Measurement of higher-order multipole amplitudes in $ψ(3686)\rightarrowγχ_{c1,2}$ with $χ_{c1,2}\toγJ/ψ$ and search for the transition $η_{c}(2S)\toγJ/ψ$

Abstract: Using 106~million $ψ(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector, we measure multipole amplitudes for the decay $ψ(3686)\rightarrowγχ_{c1,2}\toγγJ/ψ$ beyond the dominant electric-dipole amplitudes. The normalized magnetic-quadrupole amplitude for $ψ(3686)\rightarrowγχ_{c1,2}\rightarrowγγJ/ψ$ and the normalized electric-octupole amplitudes for $ψ(3686)rightarrowγχ_{c2}$,~… ▽ More Using 106~million $ψ(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector, we measure multipole amplitudes for the decay $ψ(3686)\rightarrowγχ_{c1,2}\toγγJ/ψ$ beyond the dominant electric-dipole amplitudes. The normalized magnetic-quadrupole amplitude for $ψ(3686)\rightarrowγχ_{c1,2}\rightarrowγγJ/ψ$ and the normalized electric-octupole amplitudes for $ψ(3686)rightarrowγχ_{c2}$,~$χ_{c2}\rightarrowγJ/ψ$ are determined. The M2 amplitudes for $ψ(3686)\rightarrowγχ_{c1}$ and $χ_{c1,2}\rightarrowγJ/ψ$ are found to differ significantly from zero and are consistent with theoretical predictions. We also obtain the ratios of M2 contributions of $ψ(3686)$ and $J/ψ$ decays to $χ_{c1,2}$, $b_{2}^{1}/b_{2}^{2} = 1.35\pm0.72$ and $a_{2}^{1}/a_{2}^{2} = 0.617\pm0.083$, which agree well with theoretical expectations. By considering the multipole contributions of $χ_{c1,2}$, we measure the product branching fractions for the cascade decays $ψ(3686)\rightarrowγχ_{c0,1,2}\toγγJ/ψ$ and search for the process $η_{c}(2S)\toγJ/ψ$ through $ψ(3686)\rightarrowγη_{c}(2S)$. The product branching fraction for $ψ(3686)\rightarrowγχ_{c0}\toγγJ/ψ$ is 3$σ$ larger than published measurements, while those of $ψ(3686)rightarrowγχ_{c1,2}\toγγJ/ψ$ are consistent. No significant signal for the decay $ψ(3686)\toγη_c(2S)\toγγJ/ψ$ is observed, and the upper limit of the product branching fraction at the 90\% confidence level is determined. △ Less

Abstract: We study the decays of $J/ψ$ and $ψ(3686)$ to the final states $Σ(1385)^{0}\barΣ(1385)^{0}$ and $Ξ^0\barΞ^{0}$ based on a single baryon tag method using data samples of $(1310.6 \pm 7.0) \times 10^{6}$ $J/ψ$ and $(447.9 \pm 2.9) \times 10^{6}$ $ψ(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The decays to $Σ(1385)^{0}\barΣ(1385)^{0}$ are observed for the first time. The… ▽ More We study the decays of $J/ψ$ and $ψ(3686)$ to the final states $Σ(1385)^{0}\barΣ(1385)^{0}$ and $Ξ^0\barΞ^{0}$ based on a single baryon tag method using data samples of $(1310.6 \pm 7.0) \times 10^{6}$ $J/ψ$ and $(447.9 \pm 2.9) \times 10^{6}$ $ψ(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The decays to $Σ(1385)^{0}\barΣ(1385)^{0}$ are observed for the first time. The measured branching fractions of $J/ψ$ and $ψ(3686)\rightarrowΞ^0\barΞ^{0}$ are in good agreement with, and much more precise, than the previously published results. The angular parameters for these decays are also measured for the first time. The measured angular decay parameter for $J/ψ\rightarrowΣ(1385)^{0}\barΣ(1385)^{0}$, $α=-0.64 \pm 0.03 \pm 0.10$, is found to be negative, different to the other decay processes in this measurement. In addition, the "12\% rule" and isospin symmetry in the $J/ψ$ and $ψ(3686)\rightarrowΞ\barΞ$ and $Σ(1385)\barΣ(1385)$ systems are tested. △ Less

