Federated Learning (FL) is a distributed Machine Learning (ML) technique that can benefit from cloud environments while preserving data privacy. We propose Multi-FedLS, a framework that manages multi-cloud resources, reducing execution time and financial costs of Cross-Silo Federated Learning applications by using preemptible VMs, cheaper than on-demand ones but that can be revoked at any time. Our framework encloses four modules: Pre-Scheduling, Initial Map**, Fault Tolerance, and Dynamic Scheduler. This paper extends our previous work \cite{brum2022sbac} by formally describing the Multi-FedLS resource manager framework and its modules. Experiments were conducted with three Cross-Silo FL applications on CloudLab and a proof-of-concept confirms that Multi-FedLS can be executed on a multi-cloud composed by AWS and GCP, two commercial cloud providers. Results show that the problem of executing Cross-Silo FL applications in multi-cloud environments with preemptible VMs can be efficiently resolved using a mathematical formulation, fault tolerance techniques, and a simple heuristic to choose a new VM in case of revocation.

Scattering amplitudes in planar $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills theory exhibit singularities which reflect various aspects of the cluster algebras associated to the Grassmannians ${\rm Gr}(4,n)$ and their tropical counterparts. Here we investigate the potential origins of such structures and examine the extent to which they can be recovered from the Gröbner structure of the underlying Plücker ideals, focussing on the Grassmannians corresponding to finite cluster algebras.
Starting from the Plücker ideal, we describe how the polynomial cluster variables are encoded in non-prime initial ideals associated to certain maximal cones of the positive tropical fan. Following [1] we show that extending the Plücker ideal by such variables leads to a Gröbner fan with a single maximal Gröbner cone spanned by the positive tropical rays. The associated initial ideal encodes the compatibility relations among the full set of cluster variables. Thus we find that the Gröbner structure naturally encodes both the symbol alphabet and the cluster adjacency relations exhibited by scattering amplitudes without invoking the cluster algebra at all.
As a potential application of these ideas we then examine the kinematic ideal associated to non-dual conformal massless scattering written in terms of spinor helicity variables. For five-particle scattering we find that the ideal can be identified with the Plücker ideal for ${\rm Gr}(3,6)$ and the corresponding tropical fan contains a number of non-prime ideals which encode all additional letters of the two-loop pentagon function alphabet present in various calculations of massless five-point finite remainders.

We study string corrections to one-loop amplitudes of single-particle operators ${\cal O}_p$ in $AdS_5 \times S^5$. The tree-level correlators in supergravity enjoy an accidental 10d conformal symmetry. Consequently, one observes a partial degeneracy in the spectrum of anomalous dimensions of double-trace operators and at the same time equality of many different correlators for different external charges $p_{i=1,2,3,4}$. The one-loop contribution is expected to lift such bonus properties, and its precise form can be predicted from tree-level data and consistency with the operator product expansion. Here we present a closed-form Mellin space formula for $\langle {\cal O}_{p_1}{\cal O}_{p_2}{\cal O}_{p_3} {\cal O}_{p_4}\rangle$ at order $(α')^3$, valid for arbitrary external charges $p_{i}$. Our formula makes explicit the lifting of the bonus degeneracy among different correlators through a feature we refer to as `sphere splitting'. While tree-level Mellin amplitudes come with a single crossing symmetric kernel, which defines the pole structure of the $AdS_5\times S^5$ amplitude, our one-loop amplitude naturally splits the $S^5$ part into two separate contributions. The amplitude also exhibits a remarkable consistency with the corresponding flat space IIB amplitude through the large $p$ limit.

