Abstract:
A measurement of the branching fraction of the decay $B_s^0 \to K_S^0 K_S^0$ is performed using proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5 $fb^{-1}$ collected by the LHCb experiment between 2011 and 2016. The branching fraction is determined to be BR($B_s^0 \to K_S^0 K_S^0$) = [8.3 $\pm$ 1.6 (stat) $\pm$ 0.9 (syst) $\pm$ 0.8 (norm) $\pm$ 0.3 ($f_s/f_d$)]…

This is the most precise measurement of this branching fraction to date.
Furthermore, a measurement of the branching fraction of the decay $B^0 \to K_S^0 K_S^0$ is performed relative to that of the $B_s^0 \to K_S^0 K_S^0$ channel, and is found to be $\frac{BR(B^0 \to K_S^0 K_S^0)}{BR(B_s^0 \to K_S^0 K_S^0)}$ = [7.5 $\pm$ 3.1 (stat) $\pm$ 0.5 (syst) $\pm$ 0.3 ($f_s/f_d$)] $\times 10^{-2}$.

The third uncertainty for the mass is due to imprecise knowledge of the $Λ_b^0$ baryon mass. The new state is consistent with the first radial excitation of the $Λ_b^0$ baryon, the $Λ_b(2S)^0$ resonance. Updated measurements of the masses and the upper limits on the natural widths of the previously observed $Λ_b(5912)^0$ and $Λ_b(5920)^0$ states are also reported.

Rates of $B_s^0 \to D_s^{-} μ^+ ν_μ$ and $B_s^0 \to D_s^{*-} μ^+ ν_μ$ decays are analyzed using hadronic form-factor parametrizations derived either by Caprini, Lellouch and Neubert (CLN) or by Boyd, Grinstein and Lebed (BGL). The measured values of $|V_{cb}|$ are ${(41.4 \pm 0.6 \pm 0.9 \pm 1.2)\times 10^{-3}}$ and ${(42.3 \pm 0.8 \pm 0.9 \pm 1.2)\times 10^{-3}}$ in the CLN and BGL parametrization, respectively. The first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third is due to the external inputs used in the measurement. These results are in agreement with those obtained from decays of $B^+$ and $B^0$ mesons. They are the first determinations of $|V_{cb}|$ at a hadron-collider experiment and the first using $B_s^0$ meson decays.

The natural widths of the three lower mass states are consistent with zero, and the 90% confidence-level upper limits are determined to be ${Γ(Ω_b(6316)^-)<2.8}$ MeV, ${Γ(Ω_b(6330)^-)<3.1}$ MeV and ${Γ(Ω_b(6340)^-)<1.5}$ MeV. The natural width of the $Ω_b(6350)^-$ peak is $1.4^{+1.0}_{-0.8}\pm0.1$ MeV, which is 2.5$σ$ from zero and corresponds to an upper limit of 2.8 MeV. The peaks have local significances ranging from 3.6$σ$ to 7.2$σ$. After accounting for the look-elsewhere effect, the significances of the $Ω_b(6316)^-$ and $Ω_b(6330)^-$ peaks are reduced to 2.1$σ$ and 2.6$σ$ respectively, while the two higher mass peaks exceed 5$σ$. The observed peaks are consistent with expectations for excited $Ω_b^-$ resonances.

The highest significances of $C\!P$ asymmetry are 2.9 standard deviations from triple product asymmetries and 3.0 standard deviations for the energy test method. Once the global $p$-value is considered, all results are consistent with no $C\!P$ violation. Parity violation is observed at a significance of $5.5$ standard deviations for the triple product asymmetry method and $5.3$ standard deviations for the energy test method.

