We study charmless two-body baryonic $B$ decays using the topological amplitude approach. We extend a previous work to include all ground state octet and decuplet final states with full topological amplitudes. Relations on rates and CP asymmetries are obtained. The number of independent topological amplitudes is significantly reduced in the large $m_B$ asymptotic limit. With the long awaited $\overline B{}^0\to p\bar p$ data, we can finally extract information on the topological amplitudes and predict rates of all other modes. The predicted rates are in general with uncertainties of a factor of two by including corrections to the asymptotic relations and from sub-leading contributions. We point out some modes that will cascadely decay to all charged final states and have large decay rates. For example, $\overline B {}^0_s\toΩ^-\overline{Ω^-}$, $B^-\to p\overline{Δ^{++}}$, $B^-\to Λ\bar p$ and $\overline B{}^0_s\to Λ\overlineΛ$ decays are interesting modes to search for. We find that the $\overline B{}^0\to p\bar p$ mode is the most accessible one among octet-anti-octet final states in the $ΔS=0$ transition. It is not surprise that it is the first one being found. With the detection of $π^0$ and/or $γ$ many other unsuppressed modes can be searched for. The predicted $\overline B{}^0_s\to p\bar p$ rate is several order smaller than the present experimental result. The central value of the experimental result can be reproduced only with unnaturally scaled up "subleading contributions", which will affect other modes including the $\overline B{}^0\to p\bar p$ decay. We need more data to clarify the situation. The analysis presented in this work can be systematically improved when more measurements on decay rates become available.

We report low-temperature transport spectroscopy of a graphene quantum dot fabricated by atomic force microscope nanolithography. The excellent spatial resolution of the atomic force microscope allows us to reliably fabricate quantum dots with short constrictions of less than 15 nm in length. Transport measurements demonstrate that the device is dominated by a single quantum dot over a wide gate range. The electron spin system of the quantum dot is investigated by applying an in-plane magnetic field. The results are consistent with a Lande g-factor of 2 but no regular spin filling sequence is observed, most likely due to disorder.

Charmless three-body decays of B mesons is studied using a simple model based on the framework of the factorization approach. Hadronic three-body decays receive both resonant and nonresonant contributions. Dominant nonresonant contributions to tree-dominated three-body decays arise from the $b\to u$ tree transition which can be evaluated using heavy meson chiral perturbation theory valid in the soft meson limit. For penguin-dominated decays, nonresonant signals come mainly from the penguin amplitude governed by the matrix elements of scalar densities $<M_1M_2|\bar q_1 q_2|0>$. We use the measurements of $\bar B^0\to K_SK_SK_S$ to constrain the nonresonant component of $<K\bar K|\bar ss|0>$. The intermediate vector meson contributions to three-body decays are identified through the vector current, while the scalar meson resonances are mainly associated with the scalar density. While the calculated direct CP violation in $B^-\to K^+K^-K^-$ and $B^-\to π^+π^-π^-$ decays agrees well with experiment in both magnitude and sign, the predicted CP asymmetries in $B^-\to π^- K^+K^-$ and $B^-\to K^-π^+π^-$ are wrong in signs when confronted with experiment. It has been conjectured recently that a possible resolution to this CP puzzle may rely on final-state rescattering of $π^+π^-$ and $K^+K^-$. Assuming a large strong phase associated with the matrix element $<Kπ|\bar sq|0>$ arising from some sort of power corrections, we fit it to the data of $K^-π^+π^-$ and find a correct sign for $π^- K^+K^-$.

The dual use of radio signals for simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) has recently drawn significant attention. To meet the practical requirement that energy receivers (ERs) operate with much higher received power than information receivers (IRs), ERs need to be deployed closer to the transmitter than IRs. However, due to the broadcast nature of wireless channels, one critical issue is that the messages sent to IRs cannot be eavesdropped by ERs, which possess better channels from the transmitter. In this paper, we address this new secrecy communication problem in a multiuser multiple-input single-output (MISO) SWIPT system where a multi-antenna transmitter sends information and energy simultaneously to one IR and multiple ERs, each with a single antenna. By optimizing transmit beamforming vectors and their power allocation, we maximize the weighted sum-energy transferred to ERs subject to a secrecy rate constraint for the information sent to the IR. We solve this non-convex problem optimally by reformulating it into a two-stage problem. First, we fix the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) at the IR and obtain the optimal beamforming solution by applying the technique of semidefinite relaxation (SDR). Then the original problem is solved by a one-dimension search over the optimal SINR value for the IR. Furthermore, two suboptimal low-complexity beamforming schemes are proposed, and their achievable (secrecy) rate-energy (R-E) regions are compared against that by the optimal scheme.

