We consider the complexity of the local Hamiltonian problem in the context of fermionic Hamiltonians with $\mathcal N=2 $ supersymmetry and show that the problem remains $\mathsf{QMA}$-complete. Our main motivation for studying this is the well-known fact that the ground state energy of a supersymmetric system is exactly zero if and only if a certain cohomology group is nontrivial. This opens the door to bringing the tools of Hamiltonian complexity to study the computational complexity of a large number of algorithmic problems that arise in homological algebra, including problems in algebraic topology, algebraic geometry, and group theory. We take the first steps in this direction by introducing the $k$-local Cohomology problem and showing that it is $\mathsf{QMA}_1$-hard and, for a large class of instances, is contained in $\mathsf{QMA}$. We then consider the complexity of estimating normalized Betti numbers and show that this problem is hard for the quantum complexity class $\mathsf{DQC}1$, and for a large class of instances is contained in $\mathsf{BQP}$. In light of these results, we argue that it is natural to frame many of these homological problems in terms of finding ground states of supersymmetric fermionic systems. As an illustration of this perspective we discuss in some detail the model of Fendley, Schoutens, and de Boer consisting of hard-core fermions on a graph, whose ground state structure encodes $l$-dimensional holes in the independence complex of the graph. This offers a new perspective on existing quantum algorithms for topological data analysis and suggests new ones.

In particular, it is shown that these define a nontrivial subclass of quantum algorithms with robustness properties typical of supersymmetric systems. Concrete examples, including the supersymmetric SYK model and fermion hard-core models are discussed. Some applications and open questions are suggested.

We study the large $N$ limit of the superconformal index of a large class of 5d $\mathcal{N}=1$ superconformal field theories and show it is given by the square of the partition function on the squashed five-sphere. We show this simple relation implies a Cardy formula in 5d, which is valid in an "extended" regime in which fugacities are finite and $N$ is large. For theories with weakly coupled gravity duals we conjecture this large $N$ Cardy formula universally accounts for the microscopic entropy of spinning black holes in AdS$_{6}$. We check this explicitly for known black hole solutions in massive type IIA and type IIB string theory, carrying two angular momenta and one electric charge, and predict the entropy of black holes carrying multiple electric charges, yet to be constructed. We also discuss large $N$ properties of the $S^{3}_{b}\timesΣ_{\mathfrak{g}}$ partition function, extending previous results to theories with type IIB duals.

We derive the partition function of 5d ${\cal N}=1$ gauge theories on the manifold $S^3_b \times Σ_{\frak g}$ with a partial topological twist along the Riemann surface, $Σ_{\frak g}$. This setup is a higher dimensional uplift of the two-dimensional A-twist, and the result can be expressed as a sum over solutions of Bethe-Ansatz-type equations, with the computation receiving nontrivial non-perturbative contributions. We study this partition function in the large $N$ limit, where it is related to holographic RG flows between asymptotically locally AdS$_6$ and AdS$_4$ spacetimes, reproducing known holographic relations between the corresponding free energies on $S^{5}$ and $S^{3}$ and predicting new ones. We also consider cases where the 5d theory admits a UV completion as a 6d SCFT, such as the maximally supersymmetric ${\cal N}=2$ Yang-Mills theory, in which case the partition function computes the 4d index of general class ${\cal S}$ theories, which we verify in certain simplifying limits. Finally, we comment on the generalization to ${\cal M}_3 \times Σ_{\frak g}$ with more general three-manifolds ${\cal M}_3$ and focus in particular on ${\cal M}_3=Σ_{\frak g'}\times S^{1}$, in which case the partition function relates to the entropy of black holes in AdS$_6$.

In particular, when the UV and IR theories are both even-dimensional we establish exact universal relations between their conformal anomaly coefficients. We also provide strong evidence for similar relations between appropriately defined free energies for RG flows between odd-dimensional theories in the large $N$ limit. Holographically, these RG flows across dimensions are described by asymptotically AdS black branes in a gauged supergravity theory, which we exhibit explicitly. We also discuss the uplift of these solutions to string and M-theory and comment on how the entropy of such black branes is captured by the dual field theory.