In this paper we describe the different software and hardware elements of a mini-telescope for the detection of cosmic rays and gamma-rays using the Cherenkov light emitted by their induced particle showers in the atmosphere. We estimate the physics reach of the standalone mini-telescope and present some results of the measurements done at the Sauverny Observatory of the University of Geneva and at the Saint-Luc Observatory, which demonstrate the ability of the telescope to observe cosmic rays with energy above about 100 TeV. Such a mini-telescope can constitute a cost-effective out-trigger array that can surround other gamma-ray telescopes or extended air showers detector arrays. Its development was born out of the desire to illustrate to students and amateurs the cosmic ray and gamma-ray detection from ground, as an example of what is done in experiments using larger telescopes. As a matter of fact, a mini-telescope can be used in outreach night events. While outreach is becoming more and more important in the scientific community to raise interest in the general public, the realisation of the mini-telescope is also a powerful way to train students on instrumentation such as photosensors, their associated electronics, acquisition software and data taking. In particular, this mini-telescope uses silicon photomultipliers (SiPM) and the dedicated ASIC, CITIROC.

This report presents results from a background measurement campaign for the CODEX-b proposal undertaken in August, 2018. The data were recorded in the DELPHI side of the LHCb cavern behind a 3.2~m concrete shield wall, during Run~2 proton-proton collisions with the goal of calibrating the simulation for the full CODEX-b detector. The maximum flux rate in the DELPHI side of the cavern was found to be around 0.6~mHz/cm$^2$ across a vertical plane just behind the shield wall, parallel to the beam line. A detailed simulation under development within the LHCb {\tt Gauss} framework is described. This includes shielding elements pertinent for CODEX-b's acceptance -- the LHCb detector, the shield wall and cavern infrastructure. Additional flux from tracks not in the line of sight from the interaction point, but bent by the magnetic fields, are incorporated. Overall, the simulation overestimates the background flux compared to the measurement. Several cross-checks and avenues for further investigations are described.

We present the first results on isospin amplitudes in $b$-baryon decays, using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 8.5 fb$^{-1}$, collected with the LHCb detector in $pp$ collisions at center of mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV. The isospin amplitude ratio $|A_1(Λ_b^0\to J/ψΣ^0)/A_0(Λ_b^0\to J/ψΛ)|$, where the subscript on $A$ indicates the final-state isospin, is measured to be less than 1/21.8 at 95\% confidence level. The differential branching fraction is measured as a function of the $p\overline{p}$ invariant mass using the decay mode $B^{+}\to J/ψK^{+}$ for normalisation. The total branching fraction is measured to be \begin{align*}
\mathcal{B}(B^{+}\to p\overline{p}μ^{+}ν_μ) = (5.27 ^{+0.23}_{-0.24} \pm 0.21 \pm 0.15)\times 10^{-6}, \end{align*} where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third is from the uncertainty on the branching fraction of the normalisation channel.

A four-body amplitude analysis of the $B^- \to D^{*+} π^- π^-$ decay is performed, where fractions and relative phases of the various resonances contributing to the decay are measured. Several quasi-model-independent analyses are performed aimed at searching for the presence of new states and establishing the quantum numbers of previously observed charmed meson resonances. In particular the resonance parameters and quantum numbers are determined for the $D_1(2420)$, $D_1(2430)$, $D_0(2550)$, $D^*_1(2600)$, $D_2(2740)$ and $D^*_3(2750)$ states. The mixing between the $D_1(2420)$ and $D_1(2430)$ resonances is studied and the mixing parameters are measured. The dataset corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 4.7 $fb^{-1}$, collected in proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV with the LHCb detector.

The cross-section for prompt production of $η_c(1S)$ mesons relative to that of the $J/ψ$ meson is measured using the ${p\bar{p}}$ decay mode and is found to be ${σ_{η_c(1S)}/σ_{J/ψ} = 1.69 \pm 0.15 \pm 0.10 \pm 0.18}$. The quoted uncertainties are, in order, statistical, systematic and due to uncertainties on the branching fractions of the ${J/ψ\to p \bar{p}}$ and ${η_c\to p \bar{p}}$ decays. The prompt $η_c(1S)$ production cross-section is determined to be ${σ_{η_c(1S)} = 1.26 \pm 0.11\pm 0.08 \pm 0.14 \,μb}$, where the last uncertainty includes that on the ${J/ψ}$ meson cross-section. The ratio of the branching fractions of $b$-hadron decays to the $η_c(1S)$ and ${J/ψ}$ states is measured to be ${\mathcal{B}_{b\toη_c X}/\mathcal{B}_{b\to J/ψX} = 0.48 \pm 0.03 \pm 0.03 \pm 0.05}$, where the last uncertainty is due to those on the branching fractions of the ${J/ψ\to p \bar{p}}$ and ${η_c\to p \bar{p}}$ decays. The difference between the ${J/ψ}$ and $η_c(1S)$ masses is also determined to be ${113.0 \pm 0.7 \pm 0.1\text{ MeV}}$, which is the most precise single measurement of this quantity to date.

