The problem of vectorial mesons embedded in an electromagnetic field via Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau (DKP) formalism is reinvestigated. Considering the electromagnetic interaction as a minimal coupling, an incorrect value $(g=1)$ is identified for the gyromagnetic factor ($g$-factor). Furthermore, it is shown that is cumbersome to find analytical solutions due to the presence of the so-called anomalous term for the spin-1 sector of the DKP theory. Suspecting that the anomalous term results from an incomplete version of the DKP equation to describe the electromagnetic interaction, we consider the addition of a non-minimal coupling. This leads to the correct $g$-factor $(g=2)$, and as a consequence, the anomalous term becomes proportional to an external four current. As an application, the DKP equation with a static uniform magnetic field is considered, yielding the corresponding Landau levels.

The pseudopotential and free energy models are two popular extensions of the lattice Boltzmann method for multiphase flows. Until now, they have been developed apart from each other in the literature. However, important questions about whether each method performs better needs to be solved. In this work, we perform a theoretical and numerical comparison between both methods. This comparison is only possible because we developed a novel approach for controlling the interface thickness in the pseudopotential method independently on the equation of state. In this way, it is possible to compare both methods maintaining the same equilibrium densities, interface thickness, surface tension and equation of state parameters. The well-balanced approach was selected to represent the free energy. We found that the free energy one is more practical to use, as it is not necessary to carry out previous simulations to determine simulation parameters (interface thickness, surface tension, etc). In addition, the tests proofed that the free energy model is more accurate than the pseudopotential model. Furthermore, the pseudopotential method suffers from a lack of thermodynamic consistency even when applying the corrections proposed in the literature. On the other hand, for both static and dynamic tests we verified that the pseudopotential method is more stable than the free energy one, allowing simulations with lower reduced temperatures. We hope that these results will guide authors in the use of each method.

This work re-examines the issue of spin-$1$ particles in a ($2+1$)-dimensional Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau oscillator (DKPO) in the presence of an external magnetic field. By following the appropriate procedure for the spin-$1$ sector of the Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau (DKP) theory, the previously used $6\times 6$ representation in the literature is shown to be reducible to a $3\times 3$ irreducible representation. This approach enabled us to find new aspects of the results recently disseminated in various studies, as well as other considerations overlooked and requiring revision. Finally, we present some applications of two-dimensional DKP theory in condensed matter systems, particularly in Lieb lattices.

Federated Learning (FL) is a distributed Machine Learning (ML) technique that can benefit from cloud environments while preserving data privacy. We propose Multi-FedLS, a framework that manages multi-cloud resources, reducing execution time and financial costs of Cross-Silo Federated Learning applications by using preemptible VMs, cheaper than on-demand ones but that can be revoked at any time. Our framework encloses four modules: Pre-Scheduling, Initial Map**, Fault Tolerance, and Dynamic Scheduler. This paper extends our previous work \cite{brum2022sbac} by formally describing the Multi-FedLS resource manager framework and its modules. Experiments were conducted with three Cross-Silo FL applications on CloudLab and a proof-of-concept confirms that Multi-FedLS can be executed on a multi-cloud composed by AWS and GCP, two commercial cloud providers. Results show that the problem of executing Cross-Silo FL applications in multi-cloud environments with preemptible VMs can be efficiently resolved using a mathematical formulation, fault tolerance techniques, and a simple heuristic to choose a new VM in case of revocation.

The Kubo formula is a cornerstone in our understanding of near-equilibrium transport phenomena. While conceptually elegant, the application of Kubo's linear-response theory to interesting problems is hindered by the need for algorithms that are accurate and scalable to large lattice sizes beyond one spatial dimension. Here, we propose a general framework to numerically study large systems, which combines the spectral accuracy of Chebyshev expansions with the efficiency of divide-and-conquer methods. We use the hybrid algorithm to calculate the two-terminal conductance and the bulk conductivity tensor of 2D lattice models with over $10^7$ sites. By efficiently sampling the microscopic information contained in billions of Chebyshev moments, the algorithm is able to accurately resolve the linear-response properties of complex systems in the presence of quenched disorder. Our results lay the groundwork for future studies of transport phenomena in previously inaccessible regimes.

