On $\operatorname{Alt}(n)$-modules with an additive dimension when $n\le6$
Abstract: Working in the general context of "modules with an additive dimension," we complete the determination of the minimal dimension of a faithful Alt(n)-module and classify those modules in three of the exceptional cases: 2-dimensional Alt(5)-modules in characteristic 2, 3-dimensional Alt(5)-modules in characteristic 5, and 3-dimensional Alt(6)-modules in characteristic 3. We also highlight the remaini… ▽ More

Simple Lie rings of Morley rank 4
Abstract: We prove the Lie ring equivalent of the Cherlin-Zilber conjecture -- in characteristic 0, for any rank and -- in characteristic not 2, 3 for rank less than or equal to 4. Both are open in the group case.

Zilber's skew-field lemma
Abstract: We revisit one of Zilber's early results in model-theoretic algebra, viz. definability in Schur's lemma. This takes place in a broader context than the original version from the seventies. The present exposition contains results extracted from more general research in progress with Frank O. Wagner.

On quasi-Frobenius pairs of finite Morley rank
Abstract: We clarify quasi-Frobenius configurations of finite Morley rank. 1. We remove one assumption in an identification theorem by Zamour while simplifying the proof. 2. We show that a strongly embedded quasi-Frobenius configuration of odd type, is actually Frobenius. 3. For dihedral configurations, one has $\dim G = 3 \dim C$. These results rely on an interesting phenomenon of closure of non-generic ma… ▽ More

Sym(n)- and Alt(n)-modules with an additive dimension
Abstract: We revisit, clarify, and generalise classical results of Dickson and (much later) Wagner on minimal Sym(n)- and Alt(n)-modules. We present a new, natural notion of 'modules with an additive dimension' covering at once the classical, finitary case as well as modules definable in an o-minimal or finite Morley rank setting; in this context, we fully identify the faithful Sym(n)- and Alt(n)-modules of… ▽ More

Binding groups, permutations groups and modules of finite Morley rank
Abstract: The present survey aims at being a list of Conjectures and Problems in an area of model-theoretic algebra wide open for research, not a list of known results. To keep the text compact, it focuses on structures of finite Morley rank, although the same questions can be asked about other classes of objects, for example, groups definable in $ω$-stable and $o$-minimal theories. In many cases, answers a… ▽ More

The geometry of involutions in ranked groups with a TI-subgroup
Abstract: We revisit the geometry of involutions in groups of finite Morley rank. Our approach unifies and generalises numerous results, both old and recent, that have exploited this geometry; though in fact, we prove much more. We also conjecture that this path leads to a new identification theorem for $\operatorname{PGL}_2(\mathbb{K})$.

Simple groups of Morley rank 5 are bad
Abstract: By exploiting the geometry of involutions in $N_\circ^\circ$-groups of finite Morley rank, we show that any simple group of Morley rank $5$ is a bad group all of whose proper definable connected subgroups are nilpotent of rank at most $2$. The main result is then used to catalog the nonsoluble connected groups of Morley rank $5$.

Symmetric powers of Nat SL(2,K)
Abstract: We identify the representations $\mathbb{K}[X^k, X^{k-1}Y, \dots, Y^k]$ among abstract $\mathbb{Z}[\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{K})]$-modules. One result is on $\mathbb{Q}[\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{Z})]$-modules of short nilpotence length and generalises a classical "quadratic" theorem by Smith and Timmesfeld. Another one is on extending the linear structure on the module from the prime field to… ▽ More

Involutive automorphisms of $N_\circ^\circ$ groups of finite Morley rank
Abstract: We classify a large class of small groups of finite Morley rank: $N_\circ^\circ$-groups which are the infinite analogues of Thompson's $N$-groups. More precisely, we constrain the $2$-structure of groups of finite Morley rank containing a definable, normal, non-soluble, $N_\circ^\circ$-subgroup.

Veränderungen über einen Satz von Timmesfeld - II. Symmetric powers of Nat sl(2,K)
Abstract: We identify the spaces of homogeneous polynomials in two variables K[Y^k, XY^{k-1}, ..., X^k] among representations of the Lie ring sl(2,K). This amounts to constructing a compatible K-linear structure on some abstract sl(2,K)-modules, where sl(2,K) is viewed as a Lie ring.

Groups of finite Morley rank with solvable local subgroups
Abstract: We lay down the fundations of the theory of groups of finite Morley rank in which local subgroups are solvable and we proceed to the local analysis of these groups. We prove the main Uniqueness Theorem, analogous to the Bender method in finite group theory, and derive its corollaries. We also consider homogeneous cases as well as torsion.
