An accurate detection and tracking of devices such as guiding catheters in live X-ray image acquisitions is an essential prerequisite for endovascular cardiac interventions. This information is leveraged for procedural guidance, e.g., directing stent placements. To ensure procedural safety and efficacy, there is a need for high robustness no failures during tracking. To achieve that, one needs to efficiently tackle challenges, such as: device obscuration by contrast agent or other external devices or wires, changes in field-of-view or acquisition angle, as well as the continuous movement due to cardiac and respiratory motion. To overcome the aforementioned challenges, we propose a novel approach to learn spatio-temporal features from a very large data cohort of over 16 million interventional X-ray frames using self-supervision for image sequence data. Our approach is based on a masked image modeling technique that leverages frame interpolation based reconstruction to learn fine inter-frame temporal correspondences. The features encoded in the resulting model are fine-tuned downstream. Our approach achieves state-of-the-art performance and in particular robustness compared to ultra optimized reference solutions (that use multi-stage feature fusion, multi-task and flow regularization). The experiments show that our method achieves 66.31% reduction in maximum tracking error against reference solutions (23.20% when flow regularization is used); achieving a success score of 97.95% at a 3x faster inference speed of 42 frames-per-second (on GPU). The results encourage the use of our approach in various other tasks within interventional image analytics that require effective understanding of spatio-temporal semantics.

We investigate the interference of high-order perfect optical vortex (POV) beams with different topological charges. Through numerical simulations, we reveal a remarkable phenomenon: kee** the beam width, and beam radius fixed while changing the topological charge, the splitting of the composite POV beam into two distinct individual perfect vortices occurs exactly at the same inter-axial separation. The observed interference pattern exhibits pronounced sensitivity to factors such as axial separation, phase shift, beam radius, and topological charges of the constituent beams. Notably, our findings are contrasted with the interference of high-order Laguerre-Gauss (LG) beams, highlighting that the splitting of composite vortices into their individual components is more rapid in the case of LG beams. Our research provides significant insights into the distinct interference properties of high-order POV beams, presenting potential applications in the fields of optical manipulation and communication systems.

We investigate the use of light beams carrying orbital angular momentum (OAM) in the context of high harmonic generation (HHG) within semiconductor crystals. Our contribution deals with the transfer and conservation of OAM in the strong-field regime, from the driving laser field to the generated harmonics. To this end, in this work, we combine the semiconductor Bloch equations with the thin slab model to simulate the generation of high-order harmonics in semiconductor media and to compute the features of the far-field harmonics. We demonstrate that this theoretical approach is capable of satisfactorily reproduce previously published experimental features of the generated harmonics in ZnO driven by a Laguerre-Gauss beam. Our research not only deepens the understanding of light-solid interactions but also heralds the dawn of bright, structured XUV coherent radiation sources with unparalleled potential across diverse technological areas, paving the way for enhanced functionalities in fields such as microscopy, spectroscopy, and optical communication.

We consider de Branges-Rovnyak spaces of a considerably large class of reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces and find a characterization for them to be complete Nevanlinna-Pick spaces. This extends as well as recovers earlier characterizations obtained for the Hardy space over the unit disc (\cite{Chu}) as well as for the Drury-Arveson space over the unit ball (\cite{Jesse}). Our characterization takes a complete form for the particular cases of the Hardy space over the polydisc and the Bergman space over the disc. We show that a non-trivial de Branges-Rovnyak space, associated to a contractive multiplier, of the Hardy space over the bidisc or the Bergman space over the unit disc is a complete Nevanlinna-Pick space if and only if it is isometrically isomorphic to the Hardy space over the unit disc. On the contrary, it is shown that non-trivial de Branges-Rovnyak spaces of the Hardy space over the $n$-disc with $n\ge 3$ are never complete Nevanlinna-Pick spaces.