We obtain an integral formula for the volume of non-toric tri-Sasaki Einstein manifolds arising from nonabelian hyperkahler quotients. The derivation is based on equivariant localization and generalizes existing formulas for Abelian quotients, which lead to toric manifolds. The formula is particularly valuable in the context of AdS$_{4}\times Y_{7}$ vacua of M-theory and their field theory duals. As an application, we consider 3d $\mathcal N=3$ Chern-Simons theories with affine ADE quivers. While the $\widehat A$ series corresponds to toric $Y_{7}$, the $\widehat D$ and $\widehat E$ series are non-toric. We compute the volumes of the corresponding seven-manifolds and compare to the prediction from supersymmetric localization in field theory, finding perfect agreement. This is the first test of an infinite number of non-toric AdS$_4$/CFT$_3$ dualities.

Yang-Baxter sigma models, proposed by Klimcik and Delduc-Magro-Vicedo, have been recognized as a powerful framework for studying integrable deformations of two-dimensional non-linear sigma models. In this short article, as an important generalization, we review a non-integrable sigma model in the Yang-Baxter sigma model approach based on [arXiv:1406.2249]. In particular, we discuss a family of deformations of the 5D Sasaki-Einstein manifold $T^{1,1}$, instead of the standard deformations of the $5$-sphere S$^5$. For this purpose, we first describe a novel construction of $T^{1,1}$ as a supercoset, and provide a physical interpretation of this construction from viewpoint of the dual Klebanov-Witten field theory. Secondly, we consider a $3$-parameter deformation of $T^{1,1}$ by using classical $r$-matrices satisfying the classical Yang--Baxter equation (CYBE). The resulting metric and NS-NS two-form completely agree with the ones previously obtained via TsT (T-dual -- shift -- T-dual) transformations, and contain the Lunin-Maldacena background as a special case. Our result indicates that what we refer to as the gravity/CYBE(Classical Yang-Baxter Equation) correspondence can be extended beyond integrable cosets.

These models arise from coupling chiral, twisted chiral, and semichiral multiplets to known as well as to a new N=(2,2) vector multiplet, the constrained semichiral vector multiplet (CSVM). We discuss three kinds of models, corresponding to torsionful deformations of standard GLSMs realizing Kahler, hyperkahler, and Calabi-Yau manifolds. The (2,2) supersymmetry guarantees that these spaces are generalized Kahler. Our analysis of the geometric structure is performed at the classical level, but we also discuss quantum aspects such as R-symmetry anomalies. We provide an explicit example of a generalized Kahler structure on the conifold.

Through the AdS/CFT correspondence, this leads to a prediction for the volume of certain tri-Sasaki Einstein manifolds. We also study the unfolding procedure, which relates these D_n quivers to A_{2n-5} quivers. Furthermore, we consider the addition of massive fundamental flavor fields, verifying that integrating these out decreases the free energy in accordance with the F-theorem.

We study the construction of generalized Kahler manifolds, described purely in terms of N=(2,2) semichiral superfields, by a quotient using the semichiral vector multiplet. Despite the presence of a b-field in these models, we show that the quotient of a hyperkahler manifold is hyperkahler, as in the usual hyperkahler quotient. Thus, quotient manifolds with torsion cannot be constructed by this method. Nonetheless, this method does give a new description of hyperkahler manifolds in terms of two-dimensional N=(2,2) gauged non-linear sigma models involving semichiral superfields and the semichiral vector multiplet. We give two examples: Eguchi-Hanson and Taub-NUT. By T-duality, this gives new gauged linear sigma models describing the T-dual of Eguchi-Hanson and NS5-branes. We also clarify some aspects of T-duality relating these models to N=(4,4) models for chiral/twisted-chiral fields and comment briefly on more general quotients that can give rise to torsion and give an example.

It is of general agreement that a quantum gravity theory will most probably mean a breakdown of the standard structure of space-time at the Planck scale. This has motivated the study of Planck-scale Lorentz Invariance Violating (LIV) theories and the search for its observational signals. Yet, it has been recently shown that, in a simple scalar-spinor Yukawa theory, radiative corrections to tree-level Planck-scale LIV theories can induce large Lorentz violations at low energies, in strong contradiction with experiment, unless an unnatural fine-tuning mechanism is present. In this letter, we show the calculation of the electron self-energy in the framework given by the Myers-Pospelov model for a Lorentz Invariance Violating QED. We find a contribution that depends on the prefered's frame four-velocity which is not Planck-scale suppressed, showing that this model suffers from the same disease. Comparison with Hughes-Drever experiments requires a fine-tuning of 21 orders of magnitude for this model not to disagree with experiment.
