Boundaries of galaxy groups and clusters are defined by the interplay between the Newtonian attractive force and the local repulsion force caused by the expansion of the Universe. This research extends the definition of zero radial acceleration surface (ZRAS) and the turnaround surface (TS) for a general distribution of the masses in an expanding background, governed by the cosmological constant. We apply these definitions for different galaxy groups in the local Universe, map** these groups up to ten megaparsec. We discuss the dipole and the quadrupole rate for the Local Group of Galaxies and the implementations for Hubble diagram correction and galaxy groups viralization. With these definitions, we indicate the surfaces showing the interplay between the local expansion vs the local Newtonian attraction for galaxy groups in the local Universe. The results show that it is important to include the cosmological constant in analyzing the Cosmic Flow of the local Universe.

The CPT theorem originally proven by Lüders and Pauli ensures the equality of masses, lifetimes, magnetic moments and cross sections of any particle and its antiparticle. We show that in a Lorentz invariant quantum field theory described by its Lagrangian, CPT-violating interaction alone does not split the masses of an elementary particle and its antiparticle but breaks only the equality of lifetimes, magnetic moments and cross sections. However, CPT violation in the mass term of a field in the Lagrangian, which can be attributed to be due to the size of the particle described by a form factor, breaks only the equality of masses. Also it is shown that the two separate effects of CPT violation in the interaction terms or in the mass term do not mix due to higher quantum corrections and remain distinguishable. Thus, we urge the experimentalists to search for such observable effects concerning differences in the masses, magnetic moments, lifetimes and cross sections between the elementary or bound state particles and their antiparticles. In the case of CPT violation only in the mass term, besides the difference in the masses of elementary bound state particles and their antiparticles, there will be also an extremely tiny difference in the lifetimes of bound states due to the difference in their phase spaces. From the details of calculations, it appears that the separate effects of the CPT violation described above are quite general, neither depending on how the nonlocality is achieved, nor depending on what this violation is due to: due to T violation, as considered in the present work, which can be attributed to a cosmological direction of time; to CP or to both T and CP violations. The latter two cases satisfy the Sakharov's conditions for explaining the baryon asymmetry in the Universe.

We analyze the Axion Electrodynamics in a two-dimensional slab of finite width $L$ containing a homogeneous and isotropic dielectric medium with constant permittivity and permeability. We start from the known decomposition of modes in the nonaxion case and then solve perturbatively the governing equations for the electromagnetic fields to which the axions are also coupled. This is a natural approach, since the finiteness of $L$ destroys the spatial invariance of the theory in the $z$ direction normal to the plates. In this way we derive the value of the axion-generated rotation angle of the electric and magnetic fields after their passage through the slab, and use the obtained results to calculate the Casimir force between the two conducting plates. Our calculations make use of the same method as previously outlined in \cite{hoye20} for the case of Casimir calculations in chiral media and extend former results on the Casimir force in the Axion Electrodynamics.

Starting from the theory of Axion Electrodynamics, we work out the axionic modifications to the electromagnetic Casimir energy using the Green's function, both when the axion field is initially assumed purely time-dependent and when the axion field configuration is a static domain wall. For the first case it means that the oscillating axion background is taken to resemble an axion fluid at rest in a conventional Casimir setup with two infinite parallel conducting plates, while in the second case we evaluate the radiation pressure acting on an axion domain wall. We extend previous theories in order to include finite temperatures. Various applications are discussed. 1. We review the theory of Axion Electrodynamics and particularly the energy-momentum conservation in a linear dielectric and magnetic material. We treat this last aspect by extending former results by Brevik and Chaichian (2022) and Patkos (2022). 2. Adopting the model of the oscillating axion background we discuss the axion-induced modifications to the Casimir force between two parallel plates by using a Green's function approach. 3. We calculate the radiation pressure acting on an axion domain wall at finite temperature T. Our results for an oscillating axion field and a domain wall are also useful for condensed matter physics, where "axionic topological insulators" interact with the electromagnetic field with a Chern-Simons interaction, like the one in Axion Electrodynamics, and there are experimental systems analogous to time-dependent axion fields and domain walls as the ones showed by Jiang, Q. D., \& Wilczek, F. (2019) and Fukushima et al. (2019). 4. We compare our results, where we assume time-dependent or space-dependent axion configurations, with the discussion of the optical activity of Axion Electrodynamics by Sikivie (2021) and Carrol et al. (1990).