We study pure weak eigenstate Dirac fermionic dark matters (DM). We consider WIMP with renormalizable interaction. According to results of direct searches and the nature of DM (electrical neutral and being a pure weak eigenstate), the quantum number of DM is determined to be $I_3=Y=0$. There are only two possible cases: either DM has non-vanishing weak isospin ($I\neq 0$) or it is an isosinglet (I=0). In the first case, the Sommerfeld enhancement is sizable for large $I$, producing large $χ^0\bar{χ^0}\to VV$ rates. In particular, we obtain large $χ\barχ\to W^+ W^-$ cross section, which is comparable to the latest bounds from indirect searches and $m_χ$ is constrained to be larger than few hundred GeV to few TeV. It is possible to give correct relic density with $m_χ$ higher than these lower bounds. In the second case, to couple DM to standard model (SM) particles, a SM-singlet vector mediator $X$ is required from renormalizability and the SM gauge quantum numbers. To satisfy the latest bounds of direct searches and to reproduce the DM relic density at the same time, resonant enhancement in DM annihilation diagram is needed. Thus, the masses of DM and the mediator are related. Furthermore, this model is not sufficient to explain the deviation in muon $g-2$.

Considering two different scenarios for scalar mesons above 1 GeV, we find that the data favor the scenario in which the scalars $a_0(1450)$ and $K_0^*(1430)$ are the lowest lying $q\bar q$ bound states. This in turn implies a preferred four-quark nature for light scalars below 1 GeV. Assuming $K_0^*(1430)$ being a lowest lying $q\bar s$ state, we show that the data of $B\to K_0^*(1430)η^{(')}$ and $B\to K_0^*(1430)(ρ,ω,φ)$ can be accommodated in QCDF without introducing power corrections induced from penguin annihilation, while the predicted $B^-\to \ov K_0^{*0}(1430)π^-$ and $\ov B^0\to K_0^{*-}(1430)π^+$ are too small compared to experiment. In principle, the data of $K_0^*(1430)π$ modes can be explained if penguin-annihilation induced power corrections are taken into account. However, this will destroy the agreement between theory and experiment for $B\to K_0^*(1430)(η^{(')},ρ,ω,φ)$. Contrary to the pseudoscalar meson sector where $B\to Kη'$ has the largest rate in 2-body decays of the $B$ meson, we show that $Br(B\to K_0^*η')<\B(B\to K_0^*η)$. The decay $\ov B^0\to a_0(980)^+K^-$ is found to have a rate much smaller than that of $\ov B^0\to a_0(980)^+π^-$ in QCDF, while it is the other way around in pQCD. Experimental measurements of these two modes will help discriminate between these two different approaches. Assuming 2-quark bound states for $f_0(980)$ and $f_0(500)$, the observed large rates of $f_0(980)K$ and $f_0(980)K^*$ modes can be explained in QCDF with the $f_0(980)\!-\!f_0(500)$ mixing angle $θ$ in the vicinity of $20^\circ$.

Single electron pumps are set to revolutionize electrical metrology by enabling the ampere to be re-defined in terms of the elementary charge of an electron. Pumps based on lithographically-fixed tunnel barriers in mesoscopic metallic systems and normal/superconducting hybrid turnstiles can reach very small error rates, but only at MHz pum** speeds corresponding to small currents of the order 1 pA. Tunable barrier pumps in semiconductor structures have been operated at GHz frequencies, but the theoretical treatment of the error rate is more complex and only approximate predictions are available. Here, we present a monolithic, fixed barrier single electron pump made entirely from graphene. We demonstrate pump operation at frequencies up to 1.4 GHz, and predict the error rate to be as low as 0.01 parts per million at 90 MHz. Combined with the record-high accuracy of the quantum Hall effect and proximity induced Josephson junctions, accurate quantized current generation brings an all-graphene closure of the quantum metrological triangle within reach. Envisaged applications for graphene charge pumps outside quantum metrology include single photon generation via electron-hole recombination in electrostatically doped bilayer graphene reservoirs, and for readout of spin-based graphene qubits in quantum information processing.

We study the implications of the experimental results on the μ-> eγdecay rate and the muon anomalous magnetic moment, on muonic lepton flavor violating processes, such as μ-> 3 e and μN -> e N. We use a model independent approach in this analysis, where these processes are considered to be loop induced by exchanging spin 1/2 and spin 0 particles. We explore two complementary cases, which has no or has an internal (built-in) cancellation mechanism in amplitudes. Our main results are as following. (a) Bounds from rates are used to constrain parameters, such as coupling constants and masses. These constraints can be easily updated by simple scalings, if the experimental situations change. (b) The muon g-2 data favors non-chiral interactions. (c) In μ-> 3 e and μN -> e N processes, Z-penguin diagrams may play some role, while box diagrams contributions are usually highly constrained. (d) In the first case (without any built-in cancellation mechanism), using the recent μ-> eγbound, we find that μ-> 3e and μN -> e N rates are bounded below the present experimental limits by two to three orders of magnitudes in general. Furthermore, by comparing Δa_μand Br(μ->eγ) data, the couplings of μand e are found to be highly hierarchical. Additional suppression mechanism should be called for. (e) In the second case (with a built-in cancellation mechanism), mixing angles can provide additional suppression factors to satisfy the Δa_μand Br(μ-> eγ) bounds. While the μ-> 3 e rate remains suppressed, the bounds on μN -> e N rates, implicated from the latest μ-> eγbound, can be relaxed significantly and can be just below the present experimental limits.

