Automated extraction of quantitative parameters from Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Images (CMRI) is crucial for the management of patients with myocardial infarct. This work proposes a post-processing procedure to jointly analyze Cine and Delayed-Enhanced (DE) acquisitions in order to provide an automatic quantification of myocardial contraction and enhancement parameters and a study of their relationship. For that purpose, the following processes are performed: 1) DE/Cine temporal synchronization and 3D scan alignment, 2) 3D DE/Cine rigid registration in a region about the heart, 3) segmentation of the myocardium on Cine MRI and superimposition of the epicardial and endocardial contours on the DE images, 4) quantification of the Myocardial Infarct Extent (MIE), 5) study of the regional contractile function using a new index, the Amplitude to Time Ratio (ATR). The whole procedure was applied to 10 patients with clinically proven myocardial infarction. The comparison between the MIE and the visually assessed regional function scores demonstrated that the MIE is highly related to the severity of the wall motion abnormality. In addition, it was shown that the newly developed regional myocardial contraction parameter (ATR) decreases significantly in delayed enhanced regions. This largely automated approach enables a combined study of regional MIE and left ventricular function.

We present MONET, a new multimodal dataset captured using a thermal camera mounted on a drone that flew over rural areas, and recorded human and vehicle activities. We captured MONET to study the problem of object localisation and behaviour understanding of targets undergoing large-scale variations and being recorded from different and moving viewpoints. Target activities occur in two different land sites, each with unique scene structures and cluttered backgrounds. MONET consists of approximately 53K images featuring 162K manually annotated bounding boxes. Each image is timestamp-aligned with drone metadata that includes information about attitudes, speed, altitude, and GPS coordinates. MONET is different from previous thermal drone datasets because it features multimodal data, including rural scenes captured with thermal cameras containing both person and vehicle targets, along with trajectory information and metadata. We assessed the difficulty of the dataset in terms of transfer learning between the two sites and evaluated nine object detection algorithms to identify the open challenges associated with this type of data. We explore the effects of various plasticity functions on assemblies of neurons. To bridge the gap between experimental and computational theories we make use of a conceptual framework, the Assembly Calculus, which is a formal system for the description of brain function based on assemblies of neurons. The Assembly Calculus includes operations for projecting, associating, and merging assemblies of neurons. Our research is focused on simulating different plasticity functions with Assembly Calculus. Our main contribution is the modification and evaluation of the projection operation. We experiment with Oja's and Spike Time-Dependent Plasticity (STDP) rules and test the effect of various hyper-parameters.

Internet of Things (IoT) environments, while beneficial for the IT ecosystem, suffer from inherent hardware limitations, which restrict their ability to implement comprehensive security measures and increase their exposure to vulnerability attacks. This paper proposes a novel Network Intrusion Prevention System that utilises a SelfOrganizing Incremental Neural Network along with a Support Vector Machine. Due to its structure, the proposed system provides a security solution that does not rely on signatures or rules and is capable to mitigate known and unknown attacks in real-time with high accuracy. Based on our experimental results with the NSL KDD dataset, the proposed framework can achieve on-line updated incremental learning, making it suitable for efficient and scalable industrial applications.