Abstract: The decays of $χ_{c2}\to K^{+}K^{-}π^{0}$, $K_{S} K^{\pm}π^{\mp}$ and $π^{+}π^{-}π^{0}$ are studied with the $ψ(3686)$ data samples collected with the Bei**g Spectrometer (BESIII). For the first time, the branching fractions of $χ_{c2}\to K^{\ast}\overline{K}$, $χ_{c2}\to a_{2}^{\pm}(1320)π^{\mp}/a_{2}^{0}(1320)π^{0}$ and $χ_{c2}\to ρ(770)^{\pm}π^{\mp}$ are measured. Here $K^{\ast}\overline{K}$ denotes both $K^{\ast\pm}K^{\mp}$ and $K^{\ast 0}\overline{K}{}^{0}+c.c.$, and $K^{\ast}$ denotes the resonances $K^{\ast}(892)$, $K^{\ast}_{2}(1430)$ and $K^{\ast}_{3}(1780)$. The observations indicate a strong violation of the helicity selection rule in $χ_{c2}$ decays into vector and pseudoscalar meson pairs. The measured branching fractions of $χ_{c2}\to K^{\ast}(892)\overline{K}$ are more than 10 times larger than the upper limit of $χ_{c2}\to ρ(770)^{\pm}π^{\mp}$, which is so far the first direct observation of a significant $U$-spin symmetry breaking effect in charmonium decays. △ Less

Observation of the doubly radiative decay $η^{\prime}\to γγπ^0$

Improved measurements of branching fractions for $η_c\toφφ$ and $ωφ$

Measurement of the Absolute Branching Fraction for $Λ_c^+\rightarrow Λμ^+ν_μ$

Abstract: We report the first measurement of the absolute branching fraction for $Λ^+_{c}\rightarrow Λμ^+ν_μ$. This measurement is based on a sample of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=4.6$ GeV collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage rings. The sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 567 pb$^{-1}$. The sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 567 pb$^{-1}$. The branching fraction is determined to be $\mathcal B({Λ^+_c\rightarrow Λμ^+ν_μ})=(3.49\pm0.46({\rm stat})\pm0.27({\rm syst}))\%$. Evidence of Two Resonant Structures in $e^+ e^- \to π^+ π^- h_c$

The cross sections are found to be of the same order of magnitude as those of $e^{+}e^{-}\toπ^{+}π^{-}J/ψ$ and $e^{+}e^{-}\toπ^{+}π^{-}ψ(2S)$, but the line shape is inconsistent… ▽ More The cross sections of $e^{+}e^{-}\toπ^{+}π^{-}h_c$ at center-of-mass energies from 3.896 to 4.600 GeV are measured using data samples collected with the BESIII detector operating at the Bei**g Electron Positron Collider. The cross sections are found to be of the same order of magnitude as those of $e^{+}e^{-}\toπ^{+}π^{-}J/ψ$ and $e^{+}e^{-}\toπ^{+}π^{-}ψ(2S)$, but the line shape is inconsistent with the $Y$ states observed in the latter two modes. Two structures are observed in the $e^{+}e^{-}\toπ^{+}π^{-}h_c$ cross sections around 4.22 and 4.39 GeV/$c^{2}$, which we call $Y(4220)$ and $Y(4390)$, respectively. A fit with a coherent sum of two Breit-Wigner functions results in a mass of $(4218.4^{+5.5}_{-4.5}\pm0.9)$ MeV/$c^{2}$ and a width of $(66.0^{+12.3}_{-8.3}\pm0.4)$ MeV for the $Y(4220)$, and a mass of $(4391.6^{+6.3}_{-6.8}\pm1.0)$ MeV/$c^{2}$ and a width of $(139.5^{+16.2}_{-20.6}\pm0.6)$ MeV for the $Y(4390)$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones systematic. The statistical significance of $Y(4220)$ and $Y(4390)$ is 10$σ$ over one structure assumption. △ Less