We estimate the long-distance contribution to the ΔΓs of B_s system, based mainly on two-body D^(*)_s\Dbar^(*)_s modes and three-body D^(*)_s\Dbar^(*)\Kbar^(*) modes (and their CP conjugates). Some higher c\bar{s} resonances are also considered. The contribution to ΔΓs/Γs by two-body modes is 10.2+-3.0%, slightly smaller than the short-distance result of 13.3+-3.2%. The contribution to width difference by D*_s0(2317), D_s1(2460), and D_s1(2536) resonances is negligible. For the three-body modes, we adopt the factorization formalism and model the form factors with off-shell D^(*)_s poles, the D_{sJ}(2700) resonance, and non-resonant (NR) contributions. These three-body modes can arise through current-produced or transition diagrams, but only SU(3)-related D^(*)_{u,d} \Dbar^(*)\Kbar modes from current diagram have been measured so far. The pole model results for D^*_{u,d} \Dbar^(*)\Kbar agree well with data, while D_{u,d} \Dbar^(*)\Kbar rates agree with data only within a factor of 2 to 3. All measured three-body rates can be reproduced by including NR contribution. The total ΔΓs/Γs obtained is 16.7+-8.5%, which agrees with the short-distance result within uncertainties. For illustration, we also demonstrate the effect of D_{sJ}(2700) in modes with D^(*)K^*. In all scenarios, the total width difference remain consistence to the short-distance result. Our result indicates that (a) the operator product expansion (OPE) in short-distance picture is a valid assumption, (b) approximating the two-body decays to saturate width difference has a large correction, (c) the effect of three-body modes cannot be neglected, and (d) in addition to D^(*)_s poles, the D_{sJ}(2700) resonance also plays an important role in three-body modes. Future experiments are necessary to improve the estimation of ΔΓs from long-distance picture.

The interference, constructive for $Kη'$ and $K^*η$ and destructive for $Kη$ and $K^*η'$, between type-II and type-III diagrams explains the pattern of $Γ(B\to Kη')\ggΓ(B\to Kη)$ and $Γ(B\to K^*η')\llΓ(B\to K^*η)$. Within QCDF, the observed large rate of the $Kη'$ mode can be naturally explained without invoking flavor-singlet contributions or something exotic. The decay pattern for $B\to K_0^*(1430)η^{(')}$ decays depends on whether the scalar meson $K_0^*(1430)$ is an excited state of $κ$ or a lowest-lying $P$-wave $q\bar q$ state. Hence, the experimental measurements of $B\to K_0^*(1430)η^{(')}$ can be used to explore the quark structure of $K_0^*(1430)$. If $K_0^*(1430)$ is a low-lying $q\bar q$ bound state, we find that $K_0^*η$ has a rate slightly larger than $K_0^*η'$ owing to the fact that the $η$-$η'$ mixing angle in the $η_q,η_s$ flavor basis is less than $45^\circ$, in agreement with experiment. Type-III penguin diagram does not contribute to $B\to K_2^*η^{(')}$ under the factorization hypothesis and type-II diagram dominates.

Many of the $B_s\to h_1h_2$ decays can be related to $B_d\to h_1h_2$ ones via U-spin or SU(3) symmetry. Some useful model-independent relations can be derived and tested. Mixing-induced CP asymmetries for many of the penguin-dominated decays are predicted to be very small in the standard model. They are sensitive to New Physics and offer rich possibilities of new discoveries. Measurements of direct CP-violating asymmetries can be used to discriminate QCDF from other competing approaches such as pQCD and soft-collinear effective theory.

We emphasize that the electroweak penguin solution to the $B\to Kπ$ CP puzzle via New Physics is irrelevant for solving the CP and rate puzzles related to tree-dominated decays. While some channels e.g. $K^-π^+,K^-ρ^0,π^+π^-,ρ^\pmπ^\mp$ need penguin annihilation to induce the correct magnitudes and signs for their CP violation, some other decays such as $B^-\to K^-π^0,π^-η, K^-η$ and $\bar B^0\to \bar K^{*0}η,π^0π^0$ require the presence of both power corrections to account for the measured CP asymmetries. In general, QCDF predictions for the branching fractions and direct CP asymmetries of $\bar B\to PP,VP,VV$ decays are in good agreement with experiment. The predictions of pQCD and soft-collinear effective theory are included for comparison.

We reanalyze the $B\to M$ tensor form factors in a covariant light-front quark model, where $M$ represents a vector meson $V$, an axial-vector meson $A$, or a tensor meson $T$. The treatment of masses and mixing angles in the $K_{1A,1B}$ systems is improved, where $K_{1A}$ and $K_{1B}$ are the $^3P_1$ and $^1P_1$ states of the axial-vector meson $K_1$, respectively. Rates of $B\to Mγ$ decays are then calculated using the QCD factorization approach. The updated $B\to K^*γ$, $B\to K_1(1270)γ$, $K_1(1400)γ$ and $K_2γ$ rates agree with the data. The $K_1(1270)$--$K_1(1400)$ mixing angle is found to be about $51^\circ$. The sign of the mixing angle is fixed by the observed relative strength of $B\to K_1(1270)γ$ and $K_1(1400)γ$. The formalism is then applied to $B_s\to M$ tensor form factors. We find that the calculated $B_s\to φγ$ rate is consistent with experiment, though in the lower end of the data. The branching fractions of $B_s\to f_1(1420)γ$ and $f'_2(1525)γ$ are predicted to be of order $10^{-5}$ and it will be interesting to search for these modes. Rates on $B_s\to f_1(1285)γ$, $h_1(1380)γ$, $h_1(1170)γ$, $f_2(1270)γ$ decays are also predicted.

