Non-holomorphic Kaehler submanifolds of Euclidean space
Authors:

Abstract:
This paper is about non-holomorphic isometric immersions of Kaehler manifolds into Euclidean space $f\colon M^{2n}\to\R^{2n+p}$, $p\leq n-1$, with low codimension $p\leq 11$. In particular, it addresses a conjecture proposed by J. Yan and F. Zheng. The claim that if the index of complex relative nullity of the submanifold satisfies $ν_f^c<2n-2p$ at any point, then $f(M)$ can be realized as a holom…

Yan and F. Zheng. The claim that if the index of complex relative nullity of the submanifold satisfies $ν_f^c<2n-2p$ at any point, then $f(M)$ can be realized as a holomorphic submanifold of a non-holomorphic Kaehler submanifold of $\R^{2n+p}$ of larger dimension and some large index of complex relative nullity. This conjecture had previously been confirmed by Dajczer-Gromoll for codimension $p=3$, and then by Yan-Zheng for $p=4$. For codimension $p\leq 11$, we already showed that the pointwise structure of the second fundamental form of the submanifold aligns with the anticipated characteristics, assuming the validity of the conjecture. In this paper, we confirm the conjecture until codimension $p=6$, whereas for codimensions $7\leq p\leq 9$ it is also possible that the submanifold exhibits a complex ruled structure with rulings of a specific dimension. Moreover, we prove that the claim of the conjecture holds for codimensions $7\leq p\leq 11$ albeit subject to an additional assumption.

Conformal Kaehler submanifolds
Authors:

Abstract:
This paper presents two results in the realm of conformal Kaehler submanifolds. These are conformal immersions of Kaehler manifolds into the standard flat Euclidean space. The proofs are obtained by making a rather strong use of several facts and techniques developed by S. Chion and M. Dajczer for the study of isometric immersions of Kaehler manifolds into the standard hyperbolic space.

The second fundamental form of the real Kaehler submanifolds

Abstract:
Let $f\colon M^{2n}\to\R^{2n+p}$, $2\leq p\leq n-1$, be an isometric immersion of a Kaehler manifold into Euclidean space. Yan and Zheng conjectured in \cite{YZ} that if the codimension is $p\leq 11$ then, along any connected component of an open dense subset of $M^{2n}$, the submanifold is as follows: it is either foliated by holomorphic submanifolds of dimension at least $2n-2p$ with tangent spa…

Yan and Zheng conjectured in \cite{YZ} that if the codimension is $p\leq 11$ then, along any connected component of an open dense subset of $M^{2n}$, the submanifold is as follows: it is either foliated by holomorphic submanifolds of dimension at least $2n-2p$ with tangent spaces in the kernel of the second fundamental form whose images are open subsets of affine vector subspaces, or it is embedded holomorphically in a Kaehler submanifold of $\R^{2n+p}$ of larger dimension than $2n$. This bold conjecture was proved by Dajczer and Gromoll just for codimension three and then by Yan and Zheng for codimension four.
In this paper we prove that the second fundamental form of the submanifold behaves pointwise as expected in case that the conjecture is true. This result is a first fundamental step for a possible classification of the non-holomorphic Kaehler submanifolds lying with low codimension in Euclidean space. A counterexample shows that our proof does not work for higher codimension, indicating that proposing $p=11$ in the conjecture as the largest codimension is appropriate.

The local classification of Kaehler submanifolds $M^{2n}$ of the hyperbolic space $\mathbb{H}^{2n+p}$ with low codimension $2\leq p\leq n-1$ under only intrinsic assumptions remains a wide open problem. The situation is quite different for submanifolds in the round sphere $\mathbb{S}^{2n+p}$, $2\leq p\leq n-1$, since Florit, Hui and Zheng have shown that the codimension has to be $p=n-1$ and then that any submanifold is just part of an extrinsic product of two-dimensional umbilical spheres in $\mathbb{S}^{3n-1}\subset\mathbb{R}^{3n}$. The main result of this paper is a version for Kaehler manifolds isometrically immersed into the hyperbolic ambient space of the result for spherical submanifolds. Besides, we generalize several results obtained by Dajczer and Vlachos.

In the latter case, we have that $h\colon M^{2n}\to N^{2n+2}$ is holomorphic and $F\colon N^{2n+2}\to\mathbb{R}^{2n+4}$ belongs to the class, by now quite well understood, of non-holomorphic Kaehler submanifold in codimension two. Moreover, the submanifold $F$ is minimal if and only if $f$ is minimal.

In this article we introduce the notion of a Ribaucour partial tube and use it to derive several applications. These are based on a characterization of Ribaucour partial tubes as the immersions of a product of two manifolds into a space form such that the distributions given by the tangent spaces of the factors are orthogonal to each other with respect to the induced metric, are invariant under all shape operators, and one of them is spherical. Our first application is a classification of all hypersurfaces with dimension at least three of a space form that carry a spherical foliation of codimension one, extending previous results by Dajczer, Rovenski and the second author for the totally geodesic case. We proceed to prove a general decomposition theorem for immersions of product manifolds, which extends several related results. Other main applications concern the class of hypersurfaces of $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ that are of Enneper type, that is, hypersurfaces that carry a family of lines of curvature, correspondent to a simple principal curvature, whose orthogonal $(n-1)$-dimensional distribution is integrable and whose leaves are contained in hyperspheres or affine hyperplanes of $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$. We show how Ribaucour partial tubes in the sphere can be used to describe all $n$-dimensional hypersurfaces of Enneper type for which the leaves of the $(n-1)$-dimensional distribution are contained in affine hyperplanes of $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$, and then show how a general hypersurface of Enneper type can be constructed in terms of a hypersurface in the latter class. We give an explicit description of some special hypersurfaces of Enneper type, among which are natural generalizations of the so called Joachimsthal surfaces.