We describe a construction of the two-loop amplitude of four graviton supermultiplets in AdS$_5\times$S$^5$. We start from an ansatz for a preamplitude from which we generate the full amplitude under the action of a specific Casimir operator. The ansatz captures a recent ansatz of Huang and Yuan and we confirm their result through similar constraints. The form of the result suggests that all ambiguities are captured by the preamplitude which determines the result up to tree-level ambiguities only. We identify a class of four-dimensional `zigzag' integrals which are perfectly adapted to describing the leading logarithmic discontinuity to all orders. We also observe that a bonus crossing symmetry of the preamplitude follows from the transformation properties of the Casimir operator. Combined with the zigzag integrals this allows us to construct a crossing symmetric function with the correct leading logarithmic discontinuities in all channels.
From the two-loop result we extract an explicit expression for the two-loop correction to the anomalous dimensions of twist-four operators of generic spin which includes dependence on (alternating) nested harmonic sums up to weight three. We also revisit the prescription of the bulk-point limit of AdS amplitudes and show how it recovers the full flat-space amplitude, not just its discontinuity. With this extended notion of the bulk-point limit we reproduce the scale-dependent logarithmic threshold terms of type IIB string theory in flat-space.

The genus zero contribution to the four-point correlator $\langle {\cal O}_{p_1}{\cal O}_{p_2}{\cal O}_{p_3}{\cal O}_{p_4}\rangle$ of half-BPS single-particle operators ${\cal O}_p$ in $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills at strong coupling computes the Virasoro-Shapiro amplitude of closed superstrings on $AdS_5\times S^5$. Combining Mellin space techniques, the large $p$ limit, and data about the spectrum of two-particle operators at tree level in supergravity, we design a bootstrap algorithm which heavily constrains its $α'$ expansion. We use crossing symmetry, polynomiality in the Mellin variables and the large $p$ limit to stratify the Virasoro-Shapiro amplitude away from the ten-dimensional flat space limit. Then we analyse the spectrum of exchanged two-particle operators at fixed order in the $α'$ expansion. We impose that the ten-dimensional spin of the spectrum visible at that order is bounded above in the same way as in the flat space amplitude. This constraint determines the Virasoro-Shapiro amplitude in $AdS_5\times S^5$ up to a small number of ambiguities at each order and we compute it explicitly for $(α')^{5,6,7,8,9}$. As the order of $α'$ grows, the ten dimensional spin grows, and the set of visible two-particle operators opens up. Operators illuminated for the first time receive a string correction to their anomalous dimensions. This correction is uniquely determined and lifts the residual degeneracy of tree level supergravity due to ten-dimensional conformal symmetry. We encode the lifting of the residual degeneracy in a characteristic polynomial. This object carries information about all orders in $α'$.It is analytic in the quantum numbers, symmetric under an $AdS_5 \leftrightarrow S^5$ exchange, and it enjoys intriguing properties, which we explain and detail in various cases.

Leading Cloud providers offer several types of Virtual Machines (VMs) in diverse contract models, with different guarantees in terms of availability and reliability. Among them, the most popular contract models are the on-demand and the spot models. In the former, on-demand VMs are allocated for a fixed cost per time unit, and their availability is ensured during the whole execution. On the other hand, in the spot market, VMs are offered with a huge discount when compared to the on-demand VMs, but their availability fluctuates according to the cloud's current demand that can terminate or hibernate a spot VM at any time. Furthermore, in order to cope with workload variations, cloud providers have also introduced the concept of burstable VMs which are able to burst up their respective baseline CPU performance during a limited period of time with an up to 20% discount when compared to an equivalent non-burstable on-demand VMs. In the current work, we present the Burst Hibernation-Aware Dynamic Scheduler (Burst-HADS), a framework that schedules and executes tasks of Bag-of-Tasks applications with deadline constraints by exploiting spot and on-demand burstable VMs, aiming at minimizing both the monetary cost and the execution time. Based on ILS metaheuristics, Burst-HADS defines an initial scheduling map of tasks to VMs which can then be dynamically altered by migrating tasks of a hibernated spot VM or by performing work-stealing when VMs become idle. Performance results on Amazon EC2 cloud with different applications show that, when compared to a solution that uses only regular on-demand instances, Burst-HADS reduces the monetary cost of the execution and meet the application deadline even in scenarios with high spot hibernation rates. It also reduces the total execution time when compared to a solution that uses only spot and non-burstable on-demand instances.