However, the predicted direct CP-violating effects in QCDF for $B^-\to K^-π^0,K^-η,π^-η$ and $\bar B^0\toπ^0π^0$ are wrong in signs when confronted with experiment. We show that subleading $1/m_b$ power corrections to the color-suppressed tree amplitude due to spectator scattering or final-state interactions will yield correct signs for aforementioned CP asymmetries and accommodate the observed $π^0π^0$ and $ρ^0π^0$ rates simultaneously. Implications are discussed.

We study the doubly charmful two-body and three-body baryonic B decays $\bar B\to Λ_c^+\bar Λ_c^-$ and $\bar B\to Λ_c^+\bar Λ_c^- \bar K$. As pointed out before, a naive estimate of the branching ratio ${\cal O}(10^{-8})$ for the latter decay is too small by three to four orders of magnitude compared to experiment. Previously, it has been shown that a large enhancement for the $Λ_c^+\barΛ_c^-\bar K$ production can occur due to a charmonium-like resonance (e.g. X(4630) discovered by Belle) with a mass near the $Λ_c\barΛ_c$ threshold. Motivated by the BaBar's observation of a resonance in the $Λ_c \bar K$ system with a mass of order 2930 MeV, we study in this work the contribution to $\bar B\toΛ_c^+\barΛ_c^-\bar K$ from the intermediate state $Ξ_c(2980)$ which is postulated to be a first positive-parity excited $D$-wave charmed baryon state. Assuming that a soft $q\bar q$ quark pair is produced through the $σ$ and $π$ meson exchanges in the configuration for $\bar B\to Ξ_c(2980)\barΛ_c$ and $Λ_c\barΛ_c$, it is found that branching ratios of $\bar B\to Λ_c^+\bar Λ_c^- \bar K$ and $\bar B\to Λ_c^+\bar Λ_c^-$ are of order $3.5\times 10^{-4}$ and $5\times 10^{-5}$, respectively, in agreement with experiment except that the prediction for the $Λ_c\barΛ_c K^-$ is slightly smaller. In conjunction with our previous analysis, we conclude that the enormously large rate of $\bar B\to Λ_c^+\bar Λ_c^-\bar K$ arises from the resonances $Ξ_c(2980)$ and X(4630).

We study the final-state interaction (FSI) effects in charmless B_{u,d,s} to PP decays. We consider a FSI approach with both short- and long-distance contributions, where the former are from in-elastic channels and are contained in factorization amplitudes, while the latter are from the residual rescattering among PP states. Flavor SU(3) symmetry is used to constrain the residual rescattering S-matrix. We fit to all available data on the CP-averaged decay rates and CP asymmetries, and make predictions on unmeasured ones. Our main results are as follows: (i) Results are in agreement with data in the presence of FSI. (ii) For B decays, the pi^+pi^- and pi^0pi^0 rates are suppressed and enhanced respectively by FSI. (iii) The FSI has a large impact on direct CP asymmetries of many modes. (iv) The deviation (Delta A) between A(B{bar}^0 to K^-pi^+) and A(B^-to K^-π^0) can be understood in the FSI approach. (v) Sizable and complex color-suppressed tree amplitudes, which are crucial for the large π^0π^0 rate and Delta A, are generated through exchange rescattering. The correlation of the ratio B(pi^0pi^0)/B(pi^+pi^-) and Delta A is studied. (vi) The B^- to pi^-pi^0 direct CP violation is very small and is not affected by FSI. (vii) Several B_s decay rates are enhanced. In particular, the eta'eta' branching ratio is enhanced to the level of 1.0X10^{-4}, which can be checked experimentally. (viii) Time-dependent CP asymmetries S in B_{d,s} decays are studied. CP asymmetries in these modes will be useful to test the SM.

The rescattering effects on the corresponding B_{u,d,s}(bar) to D(bar)P, DP amplitude ratios r_B, r_{B_s}, and the relative strong phases delta_B, delta_{B_s} are studied. The experimental measurements can be accommodated for $θ\approx 20^\circ$. (ii) If the $a_0(980)$ is a $q\bar q$ bound state, the predicted branching ratios for the channels $a_0^+ρ^-$ and $a_0^0ρ^-$ will be very large, of order $30\times 10^{-6}$ and $23\times 10^{-6}$, respectively. If the observation of or the experimental limit on theses two modes is much smaller than the expectation of $\sim 25\times 10^{-6}$, this could hint at a four-quark nature for the $a_0(980)$. (iii) For the $a_0(1450)$ channels, $a_0^+(1450)ρ^-$ and $a_0^0(1450)ρ^-$ are found to have branching ratios of order $16\times 10^{-6}$ and $22\times 10^{-6}$, respectively. A measurement of them at the predicted level will favor the $q\bar q$ structure for the $a_0(1450)$. (iv) Contrary to the naive expectation that $Γ(B^-\to a_0^0ρ^-)\sim {1\over 2}Γ(\bar B^0\to a_0^+ρ^-)$, we found that they have comparable rates due to additional contributions to the $a_0ρ^-$ mode from the $a_0^0$ emission. (v) The predicted central value of $Br(\bar B^0\to\ov K^{*0}_0(1430)φ)$ is larger than experiment, though it can be accommodated within theoretical errors. The decays $B\to K^{*}_0(1430)ρ$ are expected to have rates substantially larger than that of $B\to K^{*}_0(1430)π$ owing to the constructive (destructive) interference between the $a_4$ and $a_6$ penguin terms in the former (latter). Experimentally, it is thus important to check if the $B\to K^{*}_0ρ$ modes are enhanced relative to the corresponding $K_0^*π$ channels.