Since 2014, when Martin Fowler popularized the Microservice term, many studies have been published relating these subjects to explore how the Edge's low-latency feature could be combined with the high throughput of the distributed paradigm from Microservices. Objective: Identifying how Microservices work together with Edge Computing whereas they take advantage when running on Edge. Method: In order to better understand this relationship, we first identified its key concepts, which are: architecture approaches and features, microservice composition (orchestration/choreography), and offloading. Afterward, we conducted a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) as the survey method. Results: We reviewed 111 selected studies and built a taxonomy of Microservices on Edge Computing demonstrating their current architecture approaches and features, composition, and offloading modes. Moreover, we identify the research gaps and trends. Conclusion: This paper is a step forward to help researchers and professionals get a general overview of how Microservices and Edge have been related in the last years. It also discusses gaps and research trends. This SLR will also be a good introduction for new researchers in Edge and Microservices.

Independently of the coupling regime, this model can be exactly and unitarily reduced to two independent single-spin quantum Rabi models, where the spin-spin coupling plays the role of the transverse field. The existence of different first-order quantum phase transitions, characterized by discontinuous two-spin magnetization, mean photon number and concurrence, is brought to light.

In recent years, Chebyshev polynomial expansions of tight-binding Green's functions have been successfully applied to the study of a wide range of spectral and transport properties of materials. However, the application of the Chebyshev approach to the study of quantum transport properties of noninteracting mesoscopic systems with leads has been hampered by the lack of a suitable Chebyshev expansion of Landaeur's formula or one of its equivalent formulations in terms of Green's functions in Keldysh's perturbation theory. Here, we tackle this issue by means of a hybrid approach that combines the efficiency of Chebyshev expansions with the convenience of complex absorbing potentials to calculate the conductance of two-terminal devices in a computationally expedient and accurate fashion. The versatility of the approach is demonstrated for mesoscopic twisted bilayer graphene (TBG) devices with up to $2.3\times10^6$ atomic sites. Our results highlight the importance of moiré effects, interlayer scattering events and twist-angle disorder in determining the conductance curves in devices with a small twist angle near the TBG magic angle $θ_m \approx 1.1^\circ$.

The time-evolution operator obtained from the fractional-time Schrödinger equation (FTSE) is said to be non-unitary since it does not preserve the norm of the vector state in time. As done in the time-dependent non-Hermitian quantum formalism, for a traceless non-Hermitian two-level quantum system, we demonstrate that it is possible to map the non-unitary time-evolution operator in a unitary one. It is done by considering a dynamical Hilbert space with a time-dependent metric operator, constructed from a Hermitian time-dependent Dyson map, in respect to which the system evolves in a unitary way, and the standard quantum mechanics interpretation can be made properly. To elucidate our approach, we consider three examples of Hamiltonian operators and their corresponding unitary dynamics obtained from the solutions of FTSE, and the respective Dyson maps.

In this work we present the general unified description for the unitary time-evolution generated by time-dependent non-Hermitian Hamiltonians embedding the bosonic representations of $\mathfrak{su}(1,1)$ and $\mathfrak{su}(2)$ Lie algebras. We take into account a time-dependent Hermitian Dyson maps written in terms of the elements of those algebras with the relation between non-Hermitian and its Hermitian counterpart being independent of the algebra realization. As a direct consequence, we verify that a time-evolved state of uncoupled modes modulated by a time-dependent complex frequency may exhibits a non-zero entanglement even when the cross-operators, typical of the interaction between modes, are absent. This is due the non-local nature of the non-trivial dynamical Hilbert space metric encoded in the time-dependent parameters of the general Hermitian Dyson map, which depend on the imaginary part of the complex frequency.

Non-fullerene acceptor (NFA)-based ternary bulk heterojunction solar cells (TSC) are the most efficient organic solar cells (OSCs) today due to their broader absorption and quantum efficiencies (QE) often surpassing those of corresponding binary blends. We study how the energetics driving charge transfer at the electron donor:electron acceptor (D/A) interfaces impact the QE in blends of PBDB-T-2F donor with several pairs of lower bandgap NFAs. As in binary blends, the ionization energy offset between donor and acceptor (ΔIE) controls the QE and maximizes for ΔIE > 0.5 eV. However, ΔIE is not controlled by the individual NFAs IEs but by their average, weighted for their blending ratio. Using this property, we improved the QE of a PBDB-T-2F:IEICO binary blend that had an insufficient ΔIE for charge generation by adding a deep IE third component: IT-4F. Combining two NFAs enables to optimize the D/A energy alignment and cells' QE without molecular engineering.