The $D^0$ mesons are required to originate from semileptonic decays of $b$ hadrons, such that the charge of the muon identifies the flavor of the neutral $D$ meson at production. The asymmetries in the effective decay widths of $D^0$ and $\overline{D}^0$ mesons are determined to be $A_Γ(K^+K^-) = ( -4.3 \pm 3.6 \pm 0.5 )\times 10^{-4}$ and $A_Γ(π^+π^-) = ( 2.2 \pm 7.0 \pm 0.8)\times 10^{-4}$, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The results are consistent with $CP$ symmetry and, when combined with previous LHCb results, yield $A_Γ(K^+K^-) = ( -4.4 \pm 2.3 \pm 0.6 )\times 10^{-4}$ and $A_Γ(π^+π^-) = ( 2.5 \pm 4.3 \pm 0.7)\times 10^{-4}$.

This document presents the physics case and ancillary studies for the proposed CODEX-b long-lived particle (LLP) detector, as well as for a smaller proof-of-concept demonstrator detector, CODEX-$β$, to be operated during Run 3 of the LHC. Our development of the CODEX-b physics case synthesizes `top-down' and `bottom-up' theoretical approaches, providing a detailed survey of both minimal and complete models featuring LLPs. Several of these models have not been studied previously, and for some others we amend studies from previous literature: In particular, for gluon and fermion-coupled axion-like particles. We moreover present updated simulations of expected backgrounds in CODEX-b's actively shielded environment, including the effects of shielding propagation uncertainties, high-energy tails and variation in the shielding design. Initial results are also included from a background measurement and calibration campaign. A design overview is presented for the CODEX-$β$ demonstrator detector, which will enable background calibration and detector design studies. Finally, we lay out brief studies of various design drivers of the CODEX-b experiment and potential extensions of the baseline design, including the physics case for a calorimeter element, precision timing, event tagging within LHCb, and precision low-momentum tracking.

The fragmentation-fraction ratio $f_\mathrm{s} / f_u$ is observed to depend on the $\mathrm{B}$-meson transverse momentum with a significance of $6.0\,σ$. This dependency is driven by the 13$\text{ TeV}$ sample ($8.7\,σ$) while the results for the other collision energies are not significant when considered separately. Furthermore the results show a $4.8\,σ$ evidence for an increase of $f_\mathrm{s} / f_u$ as a function of collision energy.

These searches look for $A'\!\to\!μ^+μ^-$ decays using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.5/fb collected with the LHCb detector. Neither search finds evidence for a signal, and 90% confidence-level exclusion limits are placed on the $γ$-$A'$ kinetic-mixing strength. The prompt-like $A'$ search explores the mass region from near the dimuon threshold up to 70 GeV, and places the most stringent constraints to date on dark photons with $214 < m(A') \lesssim 740$ MeV and $10.6 < m(A') \lesssim 30$ GeV. The search for long-lived $A'\!\to\!μ^+μ^-$ decays places world-leading constraints on low-mass dark photons with lifetimes $\mathcal{O}(1)$ ps.

The results of an amplitude analysis of the charmless three-body decay $B^+ \rightarrow π^+π^+π^-$, in which $C\!P$-violation effects are taken into account, are reported. The analysis is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $3 \text{fb}^{-1}$ of $pp$ collisions recorded with the LHCb detector. The most challenging aspect of the analysis is the description of the behaviour of the $π^+ π^-$ S-wave contribution, which is achieved by using three complementary approaches based on the isobar model, the K-matrix formalism, and a quasi-model-independent procedure. Additional resonant contributions for all three methods are described using a common isobar model, and include the $ρ(770)^0$, $ω(782)$ and $ρ(1450)^0$ resonances in the $π^+π^-$ P-wave, the $f_2(1270)$ resonance in the $π^+π^-$ D-wave, and the $ρ_3(1690)^0$ resonance in the $π^+π^-$ F-wave. Significant $C\!P$-violation effects are observed in both S- and D-waves, as well as in the interference between the S- and P-waves. The results from all three approaches agree and provide new insight into the dynamics and the origin of $C\!P$-violation effects in $B^+ \rightarrow π^+π^+π^-$ decays.

