Normal Forms and Tyurin Degenerations of K3 Surfaces Polarised by a Rank 18 Lattice
Abstract: We study projective Type II degenerations of K3 surfaces polarised by a certain rank 18 lattice, where the central fibre consists of a pair of rational surfaces glued along a smooth elliptic curve. Given such a degeneration, one may construct other degenerations of the same kind by flop** curves on the central fibre, but the degenerations obtained from this process are not usually projective. Modularity of Landau-Ginzburg models
Abstract: For each Fano threefold, we construct a family of Landau-Ginzburg models which satisfy many expectations coming from different aspects of mirror symmetry; they are log Calabi-Yau varieties with proper potential maps; they admit open algebraic torus charts on which the potential function $w$ restricts to a Laurent polynomial satisfying a deformation of the Minkowski ansatz; the general fibres of… ▽ More

Coronal Heating as Determined by the Solar Flare Frequency Distribution Obtained by Aggregating Case Studies
Abstract: Flare frequency distributions represent a key approach to addressing one of the largest problems in solar and stellar physics: determining the mechanism that counter-intuitively heats coronae to temperatures that are orders of magnitude hotter than the corresponding photospheres. It is widely accepted that the magnetic field is responsible for the heating, but there are two competing mechanisms th… ▽ More

Fast Neural Network based Solving of Partial Differential Equations
Abstract: We present a novel method for using Neural Networks (NNs) for finding solutions to a class of Partial Differential Equations (PDEs). Our method builds on recent advances in Neural Radiance Field research (NeRFs) and allows for a NN to converge to a PDE solution much faster than classic Physically Informed Neural Network (PINNs) approaches.

$K_2$ and quantum curves
Abstract: A 2015 conjecture of Codesido-Grassi-Mariño in topological string theory relates the enumerative invariants of toric CY 3-folds to the spectra of operators attached to their mirror curves. We deduce two consequences of this conjecture for the integral regulators of $K_2$-classes on these curves, and then prove both of them; the results thus give evidence for the CGM conjecture. Unwinding toric degenerations and mirror symmetry for Grassmannians
Abstract: The most fundamental example of mirror symmetry compares the Fermat hypersurfaces in P^n and P^n/G, where G is a finite group that acts on P^n and preserves the Fermat hypersurface. We generalise this to hypersurfaces in Grassmannians, where the picture is richer and more complex. There is a finite group G that acts on the Grassmannian Gr(n,r) and preserves an appropriate Calabi-Yau hypersurface.… ▽ More

Abstract: This paper discusses the overlap of the Hori-Vafa formulation of mirror symmetry with some other constructions. We focus on compact Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces \mathcal{M}_G = {G = 0} in weighted complex projective spaces. The Hori-Vafa formalism relates a family {\mathcal{M}_G \in WCP^{m-1}_{Q_1,...,Q_m}[s] | \sum_{i=1}^m Q_i = s} of such hypersurfaces to a single Landau-Ginzburg mirror theory. A te… ▽ More

Codes and Supersymmetry in One Dimension
Abstract: Adinkras are diagrams that describe many useful supermultiplets in D=1 dimensions. We show that the topology of the Adinkra is uniquely determined by a doubly even code. Conversely, every doubly even code produces a possible topology of an Adinkra. A computation of doubly even codes results in an enumeration of these Adinkra topologies up to N=28, and for minimal supermultiplets, up to N=32.

Normal functions, Picard-Fuchs equations, and elliptic fibrations on K3 surfaces
Abstract: Using Gauss-Manin derivatives of normal functions, we arrive at some remarkable results on the non-triviality of the transcendental regulator for $K_m$ of a very general projective algebraic manifold. Our strongest results are for the transcendental regulator for $K_1$ of a very general $K3$ surface. We also construct an explicit family of $K_1$ cycles on $H \oplus E_8 \oplus E_8$-polarized $K3$ s… ▽ More

Lattice Polarized K3 Surfaces and Siegel Modular Forms
Abstract: The goal of the present paper is two-fold. First, we present a classification of algebraic K3 surfaces polarized by the lattice H+E_8+E_7. Key ingredients for this classification are: a normal form for these lattice polarized K3 surfaces, a coarse moduli space and an explicit description of the inverse period map in terms of Siegel modular forms. Second, we give explicit formulas for a Hodge corre… ▽ More

Note on a Geometric Isogeny of K3 Surfaces
Abstract: The paper establishes a correspondence relating two specific classes of complex algebraic K3 surfaces. The first class consists of K3 surfaces polarized by the rank-sixteen lattice H+E_7+E_7. The second class consists of K3 surfaces obtained as minimal resolutions of double covers of the projective plane branched over a configuration of six lines. The correspondence underlies a geometric two-isoge… ▽ More

Closed form expressions for Hodge numbers of complete intersection Calabi-Yau threefolds in toric varieties
Abstract: We use Batyrev-Borisov's formula for the generating function of stringy Hodge numbers of Calabi-Yau varieties realized as complete intersections in toric varieties in order to get closed form expressions for Hodge numbers of Calabi-Yau threefolds in five-dimensional ambient spaces. These expressions involve counts of lattice points on faces of associated Cayley polytopes. Using the same techniques… ▽ More

Tensions and Luscher Terms for (2+1)-dimensional k-strings from Holographic Models
Abstract: The leading term for the energy of a bound state of k-quarks and k-antiquarks is proportional to its separation L. These k-string configurations have a Luscher term associated with their quantum fluctuations which is typically a 1/L correction to the energy. We review the status of tensions and Luscher terms in the context of lattice gauge theory, Hamiltonian methods, and gauge/gravity correspon… ▽ More

A Superfield for Every Dash-Chromotopology
Abstract: The recent classification scheme of so-called adinkraic off-shell supermultiplets of N-extended worldline supersymmetry without central charges finds a combinatorial explosion. Completing our earlier efforts, we now complete the constructive proof that all of these trillions or more of supermultiplets have a superfield representation. While different as superfields and supermultiplets, these are… ▽ More

Adinkras for Clifford Algebras, and Worldline Supermultiplets
Abstract: Adinkras are a graphical depiction of representations of the N-extended supersymmetry algebra in one dimension, on the worldline. These diagrams represent the component fields in a supermultiplet as vertices, and the action of the supersymmetry generators as edges. In a previous work, we showed that the chromotopology (topology with colors) of an Adinkra must come from a doubly even binary linea… ▽ More

Frames for supersymmetry
Abstract: We explain how the redefinitions of supermultiplet component fields, comprising what we call "frame shifts", can be used in conjuction with the graphical technology of multiplet Adkinras to render manifest the reducibility of off-shell representations of supersymmetry. This technology speaks to possibility of organizing multiplet constraints in a way which complements and extends the possibiliti… ▽ More

Algebraic K-theory of toric hypersurfaces
Abstract: We construct classes in the motivic cohomology of certain 1-parameter families of Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces in toric Fano n-folds, with applications to local mirror symmetry (growth of genus 0 instanton numbers) and inhomogeneous Picard-Fuchs equations. In the case where the family is classically modular the classes are related to Belinson's Eisenstein symbol; the Abel-Jacobi map (or rational reg… ▽ More