Amplitude analysis of the $χ_{c1} \to ηπ^+π^-$ decays

Abstract: Using 567 $pb^{-1}$ of data collected with the BESIII detector at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=$ 4.599 $GeV$, near the $Λ_{c}^{+}Λ_{c}^{-}$ threshold, we study the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decays $Λ_c^{+}\to pπ^{+}π^{-}$ and $Λ_c^{+}\to pK^{+}K^{-}$. Determination of the number of $J/ψ$ events with inclusive $J/ψ$ decays

Long Fading Mid-Infrared Emission in Transient Coronal Line Emitters: Dust Echo of Tidal Disruption Flare

The gas and dust surrounding the black hole responses to such a flare with an echo in emission lines and infrared emission. The gas and dust surrounding the black hole responses to such a flare with an echo in emission lines and infrared emission. In this paper, we report the detection of long fading mid-IR emission lasting up to 14 years after the flare in four TDE candidates with transient coronal lines using the WISE public data release. We estimate that the reprocessed mid-IR luminosities are in the range between $4\times 10^{42}$ and $2\times 10^{43}$ erg~s$^{-1}$ and dust temperature in the range of 570-800K when WISE first detected these sources three to five years after the flare. Both luminosity and dust temperature decreases with time. We interpret the mid-IR emission as the infrared echo of the tidal disruption flare. We estimate the UV luminosity at the peak flare to be 1 to 30 times $10^{44}$ erg s$^{-1}$ and for warm dust masses to be in the range of 0.05-1.3 Msun within a few parsecs. Our results suggest that the mid-infrared echo is a general signature of TDE in the gas-rich environment. △ Less

Exploratory Chandra observation of the ultraluminous quasar SDSS J010013.02+280225.8 at redshift 6.30

Abstract: We report exploratory \chandra\ observation of the ultraluminous quasar SDSS J010013.02+280225.8 at redshift 6.30. The quasar is clearly detected by \chandra\ with a possible component of extended emission. The rest-frame 2-10 keV luminosity is 9.0$^{+9.1}_{-4.5}$ $\times$ 10$^{45}$ erg s$^{-1}$ with inferred photon index of $Γ$ = 3.03$^{+0.78}_{-0.70}$. The WISE Detection of an Infrared Echo in Tidal Disruption Event ASASSN-14li

Abstract: We report the detection of a significant infrared variability of the nearest tidal disruption event (TDE) ASASSN-14li using Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer} and newly released Near-Earth Object WISE Reactivation} data. In comparison with the quiescent state, the infrared flux is brightened by 0.12 and 0.16 magnitude in the W1 ($3.4μ$m) and W2 ($4.6μ$m) bands at 36 days after the optical discov… ▽ More We report the detection of a significant infrared variability of the nearest tidal disruption event (TDE) ASASSN-14li using Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer} and newly released Near-Earth Object WISE Reactivation} data. In comparison with the quiescent state, the infrared flux is brightened by 0.12 and 0.16 magnitude in the W1 ($3.4μ$m) and W2 ($4.6μ$m) bands at 36 days after the optical discovery (or $\sim110$ days after the peak disruption date). The flux excess is still detectable $\sim170$ more days later. Assuming that the flare-like infrared emission is from the dust around the black hole, its blackbody temperature is estimated to be $\sim2.1\times10^3$~K, slightly higher than the dust sublimation temperature, indicating that the dust is likely located close to the dust sublimation radius. The equilibrium between the heating and radiation of the dust claims a bolometric luminosity of $\sim10^{43}-10^{45}$~\lum, comparable with the observed peak luminosity. This result has for the first time confirmed the detection of infrared emission from the dust echoes of TDEs. △ Less

We use two models to characterize the $η^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-}$ line shape around $1.85~\text{GeV}/c^{2}$: one which explicitly incorporates the opening of a decay threshold in the mass spectrum (Flatté formula), and another which is the coherent sum of two resonant amplitudes. Both fits show almost equally good agreement with data, and suggest the existence of either a broad state around $1.85~\text{GeV}/c^{2}$ with strong couplings to $p\bar{p}$ final states or a narrow state just below the $p\bar{p}$ mass threshold. Although we cannot distinguish between the fits, either one supports the existence of a $p\bar{p}$ molecule-like state or bound state with greater than $7σ$ significance. △ Less

