We upgrade the results of Borot--Bouchard--Chidambaram--Creutzig to show that the Gaiotto vector in $\mathcal{N} = 2$ pure supersymmetric gauge theory admits an analytic continuation with respect to the energy scale (which can therefore be taken to be finite, instead of infinitesimal), and is computed by topological recursion on the (ramified) UV or Gaiotto spectral curve. This has a number of interesting consequences for the Gaiotto vector: relations to intersection theory on $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_{g,n}$ in at least two different ways, Hurwitz numbers, quantum curves, and (almost complete) description of the correlators as analytic functions of $\hbar$ (instead of formal series). The same method is used to establish analogous results for the more general Whittaker vector constructed in the recent work of Chidambaram--Dolega--Osuga.

We show that $b$-Hurwitz numbers with a rational weight are obtained by taking an explicit limit of a Whittaker vector for the $\mathcal{W}$-algebra of type $A$. Our result is a vast generalization of several previous results that treated the monotone case, and the cases of quadratic and cubic polynomial weights. It also provides an interpretation of the associated Whittaker vector in terms of generalized branched coverings that might be of independent interest. Our result is new even in the special case $b=0$ that corresponds to classical hypergeometric Hurwitz numbers, and implies that they are governed by the topological recursion of Eynard-Orantin. This gives an independent proof of the recent result of Bychkov-Dunin-Barkowski-Kazarian-Shadrin.

When does topological recursion applied to a family of spectral curves commute with taking limits? This problem is subtle, especially when the ramification structure of the spectral curve changes at the limit point. We provide sufficient (straightforward-to-use) conditions for checking when the commutation with limits holds, thereby closing a gap in the literature where this compatibility has been used several times without justification. This takes the form of a stronger result of analyticity of the topological recursion along suitable families. To tackle this question, we formalise the notion of global topological recursion and provide sufficient conditions for its equivalence with local topological recursion. The global version facilitates the study of analyticity and limits. For nondegenerate algebraic curves, we reformulate these conditions purely in terms of the structure of its underlying singularities. Finally, we apply this to study deformations of $ (r,s) $-spectral curves, spectral curves for weighted Hurwitz numbers, and provide several other examples and non-examples (where the commutation with limits fails).

We construct and study various properties of a negative spin version of the Witten $ r $-spin class. By taking the top Chern class of a certain vector bundle on the moduli space of twisted spin curves that parametrises $ r $-th roots of the anticanonical bundle, we construct a non-semisimple cohomological field theory (CohFT) that we call the Theta class $ Θ^r $. This CohFT does not have a flat unit and its associated Dubrovin--Frobenius manifold is nowhere semisimple. Despite this, we construct a semisimple deformation of the Theta class, and using the Teleman reconstruction theorem, we obtain tautological relations on $ \overline{\mathcal{M}}_{g,n} $. We further consider the descendant potential of the Theta class and prove that it is the unique solution to a set of $ \mathcal{W} $-algebra constraints, which implies a recursive formula for the descendant integrals. Using this result for $ r = 2 $, we prove Norbury's conjecture which states that the descendant potential of $ Θ^2 $ coincides with the Brézin--Gross--Witten tau function of the KdV hierarchy. Furthermore, we conjecture that the descendant potential of $ Θ^r $ is the $ r $-BGW tau function of the $ r $-KdV hierarchy and prove the conjecture for $ r = 3 $.

The Witten $r$-spin class defines a non-semisimple cohomological field theory. Pandharipande, Pixton and Zvonkine studied two special shifts of the Witten class along two semisimple directions of the associated Dubrovin--Frobenius manifold using the Givental--Teleman reconstruction theorem. We show that the $R$-matrix and the translation of these two specific shifts can be constructed from the solutions of two differential equations that generalise the classical Airy differential equation. Using this, we prove that the descendant intersection theory of the shifted Witten classes satisfies topological recursion on two $1$-parameter families of spectral curves. By taking the limit as the parameter goes to zero for these families of spectral curves, we prove that the descendant intersection theory of the Witten $r$-spin class can be computed by topological recursion on the $r$-Airy spectral curve. We finally show that this proof suffices to deduce Witten's $r$-spin conjecture, already proved by Faber, Shadrin and Zvonkine, which claims that the generating series of $r$-spin intersection numbers is the tau function of the $r$-KdV hierarchy that satisfies the string equation.