Observations are reported of different sources of $CP$ violation from an amplitude analysis of $B^+ \to π^+ π^+ π^-$ decays, based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $3 \; {\rm fb}^{-1}$ of $pp$ collisions recorded with the LHCb detector. A large $CP$ asymmetry is observed in the decay amplitude involving the tensor $f_2(1270)$ resonance, and in addition significant $CP$ violation is found in the $π^+ π^-$ S-wave at low invariant mass. The presence of $CP$ violation related to interference between the $π^+ π^-$ S-wave and the P-wave $B^+ \to ρ(770)^0 π^+$ amplitude is also established; this causes large local asymmetries but cancels when integrated over the phase space of the decay. The results provide both qualitative and quantitative new insights into $CP$-violation effects in hadronic $B$ decays.

The single electron track-reconstruction efficiency is calibrated using a sample corresponding to $1.3~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$of $pp$ collision data recorded with the LHCb detector in 2017. This measurement exploits $B^+\to J/ψ(e^+e^-)K^+$ decays, where one of the electrons is fully reconstructed and paired with the kaon, while the other electron is reconstructed using only the information of the vertex detector. Despite this partial reconstruction, kinematic and geometric constraints allow the $B^+$-meson mass to be reconstructed and the signal to be well separated from backgrounds. This in turn allows the electron reconstruction efficiency to be measured by matching the partial track segment found in the vertex detector to tracks found by LHCb's regular reconstruction algorithms. The agreement between data and simulation is evaluated, and corrections are derived for simulated electrons in bins of kinematics. These correction factors allow LHCb to measure branching fractions involving single electrons with a systematic uncertainty below $1\%$.

The next generation of Cherenkov telescope cameras feature Silicon Photo Multipliers (SiPM), which can guarantee excellent performance and allow for observation also under moonlight, increasing duty-cycle and therefore the physics reach. A 4 m-diameter Davies-Cotton prototype telescope with a 9-degree optical FoV and a 1296-pixel SiPM camera, has been designed to meet the requirements of the next generation of ground-based gamma-ray observatories at the highest energies.
The large-scale production of the telescopes for array deployment has required the development of a fully automated calibration strategy which relies on a dedicated hardware, the Camera Test Setup (CTS). For each camera pixel, the CTS is equipped with two LEDs, one operated in pulsed mode to reproduce signal and one in continuous mode to reproduce night-sky background.
In this contribution we will present the camera calibration strategy, from the laboratory measurement to the on-site monitoring with emphasis on the results obtained with the first camera prototype. In addition, key performances such as charge resolution, time resolution and trigger efficiencies and their degradation with increasing night-sky background level will be presented.