Recently, many efforts have been made to generalize the $R+R^2$ (Starobinsky) model of inflation or use other shallow potentials to construct a model for the early Universe. We revise the question about the shallow potential. We propose a model in which the Starobinsky model can emerge through a dynamical mechanism. We show that the absence of ghost modes results to constraints on the parameters of the Starobinsky model. We obtain the scalar spectral index and the tensor-to-scalar ratio of the extended model and study the three-point correlation function of the curvature perturbation to estimate the primordial non-Gaussianities of the proposed model.

Various aspects of axion electrodynamics in the presence of a homogeneous and isotropic dielectric medium are discussed. 1. We consider first the "antenna-like" property of a planar dielectric surface in axion electrodynamics, elaborating on the treatment given earlier on this topic by Millar {\it et al.} (2017). We calculate the electromagnetic energy transmission coefficient for a dielectric plate, and compare with the conventional expression in ordinary electrodynamics. 2. We consider the situation where the medium exterior to the plate, assumed elastic, is "bent back" and glued together, so that we obtain a circular dielectric string in which the waves can propagate clockwise or counterclockwise. As will be shown, a stationary wave pattern is permitted by the formalism, and we show how the amplitudes for the two counterpropagating waves can be found. 3. As a special case, by omitting axions for a moment, we analyze the Casimir effect for the string, showing its similarity as well as its difference with the Casimir effect of a scalar field for a piecewise uniform string (Brevik and Nielsen 1990). 4. Finally, including axions again we analyze the enhancement of the surface-generated electromagnetic radiation near the center of a cylindrical haloscope, where the interior region is a vacuum and the exterior region a metal. This enhancement is caused by the curvature of the boundary, and is mathematically a consequence of the behavior of the Hankel function of the second kind for small arguments. A simple estimate shows that enhancement may be quite significant, and can therefore be of experimental interest. This proposal is suggested as an alternative to the reflector arrangement in a similar arrangement recently discussed by Liu {\it et al.} (2022).

Axion electrodynamics is based upon the Lagrangian of the electromagnetic (EM) field plus its interaction with the axions, and is accordingly a physically open system. It means that the four-divergence of the EM energy-momentum tensor is different from zero, implying in turn that the total EM energy and momentum (when integrated over all space) do not constitute a four-vector. The EM force is in principle accessible to experimental detection, just analogous to what is the case in ordinary electrodynamics. In the first half of this paper the energy-momentum aspects of axion electrodynamics are worked out in general, when the surroundings are allowed to be a medium with constant permittivity and permeability. In the second half, two examples are discussed. The first is a static situation, where a block of uniform material containing axions is exposed to external strong electric and magnetic fields. Assuming the axion amplitude $a(x)$ (i.e. its density) to increase linearly in one direction, we calculate the axion-generated forces. As a second example, we consider axions varying not with position but instead harmonically with time; this is the constellation usually assumed in astrophysics. Assuming a Gaussian profile for the EM wave emitted from the Earth towards an axion cloud in outer space, we make a calculation of the 'axion echo', the return signal.

A general axion-electrodynamic formalism is presented on the phenomenological level when the environment is dielectric (permittivity and permeability assumed to be constants). Thereafter, a strong and uniform magnetic field is considered in the $z$ direction, the field region having the form of a long material cylinder (which corresponds to the haloscope setup). If the axion amplitude depends on time only, the axions give rise to an oscillating electric current in the $z$ direction. We estimate the magnitudes of the azimuthal magnetic fields and the accompanying Joule heating in the cylinder, taking the cylinder to have ordinary dissipative properties. We evaluate and calculate the electric current and the heat production separately, without using the effective approximation, both when there is a strong magnetic field and when there is a strong electric one, showing that with the magnetic field there is a heat production, while with the electric field there is not.
The heat generation that we consider, is a nontrivial effect as it is generated by the electrically neutral axions, and has obvious consequences for axion thermodynamics. The heat production can moreover have an additional advantage, since the effect is accumulative and so grows with time. The boundary conditions (in a classical sense) are explained and the use of them in a quantum mechanical context is discussed. This point is nontrivial, accentuated in particular in connection with the Casimir effect. For comparison purposes, we present finally some results for heat dissipation taken from the theory of viscous cosmology.

