On two non-existence results for Cameron-Liebler $k$-sets in $\mathrm{PG}(n,q)$
Abstract: This paper focuses on non-existence results for Cameron-Liebler $k$-sets. A Cameron-Liebler $k$-set is a collection of $k$-spaces in $\mathrm{PG}(n,q)$ or $\mathrm{AG}(n,q)$ admitting a certain parameter $x$, which is dependent on the size of this collection. One of the main research questions remains the (non-)existence of Cameron-Liebler $k$-sets with parameter $x$. This paper improves two non-e… ▽ More

On $m$-ovoids of $Q^+(7,q)$ with $q$ odd
Abstract: In this paper, we provide a construction of $(q+1)$-ovoids of the hyperbolic quadric $Q^+(7,q)$, $q$ an odd prime power, by glueing $(q+1)/2$-ovoids of the elliptic quadric $Q^-(5,q)$. This is possible by controlling some intersection properties of (putative) $m$-ovoids of elliptic quadrics. It yields eventually $(q+1)$-ovoids of $Q^+(7,q)$ not coming from a $1$-system. Secondly, we also construct… ▽ More

Some non-existence results on $m$-ovoids in classical polar spaces
Abstract: In this paper we develop non-existence results for $m$-ovoids in the classical polar spaces $Q^-(2r+1,q), W(2r-1,q)$ and $H(2r,q^2)$ for $r>2$. In [4] a lower bound on $m$ for the existence of $m$-ovoids of $H(4,q^2)$ is found by using the connection between $m$-ovoids, two-character sets, and strongly regular graphs. This approach is generalized in [3] for the polar spaces… ▽ More

Abstract: In this paper we provide constructive lower bounds on the sizes of the largest partial ovoids of the symplectic polar spaces ${\cal W}(3, q)$, $q$ odd square, $q \not\equiv 0 \pmod{3}$, ${\cal W}(5, q)$ and of the Hermitian polar spaces ${\cal H}(4, q^2)$, $q$ even or $q$ odd square, $q \not\equiv 0 \pmod{3}$, ${\cal H}(6, q^2)$, ${\cal H}(8, q^2)$.

Degree 2 Boolean Functions on Grassmann Graphs
Abstract: We investigate the existence of Boolean degree $d$ functions on the Grassmann graph of $k$-spaces in the vector space $\mathbb{F}_q^n$. For $d=1$ several non-existence and classification results are known, and no non-trivial examples are known for $n \geq 5$. This paper focusses on providing a list of examples on the case $d=2$ in general dimension and in particular for $(n, k)=(6,3)$ and… ▽ More

A modular equality for Cameron-Liebler line classes in projective and affine spaces of odd dimension
Abstract: In this article we study Cameron-Liebler line classes in PG$(n,q)$ and AG$(n,q)$, objects also known as boolean degree one functions. A Cameron-Liebler line class $\mathcal{L}$ is known to have a parameter $x$ that depends on the size of $\mathcal{L}$. One of the main questions on Cameron-Liebler line classes is the (non)-existence of these sets for certain parameters $x$. In particularly it is pr… ▽ More

Cameron-Liebler k-sets in subspaces and non-existence conditions
Abstract: In this article we generalize the concepts that were used in the PhD thesis of Drudge to classify Cameron-Liebler line classes in PG$(n,q), n\geq 3$, to Cameron-Liebler sets of $k$-spaces in PG$(n,q)$ and AG$(n,q)$. In his PhD thesis, Drudge proved that every Cameron-Liebler line class in PG$(n,q)$ intersects every $3$-dimensional subspace in a Cameron-Liebler line class in that subspace. We are u… ▽ More

An algebraic approach to Erdős-Ko-Rado sets of flags in spherical buildings
Abstract: In this paper, oppositeness in spherical buildings is used to define an EKR-problem for flags in projective and polar spaces. A novel application of the theory of buildings and Iwahori-Hecke algebras is developed to prove sharp upper bounds for EKR-sets of flags. In this framework, we can reprove and generalize previous upper bounds for EKR-problems in projective and polar spaces. The bounds are o… ▽ More