The cross-sections of $ψ(2S)$ meson production in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13~\mathrm{TeV}$ are measured with a data sample collected by the LHCb detector corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $275~p\mathrm{b}^{-1}$. The production cross-sections for prompt $ψ(2S)$ mesons and those for $ψ(2S)$ mesons from $b$-hadron decays ($ψ{(2S)}\mathrm{-from-}b$) are determined as functions of the transverse momentum, $p_{\mathrm{T}}$, and the rapidity, $y$, of the $ψ(2S)$ meson in the kinematic range $2<p_{\mathrm{T}}<20~\mathrm{GeV}/c$ and $2.0<y<4.5$. The production cross-sections integrated over this kinematic region are \begin{equation*} \begin{split} σ(\mbox{prompt }ψ(2S),13~\mathrm{TeV}) &= {1.430 \pm 0.005(\mathrm{stat}) \pm 0.099 (\mathrm{syst})μ\mathrm{b}},\\ σ(ψ(2S)\mathrm{-from-}b,13~\mathrm{TeV})&={0.426 \pm 0.002(\mathrm{stat}) \pm0.030 (\mathrm{syst})μ\mathrm{b}}. \end{split} \end{equation*} A new measurement of $ψ(2S)$ production cross-sections in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7~\mathrm{TeV}$ is also performed using data collected in 2011, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $614~{p\mathrm{b}^{-1}}$.The integrated production cross-sections in the kinematic range $3.5<p_{\mathrm{T}}<14~\mathrm{GeV}/c$ and $2.0<y<4.5$ are \begin{equation*} \begin{split} σ(\mbox{prompt }ψ(2S),7~\mathrm{TeV}) &={0.471 \pm0.001 (\mathrm{stat}) \pm 0.025 (\mathrm{syst})μ\mathrm{b}},\\ σ(ψ(2S)\mathrm{-from-}b,7~\mathrm{TeV}) &={0.126\pm0.001 (\mathrm{stat}) \pm0.008 (\mathrm{syst})μ\mathrm{b}}. \end{split} \end{equation*} All results show reasonable agreement with theoretical calculations.

\begin{eqnarray*}

\end{eqnarray*} with a mass splitting of $Δm = 6.34 \pm 0.32 \pm 0.02\,\mathrm{MeV}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third derives from the knowledge of the mass of the $Λ_b^0$ baryon. A measurement of the time-dependent CP-violating asymmetry in $B_s^0\rightarrowφφ$ decays is presented. Using a sample of proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $5.0$fb$^{-1}$ collected by the $\mbox{LHCb}$ experiment at centre-of-mass energies $\sqrt{s} = 7$ TeV in 2011, 8 TeV in 2012 and 13 TeV in 2015 and 2016, a signal yield of around 9000 $B_s^0\rightarrowφφ$ decays is obtained. The CP-violating phase $φ_s^{s\bar{s}s}$ is measured to be $-0.073 \pm 0.115$(stat)$\pm 0.027$(syst) rad, under the assumption it is independent on the helicity of the $φφ$ decay. In addition, the CP-violating phases of the transverse polarisations under the assumption of CP conservation of the longitudinal phase are measured. The helicity-independent direct CP-violation parameter is also measured, and is found to be $|λ|=0.99 \pm 0.05 $(stat)$ \pm 0.01 $(syst). In addition, $T$-odd triple-product asymmetries are measured. The results obtained are consistent with the hypothesis of CP conservation in $b\rightarrow\bar{s}s\bar{s}$ transitions. Finally, a limit on the branching fraction of the $B^0\rightarrow φφ$ decay is determined to be $\mathcal{B}(B^0\rightarrow φφ)<2.7\times 10^{-8}$ at 90% confidence level.

The significance of the observed signal is in excess of seven standard deviations. It is found that $(58\pm15)\%$ of the decays proceed via the two-body intermediate state $χ_{c1}(3872)Λ(1520)$. The~branching fraction with respect to that of the $Λ_b\rightarrowψ(2S)p K^{-}$ decay mode, where the $ψ(2S)$~meson is reconstructed in the $J/ψπ^+π^-$ final state, is measured to be: \begin{equation*} \frac{Λ_b^0\toχ_{c1}(3872)pK^-}{Λ_b\toψ(2S)p K^-} \times \frac{\mathcal{B}(χ_{c1} \to J/ψπ^+π^-)}{\mathcal{B}(ψ(2S)\to J/ψπ^+π^-)} = \left(5.4 \pm 1.1 \pm 0.2\right)\times 10^{-2}\,, \end{equation*} where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.