We consider a set of half-BPS operators in $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills theory which are appropriate for describing single-particle states of superstring theory on AdS${}_5 \times S^5$. These single-particle operators are defined to have vanishing two-point functions with all multi-trace operators and therefore correspond to admixtures of single- and multi-traces. We find explicit formulae for all single-particle operators and for their two-point function normalisation. We show that single-particle $U(N)$ operators belong to the $SU(N)$ subspace, thus for length greater than one they are simply the $SU(N)$ single-particle operators. Then, we point out that at large $N$, as the length of the operator increases, the single-particle operator naturally interpolates between the single-trace and the $S^3$ giant graviton. At finite $N$, the multi-particle basis, obtained by taking products of the single-particle operators, gives a new basis for all half-BPS states, and this new basis naturally cuts off when the length of any of the single-particle operators exceeds the number of colours. From the two-point function orthogonality we prove a multipoint orthogonality theorem which implies vanishing of all near-extremal correlators. We then compute all maximally and next-to-maximally extremal free correlators, and we discuss features of the correlators when the extremality is lowered. Finally, we describe a half-BPS projection of the operator product expansion on the multi-particle basis which provides an alternative construction of four- and higher-point functions in the free theory.

While this correlator has been considered in Mellin space before, we derive the corresponding position space results, gaining new insights into the analytic structure of AdS loop-amplitudes. Most notably, the presence of a transcendental weight three function involving new singularities is required, which has not appeared in the context of AdS amplitudes before. We thereby confirm the structure of string corrected one-loop Mellin amplitudes, and also provide new explicit results at orders in $α'$ not considered before.

Our expression is arrived at from comparing explicit perturbative results with general expectations from the integrable structure of a closely related collinear limit. A crucial ingredient of the analysis is an all-order extension for the central emission vertex that we recently computed at next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. As an application, we use our all-order formula to prove that all amplitudes in this theory in multi-Regge kinematics are single-valued multiple polylogarithms of uniform transcendental weight.

By demanding the correct behaviour in the flat space limit, we find that the leading $(α')^3$ correction to the Mellin amplitude is fixed for arbitrary charges of the external operators. By considering the mixing of double-trace operators we can find the $(α')^3$ corrections to the double-trace spectrum which we give explicitly for $su(4)$-singlet operators. We observe striking patterns in the corrections to the spectra which hint at their common ten-dimensional origin. By extending the observed patterns and imposing them at order $(α')^5$ we are able to reproduce the recently found result for the correction to the Mellin amplitude for $\langle \mathcal{O}_2 \mathcal{O}_2 \mathcal{O}_p \mathcal{O}_p \rangle$ correlators. By applying a similar logic to the $[0,1,0]$ channel of $su(4)$ we are able to deduce new results for the correlators of the form $\langle \mathcal{O}_2 \mathcal{O}_3 \mathcal{O}_{p-1} \mathcal{O}_p \rangle$.

Cloud platforms have emerged as a prominent environment to execute high performance computing (HPC) applications providing on-demand resources as well as scalability. They usually offer different classes of Virtual Machines (VMs) which ensure different guarantees in terms of availability and volatility, provisioning the same resource through multiple pricing models. For instance, in Amazon EC2 cloud, the user pays per hour for on-demand VMs while spot VMs are unused instances available for lower price. Despite the monetary advantages, a spot VM can be terminated, stopped, or hibernated by EC2 at any moment.
Using both hibernation-prone spot VMs (for cost sake) and on-demand VMs, we propose in this paper a static scheduling for HPC applications which are composed by independent tasks (bag-of-task) with deadline constraints. However, if a spot VM hibernates and it does not resume within a time which guarantees the application's deadline, a temporal failure takes place. Our scheduling, thus, aims at minimizing monetary costs of bag-of-tasks applications in EC2 cloud, respecting its deadline and avoiding temporal failures. To this end, our algorithm statically creates two scheduling maps: (i) the first one contains, for each task, its starting time and on which VM (i.e., an available spot or on-demand VM with the current lowest price) the task should execute; (ii) the second one contains, for each task allocated on a VM spot in the first map, its starting time and on which on-demand VM it should be executed to meet the application deadline in order to avoid temporal failures. The latter will be used whenever the hibernation period of a spot VM exceeds a time limit.
Performance results from simulation with task execution traces, configuration of Amazon EC2 VM classes, and VMs market history confirms the effectiveness of our scheduling and that it tolerates temporal failures.

