For seven decades by A-15 superconductors we meant metallic $A_3B$ alloys (where A is a transition metal, and B is groups IIIB and IVB element) discovered by Hardy and Hulm (Phys. Rev. 89, 884 (1953)). Nb3Ge exhibited the highest superconducting transition temperature, $T_c = 23 K$, among these alloys. One of these alloys, $Nb_3Sn$, is primary material in modern applied superconductivity. Recently Guo et al (arXiv:2307.13067) extended the family of superconductors where the metallic ions arranged in the beta tungsten (A-15) sublattice by observation of $T_{c,zero} = 81 K$ in $La_4H_{23}$ phase compressed at $P = 118 GPa$. Despite the $La_4H_{23}$ has much lower $T_c$ in comparison with near-room-temperature superconducting $LaH_{10}$ phase ($T_{c,zero} = 250 K$ at $P = 200 GPa$) discovered by Drozdov et al (Nature 569, 531 (2019)), the $La_4H_{23}$ holds the record high $T_c$ within A-15 family. Cross et al (Phys. Rev. B 109, L020503 (2024)) confirmed the high-temperature superconductivity in the compressed $La_4H_{23}$. In this paper, we analyzed available experimental data measured in $La_4H_{23}$ and found that this superconductor exhibits nanograined structure, 5.5 nm < D < 35 nm, low crystalline strain < 0.003, high electron-phonon coupling constant, 1.5 < $λ_{e-ph}$ < 2.55, and moderate level of the nonadiabaticity $Θ_{D}/T_{F}$. We found that derived $Θ_{D}/T_{F}$ and $T_c/T_F$ values for the $La_4H_{23}$ phase are similar to the ones in cuprates, pnictides, and near-room-temperature superconductors $H_3S$ and $LaH_{10}$, which implies that the $La_4H_{23}$ phase falls to unconventional superconductors band in the Uemura plot.

Recently Sun et al (Nature 621, 493 (2023)) reported on the discovery of high-temperature superconductivity in highly-compressed La$_3$Ni$_2$O$_{7-δ}$. In addition to ongoing studies of the phase structural transition, pairing mechanism, and other properties/parameters in this highly-pressurized nickelate, here explore a possibility for the electron-phonon pairing mechanism in the La$_3$Ni$_2$O$_{7-δ}$. To do this, we analyzed experimental data on temperature dependent resistance, $R(T)$, and extracted pressure dependent Debye temperature, $Θ_D$, for the $Fmmm$-phase (high-pressure phase). Derived ballpark value is $Θ_D(P = 25 GPa) = 550$ $K$. We also estimated the electron-phonon coupling constant, $λ_{e-ph}(P=22.4 GPa) = 1.75$, for La$_3$Ni$_2$O$_{7-δ}$ sample exhibited zero-resistance transition. Performed analysis of XRD data showed that the crystal lattice strain, $ε(P)$, is higher in the $Fmmm$-phase in comparison with the $Amam$-phase (low-pressure phase). Based on performed $ε(P)$ analysis, we proposed possible reason for the presence/absence of the zero-resistance state in La$_3$Ni$_2$O$_{7-δ}$.

Quantum cascade lasers are of high interest in the scientific community due to unique applications utilizing the emission in mid-IR range. The possible designs of QCL are quite limited and require careful engineering to overcome some crucial disadvantages. One of them is an active region (ARn) overheat, that significantly affects the laser characteristics in the pulsed operation mode. In this work we consider the effects related to the non-equilibrium temperature distribution, when thermal resistance formalism is irrelevant. We employ the heat equation and discuss the possible limitations and structural features stemming from the chemical composition of the AR. We show that the presence of alloys in the ARn structure fundamentally limits the heat dissipation in pulsed and CW regimes due to their low thermal conductivity. Also the QCL post-growths affects the thermal properties of a device only in (near)CW mode while it is absolutely invaluable in the pulsed mode

