function of K+K- invariant mass.
