Emergency vehicles (EMVs) play a critical role in a city's response to time-critical events such as medical emergencies and fire outbreaks. The existing approaches to reduce EMV travel time employ route optimization and traffic signal pre-emption without accounting for the coupling between route these two subproblems. As a result, the planned route often becomes suboptimal. In addition, these approaches also do not focus on minimizing disruption to the overall traffic flow. To address these issues, we introduce EMVLight in this paper. This is a decentralized reinforcement learning (RL) framework for simultaneous dynamic routing and traffic signal control. EMVLight extends Dijkstra's algorithm to efficiently update the optimal route for an EMV in real-time as it travels through the traffic network. Consequently, the decentralized RL agents learn network-level cooperative traffic signal phase strategies that reduce EMV travel time and the average travel time of non-EMVs in the network. We have carried out comprehensive experiments with synthetic and real-world maps to demonstrate this benefit. Our results show that EMVLight outperforms benchmark transportation engineering techniques as well as existing RL-based traffic signal control methods.

We illustrate the geometric phase associated with the cyclic dynamics of a classical system of coupled oscillators. We use an analogy between a classical coupled oscillator and a two-state quantum mechanical system to represent the evolution of the oscillator on an equivalent Hilbert space, which may be represented as a trajectory on the surface of a sphere. The cyclic evolution of the system leads to a change in phase, which consists of a dynamic phase along with an additional phase shift dependent on the geometry of the evolution. A simple experiment suitable for advanced undergraduate students is designed to study the geometric phase incurred during cyclic evolution of a coupled oscillator.

We study the Magnus transport in a gapped 2D electron gas with Rashba spin-orbit coupling using semiclassical Boltzmann transport formalism. Apart from its signature in the charge transport coefficients, the inclusion of Magnus velocity in the spin current operator enables us to study Magnus spin transport in the system. In particular, we study the roles of mass gap and Fermi surface topology on the behavior of Magnus Hall and Nernst conductivities and their spin counterparts. We find that the Magnus spin Hall conductivity vanishes in the limit of zero gap, unlike the universal spin Hall conductivity $σ_s=e/(8π)$. The Magnus spin currents with spin polarization perpendicular to the applied bias (electrical/thermal) are finite while with polarization along the bias vanishes. Each Magnus conductivity displays a plateau as Fermi energy sweeps through the gap and has peaks (whose magnitudes decrease with the gap) when the Fermi energy is at the gap edges.

Many astrophysical analyses depend on estimates of redshifts (a proxy for distance) determined from photometric (i.e., imaging) data alone. Inaccurate estimates of photometric redshift uncertainties can result in large systematic errors. However, probability distribution outputs from many photometric redshift methods do not follow the frequentist definition of a Probability Density Function (PDF) for redshift -- i.e., the fraction of times the true redshift falls between two limits $z_{1}$ and $z_{2}$ should be equal to the integral of the PDF between these limits. Previous works have used the global distribution of Probability Integral Transform (PIT) values to re-calibrate PDFs, but offsetting inaccuracies in different regions of feature space can conspire to limit the efficacy of the method. We leverage a recently developed regression technique that characterizes the local PIT distribution at any location in feature space to perform a local re-calibration of photometric redshift PDFs. Though we focus on an example from astrophysics, our method can produce PDFs which are calibrated at all locations in feature space for any use case.