Weyl semimetals hold great promise in revolutionizing nonreciprocal optical components due to their unique topological properties. By exhibiting nonreciprocal magneto-optical effects without necessitating an external magnetic field, these materials offer remarkable miniaturization opportunities and reduced energy consumption. However, their intrinsic topological robustness poses a challenge for applications demanding tunability. In this work, we introduce an innovative approach to enhance the tunability of their response, utilizing multilayered configurations of twisted anisotropic Weyl semimetals. Our design enables controlled and reversible isolation by adjusting the twist angle between the anisotropic layers. When implemented in the Faraday geometry within the mid-IR frequency range, our design delivers impressive isolation, exceeding 50 dB, while maintaining a minimal insertion loss of just 0.33 dB. Moreover, the in-plane anisotropy of Weyl semimetals eliminates one or both polarizers of a conventional isolator geometry, significantly reducing the overall dimensions. These results set the stage for creating highly adaptable, ultra-compact optical isolators that can propel the fields of integrated photonics and quantum technology applications to new heights.

The field of thermal emission engineering shows great potential for various applications, such as lighting, energy harvesting, and imaging, using natural or artificial structures. However, existing structures face challenges in fabrication or do not provide the necessary degree of control over key parameters such as emission intensity, spectral composition, and angular distribution. To address these limitations, we propose a novel approach that leverages in-plane hyperbolic response, embedded eigenstates enabled by epsilon-near-zero, and exceptional tunability through twisting in α-MoO3 heterostructures. By adjusting the twist angle, we can manipulate the system's properties, transforming it from a near-perfect reflector to a perfect absorber. This enables us to exert control over thermal emission power, spanning an order of magnitude. Furthermore, our research has uncovered a significant angular dependence of thermal emission, which varies with relative rotation.

Periodicity is usually assumed to be the necessary and sufficient condition for the formation of band gaps, i.e., energy bands with a suppressed density of states. Here, we check this premise by analyzing the band gap properties of three structures that differ in the degree of periodicity and ordering. We consider a photonic crystal, disordered lattice, and ordered but nonperiodic quasicrystalline structure. A real-space metric allows us to compare the degree of periodicity of these different structures. Using this metric, we reveal that the disordered lattice and the ordered quasicrystal can be attributed to the same group of material structures. We examine the density of their photonic states both theoretically and experimentally. The analysis reveals that despite their dramatically different degrees of periodicity, the photonic crystal and the quasicrystalline structure demonstrate an almost similar suppression of the density of states. Our results give new insight into the physical mechanisms resulting in the formation of band gaps.

Electrical resistivity, magnetoresistivity, and the Hall effect have been studied in a topological semimetal WTe2 single crystal in the temperature range from 12 to 200 K under magnetic fields up to 9 T. It has been found that quadratic temperature dependences of the electrical resistivity in the absence of a magnetic field and the conductivity in a magnetic field are observed at low temperatures, which is apparently associated with contributions from various scattering mechanisms. Single-band and two-band models were used to analyze data on the Hall effect and magnetoresistivity. These results indicate electron-hole compensation with a slight predominance of electron charge carriers.

Given $f\in X^T$ (=the family of all functions from $T$ into $X$), the approximate variation of $f$ is the two-parameter family $\{V_{\varepsilon,p}(f):\varepsilon>0,p\in\mathcal{P}\}$, where $V_{\varepsilon,p}(f)$ is the greatest lower bound of Jordan's variations $V_p(g)$ on $T$ with respect to $d_p$ of all functions $g\in X^T$ such that $d_p(f(t),g(t))\le\varepsilon$ for all $t\in T$. We establish the following pointwise selection principle: If a pointwise relatively sequentially compact sequence of functions $\{f_j\}_{j=1}^\infty\subset X^T$ is such that $\limsup_{j\to\infty}V_{\varepsilon,p}(f_j)<\infty$ for all $\varepsilon>0$ and $p\in\mathcal{P}$, then it contains a subsequence which converges pointwise on $T$ to a bounded regulated function $f\in X^T$. We illustrate this result by appropriate examples, and present a characterization of regulated functions $f\in X^T$ in terms of the approximate variation.

