Abstract:
We investigate Q-balls in a 1+1 dimensional complex scalar field theory. We find that the relaxation of a squashed Q-ball is dominated by the decay of a normal mode through nonlinear coupling to scattering modes and a long-lasting quasi-normal mode. We also study how these Q-balls behave when exposed to scalar radiation, finding that for certain conditions they can experience negative radiation pr…

Negative radiation pressure in the abelian Higgs model

Interactions of small-amplitude monochromatic plane waves with domain walls in (1+1) dimensional abelian Higgs model with a sextic potential were studied. The effective force exerted on a domain wall was derived from a linearized equation and compared with numerical simulations of the original model. It was shown that the domain walls always accelerate in one direction, regardless of the direction of the incoming wave. This implies that in some cases an effect called negative radiation pressure is observed, i.e. instead of pushing, the wave pulls the soliton.

In two-component non-linear Schrödinger equations, the force exerted by incident monochromatic plane waves on an embedded dark soliton and on dark-bright-type solitons is investigated, both perturbatively and by numerical simulations. When the incoming wave is non-vanishing only in the orthogonal component to that of the embedded dark soliton, its acceleration is in the opposite direction to that of the incoming wave. This somewhat surprising phenomenon can be attributed to the well known "negative effective mass" of the dark soliton. When a dark-bright soliton, whose effective mass is also negative, is hit by an incoming wave non-vanishing in the component corresponding to the dark soliton, the direction of its acceleration coincides with that of the incoming wave. This implies that the net force acting on it is in the opposite direction to that of the incoming wave. This rather counter-intuitive effect is a yet another manifestation of negative radiation pressure exerted by the incident wave, observed in other systems. When a dark-bright soliton interacts with an incoming wave in the component of the bright soliton, it accelerates in the opposite direction, hence the force is "pushing" it now. We expect that these remarkable effects, in particular the negative radiation pressure, can be experimentally verified in Bose-Einstein condensates.

Abstract:
We analyze the perturbative Relativistic Moduli Space approach, where the amplitudes of the Derrick modes are promoted to collective coordinates. In particular, we analyse the possibility to calculate the critical velocity, i.e., the initial velocity of kinks at which single bounce scattering changes into a multi-bounce or annihilation collision, in the resulting Collective Coordinate Model (CCM).…

We analyze the perturbative Relativistic Moduli Space approach, where the amplitudes of the Derrick modes are promoted to collective coordinates. In particular, we analyse the possibility to calculate the critical velocity, i.e., the initial velocity of kinks at which single bounce scattering changes into a multi-bounce or annihilation collision, in the resulting Collective Coordinate Model (CCM). We find that for a growing number of modes the critical velocity of the CCM approaches the full field theory value. This is verified in the case of the $φ^4$ model, where we reach a $99\%$ accuracy. We also see such a convergence for a wide range of models belonging to the family of the double sine-Gordon and Christ-Lee theories, especially in those cases where the kinks do not reveal a too well pronounced half-kink inner structure.

Abstract:
We show that in some kink-antikink (KAK) collisions sphalerons, i.e., unstable static solutions - rather than the asymptotic free soliton states - can be the source of the internal degrees of freedom (normal modes) which trigger the resonance phenomenon responsible for the fractal structure in the final state formation.

Abstract:
We review a procedure of factorizing the Minkowski space Dirac operator over a~suitable superspace, discuss its Euclidean space version and apply the worked out formalism in the case od an almost-commutative Dirac operator. The presented framework is an attempt to reconcile non-commutative geometry and supersymmetry.
