Three parameterizations DOPS1, DOPS2, and DOPS3 (named after the Department of Physics Shimla) of the Relativistic Mean Field (RMF) model have been proposed with the inclusion of all possible self and mixed interactions between the scalar-isoscalar (σ), vector-isoscalar (ω) and vector-isovector (ρ) mesons up to quartic order. The generated parameter sets are in harmony with the finite and bulk nuclear matter properties.
A set of Equations of State (EOSs) composed of pure hadronic (nucleonic) matter and nucleonic with quark matter (hybrid EOSs) for superdense hadron-quark matter in β-equilibrium is obtained. The quark matter phase is calculated by using the three-flavor Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model. The maximum mass of a non-rotating neutron star with DOPS1 parameterization is found to be around 2.6 M$\odot$ for the pure nucleonic matter which satisfies the recent gravitational wave analysis of GW190814 Abbott et al.,(2020) with possible maximum mass constraint indicating that the secondary component of GW190814 could be a non-rotating heaviest neutron star composed of pure nucleonic matter. EOSs computed with the DOPS2 and DOPS3 parameterizations satisfy the X-Ray observational data and the recent observations of GW170817 maximum mass constraint of a stable non-rotating neutron star in the range 2.01 \pm 0.04 - 2.16 \pm 0.03 M\odot and also in good agreement with constraints on mass and radius measurement for PSR J0740+6620 (NICER) Riley et al., L27 (2021)}, Miller et al., (2021). The hybrid EOSs obtained with the NJL model also satisfy astrophysical constraints on the maximum mass of a neutron star from PSR J1614-2230 and Demorest et al., (2010) .We also present the results for dimensionless tidal deformability, $Λ$ which are consistent with the waveform models analysis of GW170817.

In the present work, we constrain the equation of the state of dense matter in the context of heaviest observed neutron star mass M$_{max}$ = 2.35$\pm 0.17$ M$_{\odot}$ for the black widow pulsar PSR J0952-0607. We propose three interactions HPU1, HPU2 and HPU3 (named after Himachal Pradesh University)for the relativistic mean field model which include different combinations of non-linear, self and cross-couplings among isoscalar-scalar $σ$, isoscalar-vector $ω$ and isovector-vector $ρ$ meson fields up to the quartic order. These interactions are in harmony with the finite nuclei and bulk nuclear matter properties. The equations of state computed by using newly generated interactions for the $β$-equilibrated nucleonic matter satisfy the heaviest observed neutron star mass M$_{max}$ = 2.35$\pm 0.17$ M$_{\odot}$ for the black widow pulsar PSR J0952-0607. The results for the radius ($R_{1.4}$) and dimensionless tidal deformability (${Λ_{1.4}}$) corresponding to the canonical mass are also presented and agree well with the GW170817 event and astrophysical observations. The radius of $2.08M_{\odot}$ neutron star mass is predicted to be in the range $R_{2.08}$ = 12.98 -13.09 Km which also satisfies the NICER observations by Miller et al. (2021) and Riley et al.(2021). A covariance analysis is also performed to assess the theoretical uncertainties of model parameters and to determine their correlations with nuclear matter observables.

The bulk properties of nuclear matter and neutron stars with the newly generated relativistic interaction DBHP are investigated which provides an opportunity to modify the coupling parameters kee** in view the finite nuclei, nuclear matter, PREX-II data for neutron skin thickness in $^{208}$Pb and astrophysical constraints. The relativistic interaction has been generated by including all possible self and mixed interactions between $σ$, $ω$, and $ρ$-meson up to the quartic order satisfying the naturalness behavior of parameters. A covariance analysis is performed to assess the statistical uncertainties on the model parameters and observables of interest along with correlations amongst them. We obtained a value of neutron skin thickness for $^{208}$Pb nucleus $Δr_{np}$ = 0.24 $\pm$ 0.02 fm. The maximum gravitational mass of neutron star and radius corresponding to the canonical mass ($R_{1.4}$) come out to be 2.03 $\pm$ 0.04 M$\odot$ and 13.39 $\pm$ 0.41 km respectively. The dimensionless tidal deformability, $Λ$ for a neutron star is also analyzed.

We investigate the implications of parity-violating electron scattering experiment on neutron skin thickness of $^{48}$Ca (CREX) and $^{208}$Pb (PREX-II) data on the bulk properties of finite nuclei, nuclear matter, and neutron stars. The neutron skin thickness from the CREX and PREX-II data is employed to constrain the parameters of relativistic mean field models which includes different non-linear, self and cross-couplings among isoscalar-scalar $σ$, isoscalar-vector $ω$, isovector-scalar $δ$ and isovector-vector $ρ$ meson fields up to the quartic order. Three parametrizations of RMF model are proposed by fitting CREX, PREX-II and both CREX as well as PREX-II data to assess their implications. A covariance analysis is performed to assess the theoretical uncertainties of model parameters and nuclear matter observables along with correlations among them. The RMF model parametrization obtained with the CREX data acquires much smaller value of symmetry energy (J= 28.97$\pm$ 0.99 MeV), its slope parameter (L= 30.61$\pm 6.74$ MeV) in comparison to those obtained with PREX-II data. The neutron star properties are studied by employing the equations of state (EoSs) composed of nucleons and leptons in $β$ equilibrium.