The X-ray spectrum in 0.2-10 keV can be characterized by an absorbed power-law plus soft excess and an Fe K$α$ emission line. The power-law spectral index remains constant during the flux variation. The absorbing material is mildly ionized, with a column density of 3.2$\times$10$^{21}$ cm$^{-2}$, and does not appear to vary during the period of the X-ray observation. If the same material causes the optical reddening (E(B-V)$\simeq$0.6 mag), it must be located outside the narrow line region with a dust-to-gas ratio similar to the average Galactic value. We detect significant variations of the Fe K$α$ line during the observational period. A broad Fe K$α$ line at $\simeq$6.7 keV with a width of $\sim$0.6 keV is detected in the low flux segment of the first 40 ks exposure, and is absent in the spectra of other segments; a narrow Fe K$α$ emission line $\sim$6.4 keV with a width of $\sim$0.1 keV is observed in the subsequent 20 ks segment, which has a count rate of 35% higher and is in the next day. We believe this is due to the change in geometry and kinematics of the X-ray emitting corona. The temperature and flux of soft X-ray excess appear to correlate with the flux of the hard power-law component. Comptonization of disc photons by a warm and optically thick inner disk is preferred to interpret the soft excess, rather than the ionized reflection. △ Less

Observation of pseudoscalar and tensor resonances in $J/ψ\rightarrow γφφ$

In addition to these three pseudoscalar states, the scalar state $f_0(2100)$, and three tensor states, the $f_2(2010)$, $f_2(2300)$ and $f_2(2340)$, are observed in the process $J/ψ\rightarrow γφφ$. With an integrated luminosity of $1074 pb^{-1}$ near $\sqrt{s} =$ 4.42 GeV, a significant $ωχ_{c2}$ signal is found, and the cross section is measured to be $(20.9 \pm 3.2 \pm 2.5)\pb$. With $567 pb^{-1}$ near $\sqrt{s} =$ 4.6 GeV, a clear $ωχ_{c1}$ signal is seen, and the cross section is measured to be $(9.5 \pm 2.1 \pm 1.3) \pb$, while evidence is found for an $ωχ_{c2}$ signal. The first errors are statistical and the second are systematic. Due to low luminosity or low cross section at other energies, no significant signals are observed. In the $ωχ_{c2}$ cross section, an enhancement is seen around $\sqrt{s} =$ 4.42 GeV. Fitting the cross section with a coherent sum of the $ψ(4415)$ Breit-Wigner function and a phase space term, the branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(ψ(4415)\toωχ_{c2})$ is obtained to be of the order of $10^{-3}$. △ Less

To this end we combine three ingredients: (i) Three features with functions of mutual complementation are adopted to describe the images, including PHOW (Pyramid Histogram of Words), PHOC (Pyramid Hi… ▽ More Image Classification based on BOW (Bag-of-words) has broad application prospect in pattern recognition field but the shortcomings are existed because of single feature and low classification accuracy. To this end we combine three ingredients: (i) Three features with functions of mutual complementation are adopted to describe the images, including PHOW (Pyramid Histogram of Words), PHOC (Pyramid Histogram of Color) and PHOG (Pyramid Histogram of Orientated Gradients). (ii) The improvement of traditional BOW model is presented by using dense sample and an improved K-means clustering method for constructing the visual dictionary. (iii) An adaptive feature-weight adjusted image categorization algorithm based on the SVM and the fusion of multiple features is adopted. Experiments carried out on Caltech 101 database confirm the validity of the proposed approach. From the experimental results can be seen that the classification accuracy rate of the proposed method is improved by 7%-17% higher than that of the traditional BOW methods. This algorithm makes full use of global, local and spatial information and has significant improvements to the classification accuracy. △ Less