We delve into the first principles of quantum field theory to prove that the so-called spin-1/2 ''bosons'' and the fermions with mass dimension 1, including ELKO, cannot represent physical particle states with spin $1/2$. Specifically, we first demonstrate that both aforementioned fields are not invariant under rotational symmetry, which implies that the particles created for these fields are not eigenstates of the spin operator in the $(\frac{1}{2},0)\oplus(0,\frac{1}{2})$ representation of the Lorentz group, nor is it possible to construct a Hamiltonian density scalar under the rotational group from them. Furthermore, following Weinberg's approach to local causal fields, we prove that regardless of any discrete symmetry or adjoint structure, the relativistic fields in the $(\frac{1}{2}, 0) \oplus (0,\frac{1}{2})$ representation satisfy the Fermi-Dirac statistics in complete agreement with the well-established spin-statistics theorem and experimental results.

We develop the Seiberg-Witten map using the gauge-covariant star product with the noncommutativity tensor $θ^{μν}(x)$. The latter guarantees the Lorentz invariance of the theory. The usual form of this map and its other recent generalizations do not consider such a covariant star product. We construct the Seiberg-Witten map for the gauge parameter, the gauge field and the strength tensor to the first order in the noncommutativity parameter $θ^{μν}(x)$. Prescription for the generalization of the map to higher orders is also given. Interestingly, the associativity of the covariant star product both in the first and second orders requires the same constraints, namely, on the $θ^{μν}(x)$ and on the space-time connection. This fact suggests that the same constraints could be enough to ensure the associativity in all orders. The resulting Seiberg-Witten map applies both to the internal and space-time gauge theories. Comparisons with the Seiberg-Witten map based on other (non-covariant) star products are given and some characteristic properties are also presented. As an application, we consider the $GL(2, C)$ noncommutative gauge theory of gravitation, in which it is shown that the connection determines a space-time with symplectic structure (as proposed by Zumino et al [AIP Conf. Proc. 1200 (2010), 204, arXiv:0910.0459]). This example shows that the constraints required for the associativity of the gauge-covariant star product can be satisfied. The presented $GL(2, C)$ noncommutative gauge theory of gravitation is also compared to the one (given by Chamseddine [Phys. Rev. D 69 (2004), 024015, hep-th/0309166]) with non-covariant star product.

Phenomenological implications of the Mimetic Tensor-Vector-Scalar theory (MiTeVeS) are studied. The theory is an extension of the vector field model of mimetic dark matter, where a scalar field is also incorporated, and it is known to be free from ghost instability. In the absence of interactions between the scalar field and the vector field, the obtained cosmological solution corresponds to the General theory of Relativity (GR) with a minimally-coupled scalar field. However, including an interaction term between the scalar field and the vector field yields interesting dynamics. There is a shift symmetry for the scalar field with a flat potential, and the conserved Noether current, which is associated with the symmetry, behaves as a dark matter component. Consequently, the solution contains a cosmological constant, dark matter and a stiff matter fluid. Breaking the shift symmetry with a non-flat potential gives a natural interaction between dark energy and dark matter.

Experimental observations indicate that gamma-ray bursts (GRB) and high-energy neutrino bursts may travel at different speeds with a typical delay measured at the order of hours or days. We discuss two potential interpretations for the GRB delay: dispersion of light in interstellar medium and violation of Lorentz invariance due to quantum gravitational fluctuations. Among a few other media, we consider dispersion of light in an axion plasma, obtaining the axion plasma frequency and the dispersion relation from quantum field theory for the first time. We find that the density of axions inferred from observations is far too low to produce the observed GRB delay. However, a more precise estimation of the spatial distribution of axions is required for a conclusive result. Other known media are also unable to account for the GRB delay, although there remains uncertainties in the observations of the delays. The interpretation in terms of Lorentz invariance violation and modified dispersion relation suffers from its own problems: since the modification of the dispersion relation should not be dependent on particle type, delays between photons and neutrinos are hard to explain. Thus neither interpretation is sufficient to explain the observations. We conclude that a crucial difference between the two interpretations is the frequency dependence of the propagation speed of radiation: in dispersive plasma the group speed increases with higher frequency, while Lorentz invariance violation implies lower speed at higher frequency. Future experiments shall resolve which one of the two frequency dependencies of GRB is actually the case.