Charmless 3-body decays of B mesons are studied in the framework of the factorization approach. The nonresonant contributions arising from $B\to P_1P_2$ transitions are evaluated using heavy meson chiral perturbation theory (HMChPT). The momentum dependence of nonresonant amplitudes is assumed to be in the exponential form $e^{-α_{NR}} p_B\cdot(p_i+p_j)}$ so that the HMChPT results are recovered in the soft meson limit $p_i, p_j\to 0$. In addition, we have identified another large source of the nonresonant signal in the matrix elements of scalar densities, e.g. $<K\bar K|\bar ss|0>$, which can be constrained from the decay $\bar B^0\to K_SK_SK_S$ or $B^-\to K^-K_SK_S$. The intermediate vector meson contributions to 3-body decays are identified through the vector current, while the scalar meson resonances are mainly associated with the scalar density. Their effects are described in terms of the Breit-Wigner formalism. Our main results are: (i) All KKK modes are dominated by the nonresonant background. The predicted branching ratios of $K^+K^-K_{S(L)}$, $K^+K^-K^-$ and $K^-K_SK_S$ modes are consistent with the data within errors. (ii) Although the penguin-dominated $B^0\to K^+K^-K_{S}$ decay is subject to a potentially significant tree pollution, its effective $\sin 2β$ is very similar to that of the $K_SK_SK_S$ mode. However, direct CP asymmetry of the former, being of order -4%, is more prominent than the latter. (iii) For $B\to Kππ$ decays, we found sizable nonresonant contributions in $K^-π^+π^-$ and $\bar K^0π^+π^-$ modes, in agreement with the Belle measurements but larger than the BaBar result.

Strong decays of charmed baryons are analyzed in the framework of heavy hadron chiral perturbation theory (HHChPT) in which heavy quark symmetry and chiral symmetry are synthesized. HHChPT works excellently for describing the strong decays of s-wave charmed baryons. For L=1 orbitally excited states, two of the unknown couplings, namely, $h_2$ and $h_{10}$, are determined from the resonant $Λ_c^+ππ$ mode produced in the $Λ_c(2593)$ decay and the width of $Σ_c(2800)$, respectively. Predictions for the strong decays of the p-wave charmed baryon states $Λ_c(2625)$, $Ξ_c(2790)$ and $Ξ_c(2815)$ are presented. Since the decay $Λ_c(2593)^+\toΛ_c^+ππ$ receives non-resonant contributions, our value for $h_2$ is smaller than the previous estimates. We also discuss the first positive-parity excited charmed baryons. We conjecture that the charmed baryon $Λ_c(2880)$ with $J^P=\frac52^+$ is an admixture of $Λ_{c2}(\frac52^+)$ with and $\tildeΛ''_{c3}(\frac52^+)$; both are L=2 orbitally excited states. The potential model suggests $J^P=\frac52^-$ or $\frac32^+$ for $Λ_c(2940)^+$. Measurements of the ratio of $Σ_c^*π/Σ_cπ$ will enable us to discriminate the $J^P$ assignments for $Λ_c(2940)$. We advocate that the $J^P$ quantum numbers of $Ξ_c(2980)$ and $Ξ_c(3077)$ are $\frac12^+$ and $\frac52^+$, respectively. Under this $J^P$ assignment, it is ready to understand why $Ξ_c(2980)$ is broader than $Ξ_c(3077)$.

We employ two recent lattice results as the starting point; one is the isovector scalar meson $a_0(1450)$ which displays an unusual property of being nearly independent of quark mass for quark masses smaller than that of the strange, and the other is the scalar glueball mass at 1710 MeV in the quenched approximation. In the SU(3) symmetry limit, $f_0(1500)$ turns out to be a pure SU(3) octet and is degenerate with $a_0(1450)$, while $f_0(1370)$ is mainly an SU(3) singlet with a slight mixing with the scalar glueball which is the primary component of $f_0(1710)$. These features remain essentially unchanged even when SU(3) breaking is taken into account. We discuss the sources of SU(3) breaking and their consequences on flavor-dependent decays of these mesons. The observed enhancement of $ωf_0(1710)$ production over $φf_0(1710)$ in hadronic $J/ψ$ decays and the copious $f_0(1710)$ production in radiative $J/ψ$ decays lend further support to the prominent glueball nature of $f_0(1710)$.