Abstract:
Triple-component fermions are pseudospin-1 quasiparticles hosted by certain three-band semimetals in the vicinity of their band-touching nodes [Phys. Rev. B {\bf 100}, 235201 (2019)]. The excitations comprise of a flat band and two dispersive bands. In this work, we obtain the exact expression of Berry curvature, approximate form of density of states and Fermi energy as a function of carrier density for any value of $n$. In particular, we study the Berry curvature induced electrical and thermal magnetotransport properties of quadratic $(n=2)$ triple-component fermions using semiclassical Boltzmann transport formalism. Since the energy spectrum is anisotropic, we consider two orientations of magnetic field (${\bf B}$): (i) ${\bf B}$ applied in the $x$-$y$ plane and (ii) ${\bf B}$ applied in the $x$-$z$ plane. For both the orientations, the longitudinal and planar magnetoelectric/magnetothermal conductivities show the usual quadratic-$B$ dependence and oscillatory behaviour with respect to the angle between the applied electric field/temperature gradient and magnetic field as observed in other topological semimetals. However, the out-of-plane magnetoconductivity has an oscillatory dependence on angle between the applied fields for the second orientation but is angle-independent for the first one. We observe large differences in the magnitudes of transport coefficients for the two orientations at a given Fermi energy. A noteworthy feature of quadratic triple-component fermions which is typically absent in conventional systems is that certain transport coefficients and their ratios are independent of Fermi energy within the low-energy model.

In the first, a Higgs-like boson with mass from 30 to 200 GeV is produced by gluon fusion and decays into two LLPs. The analysis covers LLP mass values from 10 GeV up to about one half the Higgs-like boson mass. The second LLP production mode is directly from quark interactions, with LLP masses from 10 to 90 GeV. The LLP lifetimes considered range from 5 to 200 ps. This study uses LHCb data collected from proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s)=13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 1/fb. No evidence of these long-lived states has been observed, and upper limits on the production cross-section times branching ratio have been set for each model considered.

Two narrow resonant states are observed in the ${\itΛ}_b^0 K^-π^+$ mass spectrum using a data sample of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13$~\rm TeV$, collected by the LHCb experiment and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $6~{\rm fb}^{-1}$. The minimal quark content of the ${\itΛ}_b^0 K^-π^+$ system indicates that these are excited ${\itΞ}_b^0$ baryons. The masses of the ${\itΞ}_b(6327)^0$ and ${\itΞ}_b(6333)^0$ states are $m({\itΞ}_b(6327)^0) = 6327.28 ^{\,+\,0.23}_{\,-\,0.21} \pm 0.12 \pm 0.24~{\rm MeV}$ and $m({\itΞ}_b(6333)^0) = 6332.69 ^{\,+\,0.17}_{\,-\,0.18} \pm 0.03 \pm 0.22~{\rm MeV}$, respectively, with a mass splitting of $Δm = 5.41 ^{\,+\,0.26}_{\,-\,0.27} \pm 0.12 ~{\rm MeV}$, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic and due to the ${\itΛ}_b^0$ mass measurement. The measured natural widths of these states are consistent with zero, with upper limits of $Γ({\itΞ}_b(6327)^0)<2.20~(2.56) ~{\rm MeV}$ and $Γ({\itΞ}_b(6333)^0)<1.60~(1.92) ~{\rm MeV}$ at a $90\%~(95\%)$ credibility level. The significance of the two-peak hypothesis is larger than nine (five) Gaussian standard deviations compared to the no-peak (one-peak) hypothesis. The masses, widths and resonant structure of the new states are in good agreement with the expectations for a doublet of 1$D$ ${\itΞ}_b^0$ resonances.

A combination of measurements sensitive to the $CP$ violation angle $γ$ of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa unitarity triangle and to the charm mixing parameters that describe oscillations between $D^0$ and $\bar{D}^0$ mesons is performed. Results from the charm and beauty sectors, based on data collected with the LHCb detector at CERN's Large Hadron Collider, are combined for the first time. This method provides an improvement on the precision of the charm mixing parameter $y$ by a factor of two with respect to the current world average. The charm mixing parameters are determined to be $x = (0.400^{\,+0.052}_{\,-0.053})\%$ and $y = (0.630^{\,+0.033}_{\,-0.030})\%$. The angle $γ$ is found to be $γ= (65.4^{\,+3.8}_{\,-4.2})^\circ$ and is the most precise determination from a single experiment.