The effects of the isovector-scalar $δ$-meson field on the properties of finite nuclei, infinite nuclear matter and neutron stars are investigated within the Relativistic Mean Field (RMF) model which includes non-linear couplings. Several parameter sets (SRV's) are generated to asses the influence of $δ$-meson on the properties of neutron star. These parametrizations correspond to different values of coupling constant of $δ$-meson to the nucleons with remaining ones calibrated to yield finite nuclei and infinite nuclear matter properties consistent with the available experimental data. It is observed that to fit the properties of finite nuclei and infinite nuclear matter, a stronger coupling between isovector-vector $ρ$ meson and nucleons is required in the presence of $δ$ field. Furthermore, the $δ$-meson is found to affect the radius of canonical neutron star significantly. The value of dimensionless tidal deformability, $Λ$ for the canonical neutron star also satisfies the constraints from the waveform models analysis of GW170817 binary neutron star merger event. A covariance analysis is performed to estimate the statistical uncertainties of the model parameters as well as correlations among the model parameters and different observables of interest.

Efforts are underway to set up an underground laboratory in India for rare event studies like double beta decay, dark matter, etc. For such experiments, mitigation of radiation background is of paramount importance and understanding ambient background at the site, originating from the rock, is one of the crucial factors. With this motivation, the radiopurity studies of a rock sample from the potential laboratory site in the Aut tunnel of Himachal Pradesh (India) have been carried out using the TIFR low background experimental setup (TiLES). The concentration of $^{40}$K in Aut rock is observed to be lower by a factor of ~1000 as compared to the samples from BWH (Bodi West Hill), Tamil Nadu (India), current designated site for India-based Neutrino Observatory. The natural radioactive trace impurity $^{232}$Th is lower in the Aut rock, while $^{238}$U is somewhat higher than the BWH rock. Overall, the ambient gamma ray background at Aut is expected to be lower than the BWH, while ambient neutron background is expected to be similar. Further, to assess the neutron-induced long lived activity, fast neutron activation studies have been carried out on the both Aut and BWH rock samples at the Pelletron Linac Facility, Mumbai.

The results for rms deviation in binding energies, two-neutron separation energy, the differential variation of two-neutron separation energy, and rms charge radii, as a function of neutron number, are presented and compared with available experimental data. In addition to the oblate-prolate shape coexistence in $^{96-110}$Zr isotopes, the correlation between shape transition and discontinuity in the observables are also examined. A smooth trend of charge radii in Mo isotopes is found to be due to the manifestation of triaxiality softness. The observed oblate and prolate minima are related to the low single-particle energy level density around the Fermi level of neutron and proton respectively. The present calculations also predict a deformed bubble structure in $^{100}$Zr isotope.

We investigate the possible sequels, for the hybrid compact stars consisting of nucleons, hyperons and three flavour color-flavor-locked quarks phase under global neutrality and chemical equilibrium conditions. The hadron equations of state are computed within the framework of energy density functionals based on the relativistic mean field theory by employing two different model parameterizations. The quarks matter phase of equation of state is computed by using Quarks Quasiparticle model derived from a non-relativistic energy density-functional approach. A plausible set of hybrid equations of state for superdense hadron-quarks matter is obtained and, which satisfies the constraints provided by bulk nuclear matter, the observational data of frequencies and maximum Gravitational mass 2$M_\odot$ with their extracted radii, Keplerian limits, secular axisymmetric instability and limits of tidal deformabilities from GW170817 binary neutron stars (BNS) merger. We obtained structural properties of nonrotating and rotating compact stars, the evolutionary sequences with constant baryonic mass star spinning down by electromagnetic and gravitational radiations and, discuss the issues relating to phase transition from hadrons to quarks matter phase. The internal structure of rotating star with observed spin down frequencies, exhibiting shrinkage of soft quarks core of compact stars are discussed for constant baryonic mass. We present the theoretically computed limits of radii for the spin down configurations of hybrid stars corresponding to the recently observed millisecond pulsars. We also present and discuss the calculated results for tidal deformability, $Λ$ and tidal parameters $Λ_1$, $Λ_2$ of non spining hybrid star which are consistent with the waveform model analysis of GW170817 BNS.