An exact analytical treatment of the dynamical problem for time-dependent 2x2 pseudo-hermitian su(1,1) Hamiltonians is reported. A class of exactly solvable and physically transparent new scenarios are identified within both classical and quantum contexts. Such a class is spanned by a positive parameter $ν$ that allows to distinguish two different dynamical regimes. Our results are usefully employed for exactly solving a classical propagation problem in a guided wave optics scenario. The usefulness of our procedure in a quantum context is illustrated by defining and investigating the su(1,1) "Rabi" scenario bringing to light analogies and differences with the standard su(2) Rabi model. Our approach, conjugated with the generalized von Neumann equation describing open quantum systems through non-Hermitian Hamiltonians, succeeds in evidencing that the $ν$-dependent passage from a real to a complex energy spectrum is generally unrelated to the existence of the two dynamical regimes.

The exact quantum dynamics of a single spin-1/2 in a generic time-dependent classical magnetic field is investigated and compared with the quantum motion of a spin-1/2 studied by Rabi and Schwinger. The possibility of regarding the scenario studied in this paper as a generalization of that considered by Rabi and Schwinger is discussed and a notion of time-dependent resonance condition is introduced and carefully legitimated and analysed. Several examples help to disclose analogies and departures of the quantum motion induced in a generalized Rabi system with respect to that exhibited by the spin-1/2 in a magnetic field precessing around the $z$-axis. We find that, under generalized resonance condition, the time evolution of the transition probability $P_+^-(t)$ between the two eigenstates of ${\hat{S}}^z$ may be dominated by a regime of distorted oscillations, or may even exhibit a monotonic behaviour. At the same time we succeed in predicting no oscillations in the behaviour of $P_+^-(t)$ under general conditions. New scenarios of experimental interest originating a Landau-Zener transition is brought to light. Finally, the usefulness of our results is emphasized by showing their applicability in a classical guided wave optics scenario.

The relativistic quantum dynamics of scalar bosons in the background of a full vector coupling (minimal plus nonminimal vector couplings) is explored in the context of the Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau formalism. The Coulomb phase shift is determined for a general mixing of couplings and it is shown that the space component of the nonminimal coupling is a {\it sine qua non} condition for the exact closed-form scattering amplitude. It follows that the Rutherford cross section vanishes in the absence of the time component of the minimal coupling. Bound-state solutions obtained from the poles of the partial scattering amplitude show that the time component of the minimal coupling plays an essential role. The bound-state solutions depend on the nonminimal coupling and the spectrum consists of particles or antiparticles depending on the sign of the time component of the minimal coupling without chance for pair production even in the presence of strong couplings. It is also shown that an accidental degeneracy appears for a particular mixing of couplings.

The behaviour of fermions in the background of a double-step potential is analyzed with a general mixing of scalar and vector couplings via continuous chiral-conjugation transformation. Provided the vector coupling does not exceed the scalar coupling, a Sturm-Liouville approaching for the double-step potential shows that the transmission coefficient exhibits oscillations and that a finite set of intrinsically relativistic bound-state solutions might appear as poles of the transmission amplitude in a strong coupling regime. An isolated bound-state solution resulting from coupled first-order equations might also come into sight. It is also shown that all those possible bound solutions disappear asymptotically as one approaches the conditions for the realization of the so-called spin and pseudospin symmetries in a four-dimensional space-time. Furthermore, we show that due to the additional mass acquired by the fermion from the scalar background the high localization of the fermion in an extreme relativistic regime does not violate the Heisenberg uncertainty principle.