Given $f\in M^T$, we study the properties of the approximate variation $\{V_\varepsilon(f)\}_{\varepsilon>0}$, where $V_\varepsilon(f)$ is the greatest lower bound of Jordan variations $V(g)$ of functions $g\in M^T$ such that $d(f(t),g(t))\le\varepsilon$ for all $t\in T$. The notion of $\varepsilon$-variation $V_\varepsilon(f)$ was introduced by Frańková [Math. Bohem. 116 (1991), 20-59] for intervals $T=[a,b]$ in $\mathbb{R}$ and $M=\mathbb{R}^N$ and extended to the general case by Chistyakov and Chistyakova [Studia Math. 238 (2017), 37-57]. We prove directly the following basic pointwise selection principle: If a sequence of functions $\{f_j\}_{j=1}^\infty$ from $M^T$ is such that the closure in $M$ of the set $\{f_j(t):j\in\mathbb{N}\}$ is compact for all $t\in T$ and $\limsup_{j\to\infty}V_\varepsilon(f_j)$ is finite for all $\varepsilon>0$, then it contains a subsequence, which converges pointwise on $T$ to a bounded regulated function $f\in M^T$. We establish several variants of this result for sequences of regulated and nonregulated functions, for functions with values in reflexive separable Banach spaces, for the almost everywhere convergence and weak pointwise convergence of extracted subsequences, and comment on the necessity of assumptions in the selection principles. The sharpness of all assertions is illustrated by examples.

We demonstrate how software-defined networking (SDN) paradigm can be used for addressing this problem on the example of a subcarrier wave quantum communication system, which is promising for network applications. We propose a novel approach to dynamic quantum network routing and communication security based on SDN OpenFlow protocol. SDN-operated dynamic switching between different data encryption methods, quantum or classic, will enable to organize virtual encoding channels with an ability to set the required Quality of Service level for security/bandwidth. These developments will further increase the feasibility of quantum technologies from the network perspective and contribute to bringing them to industrial scale.

Superconducting (SC) superlattices (SL) of the epitaxial semiconductor $PbTe-PbS$/(001) $KCl$ with two-dimensional ordered misfit dislocation (MD) networks across heteroboundaries (HB) are studied, and the obtained results are compared with the corresponding data for $YBaCuO$. An analysis of the fluctuational region showed that the pairing of electrons in SL takes place at the sites of dislocation networks. In the region of SC fluctuations, the IVC derivatives of point-contacts (PC) based on SL and HTS display a metal-insulator transition associated with delocalization of carriers from the vicinity of the structural elements responsible for the emergence of SC. The critical current density in a superlattice is determined, and a mechanism is proposed for formation of excess current on the IVC of PC based on SL and HTS. The values of the energy gap $Δ_0$ at low temperatures in units of $kT_c$ are found to be anomalously large for SL and HTS. For anisotropic three-dimensional SL with a strong bond between two-dimensional SC planes, two gaps emerge from the MD. For quasi-two-dimensional SL with a weak bond between two-dimensional SC planes, the $Δ(T)$ dependence is nonmonotonic, and the fluctuation region for these SL and for HTS reveals a gap that is practically independent of temperature. The IVC derivatives of a $Cu$-SL PC reveal an oscillating structure which is restricted to an energy of $90\ meV$ and is apparently associated with the electron-phonon interaction. It is assumed that there is a similarity between the SC mechanisms in SL and HTS. pacs 73.40.Jn, 74.25.Kc, 74.45.+c, 74.50.+r., 73.40.-c, 74.78.-w, 74.78.Fk, 74.20.Mn, 74.40.+k.-n, 74.45.+c, 74.62.Dn, 74.70.Ad