Theoretical models and experimental observations suggest that gamma-ray bursts (GRB) and high-energy neutrino bursts travelling through the interstellar space may reach the Earth at different speeds. We propose and study in details the mechanism i), which always exists, where GRB are slowed down due to the dispersion of light in the interstellar medium. In addition to the standard media such as electrons and photons as CMB, we consider the medium with invisible axions. The amount of GRB delays in different media are calculated in details utilizing a novel technique in QFT by using the hitherto known or estimated densities of particles in the space without introducing any arbitrary parameter. Previously, the GRB delays have been interpreted as a sign of Lorentz invariance violation by modifying the dispersion relation of Special Relativity, which relates the energy, the momentum and the mass of a particle, based on different mechanisms ii), such as a stringy spacetime foam, coming from a quantum gravity effect and using an adjustable parameter. Obviously, all the above-mentioned mechanisms i) and ii) are induced (seeming) Lorentz invariance violations but not an intrinsic (genuine) one. The amount of GRB delay due to the two aforementioned interpretations can be distinguished by observing the time of arrival of light with different frequencies. Namely, dispersion of light i) predicts that the higher energy GRB arrive the Earth earlier, while in the other interpretations ii), they arrive later. We notice that the needed amount for delay due to the dispersion of light shall have the potential power to shed additional light on the microstructure of interstellar media with respect to the densities of constituent particles and the origins of their sources. Finally, we indicate the ways to detect the intrinsic Lorentz invariance violation and to interpret them theoretically.

First, we follow a formal approach, implying use of manifolds with curved space sections in accordance with Fermat's principle, emphasizing that the resulting covariant and contravariant components of the photon four-momentum is a property linked to the {\it Minkowski} theory only. There is thus no link to the Abraham theory in that context. Next we turn to the experimental side, giving a brief account of older and newer radiation pressure experiments that clearly show how the Minkowski photon momentum is preferable under optical conditions. We explore Sakharov's seminal idea that gravitational dynamics is induced by the quantum corrections from the matter sector. This was the starting point of the view that gravity has an emergent origin, which soon gained impetus due to the advent of black hole thermodynamics. In the generalized framework of Riemann--Cartan spacetime with both curvature and torsion, the induced gravitational action is obtained for free nonminimally coupled scalar and Dirac fields. For a realistic matter content, the induced Newton constant is obtained to be of the magnitude of the ultraviolet cutoff, which implies that the cutoff is of the order of the Planck mass. Finally, we conjecture that the action for any gauge theory of gravity at low energies can be induced by Sakharov's mechanism. This is explicitly shown by obtaining the Poincaré gauge theory of gravity.

The confinement condition we consider was obtained by Kugo and Ojima some decades ago. The current understanding of gauge theories permits us to apply the techniques straightforwardly for checking the validity of this criterion. In this way, we are able to show that the non-Abelian gauge theory is confining and that confinement is rooted in the BRST invariance and asymptotic freedom.

We investigate the metric perturbations of the restricted f(R) theory of gravity in the cosmological context and explore the phenomenological implications of this model. We show that it is possible to construct a restricted model of gravity, in which the background equations are the same as the equations of motion which are derived from the Einstein-Hilbert action with the cosmological constant term. We argue that the deviation from the Einstein-Hilbert model emerges in the perturbed equations, for which we have a non-vanishing anisotropic stress. Further, with the help of the results of Planck data for the modified gravity we obtain constraints on the parameters of the model.

In the case when the dimensions of homologies of appropriate topological spaces are precisely known, the procedure of the calculation of the Kovanov-Rozansky type homology, based on the Euler-Poincaré formula can be appreciably simplified. We express the formal character of the irreducible tensor representation of the classical groups in terms of the symmetric and spectral functions of hyperbolic geometry. On the basis of Labastida-Mariño-Ooguri-Vafa conjecture, we derive a representation of the Chern-Simons partition function in the form of an infinite product in terms of the Ruelle spectral functions (the cases of a knot, unknot, and links have been considered). We also derive an infinite-product formula for the orthogonal Chern-Simons partition functions and analyze the singularities and the symmetry properties of the infinite-product structures.