Specifically, we focus on the Cabibbo-allowed decays $\bar B\to D^{**}π$ and $\bar D^{**}_sD^{(*)}$, where $D^{**}$ denotes generically a p-wave charmed meson. While the measured color-allowed decays $\bar B^0\to D^{**+}π^-$ are consistent with the theoretical expectation, the experimental observation of $B^-\to D^{**0}π^-$ for the broad $D^{**}$ states is astonishing as it requires that the color-suppressed contribution dominates over the color-allowed one, even though the former is $1/m_b$ suppressed in the heavy quark limit. In order to accommodate the data of $\bar B\to D^{**}π^-$, it is found that $a_2/a_1\approx -0.5$ with a sign opposite to that in $\bar B\to Dπ$ decays, where $a_1$ and $a_2$ are the effective Wilson coefficients for color-allowed and color-suppressed decay amplitudes, respectively. The decay constants and form factors for $D^{**}$ and the Isgur-Wise functions $τ_{1/2}(ω)$ and $τ_{3/2}(ω)$ are extracted from the data of $B\to D^{**}π$ decays. The Isgur-Wise functions calculated in the covariant light-front quark model are in good agreement with experiment. The neutral modes $\bar B^0\to D^{**0}π^0$ for $D^{**}=D^*_0(2400),D'_1(2430)$ and $\bar B^0\to D'^0_1(2430)ω$ are predicted to have branching ratios of order $10^{-4}$ which are also supported by isospin argument. The decay constants of $D_{s0}^*(2317)$ and $D'_{s1}(2460)$ are inferred from the measurements of $\bar B\to D_s^{**-}D$ to be $58\sim 86$ MeV and $130\sim 200$ MeV, respectively. Contrary to the decay constants $f_{D_0^*}$ and $f_{D'_1}$ which are similar in size, the large disparity between $f_{D_{s0}^*}$ and $f_{D'_{s1}}$ is surprising and unexpected.

Second, a naive estimate of the branching ratio $10^{-9}$ for the color-suppressed three-body decay $\bar B\toΛ_c^+\barΛ_c^-K$, which is highly suppressed by phase space, is too small by five to six orders of magnitude compared to experiment. We show that the great suppression for the $Λ_c^+\barΛ_c^-K$ production can be alleviated provided that there exists a narrow hidden charm bound state with a mass near the $Λ_c\barΛ_c$ threshold. This new state that couples strongly to the charmed baryon pair can be searched for in B decays and in $p\bar p$ collisions by studying the mass spectrum of $D^{(*)}\bar D^{(*)}$ or $Λ_c\barΛ_c$. The doubly charmful decay $\bar B\toΞ_c\barΛ_c$ has a configuration more favorable than the singly charmful one such as $\bar B^0\toΛ_c\bar p$ since no hard gluon is needed to produce the energetic $Ξ_c\barΛ_c$ pair in the former decay, while two hard gluons are needed for the latter process. Assuming that a soft $q\bar q$ quark pair is produced through the $σ$ and $π$ meson exchanges in the configuration for $\bar B\to Ξ_c\barΛ_c$, it is found that its branching ratio is of order $10^{-3}$, in agreement with experiment.

The recently observed color-suppressed B0bar to D0 pi0, D0 eta, D0 eta', Ds+ K-, D0 K0bar, D0 rho0 and D0 omega decay modes all have rates larger than expected. The color-suppressed Bs to D0 phi, D0bar phi modes, which were suggested for the extraction of the unitarity angle gamma in the Gronau-London method, could be larger than the previous estimation by one order of magnitude. Several new theoretical clean modes in Bs decays are suggested for the extraction of gamma. The proposed Bs to D0 h0, D0bar h0 decay modes with h0 = pi0, eta, eta', rho0, omega in addition to h0 = phi are free from penguin contributions. Their decay rates can be estimated from the observed color-suppressed B0bar to D0 h0 rates through SU(3) symmetry. A combined study of these D0 h0, D0bar h0 modes in addition to the D0 phi, D0bar phi modes is useful in the extraction of gamma in the Bs system without involving the Bs-Bsbar mixing. Since the b to u and b to c transitions belong to the same topological diagram, the relative strong phase is likely to be small. In this case, the CP asymmetries are suppressed and the untagged rates are very useful in the gamma extraction.

The hadronic charmless B decays into a scalar meson and a pseudoscalar meson are studied within the framework of QCD factorization. Although the light scalar mesons $f_0(980)$ and $a_0(980)$ are widely perceived as primarily the four-quark bound states, in practice it is difficult to make quantitative predictions based on the four-quark picture for light scalars. Hence, predictions are made in the 2-quark model for the scalar mesons. Based on the QCD sum rule method, we have derived the leading-twist light-cone distribution amplitudes of scalar mesons and their decay constants. The short-distance approach suffices to explain the observed large rates of $f_0(980)K^-$ and $f_0(980)\bar K^0$ that receive major penguin contributions from the $b\to ss\bar s$ process. When $f_0(980)$ is assigned as a four-quark bound state, there exist extra diagrams contributing to $B\to f_0(980)K$. Therefore, a priori the $f_0(980)K$ rate is not necessarily suppressed for a four-quark state $f_0(980)$. The calculated $\bar B^0\to a_0^+(980)π^-$ and $a_0^+(980)K^-$ rates exceed slightly the current experimental limits. If the branching ratio of $\bar B^0\to a_0^+(1450)π^-$ is measured at the level of $(4\sim 6)\times 10^{-6}$ while $a_0^+(980)π^-$ is found to be smaller, say, of order $(1\sim 2)\times 10^{-6}$ or even smaller than this, it will be likely to imply a 2-quark nature for $a_0(1450)$ and a four-quark assignment for $a_0(980)$. The penguin-dominated modes $a_0(980)K$ and $a_0(1450)K$ receive dominant weak annihilation contributions.

