The performance of Large Language Models has achieved superhuman breadth with unprecedented depth. At the same time, the language models are mostly black box models and the underlying mechanisms for performance have been evaluated using synthetic or mechanistic schemes. We extend current mechanistic schemes to incorporate Logic, memory, and nuances of Language such as latent structure. The proposed framework is called LOLAMEME and we provide two instantiations of LOLAMEME: LoLa and MeMe languages. We then consider two generative language model architectures: transformer-based GPT-2 and convolution-based Hyena. We propose the hybrid architecture T HEX and use LOLAMEME framework is used to compare three architectures. T HEX outperforms GPT-2 and Hyena on select tasks.

To generate summaries that include multiple aspects or topics for text documents, most approaches use clustering or topic modeling to group relevant sentences and then generate a summary for each group. These approaches struggle to optimize the summarization and clustering algorithms jointly. On the other hand, aspect-based summarization requires known aspects. Our solution integrates topic discovery and summarization into a single step. Given text data, our Joint Aspect Discovery and Summarization algorithm (JADS) discovers aspects from the input and generates a summary of the topics, in one step. We propose a self-supervised framework that creates a labeled dataset by first mixing sentences from multiple documents (e.g., CNN/DailyMail articles) as the input and then uses the article summaries from the mixture as the labels. The JADS model outperforms the two-step baselines. With pretraining, the model achieves better performance and stability. Furthermore, embeddings derived from JADS exhibit superior clustering capabilities. Our proposed method achieves higher semantic alignment with ground truth and is factual.

It was recently conjectured that a certain vacuum Kerr-Schild spacetime, which may be regarded as a self-dual analog of the Kerr metric, is equivalent to the self-dual Taub-NUT instanton. We confirm this conjecture by applying the Cartan-Karlhede algorithm to each metric and showing that for suitable choices of null tetrad, the algorithm leads to the same invariants and linear isotropy groups for both, establishing their equivalence. While it is well-known that the Taub-NUT solution and its self-dual version admit a double Kerr-Schild form, the observation that the self-dual Taub-NUT instanton admits a single Kerr-Schild form has only been made very recently. The two metrics we compare may be regarded as either complex metrics with Lorentzian (1,3) signature or real metrics with Kleinian (2,2) signature; here we take the latter view. Significant simplifications occur when the null tetrads are chosen to consist of two pairs of complex conjugate null vectors rather than four real independent ones. As a bonus, our work provides the first example of applying the Cartan-Karlhede algorithm using a null tetrad of this type.

Multiple imputation (MI) models can be improved by including auxiliary covariates (AC), but their performance in high-dimensional data is not well understood. We aimed to develop and compare high-dimensional MI (HDMI) approaches using structured and natural language processing (NLP)-derived AC in studies with partially observed confounders. We conducted a plasmode simulation study using data from opioid vs. non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) initiators (X) with observed serum creatinine labs (Z2) and time-to-acute kidney injury as outcome. We simulated 100 cohorts with a null treatment effect, including X, Z2, atrial fibrillation (U), and 13 other investigator-derived confounders (Z1) in the outcome generation. We then imposed missingness (MZ2) on 50% of Z2 measurements as a function of Z2 and U and created different HDMI candidate AC using structured and NLP-derived features. We mimicked scenarios where U was unobserved by omitting it from all AC candidate sets. Using LASSO, we data-adaptively selected HDMI covariates associated with Z2 and MZ2 for MI, and with U to include in propensity score models. The treatment effect was estimated following propensity score matching in MI datasets and we benchmarked HDMI approaches against a baseline imputation and complete case analysis with Z1 only. HDMI using claims data showed the lowest bias (0.072). Combining claims and sentence embeddings led to an improvement in the efficiency displaying the lowest root-mean-squared-error (0.173) and coverage (94%). NLP-derived AC alone did not perform better than baseline MI. HDMI approaches may decrease bias in studies with partially observed confounders where missingness depends on unobserved factors.