The effect of temperature and density dependence of the asymmetric nuclear matter properties is studied within the extended relativistic mean field (ERMF) model, which includes the contribution from the self and mixed interaction terms by using different parametrizations obtained by varying the neutron skin thickness $Δ$r and $ω$-meson self-coupling ($ζ$). We observed that the symmetry energy and its slope and incompressibility coefficients decrease with increasing temperatures up to saturation densities. The ERMF parametrizations were employed to obtain a new set of equations of state (EOS) of the protoneutron star (PNS) with and without inclusion of hyperons. In our calculations, in comparison with cold compact stars, we obtained that the gravitational mass of the protoneutron star with and without hyperons increased by $\sim 0.4M_{\odot}$ and its radius increased by $\sim 3$km. Whereas in case of the rotating PNS, the mass shedding limit decreased with increasing temperature, and this suggested that the keplerian frequency of the PNS, at T = 10 MeV should be smaller by $14-20%$ for the EOS with hyperon, as compared to the keplerian frequency of a cold compact star.

We investigate the properties of the single Lambda hypernuclei within a Skyrme-Hartree-Fock (SHF) model. The parameters of the Skyrme type effective lambda-nucleon (Lambda N) interaction are obtained by fitting to the experimental Lambda binding energies of hypernuclei with masses spanning a wide range of the periodic table. Alternative parameter sets are also obtained by omitting nuclei below mass number 16 from the fitting procedure. The SHF calculations are performed for the binding energies of the Lambda single-particle states over a full mass range using the best fit parameter sets obtained in these fitting procedures and the results are compared with the available experimental data. The data show some sensitivity to the parameter sets obtained with or without including the nuclei below mass 16. The radii of the Lambda orbits in the hypernuclear ground states and the Lambda effective mass in nuclear matter show some dependence on different parameter sets. We present results for the total binding energy per baryon of the hypernuclei over a large mass region to elucidate their stability as a function of the baryon number. We have also employed the our best fit Lambda N parameter sets to investigate the role of hyperons in some key properties of neutron stars.

We construct static and mass-shedding limit sequences of hybrid stars, composed of colour flavour locked (CFL) quark matter core, for a set of equations of state (EOSs). The EOS for the hadronic matter is obtained using appropriately calibrated extended field theoretical based relativistic mean-field model. The MIT bag model is employed to compute the EOSs of the CFL quark matter for different values of the CFL gap parameter in the range of $50 - 150\text{MeV}$ with the deconfinement phase transition density ranging from $4ρ_0 - 6ρ_0$ ($ρ_0 = 0.16\text{fm}^{-3}$). We find, depending on the values of the CFL gap parameter and the deconfinement phase transition density, the sequences of stable configurations of hybrid stars either form third families of the compact stars or bifurcate from the hadronic sequence. The hybrid stars have masses $1.0 - 2.1 M_\odot$ with radii $9 - 13.5$ km. The maximum values of mass shedding limit frequency for such hybrid stars are $1 -2$ kHz. For the smaller values of the CFL gap parameter and the deconfinement phase transition density, mass-radius relationships are in harmony with those deduced by applying improved hydrogen atmosphere model to fit the high quality spectra from compact star X7 in the globular cluster 47 Tucanae. We observed for some cases that the third family of compact stars exist in the static sequence, but, disappear from the mass-shedding limit sequence. Our investigation suggests that the third family of compact stars in the mass-shedding limit sequence is more likely to appear, provided they have maximum mass in the static limit higher than their second family counterpart composed of pure hadronic matter.

Correlations in the properties of the static compact stars (CSs) and the ones rotating with the highest observed frequency of 1122Hz are studied using a large set of equations of state (EOSs). These EOSs span various approaches and their chemical composition vary from the nucleons to hyperons and quarks in $β$-equilibrium. It is found that the properties of static CS, like, the maximum gravitational mass $M_{\rm max}^{\rm stat}$ and radius $R_{1.4}^{\rm stat}$ corresponding to t he canonical mass and supramassive or non-supramassive nature of the CS rotating at 1122 Hz are strongly correlated. In particular, only those EOSs yield the CS rotating at 1122Hz to be non-supramassive for which $\left (\frac{M_{\rm max}^{\rm stat}}{M_\odot}\right )^{1/2} \left (\frac{10{\rm km}}{R_{1.4}^{\rm stat}})^{3/2} $ is greater than unity. Suitable parametric form which can be used to split the $M_{\rm max}^{\rm stat}$ $-$ $R_{1.4}^{\rm stat}$ plane into the regions of different supramassive nature of the CS rotating at 1122Hz is presented. Currently measured maximum gravitational mass 1.76$M_\odot$ of PSR J0437-4715 suggests that the CS rotating at 1122Hz can be non-supramassive provided $R_{1.4}^{\rm stat} \leqslant 12.4$ km.