The abundance of about half of the stable nuclei heavier than iron via the rapid neutron capture process or $r$-process is intimately related to the competition between neutron capture and $β$-decay rates, which ultimately depends on the binding energy of neutron-rich nuclei. The well-known Bethe-Weizsäcker semi-empirical mass formula\cite{weiz,bethe} describes the binding energy of ground states -- i.e. nuclei with temperatures of $T\approx0$ MeV -- with the symmetry energy parameter converging between $23-27$ MeV for heavy nuclei. Here we find an unexpected enhancement of the symmetry energy at higher temperatures, $T\approx0.7-1.0$ MeV, from the available data of giant dipole resonances built on excited states. Although these are likely the temperatures where seed elements are created -- during the cooling down of the ejecta following neutron-star mergers\cite{mergersnucleo} or collapsars\cite{collapsar} -- the fact that the symmetry energy remains constant between $T\approx0.7-1.0$ MeV, suggests a similar trend down to $T\approx0.5$ MeV, where neutron-capture may start occurring. Calculations using this relatively larger symmetry energy yield a reduction of the binding energy per nucleon for heavy neutron-rich nuclei and inhibits radiative neutron-capture rates. This results in a substantial close in of the neutron dripline -- where nuclei become unbound -- which elucidates the long sought universality of heavy-element abundances through the $r$-process; as inferred from the similar abundances found in extremely metal-poor stars and the Sun.

The ratios of the prompt and nonprompt $χ_{c1}(3872)$ to $ψ(2S)$ production cross-sections are measured as a function of transverse momentum, $p_{\rm T}$, and rapidity, $y$, in the kinematic range $4 < p_{\rm T} < 20$ GeV/$c$ and $2.0 < y < 4.5$. The prompt ratio is found to increase with $p_{\rm T}$ independently of $y$. The double-differential cross-section ratio of $χ_{c1}(3872)$ relative to $ψ(2S)$ mesons between 13 and 8 TeV is also measured for the prompt component and observed to be consistent with unity, independent of $p_{\rm T}$ and centre-of-mass energy.

Emergency vehicles (EMVs) play a crucial role in responding to time-critical events such as medical emergencies and fire outbreaks in an urban area. The less time EMVs spend traveling through the traffic, the more likely it would help save people's lives and reduce property loss. To reduce the travel time of EMVs, prior work has used route optimization based on historical traffic-flow data and traffic signal pre-emption based on the optimal route. However, traffic signal pre-emption dynamically changes the traffic flow which, in turn, modifies the optimal route of an EMV. In addition, traffic signal pre-emption practices usually lead to significant disturbances in traffic flow and subsequently increase the travel time for non-EMVs. In this paper, we propose EMVLight, a decentralized reinforcement learning (RL) framework for simultaneous dynamic routing and traffic signal control. EMVLight extends Dijkstra's algorithm to efficiently update the optimal route for the EMVs in real time as it travels through the traffic network. The decentralized RL agents learn network-level cooperative traffic signal phase strategies that not only reduce EMV travel time but also reduce the average travel time of non-EMVs in the network. This benefit has been demonstrated through comprehensive experiments with synthetic and real-world maps. These experiments show that EMVLight outperforms benchmark transportation engineering techniques and existing RL-based signal control methods.

We investigate the density and optical responses of a linear triple component fermionic system in both non-interacting and interacting regimes by computing its dynamical polarization function, RPA dielectric function, plasmon mode and long wavelength optical conductivity and compare the results with those of Weyl fermions and three-dimensional free electron gas. Linear triple component fermions are pseudospin-1 generalization of Weyl fermions, consisting of two linearly dispersive bands and a flat band. The presence of flat band brings about notable modifications in the response properties with respect to Weyl fermions such as induction of a new region in the particle-hole continuum, increased static polarization, reduced plasmon gap, shift in absorption edge, enhanced rate of increase in energy absorption with frequency and highly suppressed intercone transitions in the long wavelength limit. The plasmon dispersion follows the usual $ω\sim ω_0+ ω_1 q^2$ nature as observed in other three-dimensional systems.