We perform canonical analysis of both projectable and non-projectable versions of the theory. We obtain the structure of constraints in each case, and analyze its dependence on the values of the coupling constants involved in the additional constraints. In the non-projectable theory, the scalar graviton is absent when the coupling constants have certain values, while for other values the scalar graviton appears. The projectable theory is free from the scalar graviton regardless of the values of the coupling constants, even though the structure of constraints does depend on the value of a coupling constant.

We study the consistency of such theories with respect to the absence of ghost instability and propose a new tensor-vector-scalar theory of gravity, which is a generalization of the previous models of mimetic dark matter with additional desirable features. The original model proposed by Chamseddine and Mukhanov [JHEP 1311 (2013) 135, arXiv:1308.5410] is concluded to describe a regular pressureless dust, presuming that we consider only those configurations where the energy density of the mimetic dust remains positive under time evolution. For certain type of configurations the theory can become unstable. Both alternative modified theories of gravity, which are based on a vector field (tensor-vector theory) or a vector field and a scalar field (tensor-vector-scalar theory), are free of ghost instabilities.

The common feature in our examples lie in the modular properties of the characters of certain representations of the pertinent affine Lie algebras, and in the role of spectral functions of hyperbolic three-geometry associated with q-series in the calculation of elliptic genera. We present new calculations of supergravity elliptic genera on local Calabi-Yau threefolds in terms of BPS invariants and spectral functions, and also of equivariant D-brane elliptic genera on generic toric singularities. We use these examples to conjecture a link between the black hole partition functions and elliptic cohomology.

We study a Lie algebra of formal vector fields $W_n$ with its application to the perturbative deformed holomorphic symplectic structure in the A-model, and a Calabi-Yau manifold with boundaries in the B-model. A relevant concept in the vertex operator algebra and the BRST cohomology is that of the elliptic genera (the one-loop string partition function). We show that the elliptic genera can be written in terms of spectral functions of the hyperbolic three-geometry (which inherits the cohomology structure of BRST-like operator). We show that equivalence classes of deformations are described by a Hochschild cohomology theory of the DG-algebra ${\mathfrak A} = (A, Q)$, $Q =\bar{\partial}+\partial_{\rm deform}$, which is defined to be the cohomology of $(-1)^n Q +d_{\rm Hoch}$. Here $\bar{\partial}$ is the initial non-deformed BRST operator while $\partial_{\rm deform}$ is the deformed part whose algebra is a Lie algebra of linear vector fields ${\rm gl}_n$. We discuss the identification of the harmonic structure $(HT^\bullet(X); HΩ_\bullet(X))$ of affine space $X$ and the group ${\rm Ext}_{X}^n({\cal O}_{\triangle}, {\cal O}_{\triangle})$ (the HKR isomorphism), and bulk-boundary deformation pairing.

In order to explore some general features of modified theories of gravity which involve higher derivatives and spontaneous Lorentz and/or diffeomorphism symmetry breaking, we study the recently proposed new version of covariant renormalizable gravity (CRG). CRG attains power-counting renormalizability via higher derivatives and introduction of a constrained scalar field and spontaneous symmetry breaking. We obtain an Arnowitt-Deser-Misner representation of the CRG action in four-dimensional spacetime with respect to a foliation of spacetime adapted to the constrained scalar field. The resulting action is analyzed by using Hamiltonian formalism. We discover that CRG contains two extra degrees of freedom. One of them carries negative energy (a ghost) and it will destabilize the theory due to its interactions. This result is in contrast with the original paper [Phys. Lett. B 701, 117 (2011), arXiv:1104.4286 [hep-th]], where it was concluded that the theory is free of ghosts and renormalizable when we analyze fluctuations on the flat background.

The thermal correction to the energy of Casimir-Polder interaction of atoms with a suspended graphene membrane described by the Dirac model is investigated. We show that a major impact on the thermal correction is made by the size of the gap in the energy spectrum of graphene quasiparticles. Specifically, if the temperature is much smaller than the gap parameter (alternatively, larger or of the order of the gap parameter), the thermal correction is shown to be relatively small (alternatively, large). We have calculated the free energy of the thermal Casimir-Polder interaction of atoms of He, Na, Rb, and Cs with graphene described by both the hydrodynamic and Dirac models. It is shown that in exact computations using the Dirac model, one should use the polarization operator at nonzero temperature. The computational results for the Casimir-Polder free energy obtained in the framework of hydrodynamic model of graphene are several times larger than in the Dirac model within the separation region below 2$μ$m. We conclude that the theoretical predictions following from the two models can be reliably discriminated in experiments on quantum reflection of different atoms on graphene.

