The quality of underground space information data has become a major problem endangering the safety of underground space. After research and analysis, we found that the current high accuracy information data remote detection methods are limited to the detection of overground spaces objects, and are not applicable to the detection of various information data in underground space. In this paper, we analyze the spectral properties of the fractional-order differential (FDO) operator, and establish mathematical model of remote transmission and high-precision detection of information data, which realizes the functions of high-precision and remote detection of information data. By fusing the information data to detect the mathematical model in a long distance and with high accuracy, A mathematical model has been established to improve the quality of underground spatial information data. Through the application in engineering practice, the effectiveness of this method in underground space information data detection is verified.

Math Word Problems (MWPs) are crucial for evaluating the capability of Large Language Models (LLMs), with current research primarily focusing on questions with concise contexts. However, as real-world math problems often involve complex circumstances, LLMs' ability to solve long MWPs is vital for their applications in these scenarios, yet remains under-explored. This study pioneers the exploration of Context Length Generalizability (CoLeG), the ability of LLMs to solve long MWPs. We introduce Extended Grade-School Math (E-GSM), a collection of MWPs with lengthy narratives. Two novel metrics are proposed to assess the efficacy and resilience of LLMs in solving these problems. Our examination of existing zero-shot prompting techniques and both proprietary and open-source LLMs reveals a general deficiency in CoLeG. To alleviate these challenges, we propose distinct approaches for different categories of LLMs. For proprietary LLMs, a new instructional prompt is proposed to mitigate the influence of long context. For open-source LLMs, a new data augmentation task is developed to improve CoLeG. Our comprehensive results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed methods, showing not only improved performance on E-GSM but also generalizability across several other MWP benchmarks. Our findings pave the way for future research in employing LLMs for complex, real-world applications, offering practical solutions to current limitations and opening avenues for further exploration of model generalizability and training methodologies.

For twisted bilayer graphene close to magic angle, we show that the effects of lattice relaxation and the Hartree interaction both become simultaneously important. Including both effects in a continuum theory reveals a Lifshitz transition to a Fermi surface topology that supports both a ``heavy fermion" pocket and an ultraflat band ($\approx 8~{\rm meV}$) that is pinned to the Fermi energy for a large range of fillings. We provide analytical and numerical results to understand the narrow ``magic angle range" that supports this pinned ultraflat band and make predictions for its experimental observation. We believe that the bands presented here are accurate at high temperature and provide a good starting point to understand the myriad of complex behaviour observed in this system.

In this paper, a deep learning method for solving an improved one-dimensional Poisson-Nernst-Planck ion channel (PNPic) model, called the PNPic deep learning solver, is presented. In particular, it combines a novel local neural network scheme with an effective PNPic finite element solver. Since the input data of the neural network scheme only involves a small local patch of coarse grid solutions, which the finite element solver can quickly produce, the PNPic deep learning solver can be trained much faster than any corresponding conventional global neural network solvers. After properly trained, it can output a predicted PNPic solution in a much higher degree of accuracy than the low cost coarse grid solutions and can reflect different perturbation cases on the parameters, ion channel subregions, and interface and boundary values, etc. Consequently, the PNPic deep learning solver can generate a numerical solution with high accuracy for a family of PNPic models. As an initial study, two types of numerical tests were done by perturbing one and two parameters of the PNPic model, respectively, as well as the tests done by using a few perturbed interface positions of the model as training samples. These tests demonstrate that the PNPic deep learning solver can generate highly accurate PNPic numerical solutions.

We study the tensor robust principal component analysis (TRPCA) problem, a tensorial extension of matrix robust principal component analysis (RPCA), that aims to split the given tensor into an underlying low-rank component and a sparse outlier component. This work proposes a fast algorithm, called Robust Tensor CUR Decompositions (RTCUR), for large-scale non-convex TRPCA problems under the Tucker rank setting. RTCUR is developed within a framework of alternating projections that projects between the set of low-rank tensors and the set of sparse tensors. We utilize the recently developed tensor CUR decomposition to substantially reduce the computational complexity in each projection. In addition, we develop four variants of RTCUR for different application settings. We demonstrate the effectiveness and computational advantages of RTCUR against state-of-the-art methods on both synthetic and real-world datasets.

We introduce 'single-particle-exact density functional theory' (1pEx-DFT), a novel density functional approach that represents all single-particle contributions to the energy with exact functionals. Here, we parameterize interaction energy functionals by utilizing two new schemes for constructing density matrices from 'participation numbers' of the single-particle states of quantum many-body systems. These participation numbers play the role of the variational variables akin to the particle densities in standard orbital-free density functional theory. We minimize the total energies with the help of evolutionary algorithms and obtain ground-state energies that are typically accurate at the one-percent level for our proof-of-principle simulations that comprise interacting Fermi gases as well as the electronic structure of atoms and ions, with and without relativistic corrections. We thereby illustrate the ingredients and practical features of 1pEx-DFT and reveal its potential of becoming an accurate, scalable, and transferable technology for simulating mesoscopic quantum many-body systems.

