The Bernoulli Property for Geodesic Flow on Flat Surfaces
Abstract: Let $S$ be a compact surface of genus $\geq 2$ equipped with a metric that is flat everywhere except at finitely many cone points with angles greater than $2π$. We examine the geodesic flow on $S$ and prove local product structure for a wide class of equilibrium states. Using this, we establish the Bernoulli property for these systems.

Unique equilibrium states for geodesic flows on flat surfaces with singularities
Abstract: Consider a compact surface of genus $\geq 2$ equipped with a metric that is flat everywhere except at finitely many cone points with angles greater than $2π$. Following the technique in the work of Burns, Climenhaga, Fisher, and Thompson, we prove that sufficiently regular potential functions have unique equilibrium states if the singular set does not support the full pressure. Moreover, we show t… ▽ More

Entropy rigidity for finite volume strictly convex projective manifolds
Abstract: We prove entropy rigidity for finite volume strictly convex projective manifolds in dimensions $\geq 3$, generalizing the work of arXiv:1708.03983 to the finite volume setting. The rigidity theorem uses the techniques of Besson, Courtois, and Gallot's entropy rigidity theorem. It implies uniform lower bounds on the volume of any finite volume strictly convex projective manifold in dimensions… ▽ More

Strong symbolic dynamics for geodesic flow on CAT(-1) spaces and other metric Anosov flows
Abstract: We prove that the geodesic flow on a locally CAT(-1) metric space which is compact, or more generally convex cocompact with non-elementary fundamental group, can be coded by a suspension flow over an irreducible shift of finite type with Hölder roof function. This is achieved by showing that the geodesic flow is a metric Anosov flow, and obtaining Hölder regularity of return times for a special cl… ▽ More

A quantitative shrinking target result on Sturmian sequences for rotations
Abstract: Let $R_α$ be an irrational rotation of the circle, and code the orbit of any point $x$ by whether $R_α^i(x)$ belongs to $[0,α)$ or $[α,1)$ -- this produces a Sturmian sequence. A point is undetermined at step $j$ if its coding up to time $j$ does not determine its coding at time $j+1$. We prove a pair of results on the asymptotic frequency of a point being undetermined, for full measure sets of… ▽ More

Entropy Rigidity and Hilbert Volume
Abstract: For a closed, strictly convex projective manifold of dimension $n\geq 3$ that admits a hyperbolic structure, we show that the ratio of Hilbert volume to hyperbolic volume is bounded below by a constant that depends only on dimension. We also show that for such spaces, if topological entropy of the geodesic flow goes to zero, the volume must go to infinity. These results follow from adapting Besson… ▽ More

Fat flats in rank one manifolds
Abstract: We study closed non-positively curved Riemannian manifolds $M$ which admit `fat $k$-flats': that is, the universal cover $\tilde M$ contains a positive radius neighborhood of a $k$-flat on which the sectional curvatures are identically zero. We investigate how the fat $k$-flats affect the cardinality of the collection of closed geodesics. Our first main result is to construct rank $1$ non-positive… ▽ More

The weak specification property for geodesic flows on CAT(-1) spaces
Abstract: We prove that the geodesic flow on a compact locally CAT(-1) space has the weak specification property, and give various applications. We show that every Hölder potential on the space of geodesics has a unique equilibrium state. We establish the equidistribution of weighted periodic orbits and the large deviations principle for all such measures. The thermodynamic results are proved for the class… ▽ More

Everywhere divergence of the one-sided ergodic Hilbert transform and Liouville numbers
Abstract: We prove some results on the behavior of infinite sums of the form $Σf\circ T^n(x)\frac{1}{n}$, where $T:S^1\to S^1$ is an irrational circle rotation and $f$ is a mean-zero function on $S^1$. In particular, we show that for a certain class of functions $f$, there are Liouville $α$ for which this sum diverges everywhere. On the Hausdorff dimension of CAT($κ$) surfaces
Abstract: We prove that a closed surface with a CAT($κ$) metric has Hausdorff dimension = 2, and that there are uniform upper and lower bounds on the two-dimensional Hausdorff measure of small metric balls. We also discuss a connection between this uniformity condition and some results on the dynamics of the geodesic flow for such surfaces. Marked length spectrum rigidity in nonpositive curvature with singularities
Abstract: Combining several previously known arguments, we prove marked length spectrum rigidity for surfaces with nonpositively curved Riemannian metrics away from a finite set of cone-type singularities with cone angles $>2π$. With an additional condition, we can weaken the requirement on one metric to `no conjugate points.'

Compact forms of homogeneous spaces and higher-rank semisimple group actions
Abstract: This paper proves that there are no compact forms for a large class of homogeneous spaces admitting actions by higher-rank semisimple Lie groups. The proof involves cocycle superrigidity, measure rigidity for unipotent flows, techniques from partially hyperbolic dynamics, and the geometry and pseudo-Riemannian str… ▽ More

Marked length rigidity for one dimensional spaces
Abstract: We prove that for compact, non-contractible, one dimensional geodesic spaces, a version of the marked length spectrum conjecture holds. For a compact one dimensional geodesic space X, we define a subspace Conv(X). When X is non-contractible, we show that X deformation retracts to Conv(X). If two such spaces X, Y have the same marked length spectrum, we prove that Conv(X) and Conv(Y) are isometric… ▽ More