The optimal rate at which information can be sent through a quantum channel when the transmitted signal must simultaneously carry some minimum amount of energy is characterized. To do so, we introduce the quantum-classical analogue of the capacity-power function and generalize results in classical information theory for transmitting classical information through noisy channels. We show that the capacity-power function for a quantum channel, for both unassisted and private protocol, is concave and also prove additivity for unentangled and uncorrelated ensembles of input signals. This implies we do not need regularized formulas for calculation. We numerically demonstrate these properties for some standard channel models. We obtain analytical expressions for the capacity-power function for the case of noiseless channels using properties of random quantum states and concentration phenomenon in large Hilbert spaces.

Further, we study the hypercyclicity, mixing, and chaos of $B_w$, and establish the existence of hypercyclic subspaces for $B_w$ by computing its essential spectrum. Similar results are obtained for a function of $B_w$ on $\ell^p_{a,b}$ and $c_{0,a,b}$.

We study operator spreading in many-body quantum systems by its potential to generate an informationally complete measurement record in quantum tomography. We adopt continuous weak measurement tomography for this purpose. We generate the measurement record as a series of expectation values of an observable evolving under the desired dynamics, which can show a transition from integrability to complete chaos. We find that the amount of operator spreading, as quantified by the fidelity in quantum tomography, increases with the degree of chaos in the system. We also observe a remarkable increase in information gain when the dynamics transitions from integrable to nonintegrable. We find our approach in quantifying operator spreading is a more consistent indicator of quantum chaos than Krylov complexity as the latter may correlate/anti-correlate or show no explicit behavior with the level of chaos in the dynamics. We support our argument through various metrics of information gain for two models: the Ising spin chain with a tilted magnetic field and the Heisenberg XXZ spin chain with an integrability-breaking field. Our paper gives an operational interpretation for operator spreading in quantum chaos.

We show that operator tuples in the class dilate to tuples of commuting isometries of BCL type. As a consequence of such an explicit dilation, we show that their von Neumann inequality holds on a one dimensional variety of the closed unit polydisc. On the basis of such a dilation, we prove a commutant lifting theorem of Sarason's type by establishing that every commutant can be lifted to the dilation space in a commuting and norm preserving manner. This further leads us to find yet another class of $n$-tuples $(n\geq 3)$ of commuting contractions each of which possesses isometric dilation.

By considering a multi-weight sequence $\clw$ and $\clw$-hypercontractions we extend Olofsson's work \cite{O} in the multi-variable setting. Model for $\clw$-hypercontractions is obtained by finding their dilations on certain weighted Bergman spaces over the polydisc corresponding to the multi-weight sequence $\clw$. This recovers and provides a different proof of the earlier work of Curto and Vasilescu \cite{CVPoly, CV} for $γ$-contractive multi-operators through a particular choice of multi-weight sequence.

Starting with a solvable Nevanlinna-Pick interpolation problem with the initial data coming from the symmetrized bidisk, this paper studies the corresponding uniqueness set, i.e., the largest set in the domain where all solutions to the problem coincide. It is shown that the uniqueness set coincides with an algebraic variety in the domain. The algebraic variety - canonically constructed from the interpolation data - is called the uniqueness variety. It was shown that the uniqueness variety contains a distinguished variety which by definition is the zero set of a two-variable polynomial that intersects the domain and exits through its distinguished boundary. A complete algebraic and geometric characterizations of distinguished varieties are obtained in this paper.

We present a complete characterization of Beurling quotient modules of $H^2(\mathbb{D}^n)$: Let $\mathcal{Q} \subseteq H^2(\mathbb{D}^n)$ be a closed subspace, and let $C_{z_i} = P_{\mathcal{Q}} M_{z_i}|_{\mathcal{Q}}$, $i=1, \ldots, n$. Then $\mathcal{Q}$ is a Beurling quotient module if and only if \[ (I_{\mathcal{Q}} - C_{z_i}^* C_{z_i}) (I_{\mathcal{Q}} - C_{z_j}^* C_{z_j}) = 0 \qquad (i \neq j). \] We present two applications: first, we obtain a dilation theorem for Brehmer $n$-tuples of commuting contractions, and, second, we relate joint invariant subspaces with factorizations of inner functions. There are three main results in this paper. First, we find an easily computable and simple condition which is necessary and sufficient for a commuting tuple of contractions to possess a non-zero Toeplitz operator. This condition is just that the adjoint of the product of the contractions is not pure. On one hand this brings out the importance of the product of the contractions and on the other hand, the non-pureness turns out to be equivalent to the existence of a pseudo-extension to a tuple of commuting unitaries. The second main result is a commutant pseudo-extension theorem obtained by studying the unique canonical unitary pseudo-extension of a tuple of commuting contractions. The third one is about the $C^*$-algebra generated by the Toeplitz operators determined by a commuting tuple of contractions. With the help of a special completely positive map, a different proof of the existence of the unique canonical unitary pseudo-extension is given.

