Compact torus injection is considered as a high promising approach to realize central fueling in the future tokamak device. Recently, a compact torus injection system has been developed for the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak, and the preliminary results have been carried out. In the typical discharges of the early stage, the velocity, electron density and particles number of the CT can reach 56.0 km/s, 8.73*10^20 m^(-3) and 2.4*10^18 (for helium), respectively. A continuous increase in CT density during acceleration was observed in the experiment, which may be due to the plasma ionized in the formation region may carry part of the neutral gas into the acceleration region, and these neutral gases will be ionized again. In addition, a significant plasma rotation is observed during the formation process which is introduced by the E*B drift. In this paper, we present the detailed system setup and the preliminary platform test results, ho** to provide some basis for the exploration of the CT technique medium-sized superconducting tokamak device in the future

Abstract:
We report a plasma-based strong THz source generated by using intense femtosecond laser pulses to irradiate solid targets at relativistic intensity >10^18W/cm2. Energies up to 50 microJ/sr per THz pulse is observed in the specular direction when the laser pulses are incident onto a copper foil at 67.5 degree. The source appears to be linearly polarized. The temporal, spectral properties of the THz…

The temporal, spectral properties of the THz are measured by a single shot, electro-optic sampling method with a chirped laser pulse. The THz radiation is attributed to the self-organized transient fast electron currents formed along the target surface. Such a strong THz source allows potential applications in THz nonlinear physics.

Abstract:
Rich soft X-ray emission lines of highly charged silicon ions (Si VI--Si XII) were observed by irradiating an ultra-intense laser pulse with width of 200 fs and energy of $\sim$90 mJ on the solid silicon target. The high resolution spectra of highly charged silicon ions with full-width at half maximum (FWHM) of $\sim$0.3--0.4Åis analyzed in wavelength range of 40--90 Å. The wavelengths of 53 pro…

The wavelengths of 53 prominent lines are determined with statistical uncertainties being up to 0.005 Å. Collisional-radiative models were constructed for Si VI -- Si XII ions, which satisfactorily reproduces the experimental spectra, and helps the line identification. Calculations at different electron densities reveal that the spectra of dense plasmas are more complicate than the spectra of thin plasmas. A comparison with the Kelly database reveals a good agreement for most peak intensities, and differences for a few emission lines.

We studied the hard x-ray emission and the K-alpha x-ray conversion efficiency produced by 60 fs high contrast frequency doubled Ti: sapphire laser pulse focused on Cu foil target. Cu K-alpha photon emission obtained with second harmonic laser pulse is more intense than the case of fundamental laser pulse. The Cu K-alpha conversion efficiency shows strong dependence on laser nonlinearly skewed pulse shape and reaches the maximum value 4x10-4 with 100 fs negatively skewed pulse. It shows the electron spectrum sha** contribute to the increase of conversion efficiency. Particle-in-cell simulations demonstrates that the application of high contrast laser pulses will be an effective method to optimize the x-ray emission, via the Enhanced Vacuum Heating mechanism.