An integral equation method is presented for the 1D steady-state Poisson-Nernst-Planck equations modeling ion transport through membrane channels. The differential equations are recast as integral equations using Green's 3rd identity yielding a fixed-point problem for the electric potential gradient and ion concentrations. The integrals are discretized by a combination of midpoint and trapezoid rules and the resulting algebraic equations are solved by Gummel iteration. Numerical tests for electroneutral and non-electroneutral systems demonstrate the method's 2nd order accuracy and ability to resolve sharp boundary layers. The method is applied to a 1D model of the K$^+$ ion channel with a fixed charge density that ensures cation selectivity. In these tests, the proposed integral equation method yields potential and concentration profiles in good agreement with published results.

Media bias can significantly impact the formation and development of opinions and sentiments in a population. It is thus important to study the emergence and development of partisan media and political polarization. However, it is challenging to quantitatively infer the ideological positions of media outlets. In this paper, we present a quantitative framework to infer both political bias and content quality of media outlets from text, and we illustrate this framework with empirical experiments with real-world data. We apply a bidirectional long short-term memory (LSTM) neural network to a data set of more than 1 million tweets to generate a two-dimensional ideological-bias and content-quality measurement for each tweet. We then infer a ``media-bias chart'' of (bias, quality) coordinates for the media outlets by integrating the (bias, quality) measurements of the tweets of the media outlets. We also apply a variety of baseline machine-learning methods, such as a naive-Bayes method and a support-vector machine (SVM), to infer the bias and quality values for each tweet. All of these baseline approaches are based on a bag-of-words approach. We find that the LSTM-network approach has the best performance of the examined methods. Our results illustrate the importance of leveraging word order into machine-learning methods in text analysis.

A finite element solution of an ion channel dielectric continuum model such as Poisson-Boltzmann equation (PBE) and a system of Poisson-Nernst-Planck equations (PNP) requires tetrahedral meshes for an ion channel protein region, a membrane region, and an ionic solvent region as well as an interface fitted irregular tetrahedral mesh of a simulation box domain. However, generating these meshes is very difficult and highly technical due to the related three regions having very complex geometrical shapes. Currently, an ion channel mesh generation software package developed in Lu's research group is one available in the public domain. To significantly improve its mesh quality and computer performance, in this paper, new numerical schemes for generating membrane and solvent meshes are presented and implemented in Python, resulting in a new ion channel mesh generation software package. Numerical results are then reported to demonstrate the efficiency of the new numerical schemes and the quality of meshes generated by the new package for ion channel proteins with ion channel pores having different geometric complexities.

We report results of a project to map HCN and HCO+ J = 1-0 emission toward a sample of molecular clouds in the inner Galaxy, all containing dense clumps that are actively engaged in star formation. We compare these two molecular line tracers with millimeter continuum emission and extinction, as inferred from 13CO, as tracers of dense gas in molecular clouds. The fraction of the line luminosity from each tracer that comes from the dense gas, as measured by AV > 8 mag, varies substantially from cloud to cloud. In all cases, a substantial fraction (in most cases, the majority) of the total luminosity arises in gas below the AV > 8 mag threshold and outside the region of strong mm continuum emission. Measurements of the luminosity of HCN toward other galaxies will likely be dominated by such gas at lower surface density. Substantial, even dominant, contributions to the total line luminosity can arise in gas with densities typical of the cloud as a whole (densities about 100 per cubic cm). Defining the dense clump from the HCN or HCO+ emission itself, similarly to previous studies, leads to a wide range of clump properties, with some being considerably larger and less dense than in previous studies. HCN and HCO+ have similar ability to trace dense gas for the clouds in this sample. For the two clouds with low virial parameters, the 13CO is definitely a worse tracer of the dense gas, but for the other four, it is equally good (or bad) at tracing dense gas.

However, their contracts suffer from a problem of moral hazard for paying more compensation for a smaller loss. This paper addresses this setback by exogenously imposing the constraint that both the indemnity function and the insured's retention function be increasing with respect to the loss. We characterize the optimal solutions via calculus of variations, and then apply the result to obtain explicitly expressed contracts for problems with Yaari's dual criterion and general RDU. Finally, we use a numerical example to compare the results between ours and that of Bernard et al. (2015).