The decay-time-dependent $CP$ asymmetry in $B^{0}_{s}\to J/ψK^{+} K^{-}$ decays is measured using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $1.9\,\mathrm{fb^{-1}}$, collected with the LHCb detector at a centre-of-mass energy of $13\,\mathrm{TeV}$ in 2015 and 2016. Using a sample of approximately 117\,000 signal decays with an invariant $K^{+} K^{-}$ mass in the vicinity of the $φ(1020)$ resonance, the $CP$-violating phase $φ_s$ is measured, along with the difference in decay widths of the light and heavy mass eigenstates of the $B^{0}_{s}$-$\bar{B}^{0}_{s}$ system, $ΔΓ_s$. The difference of the average $B^{0}_{s}$ and $B^{0}$ meson decay widths, $Γ_s-Γ_d$, is determined using in addition a sample of $B^{0} \to J/ψK^{+} π^{-}$ decays. The values obtained are $φ_s = -0.083\pm0.041\pm0.006\,\mathrm{rad}$, $ΔΓ_s = 0.077 \pm 0.008 \pm 0.003\, \mathrm{ps^{-1}}$ and $Γ_s-Γ_d = -0.0041 \pm 0.0024 \pm 0.0015\,\mathrm{ps^{-1}}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. These are the most precise single measurements of these quantities to date and are consistent with expectations based on the Standard Model and with a previous LHCb analysis of this decay using data recorded at centre-of-mass energies 7 and 8 TeV. Finally, the results are combined with recent results from $B^{0}_{s}\to J/ψπ^{+} π^{-}$ decays obtained using the same dataset as this analysis, and with previous independent LHCb results.

The charm baryons are reconstructed through the decays $Λ_c^+\to pK^-π^+$, $Ξ_c^+\to pK^-π^+$ and $Ξ_c^0\to pK^-K^-π^+$, and originate from semimuonic decays of beauty baryons. The lifetimes are measured relative to that of the $D^+$ meson, and are determined to be \begin{align*}
τ_{Λ_c^+} &= 203.5\pm1.0\pm1.3\pm1.4~{\rm fs}, \newline
τ_{Ξ_c^+} &= 456.8\pm3.5\pm2.9\pm3.1~{\rm fs}, \newline
τ_{Ξ_c^0} &= 154.5\pm1.7\pm1.6\pm1.0~{\rm fs}, \end{align*} where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the uncertainty in the $D^+$ lifetime. The measurements are approximately 3--4 times more precise than the current world average values. The $Λ_c^+$ and $Ξ_c^+$ lifetimes are in agreement with previous measurements; however, the $Ξ_c^0$ baryon lifetime is approximately 3.3 standard deviations larger than the world average value.

The first amplitude analysis of the $B^\pm \to π^\pm K^+ K^-$ decay is reported based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb$^{-1}$ of $pp$ collisions recorded in 2011 and 2012 with the LHCb detector. The data is found to be best described by a coherent sum of five resonant structures plus a nonresonant component and a contribution from $ππ\leftrightarrow KK$ $S$-wave rescattering. The dominant contributions in the $π^\pm K^\mp$ and $K^{+}K^{-}$ systems are the nonresonant and the $B^\pm \to ρ(1450)^{0}π^{\pm}$ amplitudes, respectively, with fit fractions around $30\%$. For the rescattering contribution, a sizeable fit fraction is observed. This component has the largest $CP$ asymmetry reported to date for a single amplitude of $(-66 \pm 4 \pm 2)\%$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. No significant $CP$ violation is observed in the other contributions.

An untagged and time-integrated amplitude analysis of $B^0_{(s)} \to (K^+π^-)(K^-π^+) $ decays in two-body invariant mass regions of 150 MeV$/c^2$ around the $K^{*0}$ mass is performed. A stronger longitudinal polarisation fraction in the ${B^0 \to K^{*0} \overline{K}^{*0}}$ decay, ${f_L = 0.724 \pm 0.051 \,({\rm stat}) \pm 0.016 \,({\rm syst})}$, is observed as compared to ${f_L = 0.240 \pm 0.031 \,({\rm stat}) \pm 0.025 \,({\rm syst})}$ in the ${B^0_s\to K^{*0} \overline{K}^{*0}}$ decay. The ratio of branching fractions of the two decays is measured and used to determine $\mathcal{B}(B^0 \to K^{*0} \overline{K}^{*0}) = (8.0 \pm 0.9 \,({\rm stat}) \pm 0.4 \,({\rm syst})) \times 10^{-7}$.