We always assume that $n \geq 3$. The importance of this class of $n$-tuples stems from the fact that the von Neumann inequality or the existence of isometric dilation does not hold in general for $n$-tuples, $n \geq 3$, of commuting contractions on Hilbert spaces (even in the level of finite dimensional Hilbert spaces). Under some rank-finiteness assumptions, we prove that tuples in $\mathcal{P}_n(\mathcal{H})$ always admit explicit isometric dilations and satisfy a refined von Neumann inequality in terms of algebraic varieties in the closure of the unit polydisc in $\mathbb{C}^n$.

The symmetrized bidisc has been a rich field of holomorphic function theory and operator theory. A certain well-known reproducing kernel Hilbert space of holomorphic functions on the symmetrized bidisc resembles the Hardy space of the unit disc in several aspects. This space is known as the Hardy space of the symmetrized bidisc. We introduce the study of those operators on the Hardy space of the symmetrized bidisc that are analogous to Toeplitz operators on the Hardy space of the unit disc. More explicitly, we first study multiplication operators on a bigger space (an $L^2$-space) and then study compressions of these multiplication operators to the Hardy space of the symmetrized bidisc and prove the following major results:
(1) Theorem I analyzes the Hardy space of the symmetrized bidisc, not just as a Hilbert space, but as a Hilbert module over the polynomial ring and finds three isomorphic copies of it as $\mathbb D^2$-contractive Hilbert modules.
(2) Theorem II provides an algebraic, Brown and Halmos type, characterization of Toeplitz operators.
(3)Theorem III gives several characterizations of an analytic Toeplitz operator.
(4)Theorem IV characterizes asymptotic Toeplitz operators.
(5)Theorem V is a commutant lifting theorem.
(6)Theorem VI yields an algebraic characterization of dual Toeplitz operators.
Every section from Section 1 to Section 6 contains a theorem each, the main result of that section.

Recently, the l0-least mean square (l0-LMS) algorithm has been proposed to identify sparse linear systems by employing a sparsity-promoting continuous function as an approximation of l0 pseudonorm penalty. However, the performance of this algorithm is sensitive to the appropriate choice of the some parameter responsible for the zero-attracting intensity. The optimum choice for this parameter depends on the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) prevailing in the system. Thus, it becomes difficult to fix a suitable value for this parameter, particularly in a situation where SNR fluctuates over time. In this work, we propose several adaptive combinations of differently parameterized l0-LMS to get an overall satisfactory performance independent of the SNR, and discuss some issues relevant to these combination structures. We also demonstrate an efficient partial update scheme which not only reduces the number of computations per iteration, but also achieves some interesting performance gain compared with the full update case. Then, we propose a new recursive least squares (RLS)-type rule to update the combining parameter more efficiently. Finally, we extend the combination of two filters to a combination of M number adaptive filters, which manifests further improvement for M > 2.

The sparsity-aware zero attractor least mean square (ZA-LMS) algorithm manifests much lower misadjustment in strongly sparse environment than its sparsity-agnostic counterpart, the least mean square (LMS), but is shown to perform worse than the LMS when sparsity of the impulse response decreases. The reweighted variant of the ZA-LMS, namely RZA-LMS shows robustness against this variation in sparsity, but at the price of increased computational complexity. The other variants such as the l 0 -LMS and the improved proportionate normalized LMS (IPNLMS), though perform satisfactorily, are also computationally intensive. The gradient comparator LMS (GC-LMS) is a practical solution of this trade-off when hardware constraint is to be considered. In this paper, we analyse the mean and the mean square convergence performance of the GC-LMS algorithm in detail. The analyses satisfactorily match with the simulation results.