The latter process is expected to be suppressed relative to the former, and is observed for the first time. The ratio of branching fractions of the two decays is measured, and the $C\!P$ asymmetry of the suppressed mode, which is sensitive to the CKM angle $γ$, is also reported.

We evaluate out of time ordered correlators in certain low dimensional quantum systems at zero temperature, subjected to homogenous quantum quenches. We find that when the Lyapunov exponent exists, it can be identified with the quenched energy. We show that the exponent naturally gets related to the post-quench effective temperature. In the context of sudden quenches the exponent is determined in terms of the quench amplitude while for smooth quenches we observe scalings (both the Kibble-Zurek as well as the fast) of the exponent with the quench rate. The scalings are identical to that of the energy generated during the quench.

The $Ω^{0}_{c}$ and $Ξ^{0}_{c}$ baryons are produced directly from proton interactions and reconstructed in the $pK^{-}K^{-}π^{+}$ final state. The $Ω^{0}_{c}$ lifetime is measured to be $276.5\pm13.4\pm4.4\pm0.7\text{ fs}$, and the $Ξ^{0}_{c}$ lifetime is measured to be $148.0\pm2.3\pm2.2\pm0.2\text{ fs}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third due to the uncertainty on the $D^{0}$ lifetime. These results confirm previous LHCb measurements based on semileptonic beauty-hadron decays, which disagree with earlier results of a four times shorter $Ω^{0}_{c}$ lifetime, and provide the single most precise measurement of the $Ω^{0}_{c}$ lifetime.

With a simultaneous fit of the muon $q/p_T$ distribution of a sample of $W \to μν$ decays and the $φ^*$ distribution of a sample of $Z\toμμ$ decays the $W$ boson mass is determined to be \begin{equation*} m_{W} = 80354 \pm 23_{\rm stat} \pm 10_{\rm exp} \pm 17_{\rm theory} \pm 9_{\rm PDF}~\mathrm{MeV}, \end{equation*} where uncertainties correspond to contributions from statistical, experimental systematic, theoretical and parton distribution function sources. This is an average of results based on three recent global parton distribution function sets. The measurement agrees well with the prediction of the global electroweak fit and with previous measurements.

The state is consistent with the ground isoscalar $T^+_{cc}$ tetraquark with a quark content of $cc\bar{u}\bar{d}$ and spin-parity quantum numbers $\mathrm{J}^{\mathrm{P}}=1^+$. Study of the $DD$ mass spectra disfavours interpretation of the resonance as the isovector state. The decay structure via intermediate off-shell $D^{*+}$ mesons is confirmed by the $D^0π^+$ mass distribution. The mass of the resonance and its coupling to the $D^{*}D$ system are analysed. Resonance parameters including the pole position, scattering length, effective range and compositeness are measured to reveal important information about the nature of the $T^+_{cc}$ state. In addition, an unexpected dependence of the production rate on track multiplicity is observed.

The near threshold mass together with a strikingly narrow width reveals the resonance nature of the state.

The cross-sections are measured differentially as a function of transverse momentum, $p_{\text{T}}$, and rapidity, $y$, and separately for $J/ψ$ mesons produced promptly and from beauty hadron decays (nonprompt). With the assumption of unpolarised $J/ψ$ mesons, the production cross-sections integrated over the kinematic range $0<p_{\text{T}}<20~\text{GeV}/c$ and $2.0<y<4.5$ are $8.154\pm0.010\pm0.283~μ\text{b}$ for prompt $J/ψ$ mesons and $0.820\pm0.003\pm0.034~μ\text{b}$ for nonprompt $J/ψ$ mesons, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. These cross-sections are compared with those at $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV and $13$ TeV, and are used to update the measurement of the nuclear modification factor in proton-lead collisions for $J/ψ$ mesons at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of $\sqrt{s_{\text{NN}}}=5$ TeV. The results are compared with theoretical predictions.