For solving constrained multicriteria problems, we introduce the multiobjective barrier method (MBM), which extends the scalar-valued internal penalty method. This multiobjective version of the classical method also requires a penalty barrier for the feasible set and a sequence of nonnegative penalty parameters. Differently from the single-valued procedure, MBM is implemented by means of an auxiliary "monotonic" real-valued map**, which may be chosen in a quite large set of functions. Here, we consider problems with continuous objective functions, where the feasible sets are defined by finitely many continuous inequalities. Under mild assumptions, and depending on the monotonicity type of the auxiliary function, we establish convergence to Pareto or weak Pareto optima. Finally, we also propose an implementable version of MBM for seeking local optima and analyze its convergence to Pareto or weak Pareto solutions.

We bootstrap loop corrections to AdS${}_5$ supergravity amplitudes by enforcing the consistency of the known classical results with the operator product expansion of $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills theory. In particular this yields much new information on the spectrum of double-trace operators which can then be used, in combination with superconformal symmetry and crossing symmetry, to obtain a prediction for the one-loop amplitude for four graviton multiplets in AdS. This in turn yields further new results on subleading $O(1/N^4)$ corrections to certain double-trace anomalous dimensions.

Cross-application interference can affect drastically performance of HPC applications when running in clouds. This problem is caused by concurrent access performed by co-located applications to shared and non-sliceable resources such as cache and memory. In order to address this issue, some works adopted a qualitative approach that does not take into account the amount of access to shared resources. In addition, a few works, even considering the amount of access, evaluated just the SLLC access contention as the root of this problem. However, our experiments revealed that interference is intrinsically related to the amount of simultaneous access to shared resources, besides showing that another shared resources, apart from SLLC, can also influence the interference suffered by co-located applications. In this paper, we present a quantitative model for predicting cross-application interference in virtual environments. Our proposed model takes into account the amount of simultaneous access to SLLC, DRAM and virtual network, and the similarity of application's access burden to predict the level of interference suffered by applications when co-located in a same physical machine. Experiments considering a real petroleum reservoir simulator and applications from HPCC benchmark showed that our model reached an average and maximum prediction errors around 4\% and 12\%, besides achieving an error less than 10\% in approximately 96\% of all tested cases.

We obtain the planar correlation function of four half-BPS operators of arbitrary weights, up to three loops. Our method exploits only elementary properties of the integrand of the planar correlator, such as its symmetries and singularity structure. This allows us to write down a general ansatz for the integrand. The coefficients in the ansatz are fixed by means of a powerful light-cone OPE relation between correlators with different weights. Our result is formulated in terms of a limited number of functions built from known one-, two- and three-loop conformal integrals. These results are useful for checking recent integrability predictions for the OPE structure constants.

The Quadratic Assignment Problem, QAP, is a classic combinatorial optimization problem, classified as NP-hard and widely studied. This problem consists in assigning N facilities to N locations obeying the relation of 1 to 1, aiming to minimize costs of the displacement between the facilities. The application of Reformulation and Linearization Technique, RLT, to the QAP leads to a tight linear relaxation but large and difficult to solve. Previous works based on level 3 RLT needed about 700GB of working memory to process one large instances (N = 30 facilities). We present a modified version of the algorithm proposed by Adams et al. which executes on heterogeneous systems (CPUs and GPUs), based on level 2 RLT. For some instances, our algorithm is up to 140 times faster and occupy 97% less memory than the level 3 RLT version. The proposed algorithm was able to solve by first time two instances: tai35b and tai40b.