The behaviour of massive fermions is analyzed with scalar and vector potentials. A continuous chiral-conjugation transformation decouples the equation for the upper component of the Dirac spinor provided the vector coupling does not exceed the scalar coupling. It is shown that a Sturm-Liouville perspective is convenient for studying scattering as well as bound states. One possible isolated solution (excluded from the Sturm-Liouville problem) corresponding to a bound state might also come into sight. For potentials with kink-like profiles, beyond the intrinsically relativistic isolated bound-state solution corresponding to the zero-mode solution of the massive Jackiw-Rebbi model in the case of no vector coupling, a finite set of bound-state solutions might appear as poles of the transmission amplitude in a strong coupling regime. It is also shown that the possible isolated bound solution disappears asymptotically as the magnitude of the scalar and vector coupling becomes the same. Furthermore, we show that due to the sizeable mass gain from the scalar background the high localization of the fermion in an extreme relativistic regime is conformable to comply with the Heisenberg uncertainty principle.

The relativistic scattering of spin-0 bosons by spherically symmetric Coulomb fields is analyzed in detail with an arbitrary mixing of vector and scalar couplings. It is shown that the partial wave series reduces the scattering amplitude to the closed Rutherford formula exactly when the vector and scalar potentials have the same magnitude, and as an approximation for weak fields. The behavior of the scattering amplitude near the conditions that furnish its closed form is also discussed. Strong suppressions of the scattering amplitude when the vector and scalar potentials have the same magnitude are observed either for particles or antiparticles with low incident momentum. We point out that such strong suppressions might be relevant in the analysis of the scattering of fermions near the conditions for the spin and pseudospin symmetries. From the complex poles of the partial scattering amplitude the exact closed form of bound-state solutions for both particles and antiparticles with different scenarios for the coupling constants are obtained. Perturbative breaking of the accidental degeneracy appearing in a pair of special cases is related to the nonconservation of the Runge-Lenz vector.

The one-dimensional Schrödinger equation with the singular harmonic oscillator is investigated. The Hermiticity of the operators related to observable physical quantities is used as a criterion to show that the attractive or repulsive singular oscillator exhibits an infinite number of acceptable solutions provided the parameter responsible for the singularity is greater than a certain critical value, in disagreement with the literature. The problem for the whole line exhibits a two-fold degeneracy in the case of the singular oscillator, and the intrusion of additional solutions in the case of a nonsingular oscillator. Additionally, it is shown that the solution of the singular oscillator can not be obtained from the nonsingular oscillator via perturbation theory.

We show that the node structure for exact spin symmetry is the same as the one for central potentials which go to zero at infinity but for exact pseudospin symmetry the structure is reversed. We obtain the important result that it is possible to have positive energy bound solutions in exact pseudospin symmetry conditions for confining potentials of any shape, including naturally those used in hadron physics, from nuclear to quark models. Since this does not happen for potentials going to zero at large distances, used in nuclear relativistic mean-field potentials or in the atomic nucleus, this shows the decisive importance of the asymptotic behavior of the scalar and vector central potentials on the onset of pseudospin symmetry and on the node structure of the radial functions. Finally, we show that these results are still valid for negative energy bound solutions for anti-fermions.

We consider the problem of photon creation from vacuum inside an ideal cavity with vibrating walls in the resonance case, taking into account the interaction between the resonant field mode and a detector modeled by a quantum harmonic oscillator. The frequency of wall vibrations is taken to be twice the cavity normal frequency, modified due to the coupling with the detector. The dynamical equations are solved with the aid of the multiple scales method. Analytical expressions are obtained for the photon mean numbers and their variances for the field and detector modes, which are supposed to be initially in the vacuum quantum states. We analyze different regimes of excitation, depending on the ratio of the modulation depth of the time-dependent cavity eigenfrequency to the coupling strength between the cavity mode and detector. We show that statistical properties of the detector quantum state (variances of the photon numbers, photon distribution function, and the degree of quadrature squeezing) can be quite different from that of the field mode. Besides, the mean number of quanta in the detector mode increases with some time delay, compared with the field mode.

By performing an expansion of the relevant coefficients we also assess the perturbative nature of both symmetries and their relations the (pseudo)spin-orbit coupling. The former analysis is made for both positive and negative energy solutions and we reproduce the relations between spin and pseudospin symmetries found before for nuclear mean-field potentials. We discuss the node structure of the radial functions and the quantum numbers of the solutions when there is spin or pseudospin symmetry, which we find to be similar to the well-known solutions of hydrogenic atoms.