The production of prompt charged particles in proton-lead collisions and in proton-proton collisions at the nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energy ${\sqrt{s_{\scriptscriptstyle\mathrm{NN}}}=5\,\mathrm{TeV}}$ is studied at LHCb as a function of pseudorapidity ($η$) and transverse momentum ($p_{\mathrm{T}}$) with respect to the proton beam direction. The nuclear modification factor for charged particles is determined as a function of $η$ between ${-4.8<η<-2.5}$ (backward region) and ${2.0<η<4.8}$ (forward region), and $p_{\mathrm{T}}$ between ${0.2<p_{\mathrm{T}}<8.0\,\mathrm{GeV}/c}$. The results show a suppression of charged particle production in proton-lead collisions relative to proton-proton collisions in the forward region and an enhancement in the backward region for $p_{\mathrm{T}}$ larger than $1.5\,\mathrm{GeV}/c$. This measurement constrains nuclear PDFs and saturation models at previously unexplored values of the parton momentum fraction down to $10^{-6}$.

This article presents differential measurements of the asymmetry between $Λ_b^0$ and $\overlineΛ_b^0$ baryon production rates in proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of $\sqrt{s}=7$ and $8\,\textrm{TeV}$ collected with the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $3\,\textrm{fb}^{-1}$. The $Λ_b^0$ baryons are reconstructed through the inclusive semileptonic decay $Λ_b^0\rightarrowΛ_c^+μ^-\overlineν_μX$. The production asymmetry is measured both in intervals of rapidity in the range $2.15<y<4.10$ and transverse momentum in $2<p_T<27\,\textrm{GeV}/c$. The results are found to be incompatible with symmetric production with a significance of 5.8 standard deviations for both $\sqrt{s}=7$ and $8\,\textrm{TeV}$ data, assuming no $C\!P$ violation in the decay. There is evidence for a trend as a function of rapidity with a significance of 4 standard deviations. Comparisons to predictions from hadronisation models in PYTHIA and heavy-quark recombination are provided. This result constitutes the first observation of a particle-antiparticle asymmetry in $b$-hadron production at LHC energies.

Four excited $Ω_c^0$ baryons are observed in the $Ξ_c^+ K^-$ mass projection of the $Ω_b^- \to Ξ_c^+ K^- π^-$ decays with the significance of each exceeding five standard deviations. They coincide with the states previously observed in prompt \proton\proton and $e^+e^-$ production. Relative production rates, masses and natural widths of the states are measured, and a test of spin hypotheses is performed. Moreover, the branching ratio of $Ω_b^- \to Ξ_c^+ K^- π^-$ is measured relative to the $Ω_b^- \to Ω_c^0 π^-$ decay mode and a precise measurement of the $Ω_b^-$ mass of \mbox{$6044.3 \pm 1.2 \pm 1.1^{\,+0.19}_{\,-0.22}\,\mathrm{MeV}$} is obtained.