We analyse the OPE contribution of gluon bound states in the double scaling limit of the hexagonal Wilson loop in planar N=4 super Yang-Mills theory. We provide a systematic procedure for perturbatively resumming the contributions from single-particle bound states of gluons and expressing the result order by order in terms of two-variable polylogarithms. We also analyse certain contributions from two-particle gluon bound states and find that, after analytic continuation to the $2\to 4$ Mandelstam region and passing to multi-Regge kinematics (MRK), only the single-particle gluon bound states contribute. From this double-scaled version of MRK we are able to reconstruct the full hexagon remainder function in MRK up to five loops by invoking single-valuedness of the results.

Seven-particle scattering amplitudes in planar super-Yang-Mills theory are believed to belong to a special class of generalised polylogarithm functions called heptagon functions. These are functions with physical branch cuts whose symbols may be written in terms of the 42 cluster A-coordinates on Gr(4,7). Motivated by the success of the hexagon bootstrap programme for constructing six-particle amplitudes we initiate the systematic study of the symbols of heptagon functions. We find that there is exactly one such symbol of weight six which satisfies the MHV last-entry condition and is finite in the $7 \parallel 6$ collinear limit. This unique symbol is both dihedral and parity-symmetric, and remarkably its collinear limit is exactly the symbol of the three-loop six-particle MHV amplitude, although none of these properties were assumed a priori. It must therefore be the symbol of the three-loop seven-particle MHV amplitude. The simplicity of its construction suggests that the n-gon bootstrap may be surprisingly powerful for n>6.

Cloud computing can offer a set of computing resources according to users' demand. It is suitable to be used to handle flash-crowd events in Web applications due to its elasticity and on-demand characteristics. Thus, when Web applications need more computing or storage capacity, they just instantiate new resources. However, providers have to estimate the amount of resources to instantiate to handle with the flash-crowd event. This estimation is far from trivial since each cloud environment provides several kinds of heterogeneous resources, each one with its own characteristics such as bandwidth, CPU, memory and financial cost. In this paper, the Flash Crowd Handling Problem (FCHP) is precisely defined and formulated as an integer programming problem. A new algorithm for handling with a flash crowd named FCHP-ILS is also proposed. With FCHP-ILS the Web applications can replicate contents in the already instantiated resources and define the types and amount of resources to instantiate in the cloud during a flash crowd. Our approach is evaluated considering real flash crowd traces obtained from the related literature. We also present a case study, based on a synthetic dataset representing flash-crowd events in small scenarios aiming at the comparison of the proposed approach against Amazon's Auto-Scale mechanism.

We describe the hexagon function bootstrap for solving for six-gluon scattering amplitudes in the large $N_c$ limit of ${\cal N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills theory. In this method, an ansatz for the finite part of these amplitudes is constrained at the level of amplitudes, not integrands, using boundary information. In the near-collinear limit, the dual picture of the amplitudes as Wilson loops leads to an operator product expansion which has been solved using integrability by Basso, Sever and Vieira. Factorization of the amplitudes in the multi-Regge limit provides additional boundary data. This bootstrap has been applied successfully through four loops for the maximally helicity violating (MHV) configuration of gluon helicities, and through three loops for the non-MHV case.