A Lorentz-invariant CPT violation, which may be termed as long-distance CPT violation in contrast to the familiar short-distance CPT violation, has been recently proposed. This scheme is based on a non-local interaction vertex and characterized by an infrared divergent form factor. We show that the Lorentz covariant $T^{\star}$-product is consistently defined and the energy-momentum conservation is preserved in perturbation theory if the path integral is suitably defined for this non-local theory, although unitarity is generally lost. It is illustrated that T violation is realized in the decay and formation processes. It is also argued that the equality of masses and decay widths of the particle and anti-particle is preserved if the non-local CPT violation is incorporated either directly or as perturbation by starting with the conventional CPT-even local Lagrangian. However, we also explicitly show that the present non-local scheme can induce the splitting of particle and anti-particle mass eigenvalues if one considers a more general class of Lagrangians.

We consider the controversial hypothesis that gravity is an entropic force that has its origin in the thermodynamics of holographic screens. Several key aspects of entropic gravity are discussed. In particular, we revisit and elaborate on our criticism of the recent claim that entropic gravity fails to explain observations involving gravitationally-bound quantum states of neutrons in the GRANIT experiment and gravitationally induced quantum interference. We argue that the analysis leading to this claim is troubled by a misinterpretation concerning the relation between the microstates of a holographic screen and the state of a particle in the emergent space, engendering inconsistencies. A point of view that could resolve the inconsistencies is presented. We expound the general idea of the aforementioned critical analysis of entropic gravity in such a consistent setting. This enables us to clarify the problem and to identify a premise whose validity will decide the faith of the criticism against entropic gravity. It is argued that in order to reach a sensible conclusion we need more detailed knowledge on entropic gravity. These arguments are relevant to any theory of emergent space, where the entropy of the microscopic system depends on the distribution of matter in the emergent space.

We find that EG does not necessarily contradict the existence of gravitationally-bound quantum states of neutrons in the Earth's gravitational field, since EG is equivalent to Newtonian gravity in this case. However, certain transitions between the gravitationally-bound quantum states of neutrons, in particular spontaneous decays of excited states, which can hopefully be observed in future experiments, cannot be explained in the framework of EG, unless essential ingredients are introduced into it. Otherwise, a quantized description of gravity will be required.

We present a class of interacting nonlocal quantum field theories, in which the CPT invariance is violated while the Lorentz invariance is present. This result rules out a previous claim in the literature that the CPT violation implies the violation of Lorentz invariance. Furthermore, there exists the reciprocal of this theorem, namely that the violation of Lorentz invariance does not lead to the CPT violation, provided that the residual symmetry of Lorentz invariance admits the proper representation theory for the particles. The latter occurs in the case of quantum field theories on a noncommutative space-time, which in place of the broken Lorentz symmetry possesses the twisted Poincaré invariance. With such a CPT-violating interaction and the addition of a C-violating (e.g., electroweak) interaction, the quantum corrections due to the combined interactions could lead to different properties for the particle and antiparticle, including their masses.

We obtain a space-time decomposed form --- an Arnowitt-Deser-Misner (ADM) representation --- of the CRG action. The action is found to contain time derivatives of the gravitational fields up to fourth order. Some ways to reduce the order of these time derivatives are considered. The resulting action is analyzed using the Hamiltonian formalism, which was originally adapted for constrained theories by Dirac. It is shown that the theory has a consistent set of constraints. It is, however, found that the theory exhibits four propagating physical degrees of freedom. This is one degree of freedom more than in Hořava-Lifshitz (HL) gravity and two more propagating modes than in general relativity. One extra physical degree of freedom has its origin in the higher order nature of the CRG action. The other extra propagating mode is a consequence of a projectability condition similarly as in HL gravity. Some additional gauge symmetry may need to be introduced in order to get rid of the extra gravitational degrees of freedom.