We present time-resolved high energy x-ray diffraction (tr-HEXRD), time-resolved hard x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (tr-HAXPES) and time-resolved grazing incidence small angle x-ray scattering (tr-GISAXS) data of the reactive molecular beam epitaxy (RMBE) of $\mathrm{Fe_3O_4}$ ultrathin films on various substrates. Reciprocal space maps are recorded during the deposition of $\mathrm{Fe_3O_4}$ on $\mathrm{SrTiO_3(001)}$, MgO(001) and NiO/MgO(001) in order to observe the temporal evolution of Bragg reflections sensitive to the octahedral and tetrahedral sublattices of the inverse spinel structure of $\mathrm{Fe_3O_4}$. A time delay between the appearance of rock salt and spinel-exclusive reflections reveals that first, the iron oxide film grows with $\mathrm{Fe_{1-δ}O}$ rock salt structure with exclusive occupation of octahedral lattice sites. When this film is 1.1$\,$nm thick, the further growth of the iron oxide film proceeds in the inverse spinel structure, with both octahedral and tetrahedral lattice sites being occupied. In addition, iron oxide on $\mathrm{SrTiO_3(001)}$ initially grows with none of these structures. Here, the formation of the rock salt structure starts when the film is 1.5$\,$nm thick. This is confirmed by tr-HAXPES data obtained during growth of iron oxide on $\mathrm{SrTiO_3(001)}$, which demonstrate an excess of $\mathrm{Fe^{2+}}$ cations in growing films thinner than 3.2$\,$nm. This rock salt phase only appears during growth and vanishes after the supply of the Fe molecular beam is stopped. Thus, it can be concluded the rock salt structure of the interlayer is a property of the dynamic growth process. The tr-GISAXS data link these structural results to an island growth mode of the first 2-3$\,$nm on both MgO(001) and $\mathrm{SrTiO_3(001)}$ substrates.

A measurement of mixing and $C\!P$ violation in neutral charm mesons is performed using data reconstructed in proton-proton collisions collected by the LHCb experiment from 2016 to 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4$\textrm{fb}^{-1}$. A total of $30.6$ million $D^{0}\rightarrow K^{0}_{\mathrm{S}}π^{+}π^{-}$ decays are analyzed using a method optimized for the measurement of the mass difference between neutral charm-meson eigenstates. Allowing for $C\!P$ violation in mixing and in the interference between mixing and decay, the mass and decay-width differences are measured to be $x_{C\!P} = \left[3.97\pm0.46\textrm{(stat)}\pm 0.29\textrm{(syst)}\right]\times10^{-3}$ and $y_{C\!P} = \left[4.59\pm1.20\textrm{(stat)}\pm0.85\textrm{(syst)}\right]\times10^{-3}$, respectively. The $C\!P$-violating parameters are measured as $Δx = \left[-0.27\pm0.18\textrm{(stat)}\pm0.01\textrm{(syst)}\right]\times10^{-3}$ and $Δy = \left[0.20\pm0.36\textrm{(stat)}\pm0.13\textrm{(syst)}\right]\times10^{-3}$. This is the first observation of a nonzero mass difference in the $D^0$ meson system, with a significance exceeding seven standard deviations. The data are consistent with $C\!P$ symmetry, and improve existing constraints on the associated parameters.

The $D^0$ meson is required to originate from a $D^*(2010)^+ \to D^0 π^+$ decay, such that its flavour at production is identified by the charge of the accompanying pion. The slope of the time-dependent asymmetry of the decay rates of $D^0$ and $\bar{D}^0$ mesons into the final states under consideration is measured to be $ΔY_{K^+ K^-} = (-2.3 \pm 1.5 \pm 0.3) \times 10^{-4}$, $ΔY_{π^+ π^-} = (-4.0 \pm 2.8 \pm 0.4)\times 10^{-4}$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These results are compatible with the conservation of the charge-parity symmetry at the level of 2 standard deviations and improve the precision by nearly a factor of two.

Upper limits at 95% credibility level for $R$ in the range $0.005$ to $0.11$ are obtained for different hypotheses on the $\itΩ_{cc}^{+}$ mass and lifetime in the rapidity range from 2.0 to 4.5 and transverse momentum range from 4 to 15$\mathrm{\,Ge\kern -0.1em V}/c$.

A CAVC can be viewed as a noisy channel with a fixed, but unknown, compound-state and an AVC-state which may vary with every channel use. The AVC-state is controlled by an adversary who is aware of the compound-state. We study three problems in this setting: 'communication', 'communication and compound-state identification', and 'communication or compound-state identification'. For these problems, we study conditions for feasibility and capacity under deterministic coding and random coding.