We present the basis of dimension-eight operators associated with universal theories. We first derive a complete list of independent dimension-eight operators formed with the Standard Model bosonic fields characteristic of such universal new physics scenarios. Without imposing C or P symmetries the basis contains 175 operators -- that is, the assumption of Universality reduces the number of independent SMEFT coefficients at dimension eight from 44807 to 175. 89 of the 175 universal operators are included in the general dimension-eight operator basis in the literature. The 86 additional operators involve higher derivatives of the Standard Model bosonic fields and can be rotated in favor of operators involving fermions using the Standard Model equations of motion for the bosonic fields. By doing so we obtain the allowed fermionic operators generated in this class of models which we map into the corresponding 86 independent combinations of operators in the dimension-eight basis of Ref. arXiv:2005.00059

In addition, spectropolarimetry is planned at 10747 Å~ channel. Therefore, VELC has three sCMOS detectors and one InGaAs detector. In this article, we aim to describe the technical details and specifications of the detectors achieved by way of thermo-vacuum calibration at the CREST campus of the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore, India. Furthermore, we report the estimated conversion gain, full-well capacity, and readout noise at different temperatures. Based on the numbers, it is thus concluded that it is essential to operate the sCMOS detectors and InGaAs detectors at $-5^{\circ}$ and $-17^{\circ}$ C, respectively, at the spacecraft level.

This study introduces an innovative violence detection framework tailored to the unique requirements of smart airports, where prompt responses to violent situations are crucial. The proposed framework harnesses the power of ViTPose for human pose estimation. It employs a CNN - BiLSTM network to analyse spatial and temporal information within keypoints sequences, enabling the accurate classification of violent behaviour in real time. Seamlessly integrated within the SAFE (Situational Awareness for Enhanced Security framework of SAAB, the solution underwent integrated testing to ensure robust performance in real world scenarios. The AIRTLab dataset, characterized by its high video quality and relevance to surveillance scenarios, is utilized in this study to enhance the model's accuracy and mitigate false positives. As airports face increased foot traffic in the post pandemic era, implementing AI driven violence detection systems, such as the one proposed, is paramount for improving security, expediting response times, and promoting data informed decision making. The implementation of this framework not only diminishes the probability of violent events but also assists surveillance teams in effectively addressing potential threats, ultimately fostering a more secure and protected aviation sector. S2vNTM leverages the pattern of keywords to identify potential topics, as well as optimize the quality of topics' keywords sets. Across a variety of datasets, S2vNTM outperforms existing semi-supervised topic modeling methods in classification accuracy with limited keywords provided. In text classification tasks, fine tuning pretrained language models like BERT and GPT-3 yields competitive accuracy; however, both methods require pretraining on large text datasets. In contrast, general topic modeling methods possess the advantage of analyzing documents to extract meaningful patterns of words without the need of pretraining. To leverage topic modeling's unsupervised insights extraction on text classification tasks, we develop the Knowledge Distillation Semi-supervised Topic Modeling (KDSTM). KDSTM requires no pretrained embeddings, few labeled documents and is efficient to train, making it ideal under resource constrained settings. Across a variety of datasets, our method outperforms existing supervised topic modeling methods in classification accuracy, robustness and efficiency and achieves similar performance compare to state of the art weakly supervised text classification methods.

We perform a complete study of the electroweak precision observables and electroweak gauge boson pair production in terms of the SMEFT up to ${\cal O}(1/Λ^4)$ under the assumption of universal, C and P conserving new physics. We show that the analysis of data from those two sectors allows us to obtain closed constraints in the relevant parameter space in this scenario. In particular we find that the Large Hadron Collider data can independently constrain the Wilson coefficients of the dimension-six and -eight operators directly contributing to the triple gauge boson vertices. Our results show that the impact of dimension-eight operators in the study of triple gauge couplings is small.

Abstractive dialogue summarization has long been viewed as an important standalone task in natural language processing, but no previous work has explored the possibility of whether abstractive dialogue summarization can also be used as a means to boost an NLP system's performance on other important dialogue comprehension tasks. In this paper, we propose a novel type of dialogue summarization task - STRUctured DiaLoguE Summarization - that can help pre-trained language models to better understand dialogues and improve their performance on important dialogue comprehension tasks. We further collect human annotations of STRUDEL summaries over 400 dialogues and introduce a new STRUDEL dialogue comprehension modeling framework that integrates STRUDEL into a graph-neural-network-based dialogue reasoning module over transformer encoder language models to improve their dialogue comprehension abilities. In our empirical experiments on two important downstream dialogue comprehension tasks - dialogue question answering and dialogue response prediction - we show that our STRUDEL dialogue comprehension model can significantly improve the dialogue comprehension performance of transformer encoder language models.

