On the existence, uniqueness and regularity of solutions of a viscoelastic Stokes problem modelling salt rocks
Abstract: A Stokes-type problem for a viscoelastic model of salt rocks is considered, and existence, uniqueness and regularity are investigated in the scale of $L^2$-based Sobolev spaces. The system is transformed into a generalized Stokes problem, and the proper conditions on the parameters of the model that guarantee that the system is uniformly elliptic are given. Under those conditions, existence, uniqu… ▽ More

Two-species Bose-Einstein condensate in an optical lattice: analytical approximate formulæ
Abstract: Employing a general variational method and perturbation theory, we derived explicit solutions for the description of one-dimensional two species Bose-Einstein condensates confined by a harmonic trap potential in an optical lattice. We consider the system of two coupled Gross-Pitaevkii equations (GPE) and derive explicit expressions for the chemical potentials and wavefunctions in terms of the atom… ▽ More

Dam** of Confined Excitations Modes of 1D Condensates in an Optical Lattice
Abstract: We study the dam** of the collective excitations of Bose-Einstein condensates in a harmonic trap potential loaded in an optical lattice. In the presence of a confining potential the system is non-homogeneous and the collective excitations are characterized by a set of discrete confined phonon-like excitations. We derive a general convenient analytical description for the dam** rate, which take… ▽ More

Existence of standing waves for the complex Ginzburg-Landau equation
Abstract: We prove the existence of non-trivial standing wave solutions of the complex Ginzburg-Landau equation $φ_t - e^{iθ}(ρI- Δ) \varphi - e^{iγ} |φ|^α\varphi =0 $ in $\Rn$, where $(N-2)α<4$, $θ,γ\in (-π/2,π/2)$ and $ρ>0$. Analogous result is obtained in a ball $Ω\in\Rn$ for $ρ>-λ_1$, where $λ_1$ is the first eigenvalue of the Laplace operator with Dirichlet boundary conditions.

One-dimension cubic-quintic Gross-Pitaevskii equation in Bose-Einstein condensates in a trap potential
Abstract: By means of new general variational method we report a direct solution for the quintic self-focusing nonlinearity and cubic-quintic 1D Gross Pitaeskii equation (GPE) in a harmonic confined potential. We explore the influence of the 3D transversal motion generating a quintic nonlinear term on the ideal 1D pure cigar-like shape model for the attractive and repulsive atom-atom interaction in Bose Ein… ▽ More

Numerical simulation of salt migration -- Large deformation in viscoelastic solid bodies
Abstract: We consider instability of a two layered solid body of a denser material on top of a lighter one. This problem is widely known to geoscientist in sediment-salt migration as salt diapirism. In the literature, this problem has often been treated as Raleigh-Taylor instability in viscous fluids instead of solid bodies. In this paper, we propose a successive linear approximation method for large deform… ▽ More

Mathematical analysis of successive linear approximation for Mooney-Rivlin material model in finite elasticity
Abstract: For calculating large deformations in finite elasticity, we have proposed a method of successive linear approximation, by considering the relative descriptional formulation. In this article we briefly describe this method and we prove the existence and uniqueness of weak solutions for boundary value problems for nearly incompressible Mooney-Rivlin materials, that arise in each step of the method.

Bose-Einstein condensates in optical lattices: mathematical analysis and analytical approximate formulae
Abstract: We show that the Gross-Pitaevskii equation with cubic nonlinearity, as a model to describe the one dimensional Bose-Einstein condensates loaded into a harmonically confined optical lattice, presents a set of ground states which is orbitally stable for any value of the self-interaction (attractive and repulsive) parameter and laser intensity. We also derive a new formalism which gives explicit expr… ▽ More

Identification of the coefficients in the linear Boltzmann equation by a finite number of boundary measurements
Abstract: In this paper we consider an inverse problem for the time dependent linear Boltzmann equation. It concerns the identification of the coefficients via a finite number of measurements on the boundary. We prove that the total extinction coefficient and the collision kernel can be uniquely determined by at most k measurements on the boundary, provided that these coefficients belong to a finite k-dimen… ▽ More