We present the four-loop remainder function for six-gluon scattering with maximal helicity violation in planar N=4 super-Yang-Mills theory, as an analytic function of three dual-conformal cross ratios. The function is constructed entirely from its analytic properties, without ever inspecting any multi-loop integrand. We employ the same approach used at three loops, writing an ansatz in terms of hexagon functions, and fixing coefficients in the ansatz using the multi-Regge limit and the operator product expansion in the near-collinear limit. We express the result in terms of multiple polylogarithms, and in terms of the coproduct for the associated Hopf algebra. From the remainder function, we extract the BFKL eigenvalue at next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy (NNLLA), and the impact factor at NNNLLA. We plot the remainder function along various lines and on one surface, studying ratios of successive loop orders. As seen previously through three loops, these ratios are surprisingly constant over large regions in the space of cross ratios, and they are not far from the value expected at asymptotically large orders of perturbation theory.

We present the three-loop remainder function, which describes the scattering of six gluons in the maximally-helicity-violating configuration in planar N=4 super-Yang-Mills theory, as a function of the three dual conformal cross ratios. The result can be expressed in terms of multiple Goncharov polylogarithms. We also employ a more restricted class of "hexagon functions" which have the correct branch cuts and certain other restrictions on their symbols. We classify all the hexagon functions through transcendental weight five, using the coproduct for their Hopf algebra iteratively, which amounts to a set of first-order differential equations. The three-loop remainder function is a particular weight-six hexagon function, whose symbol was determined previously. The differential equations can be integrated numerically for generic values of the cross ratios, or analytically in certain kinematics limits, including the near-collinear and multi-Regge limits. These limits allow us to impose constraints from the operator product expansion and multi-Regge factorization directly at the function level, and thereby to fix uniquely a set of Riemann-zeta-valued constants that could not be fixed at the level of the symbol. The near-collinear limits agree precisely with recent predictions by Basso, Sever and Vieira based on integrability. The multi-Regge limits agree with the factorization formula of Fadin and Lipatov, and determine three constants entering the impact factor at this order. We plot the three-loop remainder function for various slices of the Euclidean region of positive cross ratios, and compare it to the two-loop one. For large ranges of the cross ratios, the ratio of the three-loop to the two-loop remainder function is relatively constant, and close to -7.

The application of the Reformulation Linearization Technique (RLT) to the Quadratic Assignment Problem (QAP) leads to a tight linear relaxation with huge dimensions that is hard to solve. Previous works found in the literature show that these relaxations combined with branch-and-bound algorithms belong to the state-of-the-art of exact methods for the QAP. For the level 3 RLT (RLT3), using this relaxation is prohibitive in conventional machines for instances with more than 22 locations due to memory limitations. This paper presents a distributed version of a dual ascent algorithm for the RLT3 QAP relaxation that approximately solves it for instances with up to 30 locations for the first time. Although, basically, the distributed algorithm has been implemented on top of its sequential conterpart, some changes, which improved not only the parallel performance but also the quality of solutions, were proposed here. When compared to other lower bounding methods found in the literature, our algorithm generates the best known lower bounds for 26 out of the 28 tested instances, reaching the optimal solution in 18 of them.

The latest trends in high-performance computing systems show an increasing demand on the use of a large scale multicore systems in a efficient way, so that high compute-intensive applications can be executed reasonably well. However, the exploitation of the degree of parallelism available at each multicore component can be limited by the poor utilization of the memory hierarchy available. Actually, the multicore architecture introduces some distinct features that are already observed in shared memory and distributed environments. One example is that subsets of cores can share different subsets of memory. In order to achieve high performance it is imperative that a careful allocation scheme of an application is carried out on the available cores, based on a scheduling model that considers the main performance bottlenecks, as for example, memory contention. In this paper, the {\em Multicore Cluster Model} (MCM) is proposed, which captures the most relevant performance characteristics in multicores systems such as the influence of memory hierarchy and contention. Better performance was achieved when a load balance strategy for a Branch-and-Bound application applied to the Partitioning Sets Problem is based on MCM, showing its efficiency and applicability to modern systems.