One of the most pressing issues that have arisen due to the rapid growth of the Internet is known as information overloading. Simplifying the relevant information in the form of a summary will assist many people because the material on any topic is plentiful on the Internet. Manually summarising massive amounts of text is quite challenging for humans. So, it has increased the need for more complex and powerful summarizers. Researchers have been trying to improve approaches for creating summaries since the 1950s, such that the machine-generated summary matches the human-created summary. This study provides a detailed state-of-the-art analysis of text summarization concepts such as summarization approaches, techniques used, standard datasets, evaluation metrics and future scopes for research. The most commonly accepted approaches are extractive and abstractive, studied in detail in this work. Evaluating the summary and increasing the development of reusable resources and infrastructure aids in comparing and replicating findings, adding competition to improve the outcomes. Different evaluation methods of generated summaries are also discussed in this study. Finally, at the end of this study, several challenges and research opportunities related to text summarization research are mentioned that may be useful for potential researchers working in this area.

In most existing emotion recognition studies, each audioutterance/video clip is labelled/classified in its entirety. However,utterance/clip-level labelling and classification can be too coarseto capture the subtle intra-utterance/clip temporal dynamics. In thisstudy, we propose to use attention mechanism in deep recurrentneural networks to detection the Regions-of-Interest (ROI) thatare more emotionally salient in human emotional speech/video,and further estimate the temporal emotion dynamics by aggre-gating those emotionally salient regions-of-interest. Factual inconsistencies in generated summaries severely limit the practical applications of abstractive dialogue summarization. Although significant progress has been achieved by using pre-trained models, substantial amounts of hallucinated content are found during the human evaluation. Pre-trained models are most commonly fine-tuned with cross-entropy loss for text summarization, which may not be an optimal strategy. In this work, we provide a typology of factual errors with annotation data to highlight the types of errors and move away from a binary understanding of factuality. We further propose a training strategy that improves the factual consistency and overall quality of summaries via a novel contrastive fine-tuning, called ConFiT. Based on our linguistically-informed typology of errors, we design different modular objectives that each target a specific type. Specifically, we utilize hard negative samples with errors to reduce the generation of factual inconsistency. In order to capture the key information between speakers, we also design a dialogue-specific loss. Using human evaluation and automatic faithfulness metrics, we show that our model significantly reduces all kinds of factual errors on the dialogue summarization, SAMSum corpus. Moreover, our model could be generalized to the meeting summarization, AMI corpus, and it produces significantly higher scores than most of the baselines on both datasets regarding word-overlap metrics.

Homotopy analysis provides an expression for the natural frequency of the oscillator that also includes free parameters arising from the convergence-control function. Generating extra equations using Galerkin projections and solving the same numerically gives the approximate natural response of the non-smooth oscillators. We also seek aperiodic natural response of a unilaterally constrained simple pendulum. The superiority of the approach is well-established over the method of harmonic balance, Lindstedt-Poincaré method and conventional homotopy analysis method.

We propose homotopy analysis method in combination with Galerkin projections to obtain transition curves of Mathieu-like equations. While constructing homotopy, we think of convergence-control parameter as a function of embedding parameter and call it a convergence-control function. Homotopy analysis provides a relation between the parameters of Mathieu equation that also includes free parameters arising from convergence-control function. We generate extra nonlinear algebraic equations using Galerkin projections and solve numerically for arriving at transition curves. We demonstrate the usefulness of our method in case of three distinct versions of linear Mathieu equation by carefully choosing nonlinear and auxiliary operators. Since homotopy analysis does not demand smallness of any of the parameters, our approach has distinct advantage over perturbation methods in determining transition curves covering a large region of the parameter space. The method is applicable to a wide variety of parametrically excited oscillators.

Copy move forgery detection in digital images has become a very popular research topic in the area of image forensics. Due to the availability of sophisticated image editing tools and ever increasing hardware capabilities, it has become an easy task to manipulate the digital images. Passive forgery detection techniques are more relevant as they can be applied without the prior information about the image in question. Block based techniques are used to detect copy move forgery, but have limitations of large time complexity and sensitivity against affine operations like rotation and scaling. Keypoint based approaches are used to detect forgery in large images where the possibility of significant post processing operations like rotation and scaling is more. A hybrid approach is proposed using different methods for keypoint detection and description. Speeded Up Robust Features (SURF) are used to detect the keypoints in the image and Binary Robust Invariant Scalable Keypoints (BRISK) features are used to describe features at these keypoints. The proposed method has performed better than the existing forgery detection method using SURF significantly in terms of detection speed and is invariant to post processing operations like rotation and scaling. The proposed method is also invariant to other commonly applied post processing operations like adding Gaussian noise and JPEG compression