We introduce the problem of determining the identity of a byzantine user (internal adversary) in a communication system. We consider a two-user discrete memoryless multiple access channel where either user may deviate from the prescribed behaviour. Owing to the noisy nature of the channel, it may be overly restrictive to attempt to detect all deviations. In our formulation, we only require detecting deviations which impede the decoding of the non-deviating user's message. When neither user deviates, correct decoding is required. When one user deviates, the decoder must either output a pair of messages of which the message of the non-deviating user is correct or identify the deviating user. The users and the receiver do not share any randomness. The results include a characterization of the set of channels where communication is feasible, and an inner and outer bound on the capacity region.

The $D_s^{*+} \to D_s^+ γ$ and $D^{*-} \to \bar{D}^0 π^-$ vector meson decays are used with the subsequent $D_s^+ \to K^+ K^- π^+$ and $\bar{D}^0 \to K^+ π^-$ decays. All helicity amplitudes and phases are measured, and the longitudinal polarisation fraction is determined to be $f_{\rm L} = 0.578 \pm 0.010 \pm 0.011$ with world-best precision, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The pattern of helicity amplitude magnitudes is found to align with expectations from quark-helicity conservation in $B$ decays. The ratio of branching fractions $[\mathcal{B}(B^0 \to D^{*-} D_s^{*+}) \times \mathcal{B}(D_s^{*+} \to D_s^+ γ)]/\mathcal{B}(B^0 \to D^{*-} D_s^+)$ is measured to be $2.045 \pm 0.022 \pm 0.071$ with world-best precision. In addition, the first observation of the Cabibbo-suppressed $B_s^0 \to D^{*-} D_s^+$ decay is made with a significance of seven standard deviations. The branching fraction ratio $\mathcal{B}(B_s^0 \to D^{*-} D_s^+)/\mathcal{B}(B^0 \to D^{*-} D_s^+)$ is measured to be $0.049 \pm 0.006 \pm 0.003 \pm 0.002$, where the third uncertainty is due to limited knowledge of the ratio of fragmentation fractions.

The flavor of the $D^0$ candidate is determined using the charge of the $D^{*\pm}$ meson, from which the decay is required to originate. The $D^0 \to K^+ K^-$ decay is used as a calibration channel. The time-integrated $CP$ asymmetry for the $D^0 \to K^0_S K^0_S$ mode is measured to be: $$A^{CP}(D^0 \to K^0_S K^0_S) = (-3.1\pm 1.2\pm 0.4 \pm 0.2)\%, $$ where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is due to the uncertainty on the $CP$ asymmetry of the calibration channel. This is the most precise determination of this quantity to date.

A good description of the phase-space distribution is obtained with an amplitude model containing contributions from $Σ(1385)$, $Λ(1405)$, $Λ(1520)$, $Λ(1670)$, $Σ(1775)$ and $Σ(1915)$ resonances. The model allows for $CP$-violation effects, which are found to be consistent with zero. The branching fractions of $Ξ_b^- \to Σ(1385) K^-$, $Ξ_b^- \to Λ(1405) K^-$, $Ξ_b^- \to Λ(1520) K^-$, $Ξ_b^- \to Λ(1670) K^-$, $Ξ_b^- \to Σ(1775) K^-$ and $Ξ_b^- \to Σ(1915) K^-$ decays are also reported. In addition, an upper limit is placed on the product of ratios of $Ω_b^-$ and $Ξ_b^-$ fragmentation fractions and the $Ω_b^- \to p K^- K^-$ and $Ξ_b^- \to p K^- K^-$ branching fractions.

Here we present ameasurement of deltams using B0s2DsPi decays produced in proton-proton collisions collected with the LHCb detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The oscillation frequency is found to be deltams = 17.7683 +- 0.0051 +- 0.0032 ps-1, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. This measurement improves upon the current deltams precision by a factor of two. We combine this result with previous LHCb measurements to determine deltams = 17.7656 +- 0.0057 ps-1, which is the legacy measurement of the original LHCb detector.