For this search, the $τ$ lepton is reconstructed in the $τ^{-}\toπ^{-}π^{+}π^{-}ν_τ$ channel. No significant signal is observed. Assuming no contribution from $B^{0}\toτ^{\pm}μ^{\mp}$ decays, an upper limit is set on the $B^{0}_{s}\toτ^{\pm}μ^{\mp}$ branching fraction of $\mathcal{B}\left( B^{0}_{s}\toτ^{\pm}μ^{\mp}\right) < 4.2\times 10^{-5}$ at $95\%$ confidence level. If instead no contribution from $B^{0}_{s}\toτ^{\pm}μ^{\mp}$ decays is assumed, a limit of $\mathcal{B}\left( B^{0}\toτ^{\pm}μ^{\mp}\right) < 1.4\times 10^{-5}$ is obtained at $95\%$ confidence level. These are the first limit on $\mathcal{B}\left( B^{0}_{s}\toτ^{\pm}μ^{\mp}\right)$ and the world's best limit on $\mathcal{B}\left( B^{0}\toτ^{\pm}μ^{\mp}\right)$.

The measurement is based on a sample of $pp$ collision data recorded with the LHCb detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb$^{-1}$ at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. The measured values are \begin{align*} S_{φγ} &= 0.43 \pm 0.30 \pm 0.11, \\ C_{φγ} &= 0.11 \pm 0.29 \pm 0.11, \\ \mathcal{A}^Δ_{φγ} &= -0.67 \, ^{+0.37}_{-0.41} \pm 0.17, \end{align*} where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. This is the first measurement of the observables $S$ and $C$ in radiative $B_s^0$ decays. The results are consistent with the Standard Model predictions.

The production of charged hadrons within jets recoiling against a $Z$ boson is measured in proton-proton collision data at $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV recorded by the LHCb experiment. The charged-hadron structure of the jet is studied longitudinally and transverse to the jet axis for jets with transverse momentum $p_{\mathrm{T}}>20$ GeV and in the pseudorapidity range $2.5<η<4$. These are the first measurements of jet hadronization at these forward rapidities and also the first where the jet is produced in association with a $Z$ boson. In contrast to previous hadronization measurements at the Large Hadron Collider, which are dominated by gluon jets, these measurements probe predominantly light-quark jets which are found to be more longitudinally and transversely collimated with respect to the jet axis when compared to the previous gluon dominated measurements. Therefore, these results provide valuable information on differences between quarks and gluons regarding nonperturbative hadronization dynamics.

Proximity of the $Σ_c^+\bar{D}^{0}$ and $Σ_c^+\bar{D}^{*0}$ thresholds to the observed narrow peaks suggests that they play an important role in the dynamics of these states.

The observed peak has a mass of $6841.2 \pm 0.6 {\,\rm (stat)\,} \pm 0.1 {\,\rm (syst)\,} \pm 0.8\,(B_c^+) \mathrm{\,MeV}/c^2$, where the last uncertainty is due to the limited knowledge of the $B_c^+$ mass. It is consistent with expectations of the $B_c^{*}(2^{3}S_{1})^+$ state reconstructed without the low-energy photon from the $B_c^{*}(1^{3}S_{1})^+ \to B_c^+ γ$ decay following $B_c^{*}(2^{3}S_{1})^+ \to B_c^{*}(1^{3}S_{1})^+ π^+ π^-$. A second state is seen with a global (local) statistical significance of $2.2\,σ$ ($3.2\,σ$) and a mass of $6872.1 \pm 1.3 {\,\rm (stat)\,} \pm 0.1 {\,\rm (syst)\,} \pm 0.8\,(B_c^+) \mathrm{\,MeV}/c^2$, and is consistent with the $B_c(2^{1}S_{0})^+$ state. A search for charge-parity ($C\!P$) violation in $D^0 \to K^- K^+$ and $D^0 \to π^- π^+$ decays is reported, using $pp$ collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6 $\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ collected at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with the LHCb detector. The flavor of the charm meson is inferred from the charge of the pion in $D^*(2010)^+ \to D^0 π^+$ decays or from the charge of the muon in $\overline{B} \to D^0 μ^-\barν_μX$ decays. The difference between the $C\!P$ asymmetries in $D^0 \to K^- K^+$ and $D^0 \to π^- π^+$ decays is measured to be $ΔA_{C\!P} = [ -18.2 \pm 3.2\,(\rm stat.) \pm 0.9\,(\rm syst.) ] \times 10^{-4}$ for $π$-tagged and $ΔA_{C\!P} = [ -9 \pm 8\,(\rm stat.) \pm 5\,(\rm syst.) ] \times 10^{-4} $ for $μ$-tagged $D^0$ mesons. Combining these with previous LHCb results leads to $$ΔA_{C\!P} = ( -15.4 \pm 2.9) \times 10^{-4},$$ where the uncertainty includes both statistical and systematic contributions. The measured value differs from zero by more than five standard deviations. This is the first observation of $C\!P$ violation in the decay of charm hadrons.