Performance analysis of $l_0$ norm constrained Recursive least Squares (RLS) algorithm is attempted in this paper. Though the performance pretty attractive compared to its various alternatives, no thorough study of theoretical analysis has been performed. Like the popular $l_0$ Least Mean Squares (LMS) algorithm, in $l_0$ RLS, a $l_0$ norm penalty is added to provide zero tap attractions on the instantaneous filter taps. A thorough theoretical performance analysis has been conducted in this paper with white Gaussian input data under assumptions suitable for many practical scenarios. An expression for steady state MSD is derived and analyzed for variations of different sets of predefined variables. Also a Taylor series expansion based approximate linear evolution of the instantaneous MSD has been performed. Finally numerical simulations are carried out to corroborate the theoretical analysis and are shown to match well for a wide range of parameters.

In-network distributed estimation of sparse parameter vectors via diffusion LMS strategies has been studied and investigated in recent years. In all the existing works, some convex regularization approach has been used at each node of the network in order to achieve an overall network performance superior to that of the simple diffusion LMS, albeit at the cost of increased computational overhead. In this paper, we provide analytical as well as experimental results which show that the convex regularization can be selectively applied only to some chosen nodes kee** rest of the nodes sparsity agnostic, while still enjoying the same optimum behavior as can be realized by deploying the convex regularization at all the nodes. Due to the incorporation of unregularized learning at a subset of nodes, less computational cost is needed in the proposed approach. We also provide a guideline for selection of the sparsity aware nodes and a closed form expression for the optimum regularization parameter.

In recent times, trilayer graphene has attracted wide attention owing to its stacking and electric field dependent electronic properties. However, a direct and well-resolved experimental visualization of its band structure has not yet been reported. In this work, we present angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) data which show with high resolution the electronic band structure of trilayer graphene obtained on α-SiC(0001) and β-SiC(111) via hydrogen intercalation. Electronic bands obtained from tight-binding calculations are fitted to the experimental data to extract the interatomic hop** parameters for Bernal and rhombohedral stacked trilayers. Low energy electron microscopy (LEEM) measurements demonstrate that the trilayer domains extend over areas of tens of square micrometers, suggesting the feasibility of exploiting this material in electronic and photonic devices. Furthermore, our results suggest that on SiC substrates the occurrence of rhombohedral stacked trilayer is significantly higher than in natural bulk graphite.

In this paper, we present a unified approach to problems of tensor product of quotient modules of Hilbert modules over $\mathbb{C}[z]$ and corresponding submodules of reproducing kernel Hilbert modules over $\mathbb{C}[z_1, \ldots, z_n]$ and the doubly commutativity property of module multiplication operators by the coordinate functions. More precisely, for a reproducing kernel Hilbert module $\clh$ over $\mathbb{C}[z_1, \ldots, z_n]$ of analytic functions on the polydisc in $\mathbb{C}^n$ which satisfies certain conditions, we characterize the quotient modules $\q$ of $\clh$ such that $\q$ is of the form $\q_1 \otimes \cdots \otimes \q_n$, for some one variable quotient modules $\{\q_1, \ldots, \q_n\}$. For $\clh$ the Hardy module over polydisc $H^2(\mathbb{D}^n)$, this reduces to some recent results by Izuchi, Nakazi and Seto and the third author. This is used to obtain a classification of co-doubly commuting submodules for a class of reproducing kernel Hilbert modules over the unit polydisc. These results are applied to compute the cross commutators of co-doubly commuting submodules. This is used to give further insight into the wandering subspaces and ranks of submodules of the Hardy module case. Our results includes the case of weighted Bergman modules over the unit polydisc in $\mathbb{C}^n$.