Here we show the photogeneration of a novel primary intrachain photoexcitation species, namely the composite multi-exciton (CME) in $π$-conjugated donor-acceptor (DA)-copolymers used in organic photovoltaic (OPV) solar cells. We utilized the magnetic field response of the transient photoinduced absorption from sub-picosecond to millisecond to show in pristine DA-copolymer early photogeneration of the CME species that is composed of four coupled spin 1/2 particles, having unique optical and magnetic signatures. This species decomposes into two independent triplets in the microsecond time domain. Importantly in copolymer/fullerene blends the CME ionization generates photocarriers by a unique process that may enhance the photocurrent in OPV solar cells. △ Less

Chandra and MMT observations of low-mass black hole active galactic nuclei accreting at low rates in dwarf galaxies

Abstract: We report on Chandra X-ray observations of four candidate low-mass black hole (<10^6Msun) active galactic nuclei (AGNs) that have the estimated Eddington ratios among the lowest (~10^(-2)) found for this class. The aims are to validate the nature of their AGNs and to confirm the low Eddington ratios that are derived from the broad H_alpha line, and to explore this poorly studied regime in the AGN… ▽ More We report on Chandra X-ray observations of four candidate low-mass black hole (<10^6Msun) active galactic nuclei (AGNs) that have the estimated Eddington ratios among the lowest (~10^(-2)) found for this class. The aims are to validate the nature of their AGNs and to confirm the low Eddington ratios that are derived from the broad H_alpha line, and to explore this poorly studied regime in the AGN parameter space. Among them, two objects with the lowest significance of the broad lines are also observed with Multi-Mirror Telescope, and the high-quality optical spectra taken confirm them as Seyfert 1 AGNs and as having small black hole masses. X-ray emission is detected from the nuclei of two of the galaxies, which is variable on timescales of 10^3s, whereas no significant (or only marginal at best) detection is found for the remaining two. The X-ray luminosities are on the order of 10^(41) ergs/s or even lower, on the order of 10^(40) ergs/s for non-detections, which are among the lowest regimes ever probed for Seyfert galaxies. The low X-ray luminosities, compared to their black hole masses derived from H_alpha, confirm their low accretion rates assuming typical bolometric corrections. Our results hint at the existence of a possibly large population of under-luminous low-mass black holes in the local universe. An off-nucleus ultra-luminous X-ray source (ULX) in one of the dwarf galaxies is detected serendipitously, with a luminosity (6-9)x10^(39) ergs/s in 2-10 keV. △ Less

MARVELS uses the technique of dispersed fixed-delay interferometery to simultaneously obtain radial velocity measurements for 60 objects per field using a single, custom-built instrument that is fiber fed from the SDSS 2.5-m telescope. From our 20 radial velocity measurements spread over a ~370 d time baseline, we derive a Keplerian orbital fit with semi-amplitude K=2.533+/-0.025 km/s, period P=5.8953+/-0.0004 d, and eccentricity consistent with circular. Independent follow-up radial velocity data confirm the orbit. Adopting a mass of 1.37+/-0.11 M_Sun for the slightly evolved F9 host star, we infer that the companion has a minimum mass of 28.0+/-1.5 M_Jup, a semimajor axis 0.071+/-0.002 AU assuming an edge-on orbit, and is probably tidally synchronized. We find no evidence for coherent instrinsic variability of the host star at the period of the companion at levels greater than a few millimagnitudes. The companion has an a priori transit probability of ~14%. Although we find no evidence for transits, we cannot definitively rule them out for companion radii ~<1 R_Jup. △ Less

Systematic study of a large sample of NLS1 galaxies from SDSS: first results

SDSS J160531.84+174826.1: A Dwarf Disk Galaxy With An Intermediate-Mass Black Hole

Abstract: We report the discovery of a dwarf Seyfert 1 active galactic nucleus (AGN) with a candidate intermediate-mass black hole hosted by the dwarf galaxy SDSS J160531.84+174826.1 at z=0.032. A broad component of the H-alpha line with FWHM=781 km/s is detected in its optical spectrum, and a bright, point-like nucleus is evident from a HST imaging observation. Non-thermal X-ray emission is also detected… ▽ More We report the discovery of a dwarf Seyfert 1 active galactic nucleus (AGN) with a candidate intermediate-mass black hole hosted by the dwarf galaxy SDSS J160531.84+174826.1 at z=0.032.