The high density behaviour for these EOSs are varied by varying the $ω-$meson self-coupling and hyperon-meson couplings in such a way that the quality of fit to the bulk nuclear observables, nuclear matter incompressibility coefficient and hyperon-nucleon potential depths remain practically unaffected. We find that the largest value for maximum mass for the non-rotating neutron star is $2.1M_\odot$. The radius for the neutron star with canonical mass is $12.8 - 14.1$ km provided only those EOSs are considered for which maximum mass is larger than $1.6M_\odot$ as it is the lower bound on the maximum mass measured so far. Our results for the very recently discovered fastest rotating neutron star indicate that this star is supra massive with mass $1.7 - 2.7M_\odot$ and circumferential equatorial radius $12 - 19$ km.

The effects of $ω$ meson self-coupling (OMSC) on the properties of finite nuclei and neutron stars are investigated within the framework of effective field theory based relativistic mean-field (ERMF) model which includes the contributions from all possible mixed interactions between the scalar-isoscalar ($σ$), vector-isoscalar ($ω$) and vector-isovector ($ρ$) mesons upto the quartic order. For a realistic investigation, several parameter sets corresponding to different values of OMSC are generated by adjusting the remaining parameters of the ERMF model to fit the properties of the finite nuclei. Though, all these parameter sets give equally good fit to the properties of the finite nuclei, only moderate values of OMSC are favored from the "naturalness" point of view. The equation of state for the symmetric nuclear and pure neutron matters resulting from the parameter sets with the moderate values of OMSC are in close agreement with the ones obtained within the Dirac-Brueckner-Hartree-Fock approximation. For such parameter sets the limiting mass for the neutron stars composed of $β$-stable matter is $\sim 1.9M_\odot$. It is found that the direct Urca process can occur in the neutron stars with "canonical" mass of $1.4M_\odot$ only for the moderate and higher values of OMSC. Some other interesting properties for the neutron stars are also discussed.

We parameterize the recently proposed generalized Skyrme effective force (GSEF) containing extended density dependence. The parameters of the GSEF are determined by the fit to several properties of the normal and isospin-rich nuclei. We also include in our fit a realistic equation of state for the pure neutron matter up to high densities so that the resulting Skyrme parameters can be suitably used to model the neutron star with the "canonical" mass ($\sim 1.4 M_\odot$). For the appropriate comparison we generate a parameter set for the standard Skyrme effective force (SSEF) using exactly the same set of the data as employed to determine the parameters of the GSEF. We find that the GSEF yields larger values for the neutron skin thickness which are closer to the recent predictions based on the isospin diffusion data. The Skyrme parameters so obtained are employed to compute the strength function for the isoscalar giant monopole, dipole and quadrupole resonances. It is found that in the case of GSEF, due to the the larger value of the nucleon effective mass the values of centroid energies for the isoscalar giant resonances are in better agreement with the corresponding experimental data in comparison to those obtained using the SSEF. We also present results for some of the key properties associated with the neutron star of "canonical" mass and for the one with the maximum mass.

Angular distribution measurements of $^2$H($^7$Be,$^7$Be)$^2$H and $^2$H($^7$Be,$^8$B)$n$ reactions at $E_{c.m.}\sim$~4.5 MeV were performed to extract the astrophysical $S_{17}(0)$ factor using the asymptotic normalization coefficient (ANC) method. For this purpose a pure, low emittance $^7$Be beam was separated from the primary $^7$Li beam by a recoil mass spectrometer operated in a novel mode. A beam stopper at 0$^{\circ}$ allowed the use of a higher $^7$Be beam intensity. Measurement of the elastic scattering in the entrance channel using kinematic coincidence, facilitated the determination of the optical model parameters needed for the analysis of the transfer data. The present measurement significantly reduces errors in the extracted $^7$Be(p,$γ$) cross section using the ANC method. We get $S_{17}$~(0)~=~20.7~$\pm$~2.4 eV~b.

We investigate the ground state structure of $^8$B within the Skyrme Hartree-Fock framework where spin-orbit part of the effective interaction is adjusted to reproduce the one-proton separation energy of this nucleus. Using same set of force parameters, binding energies and root mean square radii of other light p-shell unstable nuclei, $^8$Li, $^7$B,$^7$Be, and $^9$C, have been calculated where a good agreement with corresponding experimental data is obtained. The overlap integral of $^8$B and $^7$Be wave functions has been used to determine the root mean square radius of the single proton in a particular orbit and also the astrophysical S factor ($S_{17}$) for the $^{7}$Be($p, γ)^{8}$B radiative capture reaction. It is found that the asymptotic region (distances beyond 4 fm) of the p-shell single proton wave function contributes more than half to the calculated value (4.93 fm) of the corresponding single particle root mean square radius. We determine a $S_{17}$ 21.1 eV.b which is in good agreement with the recommended value for near zero energy $S_{17}$ of $19.0^{+4.0}_{-1.0}$ eV.b.