This implies that Gaiotto vectors, describing the fundamental class in the equivariant cohomology of a suitable compactification of the moduli space of $G$-bundles over $\mathbb{P}^2$ for $G$ a complex simple Lie group, can be computed by a non-commutative version of the Chekhov-Eynard-Orantin topological recursion. We formulate the connection to higher Airy structures for Gaiotto vectors of type A, B, C, and D, and explicitly construct the topological recursion for type A (at arbitrary level) and type B (at self-dual level). On the physics side, it means that the Nekrasov partition function for pure $\mathcal{N} = 2$ four-dimensional supersymmetric gauge theories can be accessed by topological recursion methods.

We study a Fourier-Mukai kernel associated to a GIT wall-crossing for arbitrarily singular (not necessarily reduced or irreducible) affine varieties over any field. This kernel is closely related to a derived fiber product diagram for the wall-crossing and simple to understand from the viewpoint of commutative differential graded algebras. However, from the perspective of algebraic varieties, the kernel can be quite complicated, corresponding to a complex with multiple homology sheaves. Under mild assumptions in the Calabi-Yau case, we prove that this kernel provides an equivalence between the category of perfect complexes on the two GIT quotients. More generally, we obtain semi-orthogonal decompositions which show that these categories differ by a certain number of copies of the derived category of the derived fixed locus. The derived equivalence for the Mukai flop is recovered as a very special case.

We develop a generalization of the $Q$-construction of the first author, Diemer, and the third author for Grassmann flips. This generalization provides a canonical idempotent kernel on the derived category of the associated global quotient stack. The idempotent kernel, after restriction, induces a semi-orthogonal decomposition which compares the flipped varieties. Furthermore its image, after restriction to the geometric invariant theory semistable locus, "opens" a canonical "window" in the derived category of the quotient stack. We check this window coincides with the set of representations used by Kapranov to form a full exceptional collection on Grassmannians.

We define higher quantum Airy structures as generalizations of the Kontsevich-Soibelman quantum Airy structures by allowing differential operators of arbitrary order (instead of only quadratic). We construct many classes of examples of higher quantum Airy structures as modules of $\mathcal{W}(\mathfrak{g})$ algebras at self-dual level, with $\mathfrak{g}= \mathfrak{gl}_{N+1}$, $\mathfrak{so}_{2 N }$ or $\mathfrak{e}_N$. We discuss their enumerative geometric meaning in the context of (open and closed) intersection theory of the moduli space of curves and its variants. Some of these $\mathcal{W}$ constraints have already appeared in the literature, but we find many new ones. For $\mathfrak{gl}_{N+1}$ our result hinges on the description of previously unnoticed Lie subalgebras of the algebra of modes. As a consequence, we obtain a simple characterization of the spectral curves (with arbitrary ramification) for which the Bouchard-Eynard topological recursion gives symmetric $ω_{g,n}$s and is thus well defined. For all such cases, we show that the topological recursion is equivalent to $\mathcal{W}(\mathfrak{gl})$ constraints realized as higher quantum Airy structures, and obtain a Givental-like decomposition for the corresponding partition functions.

A coset model based on the hyperbolic Kac-Moody algebra E10 has been conjectured to underly eleven-dimensional supergravity and M theory. In this note we study the canonical structure of the bosonic model for finite- and infinite-dimensional groups. In the case of finite-dimensional groups like GL(n) we exhibit a convenient set of variables with Borel-type canonical brackets. The generalisation to the Kac-Moody case requires a proper treatment of the imaginary roots that remains elusive. As a second result, we show that the supersymmetry constraint of D=11 supergravity can be rewritten in a suggestive way using E10 algebra data. Combined with the canonical structure, this rewriting explains the previously observed association of the canonical constraints with null roots of E10. We also exhibit a basic incompatibility between local supersymmetry and the K(E10) `R symmetry', that can be traced back to the presence of imaginary roots and to the unfaithfulness of the spinor representations occurring in the present formulation of the E10 worldline model, and that may require a novel type of bosonisation/fermionisation for its resolution. This appears to be a key challenge for future progress with E10.
