On Hilbert coefficients and sequentially generalized Cohen-Macaulay modules

Abstract: This paper shows that if $R$ is a homomorphic image of a Cohen-Macaulay local ring, then $R$-module $M$ is sequentially generalized Cohen-Macaulay if and only if the difference between Hilbert coefficients and arithmetic degrees for all distinguished parameter ideals of $M$ are bounded. First-principles study on controlling energy gap of graphene using hybrid armchair-zigzag nanostructures

The obtained results show that GNRs junct… ▽ More The electronic and transport properties of hybrid armchair zigzag nanostructures including U-shaped graphene nanoribbons and patterned nanopores structured graphene were studied using combination of density functional theory and non-equilibrium Green function method. The density of state, electron transmission spectra, and molecular orbitals were analyzed. The obtained results show that GNRs junctions tend to open an energy gap when U-shaped structures were formed due to the formation of quasi-bound states at zigzag edges. The size of U shaped structures has enormous influences on the electron transport of the system. We also considered the effect of corner form of the U-shaped GNRs junctions on energy gap opening. It was found that as some carbon atoms are add to the inner corner, the energy gap in U shaped GNRs significantly changed. For patterned nanopores structured graphene, the calculated results show that patterned nanopores enormous influence on electronic and the transport properties though the GNRs junctions, depending on the shape, size, and the number of nanopores. The study suggests that designed tailored graphene systems based on hybrid armchair zigzag nanostructures can be used to control the energy gap of graphene. △ Less

On the index of reducibility of parameter ideals: The stable and limit values

The Pseudo-hyperresolution and Applications

Abstract: Homological algebra techniques can be found in almost all modern areas of mathematics. Many interesting problems in mathematics can be formulated, computed, or can find their equivalence in terms of Ext-groups. For instance, important (co)homology theories, such as the Mac Lane cohomology for rings or the Hochschild and cyclic homology of commutative algebras can be defined as Ext-groups in suitab… ▽ More Homological algebra techniques can be found in almost all modern areas of mathematics. Many interesting problems in mathematics can be formulated, computed, or can find their equivalence in terms of Ext-groups. For instance, important (co)homology theories, such as the Mac Lane cohomology for rings or the Hochschild and cyclic homology of commutative algebras can be defined as Ext-groups in suitable functor categories; homotopical invariants can also gain information from homological data with the help of the unstable Adams spectral sequence, whose input takes the form of Ext-groups in the category of unstable modules over the Steenrod algebra. Therefore, the constructions of explicit injective (projective) resolutions in an abelian category is of great importance. In this article, we introduce a new method, called Pseudo-hyperresolution, to study such constructions. This method originates in the category of unstable modules, and aims at building explicit resolutions for the reduced singular cohomology of spheres. In particular, for all integers $n\geq 0$, we can describe a large range of the minimal injective resolution of the sphere $S^{n}$ based on the Bockstein operation of the Steenrod algebra. Moreover, many classical constructions in algebraic topology, such as the algebraic EHP sequence or the Lambda algebra can be recovered using the Pseudo-hyperresolution method. A particular connection between spheres and the infinite complex projective space is also established. Despite its origin, Pseudo-hyperresolution generalizes to all abelian categories. In particular, many explicit resolutions of classical strict polynomial functors can be reunified in view of Pseudo-hyperresolution. As a consequence, we recover the global dimension of the category of homogeneous strict polynomial functors of finite degree as well as the Mac Lane cohomology of finite fields. △ Less

On the index of reducibility of powers of a standard parameter ideal

Homogeneous strict polynomial functors as unstable modules

For a finitely generated module which is unmixed and faithful, we prove an equivalence of the existence of an arithmetic Macaulayfication and the existence of a p-standard system of parameters; and both are proved to be equivalent to the existence of an arithmetic Macaulayfication on the ground ring. This paper is concerned with a non-negative integer $p_\mathcal F(M)$ which is defined as the least degree of all polynomials in $n_1, ..., n_d$ bounding above the function $$\ell(M/(x_1^{n_1}, ..., x_d^{n_d})M)-\sum_{i=0}^tn_1...n_{d_i}e(x_1,..., x_{d_i};M_i).$$ We prove that $p_\mathcal F(M)$ is independent of the choices of good systems of parameters $\underline x=x_1, ..., x_d$. When $\F$ is the dimension filtration of $M$ we also present some relations between $p_\F(M)$ and the polynomial type of each $M_i/M_{i-1}$ and the dimension of the non-sequentially Cohen-Macaulay locus of $M$. △ Less

Asymptotic stability of certain sets of associated prime ideals of local cohomology modules

A local homology theory for linearly compact modules
