Radiation hardness qualification of PbWO4 scintillation crystals for the CMS Electromagnetic Calorimeter
Abstract: Ensuring the radiation hardness of PbWO4 crystals was one of the main priorities during the construction of the electromagnetic calorimeter of the CMS experiment at CERN. The production on an industrial scale of radiation hard crystals and their certification over a period of several years represented a difficult challenge both for CMS and for the crystal suppliers. The present article reviews t… ▽ More

Formation Of A Cold Antihydrogen Beam in AEGIS For Gravity Measurements
Abstract: The formation of the antihydrogen beam in the AEGIS experiment through the use of inhomogeneous electric fields is discussed and simulation results including the geometry of the apparatus and realistic hypothesis about the antihydrogen initial conditions are shown. The resulting velocity distribution matches the requirements of the gravity experiment. In particular it is shown that the inhomogen… ▽ More

PWO crystals for CMS electromagnetic calorimeter : studies of the radiation damage kinetics
Abstract: Kinetics of radiation damage of the PWO crystals under irradiation and recovery were studied. Crystals were irradiated with dose corresponding to average one expected in the electromagnetic calorimeter (working dose irradiation). Radiation damage and recovery were monitored through measurements of PWO optical transmission. An approach is proposed which allows evaluating the influence of the PWO… ▽ More

On the Radiation Damage of BTeV EMCAL Detector Unit
Abstract: Hamamatsu photomultiplier tubes (PMT) and various PMT window materials were exposed to gamma irradiation. Tests were performed with absorbed doses of 1 krad and 120 krad. Initial recommendations on PMT types to use in the BTeV electromagnetic calorimeter are stated.