The Standard Model of particle physics currently provides our best description of fundamental particles and their interactions. The theory predicts that the different charged leptons, the electron, muon and tau, have identical electroweak interaction strengths. Previous measurements have shown a wide range of particle decays are consistent with this principle of lepton universality. This article presents evidence for the breaking of lepton universality in beauty-quark decays, with a significance of 3.1 standard deviations, based on proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector at CERN's Large Hadron Collider. The measurements are of processes in which a beauty meson transforms into a strange meson with the emission of either an electron and a positron, or a muon and an antimuon. If confirmed by future measurements, this violation of lepton universality would imply physics beyond the Standard Model, such as a new fundamental interaction between quarks and leptons.

Searches for $CP$ violation in the two-body decays $D_{(s)}^{+}\rightarrow h^{+}π^{0}$ and $D_{(s)}^{+} \rightarrow h^{+}η$ (where $h^{+}$ denotes a $π^{+}$ or $K^{+}$ meson) are performed using $pp$ collision data collected by the LHCb experiment corresponding to either 9 fb$^{-1}$ or 6 fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity. The $π^{0}$ and $η$ mesons are reconstructed using the $e^{+}e^{-}γ$ final state, which can proceed as three-body decays $π^{0}\rightarrow e^{+}e^{-}γ$ and $η\rightarrow e^{+}e^{-}γ$, or via the two-body decays $π^{0}\rightarrow γγ$ and $η\rightarrowγγ$ followed by a photon conversion. The measurements are made relative to the control modes $D_{(s)}^{+}\rightarrow K_{S}^{0} h^{+}$ to cancel the production and detection asymmetries. The $CP$ asymmetries are measured to be \begin{align} \mathcal{A}_{CP}(D^{+}\rightarrow π^{+}π^{0}) &= (-1.3 \pm 0.9 \pm 0.6 )\%, \end{align} \begin{align} \mathcal{A}_{CP}(D^{+}\rightarrow K^{+}π^{0}) &= (-3.2 \pm 4.7 \pm 2.1 )\%, \end{align} \begin{align} \mathcal{A}_{CP}(D^{+}\rightarrow π^{+}η) &= (-0.2 \pm 0.8 \pm 0.4 )\%, \end{align} \begin{align} \mathcal{A}_{CP}(D^{+}\rightarrow K^{+}η) &= (-6 \pm 10 \pm 4 )\%, \end{align} \begin{align} \mathcal{A}_{CP}(D_{s}^{+}\rightarrow K^{+}π^{0}) &= (-0.8 \pm 3.9 \pm 1.2 )\%, \end{align} \begin{align} \mathcal{A}_{CP}(D_{s}^{+}\rightarrow π^{+}η) &= (0.8 \pm 0.7 \pm 0.5 )\%, \end{align} \begin{align} \mathcal{A}_{CP}(D_{s}^{+}\rightarrow K^{+}η) &= (0.9 \pm 3.7 \pm 1.1 )\%, \end{align} where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. These results are consistent with no $CP$ violation and mostly constitute the most precise measurements of $\mathcal{A}_{CP}$ in these decay modes to date.

This Letter reports the first measurement of prompt $χ_{c1}$ and $χ_{c2}$ charmonium production in nuclear collisions at Large Hadron Collider energies. The cross-section ratio $σ(χ_{c2}) / σ(χ_{c1})$ is measured in $p$Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 8.16 TeV, collected with the LHCb experiment. The $χ_{c1,2}$ states are reconstructed via their decay to a $\rm{J}/ψ$ meson, subsequently decaying into a pair of oppositely charged muons, and a photon, which is reconstructed in the calorimeter or via its conversion in the detector material. The cross-section ratio is consistent with unity in the two considered rapidity regions. Comparison with a corresponding cross-section ratio previously measured by the LHCb collaboration in $pp$ collisions suggests that $χ_{c1}$ and $χ_{c2}$ states are similarly affected by nuclear effects occurring in $p$Pb collisions.
