RDF and property graph models have many similarities, such as using basic graph concepts like nodes and edges. However, such models differ in their modeling approach, expressivity, serialization, and the nature of applications. RDF is the de-facto standard model for knowledge graphs on the Semantic Web and supported by a rich ecosystem for inference and processing. The property graph model, in contrast, provides advantages in scalable graph analytical tasks, such as graph matching, path analysis, and graph traversal. RDF-star extends RDF and allows capturing metadata as a first-class citizen. To tap on the advantages of alternative models, the literature proposes different ways of transforming knowledge graphs between property graphs and RDF. However, most of these approaches cannot provide complete transformations for RDF-star graphs. Hence, this paper provides a step towards transforming RDF-star graphs into property graphs. In particular, we identify different cases to evaluate transformation approaches from RDF-star to property graphs. Specifically, we categorize two classes of transformation approaches and analyze them based on the test cases. The obtained insights will form the foundation for building complete transformation approaches in the future.

This study aims to assess the properties and classification of 55 variable stars in Scutum, little studied since their discovery and reported in the Information Bulletin on Variable Stars (IBVS) 985 and update. Using data from previous studies and several astronomical databases, we performed our analysis mainly utilizing a period analysis software and comparing the photometric characteristics of the variables in a Colour-Absolute Magnitude Diagram. For all stars, the variability is confirmed. We discovered new significant results for the period and/or type of 17 variables and highlighted incorrect cross-reference names on astronomical databases for 3 stars. This assessment also identifies 12 cases for which the results from the ASAS-SN Catalog of Variable Stars are systematically not consistent with the original light curves.

The Complex Community Structure of the Bitcoin Address Correspondence Network

Bitcoin is built on a blockchain, an immutable decentralised ledger that allows entities (users) to exchange Bitcoins in a pseudonymous manner. Bitcoins are associated with alpha-numeric addresses and are transferred via transactions. Each transaction is composed of a set of input addresses (associated with unspent outputs received from previous transactions) and a set of output addresses (to which Bitcoins are transferred). Despite Bitcoin was designed with anonymity in mind, different heuristic approaches exist to detect which addresses in a specific transaction belong to the same entity. By applying these heuristics, we build an Address Correspondence Network: in this representation, addresses are nodes are connected with edges if at least one heuristic detects them as belonging to the same entity. %addresses are nodes and edges are drawn between addresses detected as belonging to the same entity by at least one heuristic. %nodes represent addresses and edges model the likelihood that two nodes belong to the same entity %In this network, connected components represent sets of addresses controlled by the same entity. In this paper, we analyse for the first time the Address Correspondence Network and show it is characterised by a complex topology, signalled by a broad, skewed degree distribution and a power-law component size distribution. Using a large-scale dataset of addresses for which the controlling entities are known, we show that a combination of external data coupled with standard community detection algorithms can reliably identify entities. The complex nature of the Address Correspondence Network reveals that usage patterns of individual entities create statistical regularities; and that these regularities can be leveraged to more accurately identify entities and gain a deeper understanding of the Bitcoin economy as a whole.

As sadly known, forest fires are part of a set of natural disasters that have always affected regions of the world typically characterized by a tropical climate with long periods of drought. However, due to climate changes of the recent years, other regions of our planet that were not affected by this plague have also had to deal with this phenomenon. One of them is certainly the Italian peninsula, and especially the regions of southern Italy. For this reason, the scientific community, and in particular that one of the remote sensing, plays an important role in the development of reliable techniques to provide useful support to the competent authorities. Therefore, in this work, the capability of the Normalized Differential Water Index (NDWI), derived from spaceborne remote sensing (RS) data, is assessed to monitor the forest fires occurred on a specific study area during the summer of 2017: the volcano Vesuvius, near Naples (in Campania, Italy). In particular, the index is obtained from Sentinel-2 multispectral images of the European Space Agency (ESA), which are free of charge and open accessible. Moreover, the twin Sentinel-2 (S-2) sensors allows to overcome some restrictions on time delivery and high frequency observation. These requirements are goodly matched by other spaceborne sensors, such as MODIS and VIIRS satellites, but at the expense of a lower spatial resolution.

Remote Sensing applications can benefit from a relatively fine spatial resolution multispectral (MS) images and a high revisit frequency ensured by the twin satellites Sentinel-2. Unfortunately, only four out of thirteen bands are provided at the highest resolution of 10 meters, and the others at 20 or 60 meters. For instance the Short-Wave Infrared (SWIR) bands, provided at 20 meters, are very useful to detect active fires. Aiming to a more detailed Active Fire Detection (AFD) maps, we propose a super-resolution data fusion method based on Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to move towards the 10-m spatial resolution the SWIR bands. The proposed CNN-based solution achieves better results than alternative methods in terms of some accuracy metrics. Moreover we test the super-resolved bands from an application point of view by monitoring active fire through classic indices. Advantages and limits of our proposed approach are validated on specific geographical area (the mount Vesuvius, close to Naples) that was damaged by widespread fires during the summer of 2017.