We study a version of the recently proposed modified $F(R)$ Hořava-Lifshitz gravity that abandons the projectability condition of the lapse variable. We discovered that the projectable version of this theory has a consistent Hamiltonian structure, and that the theory has interesting cosmological solutions which can describe the eras of accelerated expansion of the universe in a unified manner. The usual Hořava-Lifshitz gravity is a special case of our theory. Hamiltonian analysis of the non-projectable theory, however, shows that this theory has serious problems. These problems are compared with those found in the original Hořava-Lifshitz gravity. A general observation on the structure of the Poisson bracket of Hamiltonian constraints in all theories of the Hořava-Lifshitz type is made: in the resulting tertiary constraint the highest order spatial derivative of the lapse $N$ is always of uneven order. Since the vanishing of the lapse (N=0) is required by the preservation of the Hamiltonian constraints under time evolution, we conclude that the non-projectable version of the theory is physically inconsistent.

Recently N. Berkovits, motivated by the supertwistor description of ${\cal N}=4 D=4$ super Yang-Mills, considered the generalization of the ${\cal N}=1 D=4$ $θ$-twistor construction to D=10 and applied it for a compact covariant description of ${\cal N}=1 D=10$ super Yang-Mills. This supports the relevance of the $θ$-twistor as a supersymmetric twistor alternative to the well-known supertwistor. The minimal breaking of superconformal symmetry is an inherent property of the $θ$-twistor received from its fermionic components, described by a Grassmannian vector instead of a Grassmannian scalar in the supertwistor. The $θ$-twistor description of the ${\cal N}=1 D=4$ massless chiral supermultiplets $(S, S + 1/2)$ with spins $S=0,1/2,1,3/2,2,...$ is considered here. The description permits to restore the auxiliary $F$ fields of the chiral supermultiplets absent in the supertwistor approach. The proposed formalism is naturally generalized to ${\cal N}=4 D=4 $ and can be used for an off-shell description of the corresponding super Yang-Mills theory.

We propose the most general modified first-order Hořava-Lifshitz (HL) gravity, whose action does not contain time derivatives higher than the second order. The Hamiltonian structure of this theory is studied in all the details in the case of the spatially-flat FRW space-time, demonstrating many of the features of the general theory. It is shown that, with some plausible assumptions, including the projectability of the lapse function, this model is consistent. As a large class of such theories, the modified HL $F(R)$ gravity is introduced. The study of its ultraviolet properties shows that its $z=3$ version seems to be renormalizable in the same way as the original HL proposal. The Hamiltonian analysis of the modified HL $F(R)$ gravity shows that it is in general a consistent theory. The $F(R)$ gravity action is also studied in the fixed-gauge form, where the appearance of a scalar field is particularly illustrative. Then the spatially-flat FRW cosmology for this $F(R)$ gravity is investigated. It is shown that a special choice of parameters for this theory leads to the same equations of motion as in the case of traditional $F(R)$ gravity. Nevertheless, the cosmological structure of the modified HL $F(R)$ gravity turns out to be much richer than for its traditional counterpart. The emergence of multiple de Sitter solutions indicates to the possibility of unification of early-time inflation with late-time acceleration within the same model. Power-law $F(R)$ theories are investigated in detail. It is analytically shown that they have a quite rich cosmological structure: early/late-time cosmic acceleration of quintessence, as well as of phantom types. Also it is demonstrated that all the four known types of finite-time future singularities may occur in the power-law HL $F(R)$ gravity. Finally, a covariant proposal for (renormalizable) $F(R)$ gravity within the HL spirit is presented.

Special attention is paid to the formulation of modified $F(R)$ Hořava-Lifshitz gravity (FRHL), whose Hamiltonian structure is studied. It is demonstrated that the spatially-flat FRW equations of FRHL are consistent with the constraint equations. The analysis of de Sitter solutions for several versions of FRHL indicates that the unification of the early-time inflation with the late-time acceleration is possible. It is shown that a special choice of parameters for FRHL leads to the same spatially-flat FRW equations as in the case of traditional $F(R)$-gravity. Finally, an essentially most general modified Hořava-Lifshitz gravity is proposed, motivated by its fully diffeomorphism-invariant counterpart, with the restriction that the action does not contain derivatives higher than the second order with respect to the time coordinate.

It is shown that, in order to assure the restrictions imposed by the associativity property of the star product, the torsion of the space-time has to be covariant constant. An illustrative example is given and it is concluded that in this case the conditions necessary to define a covariant star product on a symplectic manifold completely determine its connection.
