The Zirconium isotopes exhibit structural properties that present multiple challenges to nuclear theory. To shed light on the underlying causes of the observations, and to test the predictive power of a state-of-the-art nuclear structure approach, we have completed a large number of calculations of ground and excited-state properties of Zr isotopes. We performed systematic calculations of ground state properties for the $^{78-122}$Zr isotopes, using an axially-symmetric, deformed Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) framework. For selected spherical and deformed nuclei, we have also predicted excited state properties, utilizing the Quasiparticle Random Phase Approximation (QRPA). We use a self-consistent approach that employs the same Gogny D1M force at both the HFB and QRPA levels. Our approach complements and extends earlier studies carried out using density-functional-based methods. Notably, we included the complete Coulomb interaction also in the pairing fields, i.e. we treat terms exactly that are approximated in typical calculations with Gogny D1 and D2 interaction families. The impact of these terms on the pairing energies, the binding energy, charge radius shifts, and on the evolution of the energy surface with neutron number is discussed. We compare this with the effect of using the D1S force and discuss the resulting shape predictions for $^{80}$Zr and $^{96,98}$Zr. For $^{90,96,98}$Zr, we perform QRPA calculations, implement angular-momentum symmetry restoration, and study both low-lying and giant-resonance states. For the deformed $^{98}$Zr nucleus, we confirm the existence of coupling between monopole and quadrupole excitations through the $K^π = 0^{+}$ QRPA components and demonstrate an analogous dipole-octupole coupling through the $K^π = 0^{-}$ and $K^π = 1^{-}$ components. Intrinsic transition densities and associated radial projections illustrate the coupling.

The description of stellar interior remains as a big challenge for the nuclear astrophysics community. The consolidated knowledge is restricted to density regions around the saturation of hadronic matter $ρ_{0} = 2.8\times 10^{14} {\rm\ g\ cm^{-3}}$, regimes where our nuclear models are successfully applied. As one moves towards higher densities and extreme conditions up to five to twenty times $ρ_{0}$, little can be said about the microphysics of such objects. Here, we employ a Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) strategy to access the variability of polytropic three-pircewised models for neutron star equation of state. With a fixed description of the hadronic matter, we explore a variety of models for the high density regimes leading to stellar masses up to $2.5\ M_{\odot}$. In addition, we also discuss the use of a Bayesian power regression model with heteroscedastic error. The set of EoS from the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) was used as inputs and treated as data set for testing case.

Reliable predictions of the static and dynamic properties of a nucleus require a fully microscopic description of both ground and excited states of this complicated many-body quantum system. Predictive calculations are key to understanding such systems and are important ingredients for simulating stellar environments and for enabling a variety of contemporary nuclear applications. Challenges that theory has to address include accounting for nuclear deformation and the ability to describe medium-mass and heavy nuclei. Here, we perform a study of nuclear states in an Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) and Quasiparticle Random Phase Approximation (QRPA) framework that utilizes an axially-symmetric deformed basis. We present some useful techniques for testing the consistency of such calculations and for interpreting the results.

Neutron stars (NS) are compact objects with strong gravitational fields, and a matter composition subject to extreme physical conditions. The properties of strongly interacting matter at ultra-high densities and temperatures impose a big challenge to our understanding and modelling tools. Some difficulties are critical, since one cannot reproduce such conditions in our laboratories or assess them purely from astronomical observations. The information we have about neutron star interiors are often extracted indirectly, e.g., from the star mass-radius relation. The mass and radius are global quantities and still have a significant uncertainty, which leads to great variability in studying the micro-physics of the neutron star interior. This leaves open many questions in nuclear astrophysics and the suitable equation of state (EoS) of NS. Recently, new observations appear to constrain the mass-radius and consequently has helped to close some open questions. In this work, utilizing modern machine learning techniques, we analyze the NS mass-radius (M-R) relationship for a set of EoS containing a variety of physical models. Our objective is to determine patterns through the M-R data analysis and develop tools to understand the EoS of neutron stars in forthcoming works.

Neutron stars are compact objects of large interest in the nuclear astrophysics community. The extreme conditions present in such systems impose big challenges to our current microscopic models of nuclear structure. Equation of states (EoS) are frequently derived from sophisticated quantum mechanical models, such as: relativistic, non-relativistic and many mean-field approaches. Every single model, in general, contains many parameters such as the NN interaction strength, particle compositions, etc. These are particular features of each model and can be represented by numbers and categories in a machine learning context. Different choices of features will affect EoS properties leading to different macroscopic properties of the star. In this work we analyze a selection of EoS containing a variety of different physics models. One of our objectives is to develop tools that enable a better understanding of the correlations among the different model features and the outcome produced by them when employed to model neutron stars.

Calculations of inclusive $α$ particle production are performed to interpret reaction experimental data induced by the two-neutron halo $^6$He and the isotopes $^{6,7}$Li on different target nuclei. We have implemented the zero-range post-form DWBA to compute the elastic and nonelastic breakup cross sections. Integrated cross sections, angular distributions and spectra are presented. Projectiles are approximated as two-body clusters, namely $^6$He as $α$+dineutron and $^{6}$Li ($^{7}$Li) interpreted as $α$+deuteron(triton). The São Paulo optical potential is employed in the calculation of the distorted wave functions for the incident channels, while standard phenomenological interactions are used for the fragment-target interactions. Calculations for $^6$Li and $^7$Li furnish a good description of the data, while the reaction involving $^6$He is found to be a complicated case, where data interpretation is still considered a major obstacle. The present analysis identifies an overall large contribution from inclusive breakup emissions for all the cases studied.

The corresponding core from exotic nuclei is usually observed while the others fragments of the reaction are not. We use the recently proposed theory by [Phys. Lett. B767, 53 (2017)] with a four-body description of the inclusive breakup reaction where the projectile is 20C described like a two-neutron halo nucleus. The momentum of both neutrons are integrated out giving a generic description of the core angular distribution. In this preliminary study we perform an analysis of the inclusive inelastic breakup cross-section using the eikonal approximation for the distorted wave function of the projectile. A study of the inclusive inelastic cross-sections of 20C from the collision with different targets are presented.

Magnetic field generation in three-dimensional Rayleigh-Bénard convection of an electrically conducting fluid is studied numerically by fixing the Prandtl number at $P=0.3$ and varying the Rayleigh number (Ra) as a control parameter. A recently reported route to hyperchaos involving quasiperiodic regimes, crises and chaotic intermittent attractors is followed, and the critical magnetic Prandtl number ($P_m^c$) for dynamo action is determined as a function of Ra. A mechanism for the onset of intermittency in the magnetic energy is described, the most beneficial convective regimes for dynamo action in this transition to weak turbulence are identified, and the impact of intermittency on the dependence of $P_m^c$ on Ra is discussed.

Transition to hyperchaotic regimes in Rayleigh-Benard convection in a square periodicity cell is studied by three-dimensional numerical simulations. By fixing the Prandtl number at P=0.3 and varying the Rayleigh number as a control parameter, a bifurcation diagram is constructed where a route to hyperchaos involving quasiperiodic regimes with two and three incommensurate frequencies, multistability, chaotic intermittent attractors and a sequence of boundary and interior crises is shown. The three largest Lyapunov exponents exhibit a linear scaling with the Rayleigh number and are positive in the final hyperchaotic attractor. Thus, a route to weak turbulence is found.