A Content Distribution Network (CDN) can be defined as an overlay system that replicates copies of contents at multiple points of a network, close to the final users, with the objective of improving data access. CDN technology is widely used for the distribution of large-sized contents, like in video streaming. In this paper we address the problem of finding the best server for each customer request in CDNs, in order to minimize the overall cost. We consider the problem as a transportation problem and a distributed algorithm is proposed to solve it. The algorithm is composed of two independent phases: a distributed heuristic finds an initial solution that may be later improved by a distributed transportation simplex algorithm. It is compared with the sequential version of the transportation simplex and with an auction-based distributed algorithm. Computational experiments carried out on a set of instances adapted from the literature revealed that our distributed approach has a performance similar to its sequential counterpart, in spite of not requiring global information about the contents requests. Moreover, the results also showed that the new method outperforms the based-auction distributed algorithm.

We provide a simple analytic formula for the two-loop six-point ratio function of planar N = 4 super Yang-Mills theory. This result extends the analytic knowledge of multi-loop six-point amplitudes beyond those with maximal helicity violation. We make a natural ansatz for the symbols of the relevant functions appearing in the two-loop amplitude, and impose various consistency conditions, including symmetry, the absence of spurious poles, the correct collinear behaviour, and agreement with the operator product expansion for light-like (super) Wilson loops. This information reduces the ansatz to a small number of relatively simple functions. In order to fix these parameters uniquely, we utilize an explicit representation of the amplitude in terms of loop integrals that can be evaluated analytically in various kinematic limits. The final compact analytic result is expressed in terms of classical polylogarithms, whose arguments are rational functions of the dual conformal cross-ratios, plus precisely two functions that are not of this type. One of the functions, the loop integral Ω^{(2)}, also plays a key role in a new representation of the remainder function R_6^{(2)} in the maximally helicity violating sector. Another interesting feature at two loops is the appearance of a new (parity odd) \times (parity odd) sector of the amplitude, which is absent at one loop, and which is uniquely determined in a natural way in terms of the more familiar (parity even) \times (parity even) part. The second non-polylogarithmic function, the loop integral \tildeΩ^{(2)}, characterizes this sector. Both Ω^{(2)} and tildeΩ^{(2)} can be expressed as one-dimensional integrals over classical polylogarithms with rational arguments.

We consider the hexagonal Wilson loop dual to the six-point MHV amplitude in planar N=4 super Yang-Mills theory. We apply constraints from the operator product expansion in the near-collinear limit to the symbol of the remainder function at three loops. Using these constraints, and assuming a natural ansatz for the symbol's entries, we determine the symbol up to just two undetermined constants. In the multi-Regge limit, both constants drop out from the symbol, enabling us to make a non-trivial confirmation of the BFKL prediction for the leading-log approximation. This result provides a strong consistency check of both our ansatz for the symbol and the duality between Wilson loops and MHV amplitudes. Furthermore, we predict the form of the full three-loop remainder function in the multi-Regge limit, beyond the leading-log approximation, up to a few constants representing terms not detected by the symbol. Our results confirm an all-loop prediction for the real part of the remainder function in multi-Regge 3-->3 scattering. In the multi-Regge limit, our result for the remainder function can be expressed entirely in terms of classical polylogarithms. For generic six-point kinematics other functions are required.

We compute the six-dimensional hexagon integral with three non-adjacent external masses analytically. After a simple rescaling, it is given by a function of six dual conformally invariant cross-ratios. The result can be expressed as a sum of 24 terms involving only one basic function, which is a simple linear combination of logarithms, dilogarithms, and trilogarithms of uniform degree three transcendentality. Our method uses differential equations to determine the symbol of the function, and an algorithm to reconstruct the latter from its symbol. It is known that six-dimensional hexagon integrals are closely related to scattering amplitudes in N=4 super Yang-Mills theory, and we therefore expect our result to be helpful for understanding the structure of scattering amplitudes in this theory, in particular at two loops.