Decay rates and time-dependent and direct CP asymmetries in the decays $B^0\to K^+K^-K_{S(L)}$ and $K_S K_S K_{S(L)}$ are studied. Resonant and nonresonant contributions to the three-body decays are carefully investigated. Nonresonant effects on 2-body and 3-body matrix elements are constrained by QCD counting rules. The predicted branching ratios are consistent with the data within the theoretical and experimental errors, though the theoretical central values are somewhat smaller than the experimental ones. Owing to the presence of color-allowed tree amplitudes in $B^0\to K^+K^-K_{S(L)}$, this penguin-dominated mode is subject to a significant tree pollution and the deviation of the mixing-induced \CP asymmetry from that measured in $B\to J/ψK_S$, namely, $Δ\sin 2β_{K^+K^-K_{S(L)}}\equiv \sin 2β_{K^+K^-K_{S(L)}}-\sin 2 β_{J/ψK_S}$, can be as large as O(0.10). In contrast, the $K_SK_SK_{S(L)}$ modes appear theoretically very clean in our picture with negligible $Δ\sin 2β_{K_SK_SK_{S(L)}}$. Direct CP asymmetries in $K^+K^-K_{S(L)}$ and $K_S K_S K_{S(L)}$ modes are found to be very small.

We study rescattering effects in Bbar to D P, D Kbar and Dbar Kbar modes in the quasi-elastic approach, which is extended to accommodate D0 eta' without using U(3) symmetry. The D0bar Kbar modes are of interest in the determination of the unitarity angle phi3/gamma. The updated DP data are used to extract the effective Wilson coefficients a_1^{eff} ~ 0.92, a_2^{eff} ~ 0.22, three strong phases delta ~ 62 deg., theta ~ 24 deg., sigma ~ 127 deg., and the mixing angle tau~2 deg. The values of delta and theta are close to our previous results. The smallness of tau implies small mixing of D0 eta1 with other modes. Predictions for D0 K-, D+ K- and D0 K0bar agree with data. The framework applies to Bbar to Dbar Kbar decays, and rates for D0bar K-, D- K0, Ds- pi0, Ds- eta and Ds- eta' modes are predicted.
From B- to D0bar K- and D0 K- rates, we find r_B=0.09\pm 0.02.

Recent observations of large direct CP asymmetry in modes such as $B^0\to K^+π^-,ρ^-π^+$ means that final state phases in 2-body B decays may not be small. It is therefore important to examine these long-distance effects on penguin-dominated decays. Such long-distance effects on $S_f$ are found to be generally small [i.e. ${\cal O}(1-2%)$] or negligible except for the $ωK_S$ and $ρ^0K_S$ modes where $S_f$ is lowered by around 15% for the former and increased by the same percentage for the latter. However, final-state rescattering can enhance the $ωK_S, φK_S, η'K_S, ρ^0K_S$ and $π^0K_S$ rates significantly and flip the signs of direct CP asymmetries of the last two modes. Direct CP asymmetries in $ωK_S$ and $ρ^0K_S$ channels are predicted to be $\A_{ωK_S}\approx -0.13$ and $\A_{ρ^0K_S}\approx 0.47$, respectively. However, direct CP asymmetry in all the other $b\to s$ penguin dominated modes that we study is found to be rather small (a few percents), rendering these modes a viable place to search for the CP-odd phases beyond the standard model.

There exist many experimental indications that final-state interactions (FSIs) may play a prominent role not only in charmful B decays but also in charmless B ones. We examine the final-state rescattering effects on the hadronic B decay rates and their impact on direct CP violation. The color-suppressed neutral modes such as $B^0\to D^0π^0,π^0π^0,ρ^0π^0,K^0π^0$ can be substantially enhanced by long-distance rescattering effects. The direct CP-violating partial rate asymmetries in charmless B decays to $ππ/πK$ and $ρπ$ are significantly affected by final-state rescattering and their signs are generally different from that predicted by the short-distance approach. For example, direct CP asymmetry in $B^0\toρ^0π^0$ is increased to around 60% due to final state rescattering effects whereas the short-distance picture gives about 1%. Evidence of direct CP violation in the decay $\bar B^0\to K^-π^+$ is now established, while the combined BaBar and Belle measurements of $\bar B^0\toρ^\pmπ^\mp$ imply a $3.6σ$ direct CP asymmetry in the $ρ^+π^-$ mode. Our predictions for CP violation agree with experiment in both magnitude and sign, whereas the QCD factorization predictions seem to have some difficulty with the data. Current data on $πK$ modes seem to violate the isospin sum rule relation, suggesting the presence of electroweak penguin contributions. We have also investigated whether a large transverse polarization in $B\to φK^*$ can arise from the final-state rescattering of $D^{(*)}\bar D_s^{(*)}$ into $φK^*$.