The minimum size of a linear set
Abstract: In this paper, we first determine the minimum possible size of an Fq-linear set of rank k in PG(1, q^n). We obtain this result by relating it to the number of directions determined by a linearized polynomial whose domain is restricted to a subspace. We then use this result to find a lower bound on the number of points in an Fq- linear set of rank k in PG(2, q^n). In the case k = n, this confirms a… ▽ More

A combinatorial characterisation of embedded polar spaces
Abstract: Some classical polar spaces admit polar spaces of the same rank as embedded polar spaces (often arisen as the intersection of the polar space with a non-tangent hyperplane). In this article we look at sets of generators that behave combinatorially as the set of generators of such an embedded polar space, and we prove that they are the set of generators of an embedded polar space.

FinInG: a package for Finite Incidence Geometry
Abstract: FinInG is a package for computation in Finite Incidence Geometry. It provides users with the basic tools to work in various areas of finite geometry from the realms of projective spaces to the flat lands of generalised polygons. The algebraic power of GAP is exploited, particularly in its facility with matrix and permutation groups.

On subsets of the normal rational curve
Abstract: A normal rational curve of the $(k-1)$-dimensional projective space over ${\mathbb F}_q$ is an arc of size $q+1$, since any $k$ points of the curve span the whole space. In this article we will prove that if $q$ is odd then a subset of size $3k-6$ of a normal rational curve cannot be extended to an arc of size $q+2$. In fact, we prove something slightly stronger. Suppose that $q$ is odd and $E$ is… ▽ More

Weighted Intriguing Sets in Finite Polar Spaces

We also improve the results of A. Klein on the non-existence of ovoids of Hermitian spaces and hyperbolic quadrics.

Abstract: In this paper, we describe a new infinite family of $\frac{q^{2}-1}{2}$-tight sets in the hyperbolic quadrics $\mathcal{Q}^{+}(5,q)$, for $q \equiv 5 \mbox{ or } 9 \bmod{12}$. Under the Klein correspondence, these correspond to Cameron--Liebler line classes of ${\rm PG}(3,q)$ having parameter $\frac{q^{2}-1}{2}$. Sets of generators blocking all generators in finite classical polar spaces
Abstract: We introduce generator blocking sets of finite classical polar spaces. These sets are a generalisation of maximal partial spreads. We prove a characterization of these minimal sets of the polar spaces Q(2n,q), Q-(2n+1,q) and H(2n,q^2), in terms of cones with vertex a subspace contained in the polar space and with base a generator blocking set in a polar space of rank 2.

On sets of vectors of a finite vector space in which every subset of basis size is a basis II
Abstract: This article contains a proof of the MDS conjecture for $k \leq 2p-2$. That is, that if $S$ is a set of vectors of ${\mathbb F}_q^k$ in which every subset of $S$ of size $k$ is a basis, where $q=p^h$, $p$ is prime and $q$ is not and $k \leq 2p-2$, then $|S| \leq q+1$. It also contains a short proof of the same fact for $k\leq p$, for all $q$.

On large maximal partial ovoids of the parabolic quadric $\q(4,q)$
Abstract: We use the representation $T_2(O)$ for $\q(4,q)$ to show that maximal partial ovoids of $\q(4,q)$ of size $q^2-1$, $q=p^h$, $p$ odd prime, $h > 1$, do not exist. The known maximal partial ovoids of size $q^2-1$ of Q(4,q)
Abstract: We present a description of maximal partial ovoids of size $q^2-1$ of the parabolic quadric $\q(4,q)$ as sharply transitive subsets of $\SL(2,q)$ and show their connection with spread sets. This representation leads to an elegant explicit description of all known examples. We also give an alternative representation of these examples which is related to root systems.