A new generalized multilinear regression model, termed the Higher-Order Partial Least Squares (HOPLS), is introduced with the aim to predict a tensor (multiway array) $\tensor{Y}$ from a tensor $\tensor{X}$ through projecting the data onto the latent space and performing regression on the corresponding latent variables. HOPLS differs substantially from other regression models in that it explains the data by a sum of orthogonal Tucker tensors, while the number of orthogonal loadings serves as a parameter to control model complexity and prevent overfitting. The low dimensional latent space is optimized sequentially via a deflation operation, yielding the best joint subspace approximation for both $\tensor{X}$ and $\tensor{Y}$. Instead of decomposing $\tensor{X}$ and $\tensor{Y}$ individually, higher order singular value decomposition on a newly defined generalized cross-covariance tensor is employed to optimize the orthogonal loadings. A systematic comparison on both synthetic data and real-world decoding of 3D movement trajectories from electrocorticogram (ECoG) signals demonstrate the advantages of HOPLS over the existing methods in terms of better predictive ability, suitability to handle small sample sizes, and robustness to noise.

In this paper, we show how to exploit real-time communication applications to determine the IP address of a targeted user. We focus our study on Skype, although other real-time communication applications may have similar privacy issues. We first design a scheme that calls an identified targeted user inconspicuously to find his IP address, which can be done even if he is behind a NAT. By calling the user periodically, we can then observe the mobility of the user. We show how to scale the scheme to observe the mobility patterns of tens of thousands of users. We also consider the linkability threat, in which the identified user is linked to his Internet usage. We illustrate this threat by combining Skype and BitTorrent to show that it is possible to determine the file-sharing usage of identified users. We devise a scheme based on the identification field of the IP datagrams to verify with high accuracy whether the identified user is participating in specific torrents. We conclude that any Internet user can leverage Skype, and potentially other real-time communication systems, to observe the mobility and file-sharing usage of tens of millions of identified users.

Entropy of Constrained Gravitational Instanton
Authors:
Wu Zhong Chao
Abstract:
The seeds for quantum creations of universes are constrained gravitational instantons. For all compact constrained instantons with U(1) isometry, the period $β$ of the group parameter $τ$ is identified as the reciprocal of the temperature. If $β$ remains a free parameter under the constraints, then the Euclidean action becomes the negative of the "entropy". As examples, we perform the calculatio…

As examples, we perform the calculations for the Taub-NUT and Taub-bolt-type models and study the quantum creation of the Taub-NUT universe.

Abstract:
In the absence of a general no-boundary proposal for open creation, the complex constrained instanton is used as the seed for the open pair creations of black holes in the Kerr-Newman-anti-de Sitter family. The relative probability of the chargeless and nonrotating black hole pair is the exponential of the negative of the entropy, and that of the charged and (or) rotating black hole pair is the…

Creation of a black hole in quantum cosmology is the third way of black hole formation. In contrast to the gravitational collapse from a massive body in astrophysics or from the quantum fluctuation of matter fields in the very early universe, in quantum cosmology scenario the black hole is essentially created from nothing. The black hole originates from a constrained gravitational instanton. The probability of creation for all kinds of single black holes in the Kerr- Newman-de Sitter family, at the semi-classical level, is the exponential of the total entropy of the universe, or one quarter of the sum of both the black hole and the cosmological horizon areas. The de Sitter spacetime is the most probable evolution at the Planckian era.

Causality, Time Arrow and Half Cycling Universe
Authors:
Wu Zhong Chao
Abstract:
If one introduces causality into quantum cosmology, then the prescription for the no-boundary universe should be revised. We show that the thermodymanic arrow of time associated with the perturbation modes should be reversed at the maximum expansion for the oscillating Hawking model. To an observer equipped with the time arrow, the universe will terminate its evolution after an half cycle.

Using the Hartle-Hawking no-boundary proposal for the wave function of the universe, we can study the wave function and probability of a single black hole created at the birth of the universe. The black hole originates from a constrained gravitational instanton with conical singularities. The wave function and probability of a universe with a black hole are calculated at the $WKB$ level. The probability of a black hole creation is the exponential of one quarter of the sum of areas of the black hole and cosmological horizons. One quarter of this sum is the total entropy of the universe. We show that these arguments apply to all kinds of black holes in the de Sitter space background.

In the No-Boundary Universe a primordial black hole is created from a constrained gravitational instanton. The black hole created is immersed in the de Sitter background with a positive cosmological constant. The constrained instanton is characterized not only by the external parameters, the mass parameter, charge and angular momentum, but also by one more internal parameter, the identification period in the imaginary time coordinate. Although the period has no effect on the black hole background, its inverse is the temperature of the no-boundary state of the perturbation modes perceived by an observer. By using the Bogoliubov transformation, we show that the perturbation modes of both scalar and spinor fields are in thermal q equilibrium with the black hole background at the arbitrary temperature. However, for the two extreme cases, the de Sitter and the Nariai models, the no-boundary state remains pure.