The ratio of Gamma(P_c to Baryon D_{s0}*)/Gamma(P_c to Baryon D_s) is very useful for verifying the parity of the antisextet charmed pentaquark P_c. It is expected to be of order unity for an even parity P_c and much less than one for an odd parity pentaquark.

Assuming the two diquark structure for the pentaquark state as advocated in the Jaffe-Wilczek model, there exist exotic parity-even anti-sextet and parity-odd triplet heavy pentaquark baryons. The theoretical estimate of charmed and bottom pentaquark masses is quite controversial and it is not clear whether the ground-state heavy pentaquark lies above or below the strong-decay threshold. We study the weak transitions of heavy pentaquark states using the light-front quark model. In the heavy quark limit, heavy-to-heavy pentaquark transition form factors can be expressed in terms of three Isgur-Wise functions: two of them are found to be normalized to unity at zero recoil, while the third one is equal to 1/2 at the maximum momentum transfer, in accordance with the prediction of the large-Nc approach or the quark model. Therefore, the light-front model calculations are consistent with the requirement of heavy quark symmetry. Numerical results for form factors and Isgur-Wise functions are presented. Decay rates of the weak decays Theta_b+ to Theta_c0 pi+ (rho+), Theta_c0 to Theta+ pi- (rho-), Sigma'_{5b}+ to Sigma'_{5c}0 pi+ (rho+) and Sigma'_{5c}0 to N_8+ pi- (rho-) with Theta_Q,
Sigma'_{5Q} and N_8 being the heavy anti-sextet, heavy triplet and light octet pentaquarks, respectively, are obtained. For weakly decaying Theta_b+ and Theta_c0, the branching ratios of Theta_b+ to Theta_c0 pi+, Theta_c0 to Theta+ pi- are estimated to be at the level of 10^{-3} and a few percents, respectively.

The tensor form factor T_1(q^2) at q^2=0, which is relevant to the decay B to K* gamma, is found to be 0.24, substantially smaller than what expected from the conventional light-front model or light-cone sum rules. Taking into account the sizable next-to-leading order (NLO) corrections, the calculated branching ratio of B to K* gamma agrees with experiment, while most of the existing models predict too large B to K* gamma compared to the data. The relative strength of B to K_1(1270) gamma and B to K_1(1400) gamma rates is very sensitive to the sign of the K_1(1270)-K_1(1400) mixing angle. Contrary to the other models in which K_1(1270) gamma and K_1(1400) gamma rates are predicted to be comparable, it is found that one of them is strongly suppressed owing to a large cancellation between two different form factor terms. The calculated branching ratio of B to K*_2 gamma is in a good agreement with experiment and this may imply the smallness of NLO corrections to this radiative decay mode.

By incorporating QCD counting rules and studying the asymptotic behavior, we find an earlier relation between the pseudoscalar and axial vector form factors to be too restrictive. Instead, the pseudoscalar and scalar form factors are related asymptotically. Following this approach, the measured Lambda anti-p pi rate (~4.0x10^{-6}) and spectrum can be understood, and Lambda should be dominantly left-hand polarized, while we expect Br(Sigma0 anti-p pi)~1.6x10^{-6}. The decay rates obtained this way are in good agreement with experiment. Both current-produced and transition processes contribute to B- --> D(*)0 K- K0 decays. By using QCD counting rules and the measured B- --> D(*)0 K- K0 decay rates, the measured decay spectra can be understood.

Abstract:
Recent data on B->p pbar K, K0 pi pi and K Kbar K hint at a $\sim 2.3$ GeV object recoiling against a kaon. This could be the narrow state observed in J/ψ-> gamma xi. Nonobservation in p pbar annihilation implies ${\cal B}(ξ\to p\bar p) \sim$ few $\times 10^{-3}$, consistent with eta_c and J/ψdecays, but there are actual hints in p pbar -> phi phi and p p-> p pi^+ pi^- pi^+ pi^- p. Simple modeli…

Nonobservation in p pbar annihilation implies ${\cal B}(ξ\to p\bar p) \sim$ few $\times 10^{-3}$, consistent with eta_c and J/ψdecays, but there are actual hints in p pbar -> phi phi and p p-> p pi^+ pi^- pi^+ pi^- p. Simple modeling shows ${\cal B}(B \to ξK){\cal B}(ξ\to p\bar p) \sim 1\times 10^{-6}$, appearing as a spike in the $p\bar p$ spectrum, with $\sim$ 30 events per 100 fb$^{-1}$; modes such as K K_s K_s, K phi phi, K4 pi (K f_2 pi pi) etc. should be explored. The underlying dynamics of g* -> g xi is analogous to g* -> g etaprime or gluon fragmentation. Discovery of sizable B -> xi K could be useful for CP violation studies.

Motivated by recent data on B-> p pbar K decay, we study various charmless three-body baryonic B decay modes, including Lambda pbar pi, Sigma0 pbar pi, p pbar pi, p pbar Kbar0, in a factorization approach. These modes have rates of order 10^{-6}. There are two mechanisms for the baryon pair production, current-produced and transition. The behavior of decay spectra from these baryon production mechanisms can be understood by using QCD counting rules. Predictions on rates and decay spectra can be checked in the near future.