We present epitaxial graphene (EG) growth on non-polar a-plane and m-plane 6H-SiC faces where material characterization is compared with that known for EG grown on polar faces. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) surface morphology exhibits nanocrystalline graphite like features for non-polar faces, while the polar silicon face shows step like features. This differing behavior is attributed to the lack of a hexagonal template on the non-polar faces. Non-polar faces also exhibit greater disorder and red shift of all Raman peaks (D, G and 2D) with increasing temperature. This is attributed to decreasing stress with increasing temperature. These variations provide evidence of different EG growth mechanisms on non-polar and polar faces, likely due to differences in surface free energy. We also present differences between a-plane EG and m-plane EG in terms of morphology, thickness and Raman characteristics

We investigate molecular adsorption do** by electron withdrawing NO2 and electron donating NH3 on epitaxial graphene grown on C-face SiC substrates. Amperometric measurements show conductance changes upon introduction of molecular adsorbents on epitaxial graphene. Conductance changes are a trade-off between carrier concentration and scattering, and manifest at direct current and optical frequencies. We therefore investigate changes in the infrared (IR) reflection spectra to correlate these two frequency domains, as reflectance changes are due to a change of epitaxial graphene (EG) surface conductance. We match theory with experimental IR data and extract changes in carrier concentration and scattering due to gas adsorption. Finally, we separate the intraband and interband scattering contributions to the electronic transport under gas adsorption. The results indicate that, under gas adsorption, the influence of interband scattering cannot be neglected, even at DC.

Abstract:
We show ~10x polariton-enhanced infrared reflectivity of epitaxial graphene on 4H-SiC, in SiC's restrahlen band (8-10um). By fitting measurements to theory, we extract the thickness, N, in monolayers (ML), momentum scattering time, Fermi level position of graphene and estimate carrier mobility. By showing that 1/root(ns), the carrier concentration/ML, we argue that scattering is dominated by short…

By fitting measurements to theory, we extract the thickness, N, in monolayers (ML), momentum scattering time, Fermi level position of graphene and estimate carrier mobility. By showing that 1/root(ns), the carrier concentration/ML, we argue that scattering is dominated by short-range interactions at the SiC/graphene interface. Polariton formation finds application in near-field optical devices such as superlenses.

A quantitative study was performed to investigate the impact of crystallographic dislocation defects, 21 including screw dislocation, basal plane dislocation, and threading edge dislocation, and their locations in 22 active and JTE region, on the reverse performance of 4H-SiC p-n diodes. It was found that higher leakage 23 current in diodes is associated with basal plane dislocations, while lower breakdown voltage is attributed to 24 screw dislocations. The above influence increases in severity when the dislocation is in the active region than 25 in the JTE region. Furthermore, due to the closed-core nature, the impact of threading edge dislocation on the 26 reverse performance of the p-n diodes is less severe than that of other dislocations although its density is 27 much higher.

The do** dependence of dry thermal oxidation rates in n-type 4H-SiC was investigated. The oxidation was performed in the temperature range 1000C to 1200C for samples with nitrogen do** in the range of 6.5e15/cm3 to 9.3e18/cm3, showing a clear do** dependence. Samples with higher do** concentrations displayed higher oxidation rates. The results were interpreted using a modified Deal-Grove model. Linear and parabolic rate constants and activation energies were extracted. Increasing nitrogen led to an increase in linear rate constant pre-exponential factor from 10-6m/s to 10-2m/s and the parabolic rate constant pre-exponential factor from 10e9m2/s to 10e6m2/s. The increase in linear rate constant was attributed to defects from do**-induced lattice mismatch, which tend to be more reactive than bulk crystal regions. The increase in the diffusion-limited parabolic rate constant was attributed to degradation in oxide quality originating from the do**-induced lattice mismatch. This degradation was confirmed by the observation of a decrease in optical density of the grown oxide films from 1.4 to 1.24. The linear activation energy varied from 1.6eV to 2.8eV, while the parabolic activation energy varied from 2.7eV to 3.3eV, increasing with do** concentration. These increased activation energies were attributed to higher nitrogen content, leading to an increase in effective bond energy stemming from the difference in C-Si (2.82eV) and Si-N (4.26eV) binding energies. This work provides crucial information in the engineering of SiO2 dielectrics for SiC MOS structures, which typically involve regions of very different do** concentrations, and suggests that thermal oxidation at high do** concentrations in SiC may be defect mediated.