Abstract:
We provide an analytic formula for the (rescaled) one-loop scalar hexagon integral $\tildeΦ_6$ with all external legs massless, in terms of classical polylogarithms. We show that this integral is closely connected to two integrals appearing in one- and two-loop amplitudes in planar $\\mathcal{N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills theory, $Ω^{(1)}$ and $Ω^{(2)}$. The derivative of $Ω^{(2)}$ with respect to one of the conformal invariants yields $\tildeΦ_6$, while another first-order differential operator applied to $\tildeΦ_6$ yields $Ω^{(1)}$. We also introduce some kinematic variables that rationalize the arguments of the polylogarithms, making it easy to verify the latter differential equation. We also give a further example of a six-dimensional integral relevant for amplitudes in $\\mathcal{N}=4$ super-Yang-Mills.

Scattering amplitudes in planar N=4 super Yang-Mills theory reveal a remarkable symmetry structure. In addition to the superconformal symmetry of the Lagrangian of the theory, the planar amplitudes exhibit a dual superconformal symmetry. The presence of this additional symmetry imposes strong restrictions on the amplitudes and is connected to a duality relating scattering amplitudes to Wilson loops defined on polygonal light-like contours. The combination of the superconformal and dual superconformal symmetries gives rise to a Yangian, an algebraic structure which is known to be related to the appearance of integrability in other regimes of the theory. We discuss two dual formulations of the symmetry and address the classification of its invariants.

We present a novel type of differential equations for on-shell loop integrals. The equations are second-order and importantly, they reduce the loop level by one, so that they can be solved iteratively in the loop order. We present several infinite series of integrals satisfying such iterative differential equations. The differential operators we use are best written using momentum twistor space. The use of the latter was advocated in recent papers discussing loop integrals in N=4 super Yang-Mills. One of our motivations is to provide a tool for deriving analytical results for scattering amplitudes in this theory. We show that the integrals needed for planar MHV amplitudes up to two loops can be thought of as deriving from a single master topology. The master integral satisfies our differential equations, and so do most of the reduced integrals. A consequence of the differential equations is that the integrals we discuss are not arbitrarily complicated transcendental functions. For two specific two-loop integrals we give the full analytic solution. The simplicity of the integrals appearing in the scattering amplitudes in planar N=4 super Yang-Mills is strongly suggestive of a relation to the conjectured underlying integrability of the theory. We expect these differential equations to be relevant for all planar MHV and non-MHV amplitudes. We also discuss possible extensions of our method to more general classes of integrals.

Using the BCFW recursion relations we solve for the tree-level S-matrix in N=4 super Yang-Mills theory, and describe how it produces a sum of invariants of a large symmetry algebra. We review amplitudes in the planar theory beyond tree-level, describing the connection between amplitudes and Wilson loops, and discuss the implications of the hidden symmetries.

In this article we discuss these counterterms again from the point of view of representations of the superconformal group. In particular, we show that the only independent invariants constructed from shortened superconformal multiplets in $D=4$ are BPS.

We show that two-loop amplitudes in N=4 super Yang-Mills can be expanded in terms of basis integrals having twistor numerators. We argue that these integrals are considerably simpler compared to the ones conventionally used. Our case in point is the two-loop six-point MHV amplitude. We present analytical results for the remainder function in a kinematical limit, and find agreement with a recent Wilson loop computation. We also provide two-loop evidence that the logarithm of MHV amplitudes can be written in terms of simple twistor space integrals.

We investigate the Yangian symmetry of scattering amplitudes in N=4 super Yang-Mills theory and show that its formulations in twistor and momentum twistor space can be interchanged. In particular we show that the full symmetry can be thought of as the Yangian of the dual superconformal algebra, annihilating the amplitude with the MHV part factored out. The equivalence of this picture with the one where the ordinary superconformal symmetry is thought of as fundamental is an algebraic expression of T-duality. Motivated by this, we analyse some recently proposed formulas, which reproduce different contributions to amplitudes through a Grassmannian integral. We prove their Yangian invariance by directly applying the generators.