A search for $CP$ violation in charmless four-body decays of $Λ_b$ and $Ξ_b^0$ baryons with a proton and three charged mesons in the final state is performed. To cancel out production and detection charge-asymmetry effects, the search is carried out by measuring the difference between the $CP$ asymmetries in a charmless decay and in a decay with an intermediate charmed baryon with the same particles in the final state. The data sample used was recorded in 2011 and 2012 with the LHCb detector and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of $3 {\rm fb}^{-1}$. A total of 18 $CP$ asymmetries are considered, either accounting for the full phase space of the decays or exploring specific regions of the decay kinematics. No significant $CP$-violation effect is observed in any of the measurements.

Abstract:
Decays of $B_{s}^{0}$ and $\overline{B}{}_{s}^{0}$ mesons into $J/ψπ^+π^-$ final states are studied in a data sample corresponding to 1.9 fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity collected with the LHCb detector in 13 TeV $pp$ collisions. A time-dependent amplitude analysis is used to determine the final-state resonance contributions, the $CP$-violating phase $φ_s=-0.057\pm 0.060\pm 0.011$ rad, the deca…

A time-dependent amplitude analysis is used to determine the final-state resonance contributions, the $CP$-violating phase $φ_s=-0.057\pm 0.060\pm 0.011$ rad, the decay-width difference between the heavier mass $B_{s}^{0}$ eigenstate and the $B^{0}$ meson of $-0.050\pm 0.004\pm 0.004$ ps$^{-1}$, and the $CP$-violating parameter $|λ|=1.01_{-0.06}^{+0.08}\pm0.03$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. These results are combined with previous LHCb measurements in the same decay channel using 7 TeV and 8 TeV $pp$ collisions obtaining $φ_s =0.002\pm0.044\pm0.012$ rad, and $|λ| =0.949\pm0.036\pm0.019$.

Particles beyond the Standard Model (SM) can generically have lifetimes that are long compared to SM particles at the weak scale. When produced at experiments such as the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, these long-lived particles (LLPs) can decay far from the interaction vertex of the primary proton-proton collision. Such LLP signatures are distinct from those of promptly decaying particles that are targeted by the majority of searches for new physics at the LHC, often requiring customized techniques to identify, for example, significantly displaced decay vertices, tracks with atypical properties, and short track segments. Given their non-standard nature, a comprehensive overview of LLP signatures at the LHC is beneficial to ensure that possible avenues of the discovery of new physics are not overlooked. Here we report on the joint work of a community of theorists and experimentalists with the ATLAS, CMS, and LHCb experiments --- as well as those working on dedicated experiments such as MoEDAL, milliQan, MATHUSLA, CODEX-b, and FASER --- to survey the current state of LLP searches at the LHC, and to chart a path for the development of LLP searches into the future, both in the upcoming Run 3 and at the High-Luminosity LHC. The work is organized around the current and future potential capabilities of LHC experiments to generally discover new LLPs, and takes a signature-based approach to surveying classes of models that give rise to LLPs rather than emphasizing any particular theory motivation. We develop a set of simplified models; assess the coverage of current searches; document known, often unexpected backgrounds; explore the capabilities of proposed detector upgrades; provide recommendations for the presentation of search results; and look towards the newest frontiers, namely high-multiplicity "dark showers", highlighting opportunities for expanding the LHC reach for these signals.