The paper addresses the tolerance approach to the sensitivity analysis of optimal solutions to the nonlinear optimization problem of the form
$$\mbox{$\bigoplus\limits_{y\in S}C(y)\to\min$\quad over\quad $S\in\mathcal{S}$,}$$ where $\mathcal{S}$ is a collection of nonempty subsets of a finite set $X$ such that the union of $\mathcal{S}$ is $X$ and the intersection of $\mathcal{S}$ is empty, $C$ is a cost (or weight) function from $X$ into $\mathbb{R}^+=[0,\infty)$ or $(0,\infty)$, and $\oplus$ is a continuous, associative, commutative, nondecreasing and unbounded binary operation of generalized addition on $\mathbb{R}^+$, called an A-operation. We evaluate and present sharp estimates for upper and lower bounds of costs of elements from $X$, for which an optimal solution to the above problem remains stable. These bounds present new results in the sensitivity analysis as well as extend most known results in a unified way. We define an invariant of the optimization problem---the tolerance function, which is independent of optimal solutions, and establish its basic properties, among which we mention a characterization of the set of all optimal solutions, the uniqueness of optimal solutions and extremal values of the tolerance function on an optimal solution.

The process of photon splitting is investigated in the presence of strongly magnetized electron-positron plasma. The amplitude of the process is calculated in general case of plasma with nonzero chemical potential and temperature. The polarization selection rules and corresponding partial amplitudes for allowed splitting channels are obtained in the case of charge-symmetric plasma. It is found that the new splitting channel forbidden in magnetized vacuum becomes allowed. The absorption rates of the photon splitting are calculated with taking into account of the photon dispersion and wave function renormalization. In addition, the comparison of photon splitting and Compton scattering process is made. The influence of the reactions under consideration on the radiation transfer in the framework of magnetar model of SGR burst is discussed.

In this paper we establish a fixed point theorem for contractive maps in modular spaces. It is related to contracting rather ``generalized average velocities'' than metric distances, and the successive approximations of fixed points converge to the fixed points in a weaker sense as compared to the metric convergence.

Hildebrandt (1963) for real functions of two variables and A. S. Leonov (1998) for real functions of n variables, and study its properties. We show that the total variation has many classical properties of Jordan's variation such as the additivity, generalized triangle inequality and sequential lower semicontinuity. We prove two variants of a pointwise selection principle of Helly-type, one of which is as follows: a pointwise precompact sequence of metric semigroup valued maps on the rectangle, whose total variations are uniformly bounded, admits a pointwise convergent subsequence.

It is shown that contribution of the process $γγ\to ν\bar ν$ to neutrino emissivity is supressed in comparision with the contributions of the processes $γe^{\pm} \to e^{\pm} ν\bar ν$ and $γ\to ν\bar ν$. These effects originated from spin-orbit coupling-induced splitting of the resonant level have been considered for double-barrier tunneling structures.

Abstract:
Fractal measures of images of continuous maps from the set of p-adic numbers Qp into complex plane C are analyzed. Examples of "anomalous" fractals, i.e. the sets where the D-dimensional Hausdorff measures (HM) are trivial, i.e. either zero, or sigma-infinite (D is the Hausdorff dimension (HD) of this set) are presented. Using the Caratheodory construction, the generalized scale-covariant HM (GHM) being non-trivial on such fractals are constructed. In particular, we present an example of 0-fractal, the continuum with HD=0 and nontrivial GHM invariant w.r.t. the group of all diffeomorphisms C. For conformal transformations of domains in R^n, the formula for the change of variables for GHM is obtained. The family of continuous maps Qp in C continuously dependent on "complex dimension" d in C is obtained. This family is such that: 1) if d=2(1), then the image of Qp is C (real axis in C); 2) the fractal measures coincide with the images of the Haar measure in Qp, and at d=2(1) they also coincide with the flat (linear) Lebesgue measure; 3) integrals of entire functions over the fractal measures of images for any compact set in Qp are holomorphic in d, similarly to the dimensional regularization method in QFT.

Abstract:
Dam** of an electromagnetic wave in a strong magnetic field is analyzed in the kinematic region near the threshold of electron-positron pair production. Dam** of the electromagnetic field is shown to be noticeably nonexponential in this region. The resulting width of the photon $γ\to e^+ e^-$ decay is considerably smaller than previously known results.
